Adding Edge Servers to a live FMS Server

Hi All,
Does anyone know if this is possible?  I have an FMS server in our production enviroment that contains multiple vHosts, at the moment I have one edge server setup for each host based on the comment at the bottom of this entry:
http://livedocs.adobe.com/fms/2/docs/wwhelp/wwhimpl/common/html/wwhelp.htm?context=LiveDoc s_Parts&file=00000205.html
What I would like to be able to do is to add a new vHost and initiate an edge server process for this without having to restart the FMS service?
Thanks

If the goal is to add a new listening port and vhost combination then you must restart FMS to make this possible.  Sorry.

  • Adding recovered mail back into live mail server

Ive had the mother of all failures, my main server HD died over the weekend and Ive been able to restore the system back to 3rd Aprils backup.
Looking at the drive now, it looks like I can save the mail DB in /var/mail but how do I combine this into the now running system? - because new emails have appeared since bringing the backup server online and I dont want to over write those.

pterobyte - thanks for the tip here!
I need to restore mail that I recovered from var/spool/imap as well. I tried the above solution and received the following errors:
reconstruct: fopen() failed for '10.' [error=13] -- skipping.

I also have the data from var/imap. I would like to add these recovered emails to existing accounts so replacing the files is not an option for me. Do you have any thoughts as to why it did not work? Mathew, did you have success? Thanks for your help.

FMS server buffer delay 5-6 sec live stream ?

To reduce the delay you can try disabling aggregate messages.
You need to set Streams/EnableAggMsgs in Server.xml and Client/AggregateMessages in Application.xml to false.

    try this:
    Start FMS
put the FLV into the "applications\test\streams\_definst_"
    folder
Create a SWF that will stream the FLV
The easiest way to create this SWF is to use the FLV Playback
    Component in Flash 8.
    Or, Sample Code:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash/articles/flv_download_04.html
    and some templates:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash/video_templates.html
the SWF should connect to rtmp://localhost/test/ and stream
your FLV, just like with Progressive Download FLV
the SWF can run from your desktop or on a local web server
such as Apache - it should NOT be in the FMS application folder.
Open the SWF, and your video should stream.
    hope this helps.

  • Lync server 2010 and 2013 coexistence replacing edge servers

    Hi all,
    here is Our current deployment:
    Lync server 2010:
    1 edge
    1 FE
    3 branch sites
    1 Monitoring server
    Lync server 2013:
    3 FrontEnd
    2 Edge
    2 Mediation
    3 Backend
Simple urls are still point to Legacy (2010) servers.
External settings of Edge 2013 servers have been define With different name (Access,WEB and AV) and DNS (internally and externally) is pointing to New 2013 servers (via KEMP and TMG).
ATM 2013 topology is using edge2010 server.
Seems like we have two options for replacing Edge servers, one is Rip and replace and the other one is side by side transition.
We would like to do rip and replace so we can keep old simple urls (so that we dont have to send notice to external partners about Our New Access edge info) and using 2013 edge servers for federation and keep users on 2010 servers, then move them in
    a controlled way.
What is the best way to do this?
    Thanks!
Please mark as helpful if you find my contribution useful or as an answer if it does answer your question. That will encourage me - and others - to take time out to help you. Thank you! Off2work

    Hi,
From your description above, the purpose is no need to update the New Access Edge info to the external partners. So for those external partners who set federation type of “Allowed Partner Server”, you need to keep the SIP domain name and the Edge Server
    FQDN the same as before.
So base on my knowledge, you need to plan a down time, and firstly cancel the federation route for the Lync Edge 2010 Server. Delete the Lync Edge 2010 Server and publish the topology. Then deploy the Lync 2013 Edge Server with the same FQDN with Lync Edge
2010 Server. Then enable federation for it and point to the Lync Server 2013 FE Pool.

  • Live streaming to FMS server from analog cable?

Need to stream an analog cable signal (may consist of 60-70
channels in VL and VHF)to FMS server. im doing a small scale
project. so i want some hardwares supporting these. please suggest
    me some reasonable ones..
is it possible to do the same with a tv tuner card.?

