Adding "Favorites" Folders to Photoshop save/open dialogs Vista

Hi All,
Most apps in Vista display your folder "favorites" when you save/open. The CS4 apps, however, only display a few folders (recent places, desktop, etc.) and don't let you edit which folders are available to quickly select.
Anyone know how to force this window to either display additional folders or display your Vista favorites?
Thanks,
Adam

Thanks. From your link I discovered this helpful (and free) app:
http://www.askvg.com/placesbar-editor-customize-default-places-bar-in-common-file-dialog-b ox-in-windows-and-office/
Which does it all wisywig.
I still don't understand the Adobe dialogs don't resemble the Office (and other app) dialogs, which have the favorites folder by default -- obviously most people using Adobe apps need to quickly access a variety of folders on their computer. I do wonder if there is a way to customize these dialogs through the Adobe software.
Thanks though,
Adam

  • Strange folders appearing in "Save As" dialog box

    Hello
    *Description of Problem or Question:
If you open a Web Intelligence report that has been sent to you from your Inbox I have noticed there are "extra" folders I wouldn't expect to see. As an administrator and can see the following extra "strange" folders:
    Categories
    Inboxes
    Internal Storage Folder
    Personal Categories
    Root Folder
    Temporary Storage
    User Folders
    (Please see attached screenshot)
As a non-admin user I can only see the extra folder "Root Folder".
This does look odd for a non-admin user as they see the same folder structure twice. E.g:
    Public Folders
    >>Finance Reports
    >>Operations Reports
    >>Root Folder
    >>>>>Finance Reports
    >>>>>Operations Reports
Any ideas on how to hide these folders from the "save as" dialog box?
It does only seems to happen if a report is opened from a users Inbox.

Sorry I wasn't clear! When I try to save a 'PDF' file the "save as" dialog box opens. At the bottom the 'file name'is listed and below that it says, "save as type". You then pick what file type you want, like Adobe Reader for PDF. It used to say Adobe Reader as one of the choices but when I downloaded "Rocket PDF" it only says "Rocket PDF or "all files" as the only choices to save the document, no more Adobe Reader as a choice. I have deleted Rocket PDF and under 'default programs (Start button) I have set the "Pdf. files to open with Adobe Reader. Rocket PDF is still listed or' all files', nothing else! How can I get Adobe Reader as a choice back in the 'save as type' box?
    Thanks for any help.

  • Save/Open dialog crashes on opening a folder which contains multiple app. alias

    Hi:
This is my first post in Apple forum, I've been searching some pages here, obviously I'm not the only one having this (or similar) problem but all existing threads are suggesting "Safe Mode" or "Disk Util" these useless things and never worked for me.
I believe this is a bug from os x / Finder, not sure if this has been filed or not against Apple bug db.
    The problem:
Save/Open dialog hangs up when loading / opening an existing folder which contains multiple application alias
    How to reproduce:
    1) Use any browser (I use Firefox and Chrome) to open a page and  print the page / or download something, or print something as PDF
    2) When Save dialog ( some people call it file picker or location selector, whatever) pops up, select a folder which contains multiple application alias
    3) Dialog hangs up, and the application icon on those  alias will not be loaded successfully. Need to Force Quit the browser.
    4) Issue cannot be reproduced always, but frequently enough if you have many application alias and files / subfolders in the target folder
    5) By removing all the application alias, can workaround the issue.
    6) The icons of application on those alias are loaded slowly in a successful loading (seems there are some performance issues)
    7) This issue has not been observed before upgrading to Mavericks
    Env:
    27 inch iMac Late 2012, 2.9GHz i5, 8G DDR3, NVIDIA GTX660M 512M, OS X 10.9.1
Please anybody (not sure if Apple monitors this community) who knows details in regards to this, share some info. (or maybe there already is a fix ? ) .
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Lyle.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

  • Save Open dialog box opening very slow

I have windows 7 professional 64bit OS. whenever i try to open/save as dialog box it appears very slow, then it will say it is not responding then after 10-15sec it will come alive.
    Need help!!!!!!

