Adding Flash ticker tape display of still photos

This questions is really directed to "Old Toad" - I find your sample iWeb site extremely useful however I have a question. On your example of a flash ticker tape display you mention that the HTML was obtained from OVI.COM - I cannot find anything even remotely related on this site - HELP??

Pat:
First you need to create an account on OVI.com, upload the photos you want to a "channel". That's somewhat equivalent to an album in iPhoto. In that channel you click on share this channel and there will be code available for a ticker tap, a slideshow, etc. You copy that code and put it into an HTML Snippet on a page. Viewers who click on the ticker tape would normally be taken to your channel at the OVI.com site. To prevent that put a transparent shape over the ticker tape item.

  • Display of Still Photos in Video

Does anyone know how to alter a jpeg to display properly in a video? Everything looks great in preview, but when I import the picture to FCE it is full of jagged lines were stripes or other defining lines should be. I've tried to de-interlace but it only makes it worse.

Still images are computer generated , thus meaning they are created for print or displaying on a computer monitor. in short the pixels are not of the same shape. in DV video the pixels are rectangle and, your stills are square. a simple quick fix would be to open the stills with your photo editor and, give them just a little gaussian blur. you may also consider resizing the hight of your still. in your photo editor select resize > percent and, change the hight to 90%. be sure constrain is unchecked.
The still will look a little squashed but, will look correct when imported into FCE

  • Flash Can't Display JPEG2000 Images?

I am building a Flash interface to display high quality
photos on a CD that will be included in a book. However, the author
has decided to use JPEG2000 images and they will not load using my
image loader. JPG will work just fine, but Flash does not seem to
recognize the JPEG2000 format. Is there a workaround for this, or
do I tell him to resave as JPG?

i don't think there's a way to display that format in

Most likely you have Office 2004 which are PPC-only applications and will not work in Lion. Upgrade to Office 2011. Other alternatives are:
Apple's iWork suite (Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.)
Open Office (Office 2007-like suite compatible with OS X.)
    NeoOffice (similar to Open Office.)
LibreOffice (a new direction for the Open Office suite.)

  • Want to display a still image if user cannot see Flash

I am looking at all the various Flash detectors and am a bit overwhelmed. Most of the info I find is from 2008 and before so I am afraid it is outdated.
I want to be able to detect if a user has flash plugin and if not then display a still image. I am concerned that I-phone users are not seeing the flash embed in my site.
What is the currently recommended solution?

Nevermind the above question.... I found my answer at a different source.

  • In a video (Premiere elements 12) how can I control the time a still photo is displayed?  I would like a shorter time than 5 seconds, maybe 2 or 3 seconds.

In a premiere Elements 12 video, how can I have a 3 second display of a still photo?

    toothdoc1
What computer operating system are you running your Premiere Elements 12 on? Are you working with a NTSC or PAL setup?
    Assuming NTSC setup...
You can set a Still Image Default duration so that all the stills that are imported after that set import with the same duration (the default is 150 frames equivalent to 5 seconds in a 30 frames per second system) See Expert workspace, Edit Menu/Preferences/Still Image Default duration.
Once you get your stills on the Timeline (at the preferences set), if you want to, you can change the Still Image duration for one or more of the stills on the Timeline. To do that for one, right click the Timeline still, select Time Stretch, and , then in the Time Stretch dialog set the duration that you want. There the format is 00;00;00;00 (hours;minutes;seconds;frames). So, a 3 second duration set would look like 00;00;03;00.
If you wanted to do the Timeline still duration change on more than one at a time basis, then adjust the first, followed by a copy and paste effects and adjustments in the selected rest.
Please let us know if you are Ok with the details or you need an clarification on anything written.
    Thanks.

  • How to set still photo display length

How can I change the length that a still photos is displayed so I don't have to manually do this for each photo?
    Thanks
    Nik

    Nik,
This is done in Edit>Preferences>General. IIRC, the still Duration is in Frames, not seconds, so take note of that. Do this, prior to Import. It will also set the Duration for Titles, but they are easy to adjust for Duration.

  • Adding music to still photos in iMovie, wont syncronize with rhythm markers.