For HLS streaming, only aac/heaac are supported audio codec. Though FMS do not disallow packaging mp3, but its mostly depnds upon ios devices to play back them.. We don't recommend mp3 as codec for ios playback.
    Thanks

  • Edge Origin Advantages on live apps.

Hi .. Can someone advice how would edge origin be advantageous in terms of network latency for a live (publisher / consumer) application ( I guess live apps wont need caching of data in edges)
    user1 ---------------   ASIA````````````````````|
                                                      USA
                                                           |
    user2 --------------   EMEA ```````````````````
                                (Edges)               (Origin)
How the above is advantageous from the below one.
    user1 --------------------------````````````````````|
                                                      USA
                                                           |
    user2 --------------------------````````````````````
In both the cases, requests are reaching the same server  (USA) where the application is running.
( I know if I have multiple edges behind a load balancer it ll help in failover. But how about network latency?)
    2) Can I make it so that if the ASIA server dies, User1 would automatically be connected to EMEA server? ( I wasnt able to understand the client autodiscovery)
    3) I wanted to have a fail over of origin server.   I went through   http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flashmediaserver/articles/origin_redundancy.html   But this is too complicated. Is there any other simple way for Origin's Failover ?
    4) Is it possible to have two origin server in active-active mode ?
    5) If for live applications, Edges are not going to process / store much things, can I use a low end machine for edges and a very high end machine for Origin?
Please help .. Thanks in advance...

Hi .. Sorry for my delayed response ...
    1. Does that mean that edge/origin shows no improvement in performance. I understand that i can provide failovers of edges.
    or
if they have the same performance, what is the use of,
    publisher       -     edge1
                                            origin ( fms server)
    consumer      -     edge2
    over
    publisher
                                       fms server
    consumer
    3) Sorry I couldnt understand fully.
    How do i setup
                                  ,------ Origin 2 ( will take over if Origin1 fails )
Origin1----`                (How to set up if Origin1 dies Origin2 will takeover)
         edge1           edge2
    4) By active-active I meant, if its possible to have two Origin servers up  and running and both of them serving. If any one of the Origins goes down the other Origin takes over. Is it possible ?
    One more question,
Are there any tools to measure the performances of Live AV Chat or any load test tools for FMS applications like whiteboard ?
    Thanks

  • Merge Lync 2013 Edge servers in same pool

    Hi guys.
    - We had Lync 2013 FE STD version.
    - We have added one more Lync 2013 FE STD and done front end pool pairing.
    - We had single Edge Pool, soo only 1 EDGE server being in 1 POOL.
We wish to add another Edge server and put previous and this new Edge server in one pool.
This is a printscreen of our current Edge Deployment.
Because we have a federation enabled with external partners who had put in their lync configuration
to trust to our public external address of current edge server: LyncEDGESIP.domain.com, we would like to avoid sending them new address and we have decided to keep that public address and make it EDGE POOL NAME where both edge servers would be inside.
Now we are little bit confused/amused what to do next.
If use LyncEDGESIP.domain.com to be FQDN of EDGE POOL with 2 two edge servers, what would we need to do with our current edge server.
    What to put for:
Access Edge Service public address on both edge servers
Web Conferencing Edge Service public address on both edge servers
A/V Edge Service public address on both edge servers.
    bostjanc

    Go with cutover migration if you can take downtime. Here is the high level summary for your reference;
Remove existing edge server from topology and publish the changes.
Create a new edge server pool in topology builder.
Make sure that access edge , web conference edge and AV edge name remains the same.
Publish the topology and run the setup on both edge servers. You need to configure external and internal IP addresses based on Lync topology.
Replicate the configuration change and run the deployment wizard.
Import the certificate and start the services.
Create additional DNS A records for load balancing externally.
    Thanks

  • How to connect directly to FMS server

    Hi,
Is it possible to connect directly to FMS server with NetConnection
and connect to video with NetStream ?
I see that in debug mode can see the RTMPS connection of FMS server,
So I try successfully connect to this RTMPS connection,
But I don't know what is the STREAM NAME of the video (WebcamPublisher).
    Thanks,
    Eyal.