    Blair,
I followed your suggestions above....reset IE ...clean boot. Didn't solve the problem.  (had trouble making that MSCONFIG window bigger !? <wink>)
Problem still exists.  And to be clear, here is the problem(s) ...I believe they are all interrelated.
#1.  I end the explorer.exe process and restart it.  Run Explorer and start clicking folders in my FAVORITES.  System hangs for about 10 seconds before it catches up.
Alternatly, after a explorer.exe restart, if I run explorer and start clicking down through folders from the C: drive, there is no hang.   SUSPECT - some sort of file for favorites needs to be rebuilt?!
#2. Open MS Word.  Type a few letters.  Select File/Save.  Most icons under Favorites are white.  Trying clicking more than one, but system hangs for ten seconds until icons fill in.
#3.  WINDOWS button, start typing in the search INTERNET....5-10 seconds before Internet Explorer (and other INT* things show up.!  Usually this is instantaneous.
    System Info:
Great machine and fast for over a year, and now this started FYI.

    - Ensure all folders are GENERAL under properties
    - Advanced Attributes - turned off "allow files on this drive to have contents indexed in addition to file properties"
    - Checked Indexed location is C: drive/ User/ just my data areas....reindexed
    - Tried reboot with Windows Search service disabled....no help.  Turned back on.
    - Tried MS Essentials off.  Tried Firewall off
    - Rebuilt ICONCACHE - was 8mb, now less 450kb
    - Archived OUTLOOK down to a reasonable size (and had to do the manual compress to reduce the file size after)
    - turned off some Windows visual effects.
    - Turned off Dropbox from autostarting....this was before I tried the Clean Boot
    - turned by ON (default)  in Startup - though it has Unknown MFG and no details  :~(   , i found that it likely is needed for my 64 bit machine.

  • How to force SAVE/OPEN dialog box to appear in IE? (save output locally)

    Hi all!
I currently have various reports in Excel format outputted in cache via the iAS browser.
Is there a way to programatically force a SAVE/OPEN BOX to appear in IE whenever my output is spreadsheet/excel? The prompt box appears on Firefox and Opera but not in IE, i take it that IE has already been 'configured' to open excel spreadsheet automatically in the browser.
Another spin to the question is: How do end users save the Reports output directly to their local machine; instead of having it opened in the browser or saving it in the midtier server

I found a backdoor solution to this:
at the URL link, i added &mimetype=application, this will force IE to show the save dialog box because it does not know what the application type is.

  • How to enforce save/open dialog on fileDownload

    Dear All,
in my adf bc app., an item is set to be displayed as fileDownload of OrdDocDomain to show a download link to the file stored in a orddoc column in a table. for doc file type, browser will prompt the dialog to ask to save or open, while for pdf or txt file, it just opens
the file in the new browser tab. i know it depends on the behavior of browsers, my wonder is, is there a workaround to enforce the dialog(save/open) to all types of files? thanks.
    regards
    Jerry

    Hi...
Usually in J2ee if you have a handle to response object...
You can add a header called Content-Disposition as attachment...
    response.addHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachement; filename=\"" + fileName + "\"")
By default Content-Disposition header will be "inline"..ie why the files are getting displayed in the page itself ( Given the format is supported by browser).
If you set it as attachment then the file download popup will come..
Hope you will be able to use this...
    Thanks..

  • Resize windows and manage files in save/open dialogs?

    1. How to resize windows by dragging any border or corner?
    2. How to manage files via a Save/SaveAs or Open dialog (rename, delete, copy other files, etc...)?
My search on these two things only comes up with comparisons and debates about Win vs Mac. Not relevant to the questions! I already run Win XP in Fusion when I have to for work. I don't want to run Windows; I just want to eliminate a couple Mac shortcomings since Apple hasn't. Yet. Maybe it has to do with patents...
Anyway, does anybody know of a utility or other way to enable these functions in Mac OS 10? (I've tried Pathfinder; it doesn't quite do the trick.)

I believe you will find a couple of third-party utilities that provide some enhancements for windows. As for file dialogs I can only recommend Default Folder X. You will find these at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

  • Photoshop Save As dialog changed- broken with Acrobat update?

I'm using CS3 on a 27" quad core iMac with 10.6.4. I'm trying to save small image files in a particular BMP format for embedded systems use- something I've done many times before.
However the Save As dialog in Photoshop no longer give the usual set of options- instead I see only:
    Photoshop
    Cineon
    Dicom
    Large Document Format
    Photoshop PDF
    Photoshop RAW
    PNG
    TIFF
Only thing that has changed is the updater for Acrobat that ran yesterday. The file format options that were in Photoshop are no longer present.
Of course, we are under the gun as a programmer is waiting for me to deliver the BMP files- all I can think to do is install Photoshop on another system.

