Adding Groups to server admin
I'm trying to set up a wiki on our website, but I can't add any groups. Ever time I try to add a group in Server Admin under Web Services, it just disappears. And the Workgroup Manager has no options under the "Enable the following services for this group on:" tab. Blogs are working just fine, but I can't get the wiki to recognize a group for the life of me. I took a screenshot of my problem and uploaded it below. Thanks!

A couple of things to note.
1) In order to host group wikis, you must either be an Open Directory master or be connected to another Leopard Server's OD. It is simplest to have the wiki server act as an OD master.By selecting Advanced Configuration, you are committed to setting everything up by hand... just means there are a few more steps.
2) The groups you want to have wikis must be in the Open Directory Master (/LDAPv3/127.0.0.1), and not in the local directory (/Local/default). The screenshot you've given shows the group you are expecting to have a wiki is in /Local/default
3) That list in Server Admin does not denote which groups can have wikis, it denotes which users are allowed to create groups that have wikis. I've gone through it in detail in another post, but the upshot is that leaving that list empty means any authenticated user can create groups with wikis (using Directory.app). If the list is not empty, then only those users in that list (or in a group that is in that list) can have groups they've created host wikis on that machine.

Server Admin user and group limit
Just noticed today with 10.6.7 that there is a limit of 100 users being displayed in Server Admin. I guess the sames goes for Groups as well.
As soon as i deleted some old accounts the users i had created recently appeared in Server Admin.
Is there a fix for this?
ThanksAs you mentioned, it is a display limit in WM, the accounts are still there. A quick workaround is to type part of the object name in the search box at the top of the list.
That 100 object display limit was probably the result of countless meetings between middle-managers. I'm guessing it went something like this:
"Why don't we just show them all?"
"Some deployments could have tens of thousands... that won't work... it'll take forever to load and even longer for somebody to skim through the list."
"Okay, how about we do 1000?"
"No, that won't work either. Still too many to skim through and, even worse, they'll spend years with 999 objects in there then add a few more and think it's broken..."
"Fine... then 100. Short enough to load reasonably quickly and long enough that the average person could eyeball it."
"But there will still be some admins who think it's broken and want to change it."
Steve Jobs walks in, "Give 'em a search box."
Middle-managers in unison, "Brilliant!"
Sorry. It's early, and I'm a bit punchy. -
Server Admin "Access" Section and groups
Hi all,
I read some posts about using the ACL in the server manager to control who can do what and I found exactly what I need...letting blog people have an account but not be allowed to log into my AFP share to do damage.
My problem is that when I go to put in my "admin" and "HTTP users groups" into the ACL allowed list, they won't show up. I know in Server Admin and Workgroup Manager you have to turn on hidden system users/groups to see them, and I have them on, but I can't see them in this particular view. Does anyone have a work around so I can set up these lists?
Thanks!Spoke with our Apple rep and found a solution here:
http://www.bombich.com/mactips/scripts.html
The last script on the page allows for setting ACLs to groups.
What it actually seems to do is to create a new group called "* access" where ** is the service in question (afp, ftp, loginwindow, etc). It gets an ID from 500 forward, which makes it a user level group, which the server can see. It also gains a name like com.apple.access_*.
From there, it places the users/groups you define in the script into the group membership, and then applies it to the ACL.
All in all, it works very well, and I highly suggest it.

Server Admin - Trouble creating groups
Hi,
I'm having issues creating groups after installing Leopard. I open up Server Admin, click the little "lock" symbol, and authenticate using my admin account... everything goes fine so far. But, when I create a new group, I get an error saying I don't have permission, and no group appears... I know I have permission to create new groups so I tried a few more times unsuccessfully. No new groups until I restart Server Admin, then I saw all the Untitled Groups I created without knowing...
Sometimes I can delete them, sometimes I get a permission denied.
Is this a common bug?
Thanks,
ChrisWhat do the logs have to say about this? specifically /var/log/httpd/error_log
Do you have an index.html file in the directory? If you don't have a valid index file Apache might try to generate a directory listing, which is disabled by default.
Finally, for now, where is the directory you're trying to use? and have you checked the permissions of all the intermediate directories? Apache needs permission to read all the directories to the document, not just the final directory. -
Server Admin not displaying groups correctly
Server 10.5.8, Mac Pro 4 core 2.66, 56 GB RAM.
Had a crash yesterday, all back to normal now except:
Server Admin's "show users and groups" is not displaying groups correctly" "users" is missng, and any new groups I created in WM are missing. Even if I sort by GID, they don't show up. And yet, if I type "staff" in the search bar, it shows up with GID 20. Also shared folders are showing up as groupsSurely someone can at least point me in the right direction? I tried rebuilding the LDAP database, but that didn't fix it.

