Adding Google Maps to 'location' field

Has anyone come up with a way to easily link an iCal Event's location to a Google Map? Seems an obvious thing to do.
I see that Google Calendar has this as a facility but cannot see an iCal plugin that offers a similar function.

Here is what I do, but I am sure you have already thought about it.
I go to google maps and find the location, then paste the url and back in ical, in the event, copy it in the url field of that event. Not great, not automatic, but better than nothing, and that helps me when I want to send invites for that event, as the url is embedded, or when I recall that event and just click on the url to immediately open a page in my browser for the map.
hope this helps

  • Touch Screen not working for Google Maps or Youtube

Just the other day I started noticing a weird issue. The touch screen is non responsive for the top banner on Google Maps (the location field, the transit buttons, the edit button). The touch screen works for the rest of the application. I can move the map around and use any of the buttons along the bottom. It renders the app pretty much useless as I can't enter any new addresses in.
I also noticed a similar behavior in Youtube. The "Done" button can not be pressed. When I go to the Mapquest iPhone page, I get the same issue...buttons in the top banner do not react to touch.
At first I thought it might just be a defective screen but other buttons (such as the Text app button in the same location) can be pressed and respond to the touch.
I've rebooted and even restored to a point before this started happening, but no change.
Has anyone ever seen this issue or is anyone experiencing it with the above apps? Any ideas?

I took it in and they replaced it.

  • Centro + Google maps with My Location?

    Hi,
Does anyone has any news about that?

    Post relates to: Centro (Sprint)

I had a Centro with firmware version 1.05 and Google maps version 1.2.0.9 (which does not have the My Location feature on the menu).  I updated to firmware version 1.07 and Google maps 2.0.2, but My Location feature would not work and resulted in error message "The My Location feature is not available for this device.  It is available for Palm Centro phones."   I worked for an hour with Palm support doing a hard reset and reloading all software and it would still not work.  They said their own test Centro phone was having the same problem.  They finally told me I need a phone with firmware version 1.08.  The Sprint Store had a demo Centro with firmware version 1.08, and the My Location feature was working on it.  I have the Sprint Total Equipment Protection plan on the phone, so Sprint provided me with a replacement phone that came with firmware version 1.07 (!) and Google maps 1.2.0.9.  I updated to Google maps 2.0.2 and finally My Location feature works!  So I guess you don't really need firmware version 1.08, but some Centro phones work and some don't with firmware version 1.07.

  • Google Map Issue in OBIEE - Subject area not getting associated

    Hi Gurus,
We are trying to integrate Google map and OBIEE via mapviewer. We have done the following already -
    1. Loaded World Sample data from Navteq.
    2. Configured mapviewer source and added Google map as a tile layer with the API KEY.
    3. Imported one layer (e.g. M_STATES_ABRV) in OBIEE and linked it with BI subject area (tried this step with importing other layers as well)
    4. Added background map.
Now , in this step when we add the layer in the map, we select M_STATES_ABRV and change zoom levels. But Once we come back to main screen after Clicking OK, we see the background map is not associated with the subject area. Hence any map view report creation with this subject area fails.
We have the tried the same theme with Oracle Maps (internal type like WORLD  MAP or DEMO MAP), it works fine. only Google Map gives this issue.
This was not expected. Please suggest what we missed. We tried with cache clear, tile delete and recreation, service restart almost everything .
We looked into other threads in this community, different oracle support documents - Doc ID 1485088.1,Doc ID 1346805.1 etc  and in different internet blogs -  where it's easy as child's play, but we are still out of luck.
    OBIEE version - 11.1.1.7.140527
    Environment- windows server 2008 R2
    Please suggest.
    Regards,
    Krish

I have found the solution: You need to *select* zoom levels for the BI Layer.  When a BI Layer is added to a background map, by default no zoom layers are selected.  Once a zoom level is selected, the BI Layer will save.

  • Implement google map in ios

    Hi,
Does any know is google map api support in cs5 flash? I want to make a google map with location marking using cs5 flash for iphone. But by checking the forum here, it seems like no clear answer about how to do it and example of success. Only got yahoo map success story. Appreciate if any one could give me some hints on how to do it with google map api. Thank you in advance.

No. it is not possible to implement the Google maps flash library.
Why? because the library tries to download an swf in to your program andit is not allowed to run an swf on a iOS device.
It's a shame we can't precompile the downloaded libary into our applications. I tried doing this but it failed several times.
After that i started using yahoo maps which does work because this one doesn't download an external swf files.
    Have fun coding!