The other thing that changed is your image color bit depth. Switch it back to 8 bit under the image menu.

  • Applescript/Photoshop save JPEG dialog hangs open

    re: OS 10.8.2 / Photoshop CS5.1
I have searched this issue but have not found a resolution. Every post I've found presents
"save current document in file filePath as JPEG with options myOptions"
as sufficient. When I try it, the dialog just hangs open:
This snippet works fine with TIFFs and PDFs:
tell application "Finder" to set filePath to (home as string) & "Desktop:TestFolder:Test.TIFF"
set thePosix to quoted form of POSIX path of filePath
    tell application "Adobe Photoshop CS5.1"
              set fileOptions to {class:TIFF save options, image compression:none, byte order:Mac OS, save alpha channels:true, save spot colors:true, embed color profile:true}
save current document in file filePath as TIFF with options fileOptions
    end tell
But when I try to save a JPEG this way, the Save dialog opens with the correct options, but it just stays open. I even tried to exit through the GUI (commented out) but the script is clearly waiting for the save to complete - the GUI commands never execute.
tell application "Finder" to set filePath to (home as string) & "Desktop:TestFolder:Test.JPEG"
set thePosix to quoted form of POSIX path of filePath
    tell application "Adobe Photoshop CS5.1"
              set fileOptions to {class:JPEG save options, quality:8, embed color profile:true}
save current document in file filePath as JPEG with options fileOptions
              delay 1
              tell application "System Events"
                        tell process "Photoshop"
                                  keystroke return
                                  delay 1
                                  keystroke return
                        end tell
              end tell
    end tell
This doesn't happen with a TIFF or a PDF. How do I exit the dialog?
    Thanks for your help.

Where's the dialog? Please post your full script.

  • Export Save / Open dialog box appears behind disco screen

    Hi all
Disco 10g Plus, excel, latest Sun java 6.16 jvm
We have an annoying but strange issue with exporting.
A user opens and runs a report ok.
Withing Disco 10 plus they then click on either file-Export-excel or click on the Export Excel icon on disco plus toolbar
Either way the export happens and a dialog box appears with blue progress bar and then this disappears.
And then nothing appears to happen.
However, something actually has happened, behind the disco 10 window the 'File Download' dialog box with 'Do you wish to open or save this file?' appears. Clicking on save saves it to PC and clicking open opens it in Excel which is fine.
I am not sure of this box belongs to excel or internet explorer but does anyone know of any way to have this dialog box appear IN FRONT of the current disco plus window as some of our users think that disco has 'frozen' and thus log support calls.
    thanks in advance,
    dw

    Hi dw
I have heard of folks complaining that exports to Excel hang. I have not had any feedback to say that the dialog box is actually open behind the scenes. This is very interesting news and thanks for reporting it. I will certainly look for this in the future and see if I can find a pattern.
If I may ask, what exact version of Discoverer are you on and what cumulative patch level have you implemented?
Also, what browser are you using and have you tried this in another one?
Have you tried deinstalling Java 6.16 and tested with an older one like 6.11 which I have seen working very well?
As much extra information as you can provide will definitely help and could trigger an idea from someone reading.
    Best wishes

  • Save/open dialog box doesn't appear

    Hi,
I have something strange. I can open and edit a project by double clicking on it, also start a new project. But when I want to save or open a project via "save as" of "open project" the dialog box doesn't appear. Saving an existing file trough "ctrl+s" works.
    Things I tried already are:
    - Restart my computer (windows)
    - Clear my AE cache
    - Reinstal AE
Has anyone has this before? It would be great if it got solved because I can't complete work because of it.
    Tnx & grtz,

Sorry, here the information that is required:
    Version 11.0.4.2 - CS6
    Installed recent updates: Yes
OS: Windows 7 Pro (Service pack 1) 64 bit
    Model: HP Z420 Workstation
Processor: Intel Xeon CPU E5-1620 @3.60Ghz
    Ram: 8Gb
Has it worked before: yes. It started after I opened a project (trough "open project") because double clicking on this project gives the follwoing error: "The directory name is invalid". Via "Open project" I could open it.
Do you have any third-party I/O hardware (e.g., AJA, Matrox, Blackmagic, MOTU)? No
    Quicktime 7 pro installed
Do you have any third-party effects or codecs installed? Yes, Optical Flares & Trapcode. But is unrelated since it isn't a specific project.
Are you using Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously multiprocessing? Yes
Are you using the ray-traced 3D renderer? No
Thanks for the help. If you need any other info, let me know