Is there any way to add an existing o365 Tenant Cloud group as System Admin to all Sites on our o365 SPO Tenant via power shell? I know we can do it with accounts. But apparently since o365 Tenant cloud groups have no email it's not possible
via script. What's up with that? The only way we can is creating a permission group on each site and we are not looking to do that.i dnt think powershell is supported in o365 you can check below links for multitenant reference:

Changes required after adding the sap server in domain (Visual Admin )
Hi All,
Yesterday we added our SAP Server (ABAP+JAVA) in our organization domain, Pls let me know what entries do I need to make in Visual Administrator and Configtool????
Regards,
PrashantPrashant,
Your request is not clear. What do you mean by added to the domain?
But if you have connected exisiting sap system on the network (ABAP+JAVA) then visual administrator should work as it is. Please check your network connections are ok.
Hope this helps.

I just upgraded to Apache2 so that I could, sensibly, use the Server Admin app to manage all my web sites. Previously, my various httpd conf files were too complicated and I had resorted to hand coding them.
The good news is Server Admin and Apache2 are much closer to functional.
One bit of bad news: I can't get the reverse proxies to work consistently. Once set up, I get the most peculiar mix of success and failure -- almost at random. For example, some URIs load; others don't; sometimes a page loads, but it's style sheet doesn't.
What I want is simply this:
*/confluence (proxy to) localhost:8081/confluence
Using hand-edited config files, I'd usually do something along these lines (and this works great, by the way, if I stick it into 0000any_80www.mydomain.com.conf:
ProxyRequests Off
ProxyPassReverse /confluence http://localhost:8081/confluence
ProxyPass /confluence http://localhost:8081/confluence
So, off to Server Admin to make this work. I tried checking "Enable Reverse Proxy" and specifying a Proxy Path of "/confluence" and a Worker URL of http://localhost:8081/confluence. This ended up created the following entry in my 0000_...conf file:
<IfModule modproxybalancer.c>
ProxyPass /confluence balancer://balancer-group/
ProxyPassReverse /confluence balancer://balancer-group/
<Proxy "balancer://balancer-group">
BalancerMember http://localhost:8081/confluence
</Proxy>
</IfModule>
I wasn't able to figure out what a Sticky Session Identifier, Route or Load Factor would be used for... so I left those blank. Perhaps that's why it's not working... sure would be nice if there was some help in Server Admin...
Hm. Anyhow, Ok, looks alright. I'm not totally sure about the balancer bits (like why they are there), but I don't see why it wouldn't work. But... IT DOES NOT. I get totally inconsistent results. Some pages load, some don't. Sometimes I get some page assets, while others don't come through. Bah. However, if I get rid of the above, and simply put this in:
ProxyRequests Off
ProxyPassReverse /confluence http://localhost:8081/confluence
ProxyPass /confluence http://localhost:8081/confluence
It works great. Only problem is, anytime I edit a server configuration, Server Admin goes and deletes those lines! I think I've found a way around it though. I put the above lines into a "0000.proxy" file (in /etc/apache2/sites/0000.proxy) and now I've added this line:
Include "/etc/apache2/sites/0000.proxy"
At the bottom of my 0000_...conf file. So far, Server Admin hasn't deleted that line... and it seems to be working.
BUT, I'd just LOVE it if someone could tell me how to make this work without hacking around in the command line! Very annoying -- and of course, my proxies are showing up in Server Admin, and I really wish that would work.Hi there
For the benefit of anyone looking at this thread, what is meant here is that if you choose to open the help for RoboHelp, you have an abiliity to add a comment. That comment may be kept private or shared with others. If you elect to share it with others, it is generally added as a comment into the pages that provide the help. If approved, Adobe may amend the help topic to reflect the new information.
@Jared - Was that information missing in your file? I thought when you elected to use this file that it was automatically populated with all available settings. And unfortunately (IMNSHO) the settings don't immediately reflect the settings in the dialog. (I think they should, as a starting point. At least, that's the behavior *I* expected the first time I played with the feature. I was admittedly taken aback when it didn't work that way.)
Assuming the setting was missing, how did you manage to sort what setting should be added?
Cheers... Rick

Added user as Farm Admin - still can't create a new Web Application
What exactly does it take for someone (assuming through Central Admin) to be able to have enough permissions to create a new Web Application?
I just added one of our developers as a Farm Admin, and the 'New' button is disabled for him, so he can't create a new Web Application. As I mentioned in my post. To create a Web Application you need to be both a Farm Administrator and a local administrator on the server. You said he was a farm admin. Was he also a server admin on the server?

