Adding Epson NX400 printer

How do I connect this printer to my MacBook? There is no USB cord with the printer. I have Linksys wireless. Can I print remotely or do I have to plug the cable directly in to my Mac? Thanks!

It sounds as if the users guide has not been brought up to date. The print set up procedure for Time Capsule (and the Extreme is virtually the same product, print feature wise) for OS X v 10.5 and above is as follows:
Make sure your printer is connected to the Time Capsule (Airport Extreme)
Open System Preferences. Select and Open Print & Fax
Click the "+" button and select your printer from the list
Click the Add button
Once you have done this, it will probably look as if you have the same printer installed twice. A more careful look will show that you have the Epson at your iMac as one printer and the other should be your Epson at your Airport Extreme. At least, that is way it is configured on my Mac laptop.
Hope this helps.

  • Problem adding EPSON USB printer

I contacted Epson's support about this, then did what they told me to in the reply. As you can probably tell since I'm posting this, it didn't work. Here is the email I sent:
"No matter what I do I cannot get EPSON USB to show up under More Printers in Apple's Printer Utility. I can add the regular driver for the printer to my printers list just fine, but when I try to go into More Printers > EPSON USB to add the Border less and Minimized margins (like I had done previously on a PPC based Mac) the option for EPSON USB from the pull down menu doesn't show up. It only shows EPSON FIREWIRE and EPSON TCP/IP. I have tired reinstalling the driver, resetting the printer system and restarting. I have even reinstalled the whole operating system, but even on a fresh install (and the newest driver installed) EPSON USB still didn't show up in the pull down menu. Please help, I need to get border less printing working again.
I am using a Core2Duo MacBook Pro, Epson Stylus Photo 820, The newest version of the driver (downloaded January 1, 2007), and Mac OS X 10.4.8."
Here is what they returned and what I did:
"Thank you for contacting the Epson Connection.
If you are unable to add your printer even after a complete cleanout and
reinstall, please try the following steps to correct this issue.
    1. Open Printer Setup Utility (HD > APPLICATIONS > UTILITIES).
    2. At the top of the screen, click the words "Printer Setup Utility" and
choose "Reset Printing System" from the pull-down menu. Confirm resetting.
    3. All existing printer listings will be deleted. Try adding your Epson
    printer again.
This reset makes the operating system clear all jobs and queues and
reconnect to printer drivers currently in the system.
If the printer's plug-in still cannot be selected to ADD, try the following
    as well:
    1. Begin on the desktop with no windows open or applications running.
    2. Go to FILE and down to FIND.
    3. In the SEARCH IN option, select EVERYWHERE.
    4. Under SEARCH FOR ITEMS WHOSE select NAME and CONTAINS from the drop
    down menu.
    5. In the search field type COM.APPLE.PRINT and click FIND.
    6. Drag ALL the entries that it finds to the TRASH and empty it. Repeat
steps 2-5 to search again and confirm that all COM.APPLE.PRINT files were
removed. (The second search should have no results. If it does, drag the
results to the trash, empty the trash, and repeat the search a final time.)
    7. Restart the computer and go back to the Printer Setup Utility to add
the printer. (Note: The COM.APPLE.PRINT preference files will be re-created
    upon restart.)
    8. After selecting ADD, you will receive a message stating "NEW PRINTER
DRIVERS DETECTED, WOULD YOU LIKE TO RELOAD THE BROWSER?" Click YES.
We would recommend reinstalling the driver and trying to add the printer.
If this fails - Please contact Apple for issues with the Printer Setup
    Utility
If you require further assistance with this particular issue, please ensure
all of our previous correspondence is contained in your reply, so we can
better track the history of this issue.
If you have a different issue, please submit another E-form via our website
(http://www.epson.com), and we will respond in a timely manner. Thank you
    again for contacting Epson.

I am using a Core2Duo MacBook Pro, Epson Stylus Photo 820, The newest
version of the driver (downloaded January 1, 2007), and Mac OS X 10.4.8.
Does anyone have any advice to solve this?
    --Thanks so much.

