Adding folder to library doesn't add all songs

Long story short, lots of songs disappeared from my library. I think I figured out how to get them back, but it isn't quite working. Dragging the entire Music folder to the library causes iTunes to freeze. Importing each individual CD folder only copies some of the songs -and sometimes none of the songs at all. What's going on, and how can I fix it?

FIrst scan the system for viruses with your antivirus program and scan for malware using Ewido or your prefered spyware?adware scanner http://www.ewido.net/en/
Also try disabling your antivirus program, it my be blocking iTunes from a "Mass scan" or "Mass Writing" if these folders contain alot of songs or afew big songs. It is well known here iTunes doesn't want to get every song when you use the add folder feature in windows for some reason.

  • Itunes doesn't add all the songs from my library

    Hi,
Had to reinstall Itunes and now the program doesn't add all the songs from my library (roughly 4,000 songs). All that is added is maybe 20 songs, and always the same ones. It has worked perfectly before.
I have tried to "pull" all the artist folders into the Itunes window, but it doesn't work. I have tried to set another folder as the Itunes library and then choose "add new folder", but only those 20 songs are added. I have made sure so that none of the files are copy protected or "read-only".
    Please, help!
    Best regards,
    Jonas

Ok, I deleted the two files and upon startup iTunes did run that search wizard for music files. However, it only found 4 songs that are located on local harddisks, and did not (as far as I could see on the network status) even try to search on the network harddisk.
One more thing though, that I forgot to mention before. I tried to solve this situation by installing an earlier version of iTunes... 4.6 i think, but when I tried to run the program it told me something like "Cannot read the file iTunes library.itl since it was created by a later version of iTunes". Where can i find that file, and should i remove it and try to add the songs with iTunes 4.6 instead?
(Thanks so much for all your help!)

I'm trying to organize my movies with folders.  When I click "new folder", it either doesn't add any folder or adds a new folder as a "subfolder" of an existing folder.  Help!

Thank you for the suggestion - I tried it but still didn't work.  When I click "New Folder" it gives me the pop-up to name the new folder, but doesn't put a new folder anywhere in my Project Library.

  • Home Sharing Library doesn't include all music that's in main Music Library

Sorry if this has been answered previously. I haven't been able to fashion a search to find the answer.
I turned on Home Sharing in the Remote app on my iPhone 4. It readily found my Home Sharing Library from my iMac (that contains 1306 items). After entering in my Apple ID and password, I tried to search for a recently purchased song using the Remote app and it didn't find it. I went to the iMac and immediately found the song in the Library and in the Purchased playlist. I also noticed that the Library on the iMac contains 2781 items.
Question #1: Why wouldn't the Home Sharing Library on my iMac not contain the same songs that are in the Library on the same iMac?
To solve the problem, I just synced the iMac to the Remote app (not through Home Sharing) and was able to see my entire library.
Problem/Question #2: Since my Home Sharing library doesn't show all the music, when my wife's MacBook Home Shares, she too does not see all the music available for streaming. They are all on the same wi-fi network. The reason I use Home Sharing vs. Sharing of the library is that I automatically transfer iPhone apps across the network as she syncs her iPhone to her computer (she wants no music).
Hoping someone can help me troubleshoot.
    Thanks.
    Martin

i'm guessing you used more than one iTunes store account to purchase content.
if that's the case, try authorizing your Mac to play/use the content purchased from the other iTS account(s).
that's basically very easy. all you have to do is +log out+ of one account (click on the account name in the Store window and select +sign out+ from the pop-up dialog) and into the other, and then they will both be authorized. when done, sign back into your usual account. you'll have to do that one time only.