I´m trying to simply add music to a series of still photos, and I want the photos to change according to the rhythm of the song (I´ve set rhythm markers). This just wont happen, allthough I´ve followed every instruction in the "Help"-menu. I´ve tried both locking the project to rhythm and unlocking it. Some of the photos change with the rhythm in the music, others just skip and are automatically set to last 0.1 seconds (why??)  Can anybody tip me on what might be the problem? Is there a bug in here? I usually get these kind of things, but this really bothers me - can´t seem to figure it out.

    Hi Matt.
Yes, I´ve tried this. It´s the same result - some of the pictures change with the beat markers, others just skip. For some reason suddenly two pictures lie between two beat markers (instead of one picture pr marker), though I never wanted this. Also; do I have to seperately make a project with only pictures and make sure this is exactly the order I want them to appear in, and then copy/paste them into a project with the music track and beat markers? It seems like everytime I try to change the order/delete pictures the beat markers (the few ones which are in the right place...) move and get out of sync, allthough I believed the "lock to beat/rhythm"-function would prevent this?

  • Adding still photo to video

I have a short video that I want to add a few still photos into, but I don't want to disrupt the flow of sound. What I mean is, the sound needs to keep lined up with the video even when the still is playing. I tried to crop the portion of video I wanted to eliminate and checking it's size and making the still the same size. Deleting the video and placing the still in it's place. I don't think this will work because the still can't be made the same size as the eliminated video. I hope I'm saying this correctly.

There is a function called Paste Over at Playhead, accessed from the Advanced menu, that is designed to handle this sort of thing.
So, if you want to insert a still into a video, and have the audio continue to play while the still is playing, you would first check the box in your iMovie general preferences to Extract Audio When Using "Paste Over at Playhead". Then you place your still in the timeline, Control-copy it, place your playhead in the spot in the video where you want to insert the still, and then select Paste Over at Playhead from the Advanced menu. The still will be inserted and the audio will continue to play while the still is being played.
If you do not want the audio to play while the still is playing, follow the same procedure as above, except first go to your iMovie general preferences and uncheck the box that says Extract Audio When Using "Past Over at Playhead".
Play around with it a little until you get what you want.

    Thanks as always…
I am trying to use Flash text for some headings, but after an

I added the font I want to use to my font list but it still

Is your text in a dynamic text box, or static text box in
    flash?
I don't think the issue concerns the "true-type" or not
    "true-type" font.
In Flash, when text is part of a dynamic text box (which I
assume is the case in your situation),
then the font works just like in an html page:
if the font is installed on the computer it will show, if
not, it won't. The way around this, is to
embed the font data in the authoring flash file, and link it
to the dynamic text box, via actionScript.
So if you cannot work on the authoring Flash file with Flash
MX or Flash8, and if indeed we're
talking about a dynamic text box, your only option is to use
    a web-safe font.

  • Flicker on modified speed clips and still photos

This particular clip has a railing of a building so there are lots of straight lines. It has a very slight flicker when at 100%, but when I change it to 75 it really flickers. The flicker filter doesn't help. I tried adding a blur as one post said to do but that didn't seem to fix it either.
Also - I have had a persistent problem with flicker on motion keyfraned still photos, esp. if the image has straight edges or thin lines. Has anyone been able to fix this issue?
    Thx
    Message was edited by: Editgrrl2

The flickering is an artifact of the interlaced nature of video. It is a result of very thin (often horizontal) elements that exist on one scanline as is common in text or titling. This can also be the case in scanned images with great deal of detail with high contrast.
As the alternate fields play, the flashing element is essentially being turned on/off. The basic strategy is to get the element to exist over two scanlines so it is refreshed every time the field plays or to reduce the amount of contrast so the difference between ON and OFF is not noticeable.
Things to try (In increasing order of image degradation)
    • (in FCP) field order>none
    • (in FCP or Photoshop) reduce whites by 10% - reduces overly bright areas
    • (in FCP) flicker filter - minimum
    • (in Photoshop) motion blur>vertical> .2 - .5 pixels - blurs vertically only
    • (In FCP or Photoshop) Gaussian blur> .2 - .5 pixels -blurs both horizontally as well as vertically
    • (in FCP or Photoshop) deinterlace - throws away half the image and is generally not appropriate on scanned images
If you have slowed your material significantly, and have not used some sort of frame blending/optical flow processing, you may be simply duplicating frames to create the additional material to pad the playback. The flashing you see is the result of this.
Remember: Unless you are viewing your work in the appropriate external NTSC/PAL monitor, you are playing blind. The computer monitor only shows you a proxy image.
    good luck.