    Hi Nigel,
I developed the ChatVideo (http://www.chatvideo.co.il) that use the Adobe LiveCycle Collaboration Service.
Now I want to develop a version to iPhone.
To do this I used WOWZA servers - I set up the WOWZA server to edge and he take the stream from the Adobe FMS origin server,
And on the fly the WOWZA server produce M3U8 link that can view in the iPhone.
Are you know a other way to do this?
    Thanks,
    Eyal.

  • Can lync client use internet proxy settings to proxy edge servers, if direct access is not reachable?

Hi everybody I am trying to Login with my lync Client out of my organization. So I am using lync as a remote user. I am in another organization, and I am using their coporate lan wired and wireless, but I cannot Login to lync in my organization.
I see that I cannot Access my edge Server on port 443 to authenticate directly, I know that Client in this organization use Internet Proxy to browse the Internet. they have a .pac in their ie Settings.
my question is; can lync Client use Internet Proxy Settings to reach the Destination? I mean the Access edge on port 443?
or it can use only Client direct Access to reach the edge Servers?
I Think that the answer is that I use tcp protocol and not http, and maybe that is the reason why I cannot use the Internet Explorer Proxy Settings to reach the Access edge Servers, different maybe is the case I Need to reach the reverse Proxy for live Meetings.
    Hope my question is clear.
    Thanks

Proxy settings are used to tell Internet Explorer the network address of an intermediary server (known as a proxy server) that is used between the browser and the Internet on some networks.
Lync client doesn’t use Internet Proxy Setting. You need to access the Edge service directly.

  • Topology not replicating to Lync 2013 Edge servers

    Hello all,
I have installed Lync 2013 with a FE Pool (three servers HW Load Balanced), Director Pool (two servers HW Load Balanced), and an Edge Environment (2 servers, in DMZ, member of a work group, also HW load balanced).  All servers are Windows 2012
    server (not R2).
I am able to login remotely and have green checks across the board at
https://testconnectivity.microsoft.com.  So things are looking good.
My issue is that I am unable to replicate to my Edge servers from the FE.  I am not seeing errors in the event viewer, just a big red 'x' on the topology tab in the control panel for the Edge servers.  Also, when trying to force replication
the Edge servers continue to show 'False'.
Here are things I have done/checked to resolve this - so I need your assistance please:
    1. From the FE, I can visit
https://EdgeFQDN:4443/replicationwebservice  - there are no errors, no certificate errors so things look good
    2. I have verified that I the Edge servers have the domain suffix added to them. The HW Load balancer is configured as the EdgeInternal.domain.com entry and the physical edge servers are named Edge01 and Edge02 (obviously with the domain suffix added).
So this seems correct based on recommendations.
    3. I have added the following reg keys to all Lync Servers in the org
    HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL ->DWORD ClientAuthTrustMode Value=2 and SendTrustedIssuerList DWORD Value: 0
I am trying to avoid having to resort to this as possible resolution -
http://ucken.blogspot.com/2012/04/resetting-lync-cms-replication.html, but if this is my next step, please let me know.
May be useless info, but here it is anyway....
One thing I will mention - during my setup, I setup Kerberos Authentication for Lync 2013.  I followed
    http://howdouc.blogspot.com/2011/07/kerberos-web-authentication-for-lync.html and
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg398976.aspx to configure this.
I am unable to access the RtcReplicaRoot\xds-replica directory on the primary FE server or any other lync server for that matter.  I assume this is because it is locked down to the Kerberos account that
was created.  However, I am unable to run the command "Set-CsKerberosAccountPassword -FromComputer FEFQDN.Domain.com -ToComputer EdgeFQDN.Domain.com".  Obviously
this fails because the Edge servers are in a workgroup and cant see the Kerberos account that was created.  Would this break the replication?   Just thinking outloud...
Thanks in advance for any input.

