Adding Features fail Win 8

adding features to windows 8, something went wrong error, i'm trying to upgrade to Windows 8 media centre, it fails every time, tried everything, microsoft techies didnt solve it either!

Hi, could you please specify, what exactly fails? Are you taking about failing activation?
If you are talking about failing activation process that you perform with Windows Activation wizard, try the following at the elevated command prompt:
1. Execute the command sequence below:
C:\Windows\system32\>slmgr/upk
C:\Windows\system32\>slmgr/cpky
C:\Windows\system32\>slui 3
2. When you get an error from Windows Activation, close the wizard, wait for some time, and repeat the command sequence in step 1.
Licensing manager commands
The commands above do the following:
slmgr/upk --- uninstalls currently used product key
slmgr/cpky --- performs additional cleanup procedure and removes currently used (or just uninstalled) product key from the system registry
slui 3 --- starts Windows Activation wizard that allows you to specify WMC product key and activate Windows 8 PRO with a new key to obtain the Media Center pack.
Well this is the world we live in And these are the hands we're given...

    Hi
You should check the Microsoft Add features: FAQ which provides an answer to most frequent questions about this theme:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/add-features-frequently-asked-questions
Very interesting should be this point:
    +*Q:* What features are available?+
*A:* _There are two different feature packs available for Windows 8.1_ or Windows 8:
The Windows 8.1 Pro Pack and Windows 8 Pro Pack have enhanced networking and data encryption featuresand include Windows Media Centerbut you need to have Windows 8.1 or Windows 8 already installed and activated on your PC.
The Windows 8.1 Media Center Pack and Windows 8 Media Center Pack offer Windows Media Center, but you need to have Windows 8.1 Pro or Windows 8 Pro already installed and activated.
For more details about these options, see the Add features webpage on the Windows website.

  • Server 2012 R2 - The Request To Add Or Remove Features Failed

I am having a frustrating time adding Remote Access role to my 2012 R2 domain controller (HyperV VM)...
It keeps failing with THE REQUEST TO ADD REMOVE FEATURES FAILED
I've tried repairing my component store with no luck...it keeps telling me the server requires a restart.
Could this have ANYTHING to do with the host machine needing a reboot? That is one thing I've not tired yet.
I've checked and followed this as well with no luck:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/systemcenter/en-US/24ab19c2-84de-4b89-beea-b0e3053c2e61/cannot-install-due-to-pending-reboot-prerequisite-check

    Hi Brian,
Check the below points regarding this issue,
    - Make sure there are no entries in HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session -Manager\ PendingFileRenameOperations.
    - If there are, reboot to get them processed. Or do the renames manually and delete them.
    - Run DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth to clean up the component store.
    - Don't install on a Domain Controller.
Once you have checked the above points try to add the role again.

  • When adding features, "Add features to Windows 10 Technical Preview" dialog displays error "Couldn't add features"

The process for adding features by selecting "Add features to Windows 10 Technical Preview" from control panel fails with error "Cannot add features. Your previous edition of Windows has been restored, but you should contact Microsoft support."
This occurs after entering the key and the system attempts to reboot and apply updates. During the reboot, the updates begin to apply, fail after a certain percent, then roll back. After rollback and logging in again the above mentioned error message is displayed
in the "Add features to Windows 10 Technical Preview" dialog. Build 9926. Any tips on how to fix this?

  • How to Upgrade solution to get the newly added feature

    Hello,
I have a scenario like following:-
    1. Have a solution deployed already
    2. Solution have a feature which creates a list on activating and deletes the list on deactivation.
    3. Now modified the exsisting solution as the list should not be deleted.
    4. Feature will create the list if the list not exists only.
    5. Added some others features.
Now I need to update the new .wsp but it does not reflect the latest added features untill I retract the old one and deploy the new one. If I retract the old one, it deletes the existing list(point#2) which I dont want as the list has lots of data.
So what should be the proceedure by which I can update the latest wsp and get the newly added feature without deleting the exsisting list?
    Thanks in advance.

You can use the Update-SPSolution command first:
    Update-SPSolution [-Identity] <SPSolutionPipeBind> -LiteralPath <String> [-AssignmentCollection <SPAssignmentCollection>] [-CASPolicies <SwitchParameter>] [-Confirm [<SwitchParameter>]] [-Force <SwitchParameter>] [-FullTrustBinDeployment <SwitchParameter>] [-GACDeployment <SwitchParameter>] [-Local <SwitchParameter>] [-Time <String>] [-WhatIf [<SwitchParameter>]]
This will deploy your new DLL to the SharePoint environment. After that, retract, remove, add and install the solution to make the new features available.

  • What happened to the "Just Added" feature?

I used to rely on the "Just Added" feature and can't seem to find it in the new version of iTunes. Does it still exist?

I just figured it out. Put "Just Added" in the search field and hit enter. It takes you there.

I have narrowed this issue down to .net 3.5 install.
I have boot, efi, sources, support, autorun, bootmgr, bootmgr.edi, and setup.
I have confirmed that the sxs folder is there.
I also just added WindowsSource=%DeployRoot%\Operating Systems\Windows Server 2012 R2 SERVERSTANDARDCORE x64\sources\sxs to my customsettings and updated the boot iso.  I am still receiving the errors.
One last bit of information I am able to get to the deployment share with the sxs folder in it from the reference machine I am creating but when I manually try to install .net 3.5 from roles and features to the share it fails. But if I copy the files local
    they work fine.
I seem to have permission issues with other subfolders also.