  • OBIEE 11g - Maps with Google Map as Source

    Hi Experts,
Am trying to create some maps using information from Google Maps as source.
In Map-viewer console, I have added Google Maps as the source in 'Manage Map Tile Layer' and was able to see the base map when I did a 'View Map/Manage Tiles'.
However when I logged into analytics and tried to import layers, am not able to see anything.
Is there anything that I am missing out. Thanks for any pointers.
    - Sujana

Spatial data has to be setup in the database to get layers. I tried using some of the layers from the spatial data I had and then could get a map with google map as the background map.
But couldn't find any easy alternate to fetch layer information.

  • Google Maps Updated

Have a Look through here Droid Life:. http://www.droid-life.com/2014/11/05/google-maps-receives-fresh-new-design-in-latest-update-includes-uber-integration/

It's about time Google does some updating on their mapping. The FCC is working on the 911 program now to improve it more for emergency cell site related calls. How does this tie in to Google you may ask? There is a vast network of commercial companies across America that have long been using GPS, cell sites and Google maps for location finding. l would like to see them working more on high accuracy maps and not bright colors and shadows. I realize this is a positive step but perhaps better location finding could prove better for many reasons.

  • Google Maps after 1.1.4 update

Before updating to 1.1.4 Google map's locator was very accurate, now it is pretty off..... Is this because of the update? can it be fixed?

You know, I found something pretty unique.
Edge is very inaccurate. You can test this one of two ways.
Find a friend with an iPod touch and use the feature in the same place.
Since the iPod touch only uses one medium for location, depending on how accurate that one is, is how accurate the whole thing is. My friends iPod touch was right on as to where we were, but then again you have to be in wifi to try it.
I just conducted an experiment with just my phone.
    1. type in the exact address for the red pin.
    2. while in this hotspot, eject your sim tray so that you're phone is only using wifi and use the locator feature. it should be pretty close to your actual location. then use both wifi and edge and see how far off, and then turn off wifi and use just edge. I found that with wifi, my location was barely within the boundary of blue, then when I was using both, it was way off to the north west, and then just using edge it was off the the east.
I suppose it depends all on where you live, but hopefully apple deploys some new technology for figuring the formula in the next update. Maybe asking if we want to go off of wifi, edge, or both. Or perfect the service lol.

  • Google Maps thinks I'm in Seattle WA - why??

Over the past two or three days, whenever I go to use Google Maps, the locator thinks I'm in Seattle. The problem with that - I'm at home in Metro Detroit! Even when I'm outside, with a clear shot at the sky, the GPS doesn't seem to lock in. I just get the .25 mile circle guesstimate of my location - which is always in Seattle as well.
I have turned off my WiFi, thinking that maybe it was pulling up an errant IP Location from a neighbor's WiFi - but still even on 3G Google Maps thinks I'm in Seattle, not Metro Detroit.
Any guesses at why it's doing that?
Is it a hardware issue? Something I should schedule some time with a Genius at the local Apple Store to have them investigate?
I do use the locator a lot when I'm using Google Maps, and I'm hoping to use other GPS location APPS as they become available. So if this is a hardware issue, I need to go get it straightened out to use my iPhone like I want to.

A GPS receiver requires two sets of data with which to determine location in conjunction with the real-time signals received from the satellites. These are known as almanac and ephemeris data. Normally (a non-assisted GPS receiver), these are obtained from the GPS satellites. Worst case, it can take 12-15 minutes for these files to be downloaded from the satellites.
With Assisted-GPS (as found in the 3G), the device will attempt to get a partial set of almanac/ephemeris data from the A-GPS server, based on where the iPhone thinks it is. This data is transmitted to the iPhone over the cellular data connection (3G or EDGE), or a WiFi connection, whichever is available. If your nearby AT&T cell tower is not correctly identified (bug in the tower CellID info, or an error in the A-GPS server), the iPhone will be given bad ephemeris data. It will then calculate its location based on signals from the GPS satellites and the faulty ephemeris data. That could explain why Detroit becomes Seattle.
Based on what's been reported in the many discussion threads concerning broken GPS, it appears that once the iPhone has obtained (faulty) assist data from the A-GPS server, it doesn't bother to keep listening to the data broadcast from the sky so it never receives correct ephemeris/almanac data.
Like many others, my 3G lost its GPS function after the update to v2.1. I eventually got it working by removing SIM card (so as to disable EDGE and 3G data), turned off WiFi and went outside for 20 minutes. Eventually, the GPS locking in to my location, with the pulsing blue dot. With no A-GPS server to fall back on, I surmise that the GPS receiver had downloaded the almanac/ephemeris data, and was thus able to obtain an accurate GPS location. Then I put the SIM card back in. My Location Services has been working fine since.
@MobileDev - it would be helpful if you could take your "Seattle-based" 3G outside (in clear view of sky) and wait a while to see if it eventually obtains the sky data and realizes that it is really in Detroit. That would confirm if this hypothesis is correct.