I'm having problems, too--- my Mac IBoook G4 10.4.8 does not "see"my new Epson flatbed color 58000 dream machine. Now iBook does see the Epson USB cord but not what's at the end of it....
Okay so maybe what has yet to help me, may help you:
I repaired permissions and wow-- there were permissions to repair
I downloaded the shareware, Printer Setup Repair which told me:
"18 missing files/directories found during the verification process. They may be responsible for certain printing problems. Printer Setup Repair cannot replace these items. Please refer to the log file for a list of the missing files/directories. You may need to reinstall OS X to resolve your printing issues. "
I know you did the reinstall (I so don't want to do that, hoping there is some way to just reinstall the printer utility) but perhaps the premissions repair
and maybe even the disk verification may help?
Printer Setup Repair told me things I didn't know-- perhaps it would assist you, too?
Good luck to us. A friend suggested that I may neeed another USB cable---
while my EPSON utility sees the printer, my Mac utility doe not and it may be
about some peculiarities of the USB cable.
    Best of luck,

  • How do I get my Epson NX400 printer to print black ink only?

I have documents that were created using colors for the text that I find difficult to read.  They also print in those colors.
I have followedEpson's instructions to set the NX400 to print black ink only.
The printer still prints in color.
Possibly, Epson's drivers don't work,  Or possiby, something in Lion OS is overriding the drivers.
Is there some setting in Lion OS that overrides the printer drivers?  Is it not possible to print black ink only?
    Help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

Hello, unfortunately, even if you do print them in Black & White only, colored text will show as some shade of gray, possibly even White.
As an Experiment, in the Print Dialog, choose PDF>Save as PDF, then see what it looks like using the Colorsync setting of Grayscale or B&W.

  • Epson NX400 & Airport Extreme not printing.

I have an Epson NX400 connected to my (brand new) Airport Extreme and am unable to get the printer to work unless I connect my Toshiba Satellite laptop to the Airport via Ethernet cable. I have run the Bonjour wizard and it sees the printer just fine. When i begin a print job, i can see that the location of the printer is listed as "Airport Extreme" and I have run the Airport Utility and it also saw the printer and lists it as present. I have "Sharing" enabled on my printer properties also.
I can only get it to print if im connected via Ethernet. I am at a loss now as to what to do. Everything else works just fine, Internet, two hard drives.

How totally strange. I was experiencing the same problem since approx. 12-12. AE would no longer recognize that a USB printer was plugged into it. Used the unplug and plug back in suggestion and everything is now working fine and the printer is recognized.
My question now is this: What would cause this to happen to a number of different people in differing parts of the country all at approx. the same time? Was some signal sent to our AEs that disabled the printing function? Just seems a bit weird that the first post I see when I go to check the discussion boards just happens to be about my very problem.

  • Epson SX445W printer won't work since upgrading to mountain lion

I upgraded both my iMac and my Macbook to mountain Lion and ever since doing so the less than 6 months old Epson SX445W printer I have, which is supposed to be compatible with Mountain Lion won't print wirelessly anymore.
I've hunted high and low for new drivers, tried removing and re-installing the printer, switched off gatekeeper, all to no avail, the only way I can get it to work is to print via USB.
The Printer network settings show it is correctly linked to the wireless network.
I've tried adding the printer via IP, when I put the printers IP in, the imac detects the printer and asks me if I wish to use the Epson Stylus SX440 (which I select as it is this driver I previously used before mountain lion) and it the tries to install, tries to download new software and then fails, with the error message
'Can't install the software fo the Epson Stylus SX440 because it is not currently available form the Software Update Server.'
I am at a loss as to how to progress, I'm starting to feel the upgrade from Lion to Mountain Lion was pointless, I must admit I was perfectly happy with Lion anyway as it always worked flawlessly for me.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Mende1
When I do that no printer appears unfortunately, only Adobe PDF 8.0
SInce posting this I did try removing and adding again, I have managed to get it to print by using the IP again to add and entering the ip address and then instead of using the default SX440 driver off my machine I selected from the list on the dropdown and chose Series 440, this successfully added the printer, and it just printed a test page, however I'm a little worried that this won't persist as soon as the printer is switched off and a new IP address is assigned by the DHCP server, and I shouldnt need to have to keep re-adding it, any other ideas are most welcome

