Adding files to the FCP X Music & Sound Facility

Having recorded, say, a Sound Effect using Soundtrack that I want to keep for future use, the logical thought is to export it as an AIF file and add it to the iTunes Library, something I have done in the past. Now iTunes won't recognise the Soundtrack file. I have posted this message on the iTunes forum, but is there a way of adding the file to the Music & Sound facility without using iTunes, or what is the next best option.
What I had tried initially was to copy a MPEG 4 movie, which iTunes will import, however as I was only interested in the soundtrack I took the movie file into Soundtrack and exported the AIF file intending to addd it to the iTunes library so that it would appear in the Sound iTunes listing, but  I can't.
Thanks

Hellp Tom
You have got me confused. My original intention was to use Soundtrack to strip the audio from an MPEG 4 movie and  save it in iTunes for use in FCP X. The problem was that iTunes wouldn't recognise an aiff file created by Soundftrack 3.01. either from the Movie or from an audio recording from a microphone. However the same aif file introduced into Garage Band 4.1.2 and converted to AAC was accepted by iTunes. It was then availble for use in FCP X. My version of Garage Band only appears to export in either AAC or MP3, so how do I get an aif file into iTunes in order to access it in FCP X?
I could create the aif file in Soundtrack , drag it to my Music Folder, and then import it to my FCP X event folder, but that is messy.
Alternatively is there a way of creating a new folder in the Sound & Music pane of FCP X into which I could put my files, although that isn't an ideal solution?
In what way is an AAC file ubsuitable for FCP X?
Thanks

  • How do I import old FCP projects that have mysteriously changed to Linux Executable files?  Is it as simple as renaming the files with the.fcp extension?

I had some FCP projects on an old G3 tower that I finally want to finish. I was able to grab everything, media, etc. to my macbook pro but all of the Final Cut Pro actual movies/projects have turned into "linux executable files" that FCP X won't import.
I tried googling this issue but didn't really see any good answers. Would it be as simple as renaming the files with the .fcp extension?  I can't recall if my old version (really old) of FCP saves projects as .mov or .fcp files, but I'm assuming I'm not the only person this has happened to.
    Thanks for your help!

I had some FCP projects on an old G3 tower that I finally want to finish.
What version of FCP was this? The project files can probably no longer be opened in the newer version of the OS. You could try adding the .fcp suffix, but I don't think it will help for this. Projects files are .fcp.
Regardless of the version, no legacy FCP projects will import into FCPX.
Media is a different matter. These are probably QuickTime .mov files. If these are appearing as Unix ececutables, they're probably not recoverable either.

  • Making us able to add LOCAL FILES to the new "Your Music"

First of, I'm a huge fan of the new layout.
But as the title says I'd like to add my own beloved local files to the "Your Music". I don't see why this shouldn't be a possibilty. This way I don't need to have one master playlist, I can just have all the music I like under "Your Music -> Songs".
Also, as suggested earlier, changing the font size could be usable to many people.

Simply put: give us a totally seamless integration of local files and subscribed albums/songs in "your music" or whichever name you choose ... Call it "the bucket" and I don't care, I'm here for the functionality, not the marketing.
I mean: ONE container, with all items displayed (album covers and so on), searchable and playable exactly the same way.
I'm a long time music passionate, and I have a personal collection of hundreds of CDs, which majority is unavailable on spotify. So ATM I'm using iTunes (and iPhone Music app) to listen to my ripped own stuff, and spotify for all the rest. Sounds like a no-brainer to anyone? It's not impossible, iTunes does that exceptionally well.
This is THE ONLY aspect that actually prevents me from subscribing.

  • Adding files to the portal

    Hi
I have an HTML form which has an <input> of type "file." I want to enter a file into the portal, into a specific folder within a specific content area. Supposedly, all I need to do is use the wwsbr_api.add_item function. I've created a PL/SQL procedure which I call from my HTML that what it does is get the parameters from the HTML form (the file name), and then apply the add_item function.
(I do know the folder's and the content area's id).
It's not working. I'm getting an ORA-29532 Error. (some Java security exception)
So, how do I enter a file directly into the Portal?
(A code example would be great!!!)
    Thanks,
    Dan
    p.s
I've seen in some example where they use a wwv_.....saveitem function (cant remember the package name -- I could look it up if anybody is interested). This function is not documented anywhere, and so I'm afraid to use it because I dont understand all the parameters, and who knows what changed they'll do to it in the next version and I wont be able to use it anymore....

