Adding files from another library

I am trying to add songs to my ipod that I got on my library on my home computer. The songs that I am trying to add are from another computer that has the same version of itunes and is a HP with windows Xp. I know there is a way I can do this because the other computer saw my ipod and put the files on there just fine.
Thanks

You'll need to switch to manual update (iPod preferences after the iPod is attached).
After that, you'll need to drag the songs to the iPod icon in the source panel.
Good luck!

  • Syncing ipod already containing files from another library:

If I were to get a used ipod already containing music and videos, then went to sync the same ipod with files from MY iTunes library, how could I do this without erasing the files already on the ipod (I've seen before in this situation, iTunes gives a message that this ipod contains files from another library, they will be erased, etc. etc.)? Is there some way to first "sync" from the ipod over to iTunes?
    Thanks!!

No, there is not a simple way to do that. You could get a music retrieving program, but that would probably cost money. Any category you select to sync with your library (music, video, games, etc), it will erase everything. (I went through it twice.) It's a different story if your iPod is formatted with a different OS, like Mac to Windows and vice versa. You would have to erase and reformat everything on that iPod.
Example: my sister got a new used iPod once, and we chose to sync music, pictures, and video, but keep the games already on there since we had not bought any.
    Hope this helps!

  • Adding files from another desktop on the same computer

I am new to this discussion and I did a quick search to see if anything turned up similar to this question. My husband and I have our own desktops on our Mac; he has several songs that I want from his iTunes library and vice versa. We can't figure out how to add files from each other's library to save our lives. When I go to the import section of iTunes, I can get to his desktop, but there is a little stop symbol with a "-" sign next to his music folder. It is probably very simple, but short of burning a disc and doing it that way, I can't figure it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Power PC G5   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

The stop/- sign means the folder is read protected. You can only (by default) use his public folder. To transfer items via copying them over the network you would need to log in as an administrator (most likley as his account) remotely. This will give you acccess to all of his folders.
If you want to copy between folders on the same machine you need to be an administrator. Try logging in with the admin account.
If you want to just share the music you can do that too. In OS X Preferences -> Sharing -> Firewall -> check the share iTunes Music checkbox.
In iTunes you would then need to go to iTunes Preferences -> Sharing -> Make sure both the share button and the "Looked for shared music" and "Share my Music are checked" are checked.
    Do this two both machines.
And you should then see a folder in iTunes with the other music.
If you are on a network this works out well with out having to duplicate two sets of data/mp3s.
    Hope this helps.

  • Itunes Won't add certain fully Compatible Video Files from Another Library

I recently updated to Leopard 10.5.2 on all my Mac computers. Ever since doing so, trying to add certain ipod compatible files to my Windows machine is touch and go. I have been doing the same add a file network transfer every day without incident pulling from three different Mac Itunes libraries. Until I went from 10.5.1 to 10.5.2. I can see, click, and request the file, but some files transfer without delay, others never copy over. I can't figure out why. One day recurring files with similar names transfer, others don't. I thought it could be a file name issue or directory name length, but I couldn't detect a pattern. The only way to transfer the file is to copy and paste to my Windows desktop, then drag and drop to my Windows Itunes libarary. Everything works fine that way, but it takes extra steps. Anyone have any ideas. I have no trouble with both my Mac and windows machines seeing each other and trasnferring files using explorer and Finder.

When this happens on my Win XP home PC, the file & folder have been mysteriously set to read only.
But you said yours were coming from a Mac, right?
In Windows, right-click on the file > Get Properties. I uncheck the read only box. Sometimes I have to restart iTunes. Other times I've had to restart the whole PC because the lock won't go away until I do.
Older versions of Windows had a nifty way to get rid of file locks on-the-fly, but they removed it in WinXP.
It's not just iTunes, either. These random file locks/read only settings happen with other files. I started happening about 6-9 months ago after a Windows update.