I have an I phone 4. When I bought it the google maps app came pre installed. I am in the process of adding thousands of customers into my stock contacts app. Sometimes I want to drop a pin in an exact location on the property. I drop it, assign it to the contact, leave the app, and then come back into the contacts app and click on the address. It then takes me into google maps where I constantly discover that the pin has moved. It often moves off the property of the addresss or building I dropped a pin on. I am trying to solve this. I want that pin to stay in the exact location that I dropped it. Can somebody please help?

Sorry. There's nothing anyone can do. The current version of the facebook app will not run on 4.2.1. The iPhone 3G won't run anything higher than 4.2.1. You're stuck.
Maybe it's time to buy yourself a new iPod Touch.

  • Google Maps Autocomplete field not working inside WebView

I am using a WebView to display Google Maps and the web page includes a "text" element which is a google.maps.places.Autocomplete control.
The maps themselves work perfectly but the Autocomplete field does not do the actual auto-completing. That is, as I type into it, it does not show a drop-down list of all matching locations although it does return the correct coordinates of any place I type in completely.
The same web page and the Autocomplete control work perfectly when I load them into a standard web browser.
Has anyone experienced this? How do I go about debugging this issue? Any suggested solutions?

    Try jdk8: http://jdk8.java.net/download.html
If it still doesn't work, file a bug: https://forums.oracle.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=1713
If it is a bug in the WebView implementation, use HostServices.showDocument to show the document in a standard browser until the bug is fixed:

  • IPod touch 5G has no GPS built-in, then why Google map does show your location without wifi connection?

Am confused with the above, based on Apple's web site, iPod touch 5G has no built-in GPS, see this page:
    https://www.apple.com/ipod-touch/specs.html
However when I bring my iPod touch 5G to outside where no WiFi available, but when I move, the Google Map
on the iPod touch 5G does follow me and  show my current location, though the location accuracy is not high, say, errors can be
    around 10 meters or higher.
Wonder how the location information is acquired on iPod touch 5G if no GPS, no WiFi?
    Thanks
    David

Because wifi networks are within range of the iPod and the iPod detected them and the iPod already have the location of the networks on the iPod.
You do not have to be connected to a newwork to use the location of a netowrk.
For location the iPod uses the location of nearby routers that are in Apple's database of routers and their location. Thus it appears that Apple's database is incorrect. You do not have to be connected to the router, just within range.
Apple periodically updates their database based on information they obtain from iPhones, The iPhone has to have turned on the option to send info to Apple. no one has found another way to get the location of a router added/corrected.
You can confirm that by going to well-know place with wifi like Starbucks or McDonalds

  • Safari 8 hover does not work over google map location pins

    OS X 10.10.1,   Safari 8,  Java 8-25
I have always had little odd things not work when using safari on a large % of websites I visit,  the latest issues are
no response when hovering over google map location pins, travel site calendars not opening or responding to mouse, drag and drop
show the item being dragged several inches away from the actual pointer, some links don't respond, missing items
or odd layout with print or pop ups going off the screen on some website pages, zooming in and out does not help. I have none
of these issues when using Firefox or Chrome. Been using Safari for 4 years now.

Have you tried a PRAM and an SMC reset? They're longshots, but don't take long to try.
    PRAM: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
    SMC: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Have you run Apple Diagnostics from the disc(s) that shipped with the computer?
Since the problem occurs in all browsers, it still sounds like a video hardware or video RAM or maybe a software issue having to do with layers and rendering.
The map layers aren't getting rendered, or if rendered, aren't getting displayed.
Do you have any browser add-ins? Pop-up blockers?
Since you have two video chipsets, it's possible that might be related to the issue.
This non-Apple website talks about switching between chipsets on the various MacBook models so equipped, and points to a free 'donationware' program for the menubar that lets you easily switch between chipsets:
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/macbook-pro-unibody-faq/macboo k-pro-unibody-switching-between-graphics-processors.html
Trying to think of other software that might help pinpoint the problem, does the iPhoto Slideshow 'Shatter' template work? Working properly, it 'shatters' images into several color layers and rotates them in and out to build and deconstruct photos.