With using any version of iTunes, whenever I import songs into my library using the "add to library" function, iTunes adds those songs in songs' alphabetical order. This is pretty annoying since it does not preserve the logical track number or even the album sort order (for example when adding 2 albums stored in a unique folder). Anyone has any ideas ? Been stumped for a while....!!!

hi i had the same problem today when i updated my itunes to latest version. however, i have just found my songs in the 'itunes media' folder. this was accessed through 'my music'  then keep clicking through until you find itunes media and all my library songs were in there and i then just added these files to my library and all were restored however, i have lost all my playlists but at least my 700 songs are back. very dissapointed with apple that they have let this happen with their latest update, the previous version was miles better than this one . hope you find them. stevo

  • Can I disable "add all songs" on my iPhone?

Since I'm rarely near my computer with iTunes on it, 90% of my Playlist editing ( I almost exclusively use playlists to decide what to listen to ) directly on my iPhone. The problem I have is the annoying "add all songs" button that is precariously placed at the top of the edit screen where it's hard not to press it. I keep pressing it by accident. I cannot find a way to undo/cancel it except to delete the play list  and start over.
Is there a way to disabled the "add all songs" button? Or at least an "undo" feature to put the playlist back the state it was in before I accidentally pressed it?
IMHO, its counter-intuitive to have the button in the first place. If I wanted to listen to all of the songs on my iPhone, I'd just go to "music" and press "play" . lol

    Hi!
In iOS 7 on the iPhone or ipad:
One way to do it is by adding a restriction on adult content.  Click settings, restrictions (make a password), them scroll down to "websites" under allowed content (below the list of things to allow or not allow), then select "limit adult content."  Poof... No more private browsing option in safari.

  • Iphone create playlist add all songs

Since upgrading to iOS7.0.4 on my iPhone 4 I have to say I have been very frustrated and unhappy. Not only does my album art not match my songs after various syncs and deletes and resyncs, voice control keeps coming on to interrupt my music draining my battery. Now I am trying to create a new playlist and the functionality to add all songs in a search is gone meaning I have to click on every single song to add it rather than being able to add by artist or album all in one go. This is most annoying. My contract with Telus is almost up and I'm getting more and more tempted to go to a Samsung Galaxy as I find the bugs in the new iTunes iOS 7.0.4 are becoming a real pain.

The reason I need the On-The-Go playlist, is because I had my iPod on auto-sync, and checked the songs I wanted added to the iPod. But in my iTunes, I accidentally checked EVERYTHING. So now if I want to re-sync my iPod to include new songs I've added, I'll have to go BACK through and recheck those few thousand songs I had on my iPod, which will take me forever.
SO, if I can just create the On-The-Go playlist, it will transfer that to my iTunes, in which case I can just sync the playlist.
Yeah, I've even tried adding songs from other playlists. If it's a small playlist it works. I made a playlist with every song on my iPod. That didn't work. Is there a max for how big the On-The-Go playlist can be?

  • Backing out of "Add All songs" to playlist

I accidentally hit the "Add All songs" when editing a playlist- the next button is "Done" - but I don't want to add 3000 songs - how can I back out of this choice?

I am having the same problem, "Error formatting disk iPod. Disk cannot be written to or copied from."
The guy at the apple store said the iPod is totally fine, that it's my computer. Getting nowhere with my laptop manufacturer - he tells me to do to the apple store.
I was told the best bet is to make sure my music files are backed up on my hard drive, then uninstall and then reinstall iTunes.

Why did they take out the add all songs option with IOS7

I can not read the minds of the Adobe engineers or Marketing people. Nesting a sequence is not much more trouble than applying an effect.
If you are creating a PIP, then a nested sequence is probably your solution. If you are not nesting, scale and crop, then put a white matte under it.
This is not a great place for asking questions that have no answers outside of internal Adobe decisions. This is, however, a great place to get workarounds.

  • When I add a folder to my library it doesn't add the song information

I had to do a factory reset on my Laptop. I had all my music backed up and when I added it to iTunes it was mostly fine but for some reason a handful of albums import into iTunes with little or no track information as show in the picture. The file itself has all the track information yet it doesn't in iTunes. Doing a mass select does allow me to fill in the album name and genre but to remove the number I have to go through every song individually and for 1 or 2 albums this would fine but it's 10-15 which takes a while as does ordering the album (1 of x, 2 of x etc.). Does anyone know what's causing this problem and how to fix it?
Also for some reason the last track on the album in the picture actually gets imported with the full information.

