Adding effect to angles after multiclip edit

i have just completed a 3 camera multiclip edit and now need to copy the colour correction setteings for one angle throughout the project. I have colour correct one clip and then copied it, i have gone to edit>find, typed in the name of the angle and asked to find all. When all the clips are highlighted i proceed with option V to paste the effect to all highlighted angles, yet this does not seem to work.
am i doing things in the correct order or am i missing something
Thanks
Matthew

if you can't make pasting work then drag the CC effect you want from the filters tab and save it in a bin. Then select the angles you want to apply and while they are still selected drag the saved fx from the bin onto the clips in the timeline.

  • CC before or after multiclip editing?

I've only done a few films with multiclip. Awhile back. The last time I remember editing with no CC, then CC'ing every edited clip ... as if I was making a regular film.
I have to edit a 90 minute music show. I notice all three cameras are holding more or less the same color setup throughout the show.
Should I do a general color correction on each of the cameras' master clips BEFORE beginning a multi-clip edit? That way I'll have to do a LOT LOT less correcting on the back end. I can always tweak individual clips after the fact (I'm thinking).
Any advice would be most appreciated.

What kind of lighting was used on set? Did you have complete control of lights used, or were additional lights from the environment being used as well?
I've seen similar behavior, but can't remember exactly what kind of lights...once I believe it was with a certain kind of florescent, the other in a gymnasium...sodium vapor, maybe?
If that's the issue, about the only fix is to keyframe a CC3way filter and match it up with the cycle you're seeing.
Not an easy or quick solution, but doable.
I don't know any reason why the multiclip feature would cause this behavior...I believe it's in your footage.
    Post back with lighting details.

  • Adding Effects in Multiclip

I'm wondering if there is any way within the multiclip editing mode, to apply an attribute (especially filters) to an entire angle, so that it effects every appearance of the angle in the sequence.
One method I imagine I could use would be to bring the source clip to a new sequence, adding the effect there, exporting it again, and reconnecting the angle in the multiclip to that new file, but I would very much rather have more flexibility than that.
    MANY thanks.

The setting you need to change so that Edit comes up instead of Play is in iMovie > Preferences > Browser.
Change the setting for Double click from Play to Edit.
Another way to open the inspector is to place your cursor near the beginning of any clip in your project.
You will see a little blue box with a wheel and a down arrow in the bottom left corner. Left click on that then select Clip Adjustments.
    Best,
    Z.

You cannot delete an Apple ID, you can just stop using it. If your photos are still on your phone now, then I suggest you do back them up. Transfer them from the phone into your iPhoto Library. iCloud only backs up your Camera Roll automatically. But the Camera Roll only contains new photos that were taken but not yet transferred using iTunes.

  • Some techni of Multiclip edit

I am a multiclip edit beginner and I'd like to know somethings below.
    1. I have a 3 camera live event project, but I realized that the white balance and the brightness of those 3 cam do not match. Is it possible for me to change specified camera settings after I create into multiclip already? Or I need to fix them before combined? I've tried to fix it after make them into multiclip,(for example, just put the color corrections effect to the viewer window), it showed the effect changes on the active camera at first, but when I switched to other angles and back to it, the filter disappeared. Is it some other methods can do it properly?
    2. Is it possible to add dissolve transition automatically when I cut to other angle? (You know, just like we are using visual mixer in live event)
    Thank you for your answers.

    1. CC in the viewer will not help you.
You can CC before making the multiclip, but I think i's beter to just edit and then Color Correct the first shot from let's say angle 2 and then copy those settings to all other shots from that camera. Because you'll probably need to adjust every shot a little anyway...
    2. I'm not sure if this works for Multiclips, but normally you can jsut edit.
Then make sure your Default Dissolve has the settings you want. Then select a the clips in the timeline. Set an inpoint at the first selected clip. Drag those clips to the right part of the canvaswindow and release the mouse button when your are over Overwrite with Transition...
Again: Not sure if this works for multicam edits...

  • Premier cc 2014, whole program lags when adding effects

I have a problem that began after updating to cc 2014.   I work on projects that tend to have long complex multi  cam sequences (3 to 4 cameras) embedded into another sequence.
Premier pro handles it great no problems, until I try to color correct...then the whole entire program lags, not just playback.  I will add an effect, and then have to wait 30 seconds to a minute to even access the effect controls.   When  I start trying to make adjustments ( using the three way color corrector or RGB curves) I have to wait 3-5 seconds for the adjustment to catch up with what I am doing.    Then when I click on another clip to apply an effect, I must wait 30 seconds to a minute again for premiere to allow me to make changes to this clip.
This has NEVER been an issue for me on previous versions of premiere pro.  I used to be able to add color corrections without the whole program slowing down.
I have found some work arounds.   Such as I make a brand new sequence, and then copy and paste all the clips from the onc sequence to the new one.  I can then make all my color corrections just fine.  After I am done color correcting I drag them back into the original sequence, and close that sequence and things go back to normal.
I thought perhaps this could be a hard drive issue, as I was editing from an external docking drive through USB 3.   So I opened up my computer and swapped out hard drives so that my media drive was connected directly thru SATA.   But nope this did not help, same issue.
The color corrections I make are fairly simple, I am just trying to match all the cameras to be the same,  so I may adjust saturation levels, or change the RGB levels so all the colors look the same.
    here are my computer specs
    Windows 8
    Intel I7 processor
    3.4 GHz
    8GB Ram