  • Epson NX400 sharing problem

I have an Epson NX400 connected to a Mac Mini, and have it shared to my Macbook Air. It connects just fine, and will scan from the MBA. But when I do print, the document is at 50% normal size. It doesn't matter what kind of doc, it does it with all of them. I've checked all the setting i can find, both on the printer and in the individal apps, but everything is set correctly.
Everything prints correctly off of the Mini.
Both are running OS X 10.8.2

    Thanks BDAqua -
That's got my iMac speaking to the printer again. Unfortunately it's not giving me all I need to use the R800 as a photo printer, as I'm still not getting all the options I should get in the Driver dialogue. If I pick the driver for the non-shared R800 from the Printers drop-down, I get the following list in the 3rd drop-down (after the Printer and Presets menus):
    Copies & Pages
    Layout
    Scheduler
    Paper Handling
    ColorSync
    Cover Page
    *Print Settings*
    *Color Management*
    Extension Settings
    (App Name*)
    Summary
If, however, I pick the R800 from the Shared Printers list in the Printers drop-down, I get this truncated version
    Copies & Pages
    Layout
    Scheduler
    Paper Handling
    ColorSync
    Cover Page
    (App Name*)
    Summary
*Note: The app name is present in these menus if trying to print from MS Word or Safari, but is not there in the case of Adobe Photoshop or Lightroom. It's of no real interest in this context, though - in the present context it is the absence of the "Print Settings" and "Color Management" options which is critically important.
I guess this is maybe an Epson thing rather than an Apple thing, so maybe I will need to post elsewhere to get to the answer, but I'm really not sure where that might be.
So once again, any suggestions most welcome

  • Epson 777i printer will not print

Epson 777i Printer will not print
I am using an imac with the Epson Stylus Color 777i printer,Gutenprint v5.2.3 and also the Epson 580 printer.
Yesterday the 777i stopped printing.  It is in the paused mode. I have replaced the ink cartridges and have tried to
perform troubleshooting but, the printer will not respond to any commands.  The green light is on, neither of the
    other two lights are on.
The 580 printer is working with no problems.
I need some assistance to get the printer back on line if at all possible.  I am not too tech smart, but can follow
    directions well.

  • 10.4.6 (PPC) + iPhoto 6.0.4 + Epson CX4600 Print Queue stops

Trying to print to an Epson CX4600 all-in-one printer/scanner device from iPhoto 6.0.4 on an iMac G5 running OS X 10.4.6 causes the print queue to stop.
The CUPS error_log (with LogLevel = debug) says:
    D [29/Jun/2006:04:32:06 -0400] [Job 2] fatal::internal error -30891
    E [29/Jun/2006:04:32:06 -0400] PID 354 stopped with status 85!
I've tried deleting /Library/Printers/EPSON and /Library/Receipts/EpsonPrinterDrivers.pkg prior to reinstalling the Epson drivers from Tiger's install disks.
The printing system's been reset to delete all queues and printers.
The Epson's been added back using Printer Setup Utility -> Add -> Printer Browser -> More Printers... -> EPSON USB -> Add. (there's no option given to choose a Page Setup option in that dialog box, it's all greyed out)
Checked that the page setup, media size and type are all as they should be, and tried a different USB port (directly connecting - no hub)
Prints OK from TextEdit, but iPhoto's a no-no.
Anyone got a clue what the CUPS error message is trying to tell me? There's a full transcript of a failed printing attempt error log at http://web.org.uk/cupsfailed.txt if anyone's interested.
Two days spent trying to nail this one with no success.
    Powerbook G4 1.5GHz 15in   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Turns out the solution was to use Printer Setup Repair from Fix-a-Mac.
Used it to backup the printing system, then pushed all its buttons and rebooted. Result, printer auto-detected and set up correctly and the iPhoto printing problem is apparently resolved.