If you only add one playlist, the ipod simply plays it alphabetically on "All Music" mode. If you have the iPod shuffle 4th generation, you can press the button on the top and hold it until it says "All Songs". Then just wait until it says the name of your playlist or "Playlist 1" and press the play/pause button. Hope this helps!

  • ITunes doesn't adds all files from folder?

    Dear Apple,
    I'm having *itunes 8.1.1*,and i do like this;
file -> add folder to library (or something, it's in dutch).
And he only adds 397 files of 1030 in that folder.
    How come? *Please help me!*
    Tom.

Well if they will not add one at a time, then adding a folder full of them will not work either. So...
Are you sure they are MP3 files? If so, see if they play in another player, such as Windows Media Player. If they play in WMP but not in iTunes, then the problem may be minor corruption in the MP3 headers, which can be cleaned up in a tool such as MP3 Valdator, as Garth mentioned.
If they will not play in either iTunes or WMP, then you can suspect that they are not valid song files.

  • Error when adding folder to library - Not adding files to ITunes library

Hey all, I just got my iPod for Christmas and I've been having a lot of problems with iTunes. Sometimes when I'd add a folder it'd add all the files 3 or 4 times, and now I'm having an even bigger problem. I was trying to get all my music in one place to finally have some organization on my comp, so I set it to copy files I added, then I figured I'd delete the old folder. I have a folder that, when I try to add it, it gives me the error "Attempting to copy to the disk "C:\" failed. The file name was invalid or too long."
It continues to go through the folder (Another few hundred songs, or almost 600 depending on if I did the top level folder) and it LOOKS like they're being added to iTunes, but they never get added to the library. If I try to update my iPod after this, the program takes all the music off my iPod. If I close and reopen, then it will update music, but NO files are added to the library. I can see that the files are being copied, and, as such, I'm not running out of disk space. These files are in there two or three times in some cases.
So, I have two questions. Does anyone know what causes this error, and does anyone know an efficient way I can delete all the "non-detected" files?

You'll probably have better luck asking the question here -> Windows EightForums
iTunes isn't designed to work with Windows 8 or any beta software, so theres no suprise that it isn't working as expected.

  • Adding folder to library...

    Hello all,
I've had a new computer built that has Vista on it... and before I did, I was proud of myself for backing up all my files, including my music, on an external drive.
However, when I try to "File>Add folder to library" and choose the folder "iTunes" in "My Music", I get the following error:
"A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
Of course, Windows won't provide ANY solutions. :-/
Would anybody happen to know what I'm doing wrong? Or is there another way to get the music I backed up to my external drive INTO iTunes on my new computer?
I've even tried making an iTunes folder in the new computer's My Music folder and placing all my music from my external drive to the new iTunes folder...and iTunes won't spot it.
Please help! Thank you very much!
    Ted

Camoracer, thanks very much for answering.
    Okay, what I tried:
I copied all the folders from my iTunes in my external drive to "My Music" folder (located in the folder with my name on it).
I then went to iTunes application and tried File>Add folder to library... and NOTHING was there. None of the folders I had just recently copied.
I'm really confused what I'm doing wrong in a program that is supposedly very easy to use.

  • New 6th generation ipod - loaded my library onto the iPod  all songs are greyed out and I cannot add a playlist.

I have purchased a new 6th generation ipod and registered it with Apple- it has loaded all my library onto the iPod but when the library is displayed all songs are greyed out and I cannot add a playlist. Can anyone help me ?

The content that you are viewing on your Nano via iTunes is grayed out since your iPod is set up for automatic syncing with your iTunes library.  If you want to be able to manually manage your contents (which is sounds like you are trying to do), you must enable the Manually manage music option from under your iPod's Summary tab in iTunes.