  • How do you drop a still photo into a video?

how do you drop a still photo into a video -- while continuing the audio track unchanded?

by popular demand, Kelli Applies Lip Liner to Audrey's Lips has been completely re-mastered. (ok, it was just one person who asked, but she's a very intelligent and articulate observer of such matters.  she noted that the clip suggests "interesting possibilities", but that men probably would be unaware of that.  i explained that "men are pretty simple, so we don't see too many moves ahead."  she laughed.)
i believe that in an earlier post i indicated that in the re-mastered version i would delete the in-camera audio and dub in the audio from the Zoom H4n audio recorder.  this i did.
(syncing the video and audio continues to be a nightmare, though ).
besides signifcantly improving the sound quality, using a separately recorded audio source allowed me to drop (2) still photos into the video track, and still preserve the continuity of the recorded conversation.
dropping in the stills the correct way (unlike in the first re-mastered video) was easier than i thought it would be.  it's just a matter of dragging the Premiere Elements 7's red vertical timeline-cursor to the point on the timeline where you want the insert to begin, and then dragging and dropping the still photo alongside the red cursor.  the amount of time the still will appear can be shortened or lengthened by dragging with the mouse -- the same way any other file can be extended or contracted.
the video coming out from the still was now running behind the soundtrack.  but, the timeline shows the exact duration of the still, so the video coming out was shortened with the mouse by that same duration, and then the audio and video were back in sync.
to add the "sound effect" of the camera's shutter clicking (actually its mirror slapping) before each still appears, i found a point on the audio recording that had the click of my camera actually taking a still, and that had only a little audio from the models underneath it.  removing all the audio before and after the sound of the camera click was, again, just a matter of finding the start/stop points i wanted, moving the timeline's red cursor to those points, and using the mouse to drag the ends of the audio file alongside the cursor.
because i wanted the sound of the camera click to merge with the converation anyway, i just put the audio file of the click on its own audio track (which allowed me to separately control its volume).
however, when i tried to copy and paste the audio file of the camera click to the beginning of the second still photo, i was not able to copy and paste by the normal method of using the mouse to right-click-file/left-click-"copy"/left-click-"paste".  eventually, i tried doing so by clicking on "edit" on the menu bar at the upper left and then clicking on "copy" and "paste", and there was no problem.  (go figure.)
as with the other re-mastered video, i brightened, increased contrast, made the hue a bit warmer, and added a little sharpening.  (this has to be done individually for each separate video file that makes up the whole piece -- at least that's what i did.)
interestingly, the audio level can be tweaked directly on the timeline by using the mouse to drag up or down a horizontal yellow line running the length of the audio file.
i again rendered in Adobe Flash Video (.flv).  (annoyingly, in XP at least, there's a default download destination that has to be reset everytime you want to save in a different location).  from a drop-down menu i selected "NTSC Flash Video 700k" (just in case) and left the file name as "Untitled" (since no matter what i change it to, it saves as "untitled.flv", so i have to rename it anyway once it's saved).
i went into "Advanced..." and, to preserve the dimensions and the HD, i unchecked "Resize Video", chose "Same as source" for the frame rate, and checked 2 "Encoding Passes" (just in case).
for some reason, everytime i click the "save" button, it asks what i want to call these settings.  if i use the name i used for the same settings on the previous go-round, it says that that name is already used and (impliedly) can't be used again.  so, i add the new date, and yet another name for the same settings gets added to the drop-down menu (odd).
once the compressed .flv file was saved, it was an easy upload to youtube.
btw, it seems that the Elements 7's Audio Mix defaults to 0 dB, OR whatever the setting was in the prior saved version, unless i use the mouse to continuously "ride the slider pot".  that's ok for a 48-second video, but does anyone know of a way the dB can be set so that it just sits there, instead of moving back to where it previously was

  • I used the ticker tape mode to add subtitles to a clip. When playing it in the pc, the Subtitles are fine, however, when playing it on the tv, only the top half of the words are visible. Any idea why?

