Adding Font to Font Book

I am unable to get Apples Font Book to add new fonts (through normal processes).
Any sudggestions?
Bud

Okay, the font I'm trying to add is Postnet.
Can you tell us where you got it exactly or what kind it is (ttf, type I)?
I can
find it in all the Apple libraries but not in the
Font Book.
By this do you mean to say it is sitting in Home/Library/Fonts?
I need it to work with my labeling
application.
What app is this exactly? Normally you don't need to worry about Fontbook as such, but whether the font will appear in the Font panel or other place where a font is selected in a particular app.

  • Only 10 fonts in Font Book, though all seem to be working

Only 10 fonts appear in Leopard Font Book, though the standard font palette in Pages etc indicates that all my hundreds of fonts are working. I've tried "adding" my User Fonts folder to no avail, and deep cleaning all caches with Leopard Cache Cleaner didn't help either.
Am I alone, and if not, is there a fix for this?

Answering this and the next posting in one:
The fonts listed in the User list are:
    Abadi MT Condensed Extra Bold
    Abadi MT Condensed Light
    Adobe Garamond
    Adobe Jenson
    Adobe Wood Type
    AkzidenzGrotesk
    Andale Mono
    Frutiger
    ITC Anna
    ITC Fenice
These are the same 10 that I mentioned in my original posting.
Of these, only Fenice is marked as a duplicate, but the Resolve Duplicates command does nothing. None of the listed fonts can be disabled using the checkbox or menu command.
If further User fonts are manually loaded, many (in fact most) of them are marked as duplicates, but the same comments apply (i.e. neither Resolve Duplicates nor Disable does anything).
After a number (a dozen or so) fonts are manually added, Font Book will start to crash with each addition.
My Leopard installation was Customized to avoid installing the additional Asian fonts. Subsequently, I reinstalled (using Pacifist), the /System/Library/Fonts and /Library/Fonts folders. I then placed my other fonts into /Users/Home/Library/Fonts manually, but although they function correctly in applications, Font Book does not see them and will not load them, either all at once or a few at a time. The fonts have a variety of origins including Adobe, Microsoft and others, but all of them have previously been verified OK by both Font Book (Tiger edition) and Font Doctor.

  • My fonts in font book wont show in Photoshop

I have added some new fonts to Font Book, however when I go to use them in Photoshop CS5 they are not there. I tried putting them into the Computer collection in Font Book rather than User to see if that helped, but I cant figure out how to move them, it wont let me drag and drop them in.
    Help please anyone??
    Thanks!

Very typical symptom of a damaged Font Book database.
Restart your Mac and immediately hold down the Shift key when you hear the startup chime to boot into Safe Mode. Keep holding the Shift key until you see a progress bar towards the bottom of the screen. You can let go of the Shift key at that point.
OS X asks you to log in (you will get this screen on a Safe Mode boot even if your Mac is set to automatically log in). Let the Mac finish booting to the desktop and then restart normally. This will clear Font Book's database and the cache files of the user account you logged into in Safe Mode.

  • How do I use the Japanese fonts in Font Book in a Pages document?

How does one use the Japanese fonts in Font Book in a Pages document. Pages has its own fonts but I cannot get the Japanese fonts into it.

To type japanese on a computer you change the keyboard, not the font.  Go to system prefs/keyboard/input sources and add Japanese/Kotoeri to the list, then select Hiragana in the "flag" menu at the top right of the screen, then type.  The font will take care of itself.

What are the names of those fonts?  Have you downloaded and installed the special Zawgyi font?
What is it exactly that you cannot read?  Can you provide the url?

  • How to add a new font to font Book

I need to import a new font into font book for use. The font I have downloaded appears as a blank file (I don't know if I am explaining this correcly). When I try to locate this file thorugh the finder in appears greyed out and I can't select it. I have right clicked on it and specified that it be opened with font book; however, I cannot ever view it within font book. Perhaps it is not a valid file foramt for mac. Here's is a screenshot as the file appears on my desktop:

Please help me get this resolved. How can I be able to use this font?

mahongue, sorry to interrupt here ...
Last September you posted a problem you were having with your connection speed. I'm having a similar issue, and wondered if/how you managed to fix the problem.

  • Missing fonts in font book

Not sure what has happened after I restarted my iMac - I have lost the majority of the fonts in Font Book.
Is there a way of finding or reloading them?

Are you sure that in the Collection column at the left you have All Fonts selected?

  • InDesign CS5.5 doesn't show the fonts in Font Book

I recently upgraded to CS5.5 Premium at the same time as I upgraded to OS X Snow Leopard (10.6.8).
While I am asking this question about InDesign, all programs in the package (Illustrator, etc.) seem to have the same problem:
They don't recognise the fonts I have already installed in Font Book – TT, OT, or whatever type.
Has anyone else come across this issue?
In InDesign the only way round it seems to be to add the fonts I need to InDesign's fonts folder. But that doesn't change anything for Illustrator.
    I hope someone can help.

You don't really install fonts IN Font Book. You just use Font Book to place new fonts in one of two locations on your Mac. If you look at Collections in the upper left corner of the Font Book screen you should see one called User and one called Computer. These are really just references to:
    Users > [yourname] > Library > Fonts
    and
    [computername] > Library > Fonts
Look in those two folders and see if the fonts are there.
All applications on your computer should show those fonts in their font menus. Do the fonts show up in other applications like TextEdit or Word?
BTW, there is the possibility you could have had problems with your 10.6.8 install. You might try running the 10.6.8 Update Combo as described in this article:

  • Can't add any fonts to font book

I can in no way known to me add any font to font book. (Known ways: from the menu, from the + button, double clicking the font file which then gets displayed in a font book window with an activate button—pressing that button.) Neither of these adds a font (legally owned, operational and running on a second mac flawlessly). I shifted my fonts folder, of course no change. I never experienced this. Any idea?