  • Epson R280 printer won't print after Apple Epson driver update

I have a 27" iMac running Mountain Lion. I use an Epson R280 printer to print directly onto CD/DVD media. Have used this printer daily for over three years. After an Apple Epson Driver update, I get a 'communication error' message and cannot print. Uninstalled and reinstalled printer. Power cycled printer and rebooted iMac. No Change. Hooked up same printer to my MacBook Pro running Mavericks and printer works. Ideas?

Thanks, Eric. I had tried that previously, but had no luck. I would add the printer back in after Reset, and it still didn't work. The real key step which I found from a previous solution was taking the existing print drivers in Library/Printers/Epson and trashing that folder and then emptying the trash. With those drivers gone, when I rebooted and then powered up and added the printer, Apple prompted me to download new drivers, and 'Voila!'. Back up and running. Thanks much.

  • Aperture printed image offset by 1/4" on Epson 7800 printer

I'm using Aperture 3.2.4 with System 10.7.4, and Epson 7800 printer, iMac.  Have printed many images, working properly.  But recently, every printed image is offset 1/4" up.  It looks correctly centered in the printer setup screen, but when printed, the bottom margin is 1/4" larger and the top one 1/4" smaller.  For this printer, the bottom margin is supposed to be fixed at 0.56" (9/16"), and it always used to be, and that's what the setup screen still says it is.  But now the printed image's bottom margin is 0.81" (13/16"), even though the setup calls for .56".
I've tried to compensate by adding 1/4" to the top margin, and that does bring the printed top margin up from 5/16" to 9/16", but the bottom margin remains 13/16"
    Anyone have any ideas?

I don't know why it is, just that it was a bug that was revealed about a year ago. I had similar problems with my 9800 and could not for the life of me figure out the cause. I had Epson telling me it was the humidity. I had Chromix telling me to put the UV filter on my Spectrolino, and it all came down to the default printer. Not sure exactly where I read about it first, but I'm glad that one more person now knows.

  • Epson R1900 printer & Snow Leopard

I have always had superb results with the Epson Stylus Photo R1900 (A3), until I installed Snow Leopard - now I cannot get a decent photograph no matter how much I tinker with the settings. I am using the recommended driver.
    Snow Leopard? S'no use!!