    Hi SV,
You have already posted this issue 3 years back and the suggestion made their still holds good.
    Trouble Installing EDI/AS2 Runtime
Also refer the thread where the user has faced same issue:
BizTalk 2009 Configuration failing in EDI/AS2 runtime configuration
As suggested, could be that somehow the Microsoft.BizTalk.GlobalPropertySchemas
is not recognized by BizTalk when it configured EDI, though the dll still resides in the GAC folder.
Go to BizTalk Administration console and try to manually add the assembly in the resources of "BizTalk Application 1"  application. Then try to configure EDI and hopefully this time you will be able to configure it without any problem.

  • SharePoint PowerPivot feature failing after site collection was backed up and restored (moved to new content database)

    Hi there,
I am having some strange issue with my PowerPivot for SharePoint but can't figure out what is causing this. Here is what happened:
I setup PowerPivot (PP) for SharePoint and activate it on few site collections in production environment; I upload a PP workbooks in a library, manage the data refresh schedules, run the data refresh for an external SQL databases, etc. Everything works
    fine for several days.
One day we decide the move one of the site collections (X) from its current content database to its own (new) content db. The way we did it is that we took the site collection backup in production, restored it in test environment (in its own content
db; we deleted the old site collection in test first before restoring), checked everything including PP data refreshes etc.; all worked fine.
Then we did the same thing in production - we deleted the old site collection X, restored the site collection from the same backup file that we used in test environment, everything works fine EXCEPT the PowerPivot refreshes!! :-(
I am getting these errors: When I click on the workbook, it gives this error "An error occurred during an attempt to establish a connection to the external data source. The following connections failed to refresh: PowerPivot Data"
When I click OK on error dialogbox, it opens the workbook fine but no slicers/refreshes work now. When I go back to the library and click on "Manage PowerPivot Data Refresh" to open the refresh history/schedule page, it gives this generic but scary
error: "An unexpected error has occurred. Troubleshoot issues with Microsoft SharePoint Foundation." ULSViewer or Event viewer is not showing anything related to this error!
Strange thing is that PP refresh works fine in Test environment, as well as on other site collections in production that we didn't touch (which tells me there is nothing wrong with my PP configuration). Did the backup/restore in prd cause anything? Did moving
it in its own contentdb cause anything? (But then why it works in test environment?) Is there anything wrong with site collection PP feature? Can force reactivating it help??????? I am just lost and going crazy now!
    Please help.

  • Suggestions for Added features on the SW2

    Hi
Just thought i would ask for a some features to be added
you never know someone could listen hehe
    1. Turn on the Backlight by a flick of the wrist,
At night the only way to view the time is to press the button , the Pebble can do it so i'm sure Sony can
    2. A decent Digital watchface
The watchfaces shown all over the web before release look ok , something you can see the date on and not just the time
    3. A music control app
Again the app shown everywhere but for some reason didnt make it into the final build
    4. Arrange plugins how you want to
I know that you can arrange plugins by Favourite or a-z but i need the ability to place the apps into the order that i want
as at least 2 apps i need immediate acces to are not the most used and dont begin with A so i have to scroll to use them.
    5. Not having press the button
I would like to be able to use the watch without having to press the button first and then press home
Maybe you could implement a swipe across the 3 bottom buttons to wake , that would be a lot easier
and fina;lly please dont let this become another Liveview or smartwatch where the only firmware upgrades break functions and then instead of fixing then Sony just release another watch, It's happened twice now and with all the competition now it will not go well if it happens again
Also if anyone has anything too add then feel free
    Thanks

Hi, I'm glad to see that others also would like to have the date shown on the watch face.
I would purchase a SW2 if it had a digital watch face that showed the time and date.  I would like it to have a face with the following:
    12:00 00 PM
    Tue 10-29-2013

  • Can someone explain to me the added features if I get an iPad with cellular?

I am looking at buying an iPad for my 11 year old.  Can you explain the advantages of wifi + cellular to me?  I don't understand the features of having cellular added on?

They are the same feature wise. The only difference is how the connect to the internet.
If you have WiFi only you can only get internet access while connected to a WiFi hot spot or access point.
WiFi + Cellular has internet access when no WiFi is available like your cell phone

  • Active "Report Service Integration Feature" failed

    Hi Expert,
I tried to reactive the "Report Service Integration Feature" from "Deactivate", but failed. system show
The content type with Id 0x010100C3676CDFA2F24E1D949A8BF2B06F6B8B defined in feature {e8389ec7-70fd-4179-a1c4-6fcb4342d7a0} was found in the current site collection or in a subsite.
Please let me know how to fix it.

One thing you could try is (re)installing the SSRS 2014 addin on your SharePoint server(s).

  • Features in win XP via boot camp

has anyone found ways to make some of the mac features work in windows?
for example, in order to get to the task manager u have to manually run it, because windows thinks your delete key is a "backspace" and the mac dosen't have a delete key. this makes it hard to hit ctrl-alt-del.
perhaps the biggest thing that will be a problem is the ability to right click. anyone know how to set a shift-click or something to be a right click?
Also, the volume and brightness keys do not seem to work in win xp.
and, the 2 fingered scrolling seems to be a constant anoyance to not have in windows.
other than that everything seems to be working good for me constantly switching between windows and mac.
black mb   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

The key board issues can be alleviated via a keyboard mapper, just google it. As for right click, this utility will make it happen for you http://tinyurl.com/gbmmh
Brightness should work via a icon in the windows tool tray (next to clock). There should be a icon that looks like a screen, click it and it'll allow you to increase/decrease screen brightness. That should have been installed with the boot camp driver disk you created. Volume same thing, use the sound icon in the task bar.
CTRL-ALT-DEL can be accessed via right clicking the task bar and chosing task manager.
You can't two finger scroll however. If you're not doing games or video editing in windows you may wish to get parallels which will allow you to run XP while in OS X and most everything works and quite well, including two finger scrolling.