I added subtitles to a movie clip using the ticker tape option. When viewing on the iMac, the words are visible, however, when playing it in the tv, only the top half of the words are visible. Does anyone know why?

I would agree with Keith Barkley, it may be the TV Safe Area. You can see what spots might be blocked out or cut off by going to iDVD and opening the original DVD project, under the View Menu > Show TV Safe Area. If your title gets cut off by the cropping rectangle displayed, that may account for the cut-off.

  • Blurry Still Photos in PE 9 (Windows XP –SP3)

When I take sharp still photos, at any resolution and in any format (tif, jpg, psd), they look sharp on a standard def. TV from a burned DVD with a Project Setting of NTSC-DV – Standard (4:3) ONLY.  Using NTSC-DV – Wide Screen or NTSC – Hard Disk, Flash Memory Camcorder Standard or Wide-Screen, the stills are slightly, but definitely, blurry.  Not a problem if I just want a DVD of stills, but a problem combining video (my camcorder is memory card, std. def., wide-screen) with stills.  The video looks nice and sharp.  Any suggestions? Thank you

Hi all.  I want to thank each of you for taking the time to continue to help me.  I really appreciate your efforts.
To minimize duplicate responses, I am pointing each of you to this response.  I hope I address all of your comments.
First, I am viewing the photos on a 2 NTSC TV’s.  One is a traditional CRT picture tube, the other is a rear projection from individual color CRT’s.  I will be checking them out on a state-of-the-art LED-LCD in a few days.  Simply, when I set the Project Setting to NTSC-DV Standard Definition 4:3 (meaning full screen 640x480) the stills look quite good.
The problem occurs when I use the Project Settings listed as NTSC-Hard Drive Camcorder, etc. (meaning mpg coming into PE9 like via a card based camcorder (mine is std def)) Wide-Screen 16:9 with input set by PE9 as 720x480. The still photos are recomposed with black bands on each side (either by me manually in PS9 or by PE9 automatically – no difference in image projection).  I want to use this setting since I want to combine widescreen video with 3:2 still images in the same project.  These are distinctly blurry, but not horrendously so. (I know, not a very scientific/objective description)
And, while I agree with comments made regarding down-rezing, my actual tests showed the best results from a large 3000+ x 2000+ pixel tif file than from any other size and format (I have tried many combinations).  In fact, 480 pixel (height) jpg looked to me just slightly better than 480 (height) psd, which made no sense given that psd is supposed to be lossless and jpg is lossy (although I used the least compression available).
Re. interlacing, I did freeze frame and there was a slightly better image displayed, but not as good as the full screen not frozen.  I have not yet tried what I would normally consider excessive sharpening to compensate for the still image problem.  However, this is still troubling given that full screen looked good.
I am gong to continue to test as time permits, but I wonder if there are 2 compounding problems.  First, NTSC TV has 1440 lines of scan, exactly, 3 times 480 pixels, whereas, based on my calculations, 16:9 widescreen letterbox does not yield the number of scan lines an integral multiple of 480.  Second, PE9 lists widescreen as 720x480, yet if I take a pixel height of 480, 16:9 should yield a width of 853.  While I understand CRT TV’s cut off part of the picture, that oversized width from 720 seems a bit high.  (I also know that some number of scan lines are not used in the image, but don’t remember whether these are within the 1440 or in addition to.)
Ted, you mentioned that the stills should be multiples of 640x480 up to 1920x1440.  Why not 1920x1080 which gives the 16:9 widescreen format?  I have not tried these numbers yet, but will when I get back home.
One last complication is that a project setting of NTSC-Hard Drive, full screen 4:3, was also blurry.  I would be willing to believe there is a problem with PE9’s resizing calculations or an issue with using the “right” pixel resolution for widescreen if all full screen settings looked good and only wide screen looked poor.
I know that’s a lot to digest, but better more info than less.  And, again, thank you very much for your help.