    Dan,
    You have two options.
If you want to upload the document via a browser - then use the add_item_post_upload function (vs the add_item function).
This function assumes that the document is already uploaded and that the p_file_name being passed is the actual document 'NAME' returned when the document is uploaded.
The other option is to use the add_item procedure and put the document somewhere on the same machine as the database
-- then the value for p_file_filename is expected to be "The full directory and filename for the file to be uploaded for this file item. The file path must be visible from the
database machine." If this method is used then the document will be uploaded from the directory into the database as part of the add_item function.
    Hope this helps.

  • Adding files to the library

I have a few things I've recorded myself and some other audio I would love to use to expand my Soundtrack Pro library. What's the proper way (if there is one) to add files to the library so they show up in the application's library? Sorry if this has been asked before. I tried searching for the question in a few different ways. Thanks in advance.

OKay, I just came across a question someone had about moviny their library and I realized the way they did it is also the way to add directories, so I indirectly got my answer.

  • Why does my voice effect change the way my music sounds too?

I have an instrumental track that I was recording my voice over and I put my vocals in the Mouse Effect. When I played it back my music was in the mouse effect too. How can I just have my voice in Mouse effect and my music with no effect when I record? It says no effect on the music track, but it still sounds like a mouse.

No. I notice that it only happens when I split the track. I wanted the music to start at a certain point so I split it so it would start in the middle.

  • Does anyone know of a way to export a .gfx file from the FCP 7 timeline? If not, do you know of a plug-in or even a stand alone video converter that will accomplish this? I can convert FROM gfx, but cannot convert TO gfx. Thanks.

Having a problem with files that are exported from FCP and delivered to Master Control. They are then
transcoded to .gfx by Rhozet software for air as a .gfx in Grass valley's K-2's. Any help would
    be appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks neuroanatomist. That was really helpful, but when I went in and looked in my SMS folder, I opened it under notepad and it was all garbled and hard to read. It didn't look like in my iphone of indicating conversations between me and another person. I could see my conversations, but they where all mixed in with numbers and weird characters I've never seen before. You wouldn't happen to know of another program out there that can put it perhaps like in a word doc. or even excel sheet? Something that's just organized. Thanks.
Anyone else care to help me out with some mac community friendly advice? Thanks!

  • Double music/sound files

I recently noticed that my HD was way too full, so I started checking the sizes of some maps and I bumped om my music map which has a size of 100 gig. It contains all music, sounds and soundprojects om my computer. I'm sure that all those files are imported in my iTunes and the total size of that is 44 gig. So 56 too much.
I noticed that ALL files outside the iTunes > iTunes music map are doubled, created by iTunes itself I assume.
My question is now: can I just permanently delete all the files outside the iTunes music map? Without having to import everything again and losing playlists and info?
And how do I set that iTunes just imports every new audio file by itself, so I don't have to put them outside the itunes map before I import them?

    Thanks, it worked.
Just to be clear: the files OUTSIDE the itunes folder are the ones that need deletion.
Yes, if you had a file outside the iTunes folder, and if you added that file to the library while the *"Copy files ..." option was on,* then iTunes would have put a copy inside the iTunes folder, and the copy outside the folder is not needed by iTunes.
If you have multiple copies and want to be sure which one iTunes is using, right-click the track in the library, and choose Show in Explorer.

  • What file is the music in, to back up

I want to back up my music from the itunes file in my computer, but i can't find the file where the songs are. in other words, when I upload songs into my computer into itunes, how do I find the file to send a copy to a backup external hard drive.

If the songs got to your library either by using iTunes to rip a CD, or by purchasing from the iTunes Store, or by adding files with the "Copy..." option set, then they would have been placed in your iTunes folder. If you did something different, they may be elsewhere.
If you are wondering where a particular file is located, right-click its iTunes library entry and choose Show in Explorer.