Server admin gives workgroup generic name
In Realms (in Server Admin) I have added a realm and given access to a group as defined in Workgroup Manager. However, Server Admin refuses to give that group the name I gave it in Workgroup Manager, instead simply calling it 'workgroup', which is not very helpful.
Also, if I add a user who also has a home folder, Server Admin makes a double entry, once of the short name, and once of the short name @LKDC:SHA1.{long string of alphanumerical characters}. Should these both be given the same permissions, or can I delete one of the two entries, and if so, which?
Thanks for your help!

Home dir quotas not showing up in Server Admin
We have 8 AFP servers here and for some reason 2 of them are not displaying the quota information in Server Admin. Nothing has been changed to these machines so I'm puzzled as to why this is happening all of a sudden.
Any ideas? Thanks. So how DOES one go about adding new users? I have the Advanced installation. Here's what I have done:
Gone into Workgroup Manager, authenticated into LDAP 127.0.0.1 along where the other users are
Added a new user
Gave them short name email addresses: Name: Scott Thatguy, Short Names: scott, [email protected]
Gave him a password, clicked "access account"
Enabled their mail in the Mail tab, gave them a mail server which resolves properly, and IMAP only
Save
In Server Admin: Mail: Overview, IMAP is running.
In Server Admin: Mail: Maintenance: Accounts, nobody new shoes up. I've stopped mail, restarted it. Nothing. Restarted the box. Nothing.
Nobody knows what's going wrong? Why haven't these accounts been started and showing up in this list?
Really, any help appreciated. This stuff is supposed to be easy.
Cheers -
NetBoot/NetInstall settings in Server Admin buggy as ****?
Hi,
I administer a Mac pool in College. We recently updated to all new iMacs (except for one, which still is a 2006 C2D iMac) and Leopard Server running on a PowerMac G4 (Dual 1GHz, 1.5 GB RAM).
Except for a few initial quirks with Directory Services, Leopard Server runs fine and snappy on the G4 and seems highly reliable. But then again, there's this BIG problem with NetInstall.
We setup one of the new iMacs as the master computer with all the neccesary software installed, and then created a NetInstall image from it using System Image Utility. It took a while, but went fine.
We then placed the image in the proper directory (Library/NetBootSP0), and configrured and launched NFS and NetBoot services in Server Admin. It found the image and offered configuration for it. But somehow, the most essential settings are not saved, when clicking "Save" in server admin, no matter whether the service is still running or being stopped before settings are changed.
These settings are saved by Server Admin:
Default image
Enable this image
Diskless (while not being available)
Architecture (Universal, Intel or PPC)
Protocol (NFS or HTTP)
While these settings *are not* saved by Server Admin whatsoever:
Model property filtering ("Allow any Apple Computer" vs. "Allow only specified models")
MAC Address filtering ("Allow only listed clients and deny others" vs. "Deny listed clients and allow all others")
(These settings appear when selecting an image from the list an clicking on the Edit-button (with a pen on it))
Whenever I make a change to this and click "Save", Server Admin simply ignores this and reverts it to the default settings, which are "Allow any Apple Computer" an "Allow only listed clients and deny others" with no clients listed.
When I leave the setting on "allow listed and deny others" (Whitelist), an add a clients MAC Address and save, this is ignored by Server Admin.
When I change the setting to "deny listed and allow others" (Blacklist), and save, this is ignored by Server Admin too. No matter whether I add MAC Addresses to the blacklist or not.
That way, the NetBoot service will *not send my NetInstall Image to any client*, because it thinks it has a whitelist configured, that is permanently empty. Clients not added to the whitelist are denied, which is good, but it is not possible at all, to even add a client to that whitelist. Blacklisting some machine and allowing all others doesn't work either.
Editing the approproate NBImageInfo.plist manually showed me, that Server Admin is able to:
read settings for specified types of models properly, but unable to change this setting
and *unable to even read settings about whitelisted or blacklisted MAC addresses* from the plist (keys "EnabledMACAddresses" or "DisabledMACAddresses") properly.
And so, it also cannot write these settings into the plist, it seems.
I have to NetInstall the classroom until thursady, and because of this bug, I cannot get it to work as it should, since all my cients are denied the image. This is very frustrating.
What can I do?
Message was edited by: jamespsullivanMAC address filtering at the server level works, just not filtering at the image level. Depending on exactly what you are trying to achieve, this might help. But, I'm not clear on exactly what you are trying to achieve with the filtering.
The 1,0 syntax is mostly irrelevant. It is simply a reference to the NIC on the connecting system. If you have a machine with multiple NIC's (such as a Mac Pro) you might see something like 2,0:xx... instead. Regarding the rest of it, I believe the Server admin will accept accept any MAC address in the format of xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx with or without leading 0's (i.e. 00:0a:1b vs. 0:a:1b).
Model filtering information is stored in the NBImageInfo.plist, and can be manually tweaked with an appropriate application of force. You can manually move system types that you want enabled into the EnabledSystemIdentifiers list (and, of course, remove them from the DisabledSystemIdentifiers list). -
IChat server admin Service Running, status not available
X-Serve running 10.6.8
I noticed the other day thaat when I look at the iChat service in Server Admin, I observed the following:
iChat service is: Running
Start Time: Not Available
Domain: Not Available
Client Connections: Not Available
The log screen says No Log Files exist
I have seen similar screens when there was a slight lag in server admin gathering information to display on screen. This stays this way indefinately. The service is working as far as I can tell, IE people can log in, add each other, and chat. A log file is in fact being used and updated (/var/jabberd/message_archive/)
I noticed this because I was trying to autobuddy.sh, I script I use often to update when I add new users to the organization so they show up in everyones group list. I attempted to stop the service from the command line using:
#:serveradmin stop jabber
#:jabber: state = RUNNING
and was never able to stop iChat. The system behaves the same after a reboot. I am not sure what to do, or what the actual problem is. The only thing besides a reboot that I tried was a permission repair from within the OS.
In the log below I removed some user specific information because they are user names for users on my network. This server and service is internal only.
the console logs I have this:

Any help on what might be going on or a push in a direction would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!Well I searched the forums here and I found some similar issues, however the fix's I was directed too did not resolve the problem.
I did notice this today after reading a post regarding the use of the .local domain name, and fixing that fixes this issue:
When i selected my server on the left hand side of server admin, click on settings at the top (the gear) then on Network, I see:
Ethernet 1 (eth0) IPv4 192.1.1.4 Aphrodite.local
I am not sure where the .local is coming from. This is an internal server and has been configured with a FQDN for 2 years now, aphrodite.cotaoil.net. On the server, the only other place I see the .local, is in system preferences, sharing, at the top it has my fqdn, but when I click on edit, it has a local host field that says Aphrodite, with a .local greyed out after, or ghosted.
When I use the command changeip -checkhostname I recieve:
changeip -checkhostname
Primary address = 192.1.1.4
Current HostName = aphrodite.cotaoil.net
The DNS hostname is not available, please repair DNS and re-run this tool.
dirserv:success = "success"
the hostname not available message is new (well I know at some point in the not too distant past I did not have this message) so I am not sure if an update broke this or not but basically I am not sure where to go from here.
The DNS settings are set the same as they were when I originally set up the server. Reviewing DNS logs, I do not see anything abnormal.
additionally when I run scutil i get:
aphrodite:~ root# scutil --get LocalHostName
Aphrodite
aphrodite:~ root# scutil --get ComputerName
Aphrodite.cotaoil.net
I am a little stumped as to where to go from here. I believe based on some other posts Ive read that this may have something to do with why I cannot see any iChat status and am recieving the dreaded "detailed service status not available until network configuration completed"
Thanks for any and all thoughts. Currently reviewing Hoffs tutorials, but I used combined Hoff tutorials and apple server guides when originally set up the server. Please let me know what I did wrong (besides my internal IP range) -
Server Admin iCal Overview shows info as "Not Available"
Next to each topic (Accounts, Calendars, Groups, Locations, Resources, Events & Todo Lists) Server Admin displays "Not Available". The iCal server is running and users are interacting with it OK. The disk usage is 0.0B, there are about 10,000 events.
Since this happened there have been problems accessing calendars via the web (hardly used so not sure what others are seeing).
I've checked & fixed the POSIX permissions for the /Library/CalendarServer hierarchy. I tried deleting the .db.sqlite files & letting iCal repopulate them.
All the settings are intact and haven't changed. The logs show no culprit entries, just the usual. /etc/caldavd/caldavd.plist does not appear to be corrupted.
Ideas?A hard drive started having RAID errors around 5/1, so the server is being rebuilt from scratch.
I'm still curious if anyone knows the how & why of this issue.
