Adding HD Channels

I'd like to see both Ovation and TCM added in HD.

I agree. I would also like to add that these HD channels be included, as well: G4 Channel, Cooking Channel, Chiller, TV Land, TV One. Actually, why not provide ALL channels that have a HD broadcast? As much money as we're paying, it sucks to watch low grade channels in anything less than HD when it's available. I switched to Verizon to get away from Comcast and Cablevision, but it looks like I gave up much more.

Docs on adding new channels/portlats

I'm working with a group of people who are evaluating the 2005Q4 portal server. We want to add some new channels and maybe a customized portlet. I'm trying to narrow down the documents we need to read to figure out how to do this.
Can someone direct me to the correct documentation for this? It isn't possible for us to read every page of the portal server documentation so I need to narrow it down to what is necessary to add new channels.

The anonymous portal desktop is defined under the authlessanonymous user.
The most common container that is used is the JSPTabContainer. Adding a tab is just like adding a channel, except that you choose the JSPTableContainerProvider for the Tab and add it to the JSPTabContainer.
The first tab on the anonymous user's desktop is called the MyFrontPageTabPanelContainer.

We are looking to subscribe to Mediaset Italia channel, but it is not currently offered. All other competitors have it. Will Verizon be adding this channel soon?

Easiest solution for adding Fibre Channel Tape Backup to Xserve RAID setup

I'm interested in getting a Fibre Channel LTO-3 tape library such as the Exabyte 221L for my Xserve RAID/Xserve G5 setup. I realize there are SCSI LTO-3 solutions that are less expensive than FC, but I'd prefer not to have to add a SCSI card to my Xserve, mainly because I'd have to pull the video card and run the server headless (horrors!). However, I understand that I must get a Fibre Channel switch to allow the LTO library, the Xserve, and the Xserve RAID to communicate... you can't just daisy chain FC devices. The least expensive switch I can find is the new QLogtic SANbox 3050 for about $1800. For my situation, in which these will be the only FC devices I'll probably ever use, does this switch sound appropriate? Xserve RAID & Xserve G5 Mac OS X (10.4.5)

For simple environments like yours, it's trivially easy. You must plug everything in, and you're good to go... as simple as a network switch.
Now if you start adding multiple hosts (i.e. plug in a second Xserve or G5), you need to be careful, because in the default configuration everything is "wide open," so every device can see every storage LUN. This would actually be problematic, as systems could (actually, would) corrupt each other's storage. When you get to this point, you'll need to look at either zoning the ports on the switch, or using LUN masking on the Xserve RAID to allocate specific pieces of storage to specific hosts.
But for now, just get the switch, plug everything in, and you're off.
BTW if you mark "answered" for me, versus for the thread overall, it helps me out a bit in this forum ranking system, whatever it is.

Problems adding virtual channels in Max

Has anybody had any problems adding new virtual channels to an existing DAQ OPC configuration? We have a working configuration using 99 tags and adding a further tag to bring the total to 100 causes an OPC server failure. Any help or clues would be appreciated.

There are no ways to change the sensor range and physical ranges
programmatically in Traditional DAQ. Under DAQmx, you have Scaling VIs,
Calibration VIs, Task VIs that allow you to change various settings in
MAX programmatically.

Adding Auxilary Channels

Hi all, i was just wondering if anyone knew how i could add more auxilary channel strips on my mixer in logic pro 7.2?
I would like to add more than the 2 i already have so that i can route each of the sounds from the ultrabeat drum synth to its own channel strip so i can manipulate them some more by adding effects like delay etc to each sound.

A real quick way to add anything in the Mixer window is to select the "global" setting in the mixer, this will open all objects that are in the environment, then just double click on the objects you want in the mixer and they will appear in the Arrange window and the mixer window. It happens that sometimes the T1 2/0 is full so I would like to direct the overflow traffic to the T1 2/1.