  • Move file from one library to another library via SharePoint 2010 Designer Workflow

Can SharePoint 2010 designer be able to move a file from one library to another using workflow?  I tried to use the copy list item but it won't show my destination library.  I prefer not to use the 3rd part workflow like
    http://www.codeplex.com/SPDActivities
    Please advise.

    Hi Brain,
From your narration, I undersatnd that you want to move document to another library across site or site collection. However,
the copy list item action is used for coping list item to another library or list in the same site, so you can’t achieve it through ootb workflow action. So to move document to another library across site under the same site collection, then you can use site
content and structure. If across site collection, then I suggest you use that the 3rd part workflow action.
For more information about site content and structure,

  • How do I open library file from another application?

I'm trying to upload a picture from my IPhoto library to the internet. When the internet program asks me to name a file, I browse my "Pictures" folder. And I see the iphoto library there, but it is not available to select. I need to be able to select an individual photo file.
I've worked around this by first copying the file from the library to my desktop, but that's cumbersome and shouldn't be necessary.
    How can I do this?
    Thanks,

There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
    *For Users of 10.5 Only*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
    *For users of 10.4 and 10.5* ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • Can't drag files from itunes library (to anywhere) anymore.

Recently I've noticed I can no longer drag files from the library in my itunes. I can't drag them to playlists, and I can't drag them to the desktop.
I have repaired permissions and even tried removing the library.xml file and let it generate a new one, but I still get the same result.
I am on a mac os 10.6.8 Macbook Pro.
I'm not sure when ths started happening, but I wonder if it has something to do with an itunes update. I have the newest version and always dwnload the updates. I can still add files to the library by control-clicking the files and selecting the option in the dropdown list. This isn't an intentional change in the way the program works is it? Is no one else having this problem??

Iphone will sync or manually manage with one and only one computer at a time.
Syncing or manually managing to another will indeed erase the current content and replace with the content from the new computer.

  • How to compile and run a .java file from another java program

    hello,
can any one tell me how to compile and run a *.java* file from another java program which is not in same directory?

Well a smarter way of implementing this is by using a solution provided by Java Itself.
If you are using J2SE 6.0+ there is an in built solution provided along with JDK itself and inorder to go ahead with solution the below are set of API which you;d be using it for compiling Java Programs (Files)
    http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/javax/tools/package-summary.html
How do i do that ??
Check out the below articles which would help you of how to do that
    http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/java/library/j-jcomp/index.html
    http://www.javabeat.net/javabeat/java6/articles/java_6_0_compiler_api_1.php
    http://books.google.com/books?id=WVbpv8SQpkEC&pg=PA155&lpg=PA155&dq=%22javax+tools%22+compiling+java+file&source=web&ots=XOt0siYe-f&sig=HH27ovuwvJgklIf8omTykUmy-eM
Now once we are done with compilation. In order to run a Specific class all you ought to do is create an object and its specific methods of a specified class included in the CLASSPATH which you can manage it easily by usage little bit reflections.
    Hope that might help :)

  • N95 - restored .nbu file from another phone

    Hello,
So I had the "bright" idea of using the "restore" function of the PC Suite using an .nbu file from another Nokia phone (my previous job mobile).
In my head this would work something like:
    1. click restore using the .nbu from the other phone
    2. all contacts/ sms's/ calendar entries will be added to the ones already into my N95
    3. voila--> I have evertyhing in one phone.
What seems to have really happened, is that I now only have the contacts/ sms's/ calendar entries of that other job mobile, and all the stuff from my N95 has dissapeared...
I am kind of hoping that someone here can help me.
Is there any way to get my old contacts/ smss back?
    Thank you!

  • How to get latest added file from a folder using apple script

    Hi..
I am trying to get a latest added file from a folder..and for this i have below script
    tell application "Finder"
set latestFile to item 1 of (sort (get files of (path to downloads folder)) by creation date) as alias
        set fileName to latestFile's name
    end tell
By using this i am not able to get latest file because for some files the creation date is some older date so is there any way to get latest file based on "Date Added" column of a folder.