    Hi Matthew D,
If it were me, I'd save color correction work to be done after the editing. Can you try flattening the final multicamera sequence, and then adding your color correction effects?
If that's too much to ask, perhaps adding more RAM might help you with the workflow you'd rather deal with. As versions of Premiere Pro progress, more and more is required from you computer's resources—pretty much a fact of life. That might explain why it worked just fine earlier.
Another explanation may have to do with the project files you are working with. Are they brand new 8.2 project files, or project files you started in 8.0 or 8.1? Updated project files might contain corruption, interfering with performance.
    Thanks,

  • Multiclip editing does not update Canvas window with active angle

    Hi,
I am trying to do some multiclip editing but for some reason when cutting between angles the canvas viewer does not update with the video. Once I stop playback the cuts are all created properly and the video changes when playing back again. However, when editing the video does not change to the active angle. The audio changes but the video does not.
I have the multiclip playback setting in RT enabled and the canvas and viewer windows synced and matching each other when playing back, and video + audio is set in the sync menu.
I'm now stuck! and would greatly appreciate some help.
    Thanks
    Phil

    Welcome to the family.
I don't mean to brush you off because I understand your frustration. But what we know about mutliclip is that it really does work, if you follow the rules completely. We also know that most of the "multiclip doesn't work" posts are resolved by encouraging the user to be objective and to simply recheck the setup steps in the manual, one at a time. (Editorially speaking: There are too many of them, there are too many stupid gotchas in the multiclip setup. True. Hope springs eternal that FCP6 may fix many of these things. It should be a one-click solution.)
You can search for multiclip here and, after filtering out the nonsense from elitists like me, you should be able to detect something in your configuration that might be keeping you from getting the performance you are expecting.

  • Multiclip Edits Problematic with EDL's (Edit Decision Lists)

Gentlemen, I exported a sample EDL for my on line bay from a multiclip edit from three angles (P2 Card Files) I created and they are seeing the list as one Reel Name instead of the three reel names if I cut it traditionally.
I understand a multiclip is creating a new single clip in my bin of the three source clips, and that it is creating its own new name. But is there not a way for the EDL to be created and exported so that the edit list reflects the original file source names, not the single multiclip name?
I also tried collapsing the multiclip but got the same EDL result.
    Thanks for your input.

Might try performing a match frame/replace routine in your sequence after collapsing the multiclips? i.e, replace the clips in the sequence with the original master clips... This would go pretty fast I'd think. Just place the playhead anywhere within a clip, type f, and then simply use the replace edit on each one.
Try it with a duplicate of the original sequence...

  • Mac Pro 8-core too slow for Multiclip editing

I have a Mac Pro 8core (pre-Nehalem), with 4 gb of memory. I'm doing some multiclip editing, and even with RT set to the lowest preview quality, my system stills blocks from time to time. I don't want to invest in a RAID-system, because I don't do multiclip editing that often. Is there an other - not expensive - way to speed up my Mac? Would adding memory - say to 6 gb - help?
I also have the impression that since I upgraded to Leopard Snow, the computer is much less stable. FCP shut down twice unexpectedly yesterday.

You don't say what format of HD you're editing but the fluidity of playing multiclip sequences is really dependent on the system's ability to provide all the streams of video in a timely manner. This means hard drive throughput is essential. A good quality sata drive in a MacPro can read somewhere around 115 MB/sec when empty. It will spool material less effectively as it fills.
Very good quality esata RAID systems can provide 5x that - which is why people utilize them. (fwiw-I've run 16 streams of 720p24 DVCProHD off of a Caldigit HDOne in a multiclip sequence without a hiccup. )
What can you do if you don't want to pay the price for the right gear for the job?
    1. populate all your internal bays with fast hard drives
    2. empty the drives
    3. spread your captured files across all three (non system drives)
This will distribute the load as much as possible without going to a RAID setup.
Once you have all the drives empty, you could try setting up a RAID 0 set using Disk Utility and see if that works for you. One caveat - if you decide to go the internal software RAID 0 route, recognize there is no failsafe should you encounter a serious system crash. Everything on all drives that are part of the RAID set can be compromised.
    Good luck,

  • How should i export already h.264 compressed video/audio files after i edit them?

I am recording gameplay footage off computer with a program that compresses the video and audio. After I edit the footage how should i export it? I don't want to lose quality by double compressing it.