  • 7.6 can only find files in the itunes folder - My Music files are all lost

Since upgrading to itunes 7.6 all my old files that were located in My Music are no longer found by itunes. However all files in My Music/itunes are found.
I have not changed the file names, what has happened?
As I have loads of files in the old My Music folder it is a problem to redirect every file individually.
I do have a backup of the computer but what do I restore as all the music files are where they have always been?

Again many thanks. I have tried to tidy up the folders as per your idiot guide- which term is appropriate for me
Under iTunes Media though I do not have  folders for Books,iPod Games, Mobile Applications, Movies, TV Shows so I only have  Auto Add to iTunes, Music, Downloads and Podcasts - My question here is is this OK.
Next - Library files that you mention are there but do not end .itdb
Next  - in the main iTunes folder followingon from Artwork and Media folders  there is some other  iTunes database stuff like Library Extras, Library Genius, Library and Music Library(xml) all dated 10/02/12 plus MimiPlayer .dll dated 21/02/14 and Set Up Short Cut dated22/03/14
AND there is also a Programme Files folder with a sub folder holding file folders called CD Configuration,iTunes Resources, iTunes Help Resources, iTunes Mini Player Resources and Mozilla Plugins all dated 24/03/14 ( when I downloaded the new iTunes) and then a lot of application extension stuff from 2011
To recap I unistalled the old 32 bit iTunes and installed the new 11.1.5 (64 bit) version over the weekend  SO is any of the old stuff listed above required.
Outcome right now is that as previously I can only call up the Downloaded music not Podcats or CD copies.

  • How do I move a file to the tones folder?

I'm trying to create a ringtone.  The file extention is .m4r.  The file will not go in the tones folder.  I try to move it and I just get that symbol that's a red circle with a diagonal line through it.  I am using iTunes 10.5.2 and Windows 7 pro 64 bit.

You can't drag & drop files between the source sections, Music, Movies, Tones etc.
The file should be in AAC format (normally .m4a) with an .m4r, be less than 30 seconds long, and ideally 128k stereo. Drop a copy into Automatically add to iTunes and it should end up in the right place.

  • AE not adding files to Media Encoder

    Hello,
My After Effects CC is not adding files to the Media Encoder. I can render using the add to render queue option, but when I try to Add to Media Encoder, it will open Media Encoder but it doesn't add the file the the queue list.
I've updated AE and Media encoder and that didn't fix it. Running on Mac Yosemite 10.10.2  Does anyone have any suggestion?
    Thanks for your help

See the known issue here about Adobe Media Encoder taking a very long time to open the first time on Mac OSX v10.10 (Yosemite):
After Effects with Mac OSX v10.10 (Yosemite)
Based on this, my suggestion is to open Adobe Media Encoder once, give it plenty of time to start because of this Mac OS bug, and then try again. My guess is that it'll work fine after that.

  • Handling Music/Sound Tracks

I have 2 questions regarding the handling of music/sound tracks:
    1) I understand that iMovie automatically creates a 1 second cross-fade between consecutive music tracks. Is there a way to extend this (possibly to 3 or 4 seconds)?
    2) Is there a way to "layer" tracks in iMovie? For example, I'd like to lay down a piece of music and then add a sound effect over top of it, so that both would be audible at the same time?
    Thanks!

You can certainly do longer fades. Set the Fade to manual and move the slider to (up to) 2 seconds.
It is also quite easy to do a longer cross fade. You just overlap the tracks. To see how, see the video below.

Yes, this is very easy to do. Just drag and drop. [This video tutorial might be the best way to explain.|http://www.apple.com/findouthow/movies/imovie08.html#audioclips]

  • Inadvertantly added music files to the wrong library

I created a 2nd library in itunes and then inadvertantly added music files to it instead of to the original library. My original intent was to move files from the 1st library to the 2nd but I forgot we had added music that hadn't been scanned into itunes yet and when I hit "scan music" it started to add all those files to the new library, so now what?
And how do I move the files I originally intended to move from the 1st library into the 2nd?

    Karen,
There is not really such a thing as "move" in that context.  Get copies of any files that you wish to add to the 2nd library, and add them.  When you are sure that this has been correctly accomplished, then go into the 1st library and delete whatever you don't want to be there.