I had exactly this problem with Snow Leopard and my 2400, the first thing to know is that you must not use the gluten print driver it's crap. The following worked for me and my printer is now working fine :-
    1. Close any applications that are open.
    2. Click on the Apple icon and choose System Preferences. Choose "Print & Fax".
    3. Highlight the Epson printer in the list and click the delete button [-].
    4. If no other printers are installed, in Print and Fax please hold down the Control key and then in the list if printers, click and hold. That should present the "Reset printing system..." menu. Choose this option and confirm.
    5. Disconnect the printer from the computer.
    6. We will now remove the EPSON Printer driver from the system and delete the drivers that you downloaded.
Go to the Mac Hard Drive/Library/Printer and move the complete EPSON folder to the trash. Warning this removes all EPSON Printers.
    7. Also remove any drivers that were previously downloaded to the trash if the file name does not match that from our web site.
    8. Restart the Mac.
    9. Empty the trash.
    10. Now we will run a repair utility that may take up to 30 minutes to complete so please plan for this. Go to Mac Hard Drive/Applications/Utilities and open the Disk Utility. Note: If you cannot find it this way, use Spotlight to locate it.
    11. Select Disk First Aid at the top of the dialog box.
    12. Select the Mac Hard Drive Icon in the left hand pane.
    13. Select Repair Permissions at the bottom of the dialog box.
    14. When this has completed restart the Mac.
Power the printer on and connect it to the Mac. Ensure that it is directly connected to a port (such as a USB port) on the Mac and not via a third party device such as a USB hub.
You will now need to download the driver/s from the Epson website. Connect to the Epson website via the link below:
    http://esupport.epson-europe.com/FileDetails.aspx?lng=en-GB&data=zbff+oTjl0EHnix fShyxIHWVn0U002FZyJp6TQAu9H3pjHIU003D&id=324505
Download the printer driver for your printer and ensure this starts in the Download Manager you will need the driver 6.62. Try the following to install and add the driver:
    1. Locate the downloaded file and double-click it. This should mount a drive on the Desktop. Double-click this and a window should appear with a blue VISE icon. This is the printer driver installer, double-click this icon.
    2. Follow the on screen prompts to install the driver, restarting the Mac once the installation has been completed.
    3. Once restarted the driver needs adding to the printer list. To do this click on the Apple icon then System Preferences. Choose "Print & Fax" and ensure it is set on "Printing". If the gutenprint driver is listed here, highlight it then choose the delete option (this can normally be done by clicking the [-] minus sign.
    4. Normally, USB printers will add themselves automatically. Check the list for your printer. If listed, highlight the printer and the driver information will appear on the right. Under "Kind" the printer name should be listed, i.e. Epson SP R2400 Series with a version in brackets. If a gutenprint driver is listed or the 'Kind' indicates a different printer model delete this driver.
    5. If the Epson driver is not listed, click the add icon button [+] towards the bottom-left of the window. The window that will appear first will be the Printer Browser. Connected printers with a valid driver installed should appear, highlight it and click the "Add" button. Do not choose a different model from the list of printers that may be present. If 'Add' is greyed out, leave the browser open for 10 minutes and ensure that the printer is powered on and connected directly to the Mac. Do not connect it via a third party device such as a USB hub or hub in a keyboard.
    6. The printer should now be added to the printer list. Test the printer with a Nozzle Check so ensure paper is loaded. In Print & Fax, double-click the printer name and choose "Utility" from the top of the window that appears. In the Epson Printer Utility, select to print a 'Nozzle Check'.
This is taken direct from Epson support and worked for me
    Good luck

  • How do I connect my Airport Extreme 802.11n to Epson 645 Printer?

I can't figure out how to connect my Airport Extreme 802.11n to my Epson 645 Printer.  Can anyone help me?  Thanks!

You may want to try reinstalling Mavericks. Airport Utility installed by Mavericks may no longer connect to your older AEBS (though I've not heard that.) Installing the Old AirPort Utility (Version 5.6) on Mountain Lion | frank.is.
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and
after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears.
Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Select ReinstallLion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from
the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is
                    three times faster than wireless.

  • Pages '09 and an Epson RX580 printer

I just made the jump to an IMac. I have run into an issue with printing envelopes with my Epson RX580 printer. I downloaded and installed the newest drivers that are available for Leopard from the Epson site for this printer. When I try to print envelopes, either an imported Word doc or one that I created from a template I have 2 problems. The envelope looks fine on the screen but when I print it the first issue is that it has to be rotated 180 degrees from what the printer manual says and my experience with MS Word is. Second of all, the left side of the return address is truncated and it prints lower on the envelope than expected. I have not changed any of the default setting for Pages. I did try playing around with margin settings. I eventually fixed the truncation but the envelope looked bad - text was too far to the right and too low.
If this has been answered, I missed it an do apologize.
    Thanks,
    Jeff

Sorry, I was away for a couple of days. When I start from a scratch and use an envelope emplate, I am assuming that the margins are being set by the template. When I view the image on the screen it looks correct. When I print the envelope its off by a little (ok enough to be annoying) not by a lot. If I go to inspector/page set up the page attribute setting is #10 envelope (4 1/8 x 9 1/2) which is the correct size for the envelope. Am I missing something?
    Thanks,
    Jeff