Michael, Thank you for your response.  We are currently in coexistence with a Lync 2010 environment.
Our environment consists of a European domain and a North American domain, both in the same forest.  The European environment has had 2010 up and running for a couple of years and we (North America) just installed 2013 Lync.  The EU domain has
many domain names they support (.uk, .net, .ie, etc.)  NAm only manages .com domain name space.
I tell you this because I have configured the NAm environment to support only .com (save $ for SSL UCC licensing) and to provide separate paths to our services.  There is a EU site and a NAm site in the Lync topology.  The issues are with the FE
    servers in NAm.
Based on your response above, the NAm servers are fine with your suggestions in #2 and #3.  The CMS database is still on 2010 in the EU site.
Given that the NAm domain is configured to support only .com domain namespace, I am worried that moving the CMS to NAm FE's as it would break EU's ability for federation.
Any guidance or expertise is greatly appreciated.
My ultimate goal is to have NAm employees authenticate to their Edge servers in the site and EU to authenticate to their respective Edge Servers.  Also, I have read that we can only have one Edge pool responsible for Federation in the Lync org.
I assume that we will have to keep federation going through EU as they have the SSL certs for all domains configured in their environment.  Just a little confused before I make any changes.

  • 2 edge servers and 2 front end servers?

    Good morning/afternoon/evening Technet,
We're about to go to production with Lync 2013 standard with the following.
    1. 2 front end servers w/ standard edition
    2. 2 edge servers
We want to set it up so that 1 front end and 1 edge server will be at a location of ours a couple miles away. We want to setup the other front end and edge server at our main office. For disaster recovery purposes I know that I can keep the two front ends
pooled but as far as the Edge servers go, would it be best to have 1 active and the other edge turned passive? Is there a way that I can put the two edge servers in the same pool?
Thanks for all the help guys and gals!
    -Liqsh0t

    Hi,
Each Site can use a separate Edge Server to support external login process.
However, it is possible to use single Edge server for both pools. The user from the other site has to connect to the only edge and then route though the WAN link to go to its own pool. Access Edge is responsible for proxying SIP traffic for remote clients
to the next hop, which can be a Director or a Lync pool.

  • Unable to stream SMIL files unless the html page, swf file and the smil ffile are on the FMS server.

When I place the .swf, smil and http files on the FMS server the SMIL stream test sample works fine
But When I move the files to my web server I get Connection error.
This is the same issue discussed in http://forums.adobe.com/thread/554107
I added a ‘base’ variable but it did not work for me.
The SMIL file has the correct path to the sample files and FMS server
         <meta base="rtmp://200.200.200.23/vod/" />
I am able to stream files from my html file on my webserver not the FMS server by pointing to the FMS server at rtmp://200.200.200.23/vod/mp4:sample1_1500kbps.f4v
Is this a domain security setting? If so, where do I change it?
If not How do I get FMS to stream SMIL files without installing a webserver with FMS?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
I think there is bug with that videoPlayer.swf which is used by index.html of webroot folder of FMS to play media files, its not able to parse smil file correctly. I used some other player and used the smil file and kept it on http server other than fms server so it was able to dynamically stream videos. So I would suggest you to create your own player which uses smil file. You can take help from the below link to create player:

  • Video Freezes when overriding flv files on FMS server

I have an flash application that captures a web cam video stream and stores it on the FMS server.
I notice when I create a brand new video, and store it on my FMS server, it works fine.
When I make another video and my application overrides the file with the new video, this is where I get problems.
When I download the flv file from the FMS server, and I play it locally it plays fine, but the timeline is weird.
The web player freezes the video during that first 15 seconds.
A 30 second video, will have a time line of like 45 seconds, the local flv player is smart enough to skip over the paused part of the video.
You will see it skip over the timeline to the good video (from 0sec to 15 secs).  The web player freezes the video during that first 15 seconds.
Any clues that I described that makes you know what is going on?

  • FMS Server Balancing

Hello again. I run a FMS 3.5 Server and I want to add additional FMS Servers and load balance the traffic. The plan is to use a script for the developer version of FMS that forwards two incoming FME streams to the different servers, so each FMS Server has all streams. Is there a script for this? In addition there is a need for a script that somehow redirects the users to the server with the lowest users/bandwidth in use. Can somebody provide me  with such a script or help me? Would appreciate it. Any other solutions would be welcome to get the same results.

I don't know of any publicly available code that does what you're looking for. I typically write an application that continually polls the admin services of each FMS in the cluster to handle load balancing.
That said, I think what you're planning would violate the terms of the EULA for the FMS dev edition. I recall reading that you can only use the dev edition for deployment when not used in conjunction with additional FMS servers.... you might want to check into that.