This is my recommendation.
Step 1) Create your Keynote presentation.
Step 2) Record your speaking part (separately) with an audio recording program.
I recommend Audacity. It's a great free application. You can download Audacity from www.sorceforge.com among other places. You'll also want to get the Audacity LIB file that is needed to export your audio recording to .mp3.
3) From the Keynote Inspector, under the Document tab, go to the audio section and add your new voice recording file to the Soundtrack.
4) From Keynote, go to File, Record Slideshow.
While the audio plays, click through your slides. This is getting the slide change time down.
5) From Keynote, go to File, Export. Make sure to have the following settings:
Playback Uses: Recorded Timing
Include audio (sound files, movie audio): NOT SELECTED
Include the slideshow soundtrack: NOT SELECTED
Include the slideshow recording: SELECTED!!!
Click next and your Keynote presentation should export to a .mov file (keep in mind, this .mov file has no audio. we'll take care of that in the last steps).
6)Open the new .mov Keynote presentation in Quicktime Pro.
7) Open the original .mp3 sound file in Quicktime Pro.
8) Select All of the .mp3 file and then click CTRL + C to copy it.
9) Go back to the .mov Keynote file and Select All. Then go up to Edit > Add to Movie.
This adds your sound and movie file together.
10) Finally click on File > Save As. Select, Save As A Self-Contained Movie and you're done.

Problems with premium channels added

I've been having nothing but problems trying to add channels to my package. I went online yesterday & saw they were doing the 50% off for 12 months promo for their different movie packages and I went ahead and added the Showtime/Starz for $8.50/month. It never came on last night. I called and was told that my local center is probably closed & that it would work in the morning. This morning it still didn't work so I called the # given to me last night (1-888-978-2176) which got me nowhere. I was told my acct# is invalid and that I'm not even eligible for Fios in my area (which I've had for a year & a half.) After getting my address wrong several times, I was told I'd need to be called back (which I still haven't been.)
I then called 1-800-VERIZON and was told he didn't see anything about me adding these channels. I asked if he could go ahead and add them for me then and he said he could but it would be $9.99. I stated how it was $8.50 online and he said maybe it was an online promo and that he couldn't give it to me. I was then told that I could have Showtime OR Starz but not both. I told him that when you go to upgrade online Showtime/Starz for $8.49/month was clearly an option to which he really didn't seem to care and said that's not available in my area and I'd pretty much have to get each one seperately.
Sorry, part of this is to vent due to my frustration but another part is to see if this sounds right since I feel like I get a different story/response everytime I call customer service. I really wanted Showtime/Starz but I told him if this was the case to just sign me up for Showtime. Also if this is actually the case, that package should be removed from the options on the website. I also should've been notified that my online order had been cancelled.

I have the opposite problem - premium channels keep getting added without my permission or intention. I have a 4-yr-old son and I think he is playing with the remote while I'm at work. Apparently the FIOS STB will let you subscribe to any premium channels just by clicking a few buttons. So far I have had HBO and the Playboy channel and some Chinese channel (nobody speaks Chinese here) and something else.
I switched over from Comcast to Verizon's double-play last month, and now I'm really starting to regret it. It has been nothing but a headache, from adapters that don't work to this.

Problems with adding voltage ai channel to an existing task - LabVIEW

I am using the Cont Acq Strain Samples (with Calibration).vi which ships with LV as the basis for a vi I need to monitor n channels of strain gauges (1/4 bridge type I) combined with another channel of a user defined voltage channel (pressure, temperature etc). Everything works fine when I use the strain null option but I am having problems when I include the shunt cal option. I am defining the strain channels then building the strain task using DAQmx Create Virtual channel.vi followed by the strain null opton then the shunt cal option (so far just like the example). I then have the option to add a user defined voltage input, again using the DAQmx Create Virtual Channel.vi, (selected from a list of predefined configurations). Everything is fine so far. I then send the task to the sample clock vi (continuous samples) and then to the DAQmx Start Task.vi then into a while loop where the DAQmx Read (Analog 1D Wfm Nchan Nsamp) resides. I then display (and record) the acquired waveform signals at a fairly low rate. If I am only doing the strain null on the strain channels everything is fine but if I have included the shunt cal on the strain channels, the data becomes mixed up or is in some way corrupted that I have not put my finger on yet. I get no error messages. Additionally, if I don't include the additional voltage input task and only use strain channels everything is fine. I have looked at the shunt cal vi's and cannot see any way that adding another channel to the task list can cause this problem. I am emphasizing that the strain null and shunt cal are done prior to including the voltage ai channel to the task. I am using an SCXI-1520 (for strain gages) and an SCXI-1121 (oher signals) with a SCXI-1600. I have also attached the .llb for this. I am probably missing something basic but sometimes those basic misconceptions can be the hardest to find. Any ideas?