    Michael Holmes1 wrote:

    No.
You need to explore Compound Clips. This workflow may or may not be of help.
Select an Event with clips in it and press Option+G to make a (blank) compound clip.
Select the Event Browser, create a new Event and call it 'Effects'.
Drag the Compound Clip into this Event.
Right-click the clip and select 'Open in Timeline'.
Select the timeline and press Option+W. This will add a Gap Clip to the timeline.
Select the gap clip and press Ctrl+D then type in the duration you want the clip to be.
Now open a project and select and copy one of the clips with effects etc.
Open the Compound Clip in the Timeline again, select the gap clip and press Option+Cmd+V to paste the effects into your Compound Clip.
This clip is now saved in your Browser and will remain there for you to copy and then paste the effects into any clip in any project.
It's a bit clunky, but it works - and once you learn about Compound Clips, you can work wonders with them. As an example, if you want to add more effects without overwriting the effects in the Compound Clip, simply make the Compound Clip into a Compound Clip (again) and add the effects. They will be added to the original effects.

  • Multiclip editing - what to do if one camera is not continuous synch?

    Help!
I've got to edit a one hour show overnight. Two cameras. One camera is shooting continuous, only one stop to change tape. The second camera was stopping and starting all the way through. I synched up the clips of the start\stop camera all the way through on track two. Synched in camera one where it starts up after a tape change. So I have a timeline with the whole show, made up of two tracks of clips. Is there any way I can use the 'multiclip' editing function AFTER I've synched up the two cameras?
The only thing I can think of quickly is to export the two cameras one at a time from the edited timeline, in the same format, and create new contiguous single clips for each all the way through. Then import these new one hour clips to do multi clip editing (all the blanks filled with black slugs). I'd like to avoid all that render time. And a second generation Quicktime.
Any suggestions would be most appreciated,
    Ben

I agree that the ol' split screen effect is a good way to edit multiple cameras, if you only have two cameras, it's still a bit of a waste of time. If there are only two shots from which to choose, it's a binary selection. In the olden days, I'd simply turn off the camera 2 track and razor blade out and delete all useless footage from camera 1. The holes MUST be filled by camera 2. Where there are overlapping shots, it should be easy to choose the better.
Your three camera shoot could benefit from two things:
    1. A tailboard meeting where you explain why you expect each tape to roll continuously
    2. Communication via walkietalkie or wireless intercom (rent them)
    3. A big digital clock with seconds hung on a wall where all cameras can see it. If any camera gets stopped (it happens) or batteries die, they can shoot the clock for ten seconds to provide accurate sync..

  • How can I use ALL audio tracks in multiclip editing?

I want to be able to use all audio tracks after the multiclip cut.
It's only a two camera shoot, but I want to be able to use the ambient room sound from the second camera ... and control its level (in relation to the master audio track on the first camera) AFTER the cuts are made.
Is this possible in multiclip editing? And how does one go about it?
Apologies. I've spent an hour or so in the manual, and it isn't clear ... or I'm just not finding the right reference.
    All ears,
    Ben

Sorry if I'm steering you down a path you don't want to go or even if there's a better way but I wouldn't be ding complex audio mixing anywhere near the multiclip interface. Export your reference movie or nest the multiclip project into another sequence, bring in your additional tracks, get to work. Just my preferences, I put a bunch of rough keyframes in the audio tracks and enter some markers (and make a lot of paper notes). Then I go back using the large mixer window to do the fine tweaking.
Stick around for a couple of days, some other multiclip users with more experience than I will offer some more useful suggestions.

  • Help with multiclip editing in FCP

Can someone please help me with multiclip editing. I have followed all the steps in the tutorials I have watched but I am unalble to switch between the two angles in the time line. Also the red line in the time line is telling me to render everything first . Is that normal or is it because I am using the 5.0 version of FCP?

To switch between angles, the timeline should not be rendered. Once you render it, it may play more smoothly, but you can't switch.
Also, sometimes you may have trouble switching many HD files, so it might work better to use Media Manager to make lower resolution proxies for your editing, then bringing the full-res files back for your final output. If the computer can't handle the load, it may refuse to do multiclip editing.
Finally, you may need to switch Playhead Sync back to "Open" from time to time. For some reason, the Viewer sometimes switches to "Sync Off".
By the way, your question actually belongs on the Final Cut Studio forum:

  • Multiclip editing not cutting, Markers dissappear when stop playing

Im doing a multiclip edit for the first time and im having issues!
I have the 3 angles i need set up and sync in a multiclip and can get it playing fine ie viewer has the 3 angles playing at once and select angle is showing in the canvas. I play the clip and begin to add cut points (by clicking on angle when i want to change to it) a marker appears in the timeline as it should but when i stop playing all the markers disappear and im back to square-one again!!!!
As far as i can tell the setting are correct, i have the viewer set to open and multiclip playback enabled and all looks great it just wont insert the cut points!!!
    PLEASE HELP!

I'm no longer using 5.x, but I remember some odd bug with multiclips doing only a Switch to (instead of a Cut to) which results in the behavior you're mentioning: the markers disappearing as soon as you stop playback. I believe the issue was either related to being in a customized, but unsaved custom keyboard layout.
I guess what I'm saying is: does going to Tools > Keyboard Layout and selecting either layout (Default or Multiclip) affect the issue?