If you don't mind using GUI Scripting (you must enable access for assistive devices in the Accessibility System Preference pane), the following script should give you a reference to the last item added to any folder. Admittedly not the most elegant solution, but it works, at least under OS X 10.8.2.
    set theFolder to choose folder
    tell application "Finder"
        activate
set theFolderWindow to container window of theFolder
        set alreadyOpen to exists theFolderWindow
        tell theFolderWindow
            open
            set theInitialView to current view
set current view to icon view
        end tell
    end tell
tell application "System Events" to tell process "Finder"
        -- Arrange by None:
set theInitialArrangement to name of menu item 1 of menu 1 of menu item "Arrange By" of menu 1 of menu bar item "View" of menu bar 1 whose value of attribute "AXMenuItemMarkChar" is "✓"
        keystroke "0" using {control down, command down}
        -- Sort by Date Added:
set theInitialSortingOrder to name of menu item 1 of menu 1 of menu item "Sort By" of menu 1 of menu bar item "View" of menu bar 1 whose value of attribute "AXMenuItemMarkChar" is "✓"
        keystroke "4" using {control down, option down, command down}
-- Get the name of the last item:
set theItemName to name of image 1 of UI element 1 of last scroll area of splitter group 1 of (window 1 whose subrole is "AXStandardWindow")
        -- Restore the initial settings:
click menu item theInitialSortingOrder of menu 1 of menu item "Sort By" of menu 1 of menu bar item "View" of menu bar 1
click menu item theInitialArrangement of menu 1 of menu item "Arrange By" of menu 1 of menu bar item "View" of menu bar 1
    end tell
    tell application "Finder"
set current view of theFolderWindow to theInitialView -- restore the initial view
if not alreadyOpen then close theFolderWindow

  • How do I move files from Event Library to Project Library?

How do I move Files from Event Library to Project Library? I tried drop and drag, that didn't work. I am new to Apple. I have always had a windows box b4 this. If anyone can help, please do. Thanks
    Alain

welcome argardner to the  boards..
you're missing the concept of iM .. you don't move 'files' from Event to Project Library.. Events is the big box of all your imported clips; now, from that box of bricks, you drag the clips into all kind of projects.. you can 're-use' the same clip again'n again in many projects.. you can use all clips of all Events in one Project.. or all clips of one Event in two projects.. or..
    spend some time here:
    http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/#imovie
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/iMovie08_GettingStarted.pdf
the concept of Events & Projects, Clips and Libraries is at first glance very different to 'normal' editing apps, but you'll get convenient to it within minutes..

  • How to open Adobe Reader file from another native IOS application?

There is an existing thread, but I want to re-open it because I think this is an important feature that we need badly.  I was wondering if there is any plan to add this feature so we can open PDFs directly into Adobe from the web / other apps.
How to open Adobe Reader file from another native IOS application?
Basically, we just want to use a custom URL scheme to open a specific document in the App.  Currently, this only opens the app but does not load the file.
    APB

Not to hijack the conversation but I can explain why this would be useful for both the above case and another.
What I believe Pavel is talking about is setting up a "URL Scheme" for the Adobe Acrobat iOS application so that you can easily open a PDF specifically in Adobe Acrobat iOS from other native applications and even from web applications opened within Safari. This is particularly useful if your application requires some of the specific features in Adobe Reader iOS to grant them the best experience possible and you want to encourage this.
Another case: If you're using Adobe Livecycle's document security modules (that encrypts PDF files so that Adobe Acrobat must "phone home" to decrypt and view the document), these PDF's can only be viewed inside the Adobe Acrobat application and appear as blank in most other PDF readers. Having a URL scheme allows your application utilising this functionality to have a 1 click step to view the PDF rather than the current non-user friendly process:
    - Within Safari, touch the PDF link (appears as blank in the default Safari PDF reader, which in itself is confusing)
      - Touch "Open in..."
      - Touch "Adobe Acrobat"
We have an immediate need for this functionality for the example above. I can resubmit it in a separate post if necessary.