Font book does not add fonts regardless of restarting with shift held down - safe start.
That is correct. While in Safe Mode, you cannot add any fonts. The OS only allows certain necessary fonts to load.
If you mean you've done a Safe Mode boot and still cannot add fonts after restarting normally, then there are multiple possible problems:
    1) The fonts are so badly damaged, they can't be used.
    2) They are Type 1 PostScript fonts which are missing the suitcase of screen fonts. Printer outline fonts cannot be used alone.
    3) The OS needs to be reinstalled.

  • Changing fonts in iphoto book very buggy

When I tried to change either the font or font size on the cover and it OK, all fonts throughout the book changed. When clicking on return to default all fonts changed again, but not to the original default font........help.

I found some strange behaviour when changing fonts in a calendar I was producing. I found that clicking on the +Page Design+ button, which reapplies the default design for a particular page, fixed the problem for me. Annoying, though!

  • Display is adding pixels to fonts and jumping around

My 3.5 year old 2005 Powerbook 167 is now adding pixels to fonts randomly..
It adds them both vertically and horizontally. It does it near the mouse sometimes.. sometimes the whole screen shifts by a few pixels.
It does it also to the secondary monitor..
It seems to be stable but is very annoying..
Is the video card going bad? Do I need to replace the motherboard in order to fix this?
    Anyone else have this problem?

I ran tried to reboot and run the hardware but it crashed when I tried to boot from that CD.
I ran techtook and it found nothing wrong.
It does it all the time. Not too bad.. just a few pixels moving around..
When running any flash the cpu is just pegged.. I might have fried it running an app..

  • Missing font in Font Book

I have a font Berthold Akzidenz Grotesque BT listed at the end of Font Book but it does not appear in any font menu for any of the programs I use. In FB it is listed as "installed". I suspect it may have been part of Adobe CS6 as it is not a font I purchased. Is there a reason for this? How can I activate it please?

    Er ... ok, but...
    1. Open TextEdit. Type some text. Choose Format -> Font -> Show Fonts.
    2. Now look for font "Herculanum" (it's a "dfont" font). Try to use it.
    3. On my MBP, this works fine, and I see a nice "greek-ish" font.
    4. On the MacBook, the font is not displayed; it defaults to something else (Courier, by the look of it).
The lack of appearance in Font Book is secondary. The real issue is that these fonts do not work. And in fact they do appear in Font Book on my MBP.
As I said, the appearance or lack thereof in Font Book might be related to lack of admin rights on the MacBook (I can understand that). But I don't see why they would not work inside TextEdit or any other Mac apps.

  • 2 fonts in Font Book do NOT  appear in AW WP list

2 fonts in Font Book do NOT  appear in AW WP list ( I have used them previously on an eMac and iMac)

    Welcome to the forums!
Do you mean you don't know how to see any fonts at all? If that is the case, use the Font icon in the toolbar, or go to the Format menu, and in the Fonts submenu choose "Show Fonts" (or use the keyboard shortcut Command-T). Any of these methods will bring up the Font Panel.
If you mean that fonts do not show up in the Font Panel, be sure that the fonts themselves are turned on in Font Book.

  • FontBook corrupted ? adding back Fonts (Removed), Fonts Disabled

    Hi everyone,
similar to many other people i got some of my fonts screw up after MS Office installation.
I tried to restore default fonts in FontBook, but it claimed that some fonts are missing.
There are no fonts in my ~/Library folders: Fonts, Fonts (Removed), Fonts Disabled.
However, there some in /Library: Fonts (Removed), Fonts Disabled which I would like to bring back.
So the question is - how to do it?
In /Library/Fonts Disabled   i see Arial, Timew New Roman, Verdana, Wingdings. I guess all of them were disabled by MS installation
and then replaced by MS versions.
My FontBook however does not show me those (e.g. I see no Times New Roman at all, so I can't re-enable it).
I suppose FontBook database is corrupted, so I should restart with Shift in safe mode and then FontBook should be fine, right?
What do I do with /Library/Fonts (Removed)  to bring in back in a propper way? Will FontBook also be able to see those and propose their restoration?
I would appreciate if someone could say with confidence what to do step by step to add Fonts (Removed) and Fonts Disabled back in use. I don't have a TimeMachine running (yet, plan to do it soon), and I use Mac for work, so i would prefare to minimize risks of messing the whole thing up myself
    Thanks in advance,
    Regards,
    Denis.

    My 2¢
Goto Versiontracker.com and download "Linotype FontExplorer X"
Move your Font Book preferences from your (Library/Preferences) folder and then make an archive of Font Book (Control-click, create archive in the Finder)
    Delete the original.
    Now, install/launch FontExplorer X.
There is an option to clean font caches during install - do that and your Mac will reboot.
Now, there is an option under the tools menu in FontExplorer X that sets your system font folders back to defaults - do that.
You should be good to go. FontExplorer X is free and an excellent font manager.
If you have any questions, post back.

  • Font Issues on Book Recieved

I just received my 60+ page book from Apple.
I used the same font throughout the book and on 5 pages certain words were printed "hybrid". Meaning that certain characters in a particular word would mix between two fonts. The letters were still correct.
In addition I had two full bleed pages where one image covered the entire page and I inserted a title over the image. One printed fine, the other had a darkened box around the text.
    Anyone seen anything like this?

As an update Apple offered a full refund for the book due to the printing issues. It took 5 days of e-mail but I got the desired result.
    Thanks Apple