  • Save/open dialog box for FileWriter

    Hi,
I have a JSP action link with onclick='onClickExport', defined in an underlying class file.
The 'onClickExport' method in the class creates a file:
    fileName = "C:\\Temp\\SaveSearchResults.csv";
         File outputFile = new File(fileName);
FileWriter out = new FileWriter(outputFile);I write results to the file using
out.write statements and finally close it using out.closeAs you might have noticed the path for the file is hard-coded as C:\Temp, so the file gets written and downloaded there. Can I instead have the open/saveas dialog box pop-up where a user can type filename and select a location for the file to save...? (like content-disposition)
Can somebody point me how to do that...
    thanks,
    nik

JFileChooser can't be used with JSP. If invoked in Java on the server side, then the display will be on the server, and presumably, someone is not sitting there waiting for clients to want to save files remotely.
On the client side, well, there's always applets, but that has nothing to do with JSP. And it would only be able to browser the local client, so a signed applet would be needed.

  • Photoshop "save as" dialog not working on Parallels

I have Photoshop CS5 running on a MacBook OS 10.8 under Parallels/Windows XP.  When I try to "Save as", the dialog box does not come up.  I have installed the latest update.  The other CS5 programs (e.g., Dreamweaver and Fireworks) do not have this problem.  Also, when I try to do a "Save for Web and Devices", the dialog box DOES come up, but it is oversized for the window and cannot be resized to make the control buttons accessible.
Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Hi Noel!  Thanks for the suggestion.  I tried to fiddle with the window resolution in the control panel.  This made a mess...but in the process I discovered that if I run Photoshop in Coherence mode (i.e., not inside with Windows "window"), the dialogue box shows up.  So, your suggestion about the window resolution did solve the problem.
    Thank you!

  • Make Search bar in "Save/Open" dialog box search in filename only

By default it searches inside files, is there a way to restrict it to filenames?

Not to start it going, no. But you can change it to name only. Type something, anything, in the Search box. When the search gets started you'll notice you have a new line under the toolbar that has
    Computer Home "SomeFolder" Save +
With "SomeFolder" probably being either the last folder used in the application, or else the one you have navigated to. Then there is the Save button (although I can't imagine what it would actually be useful for) and the "plus" inside a little circle. Click the + and another line appears, with "Kind: Any"--change to Name in the drop down menu and select which of the usual options you want (Contains, Begins with, etc). BTW, I was just fooling around with it, and discovered that while the Name option works perfectly well, the options for Date Created and Date Modified don't work at all, although Last Opened seems to be OK. Ah well.

  • How to add favorite folders to "Save As.." dialog screen

    Hi all,
To the Windows Explorer shell it is possible to add favorite folders to the "Save as..." dialog screen (done so by dragging shortcuts to an open "Save as..." screen). [ see screendump for what I am referring to ]
Now one would suppose the same is possible for the "Save As..." screen from within Adobe Acrobat Pro.
Unfortunately, it is not: no possibility to add favorite locations there....
This isn't productive at all, since my docs are on a separate disc in non-standard folders. Each time I wish to save PDF-scanned documents to the harddisk, I need to click my way through too much folders...
Anyone know a way (registry edit perhaps?) that enables me to add favorites to the Adobe "Save As..." screen?
(I really need it there, instead of e.g. creating shortcuts on my Desktop...)
    Thanks for your help!
    Willy

Ok, here are three solutions I tested, all seem to work in my copy of vista.
The easiest: grab the 'places bar editor' from here: http://melloware.com/download/
Moderate: use TweakUI, the windows XP utility.  You need to jump through some hoops to get it to run in Vista, but it seems to work fine.  Follow the instructions by n8barber a few posts down: http://forums.techarena.in/vista-help/700353.htm
Hardest: edit the registry.  I added the string using a single \ in the path, but somehow when i exported it I show a double \.  I guess you will have to fiddle with this.
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\comdlg32\PlacesBar]
    "Place4"="h:\\Project Files"