Yep, something basic. Apparently in the Shunt Cal subvi the task is executed to acquire a set of actual strain readings which are then used to calculate a percent of theoretical strain values. Anyway, the task is started and then stopped (not deleted). Apparently it is taboo to add a channel to a task that has already been executed, which I think makes sense. I'm just not sure why I didn't get an error message istead of the thing going along its merry way while spitting out garbage. To correct this I simply broke the shunt cal vi up and executed the part that ran the task after adding the non-strain channel to the task. Works fine now.

Dynex DX-24L150A11 adding non-existing channels

I bought this Dynex TV (DX-24L150A11) for my mother last summer, and it's been pretty good. She has the most basic cable plan with Comcast (gets a few unscrambled channels with no cable box). She gets local over-the-air HD channels just fine by having the cable hooked up. It's her first HDTV, and she's loving the clarity.
She didn't want all the channels she could receive (home shopping, foreign language, etc), so I programmed the TV with just the channels she wants so that she can channel surf with the Channel +/- buttons.
The problem is that the TV randomly adds channels with no signal to the programmed list. No one has programmed them in. They just appear on the list. So now when she uses the Channel +/- buttons, she is frustrated with all of the channels that have no picture. There are probably 10-20 channels added to the list.
I have reprogrammed this TV at least 10 times over the last few months to remove the offending channels. I updated the firmware. We thought it would work better, but then the channels started appearing again.
I know she doesn't know how to program the TV, so she's not adding the channels herself (and why would she?).
What's wrong with this TV's firmware? Is there something else that could be causing this (like maybe she's hitting some weird button combination on the remote)?

I saw this a long time ago. The User *was* adding channels unkowingly when using the channel +/- buttons. It seemed to occur when the button was pressed repeatedly very fast succession, instead of slowly or being held down. It seems as if the controller thought the key presses were meaning to add channels...

Personalized channel guide

I'm new to FiOS TV and find myself facing many of the same questions, and disappointments, I had as a Comcast customer. For example, channel clutter.
The package I subscribe to has dozens of channels I will truly never, ever, ever watch even though I am subscribed to them by default within my package. Checking the guide requires scrolling past listings of all those channels I don't care about. Channel surfing is like walking through mud it's so thick with uninteresting channels.
For decades TVs have allowed users to quickly and easily add/delete channels from showing up when surfing. That's pretty much what I'm looking for - get the unwanted channels off the guide, out of search results, and never appear when I'm surfing.
I think I could create a "Favorites" set if I had the patience. But adding each channel via the web UI requires four separate clicks:
On the little heart at the left of the guide
Choosing Favorites 1 or 2
Save
Closing the "Your channel was added to Favorites" window
I just don't have the patience for 200 or so clicks just to create my personalized favorites list.
Someone please tell me there's a better, meaning faster and easier, way to customize my viewing experience. I feel like I have gone backward 20 years in flexibility.

I think I should first tell you what we want to do:-
For each message that comes in:-
1) we want it to be sent to our program
2) from our program we want to call our application that will go through the message, and on the basis of certain rules built into the application, will decide whether the message needs to be re-enqueued or discarded.
For the above I need to certain configurations.
I think I can use the intermediate_channel.c program that comes with the SDK in the /example/mtasdk directory, and from that program can call the application.
Please suggest on the above.
Coming to my present configurations.
No, I had not added the xloop_test channel to the job_controller.cnf file.
However, I had added the channel to the job_controller.site file as:-

(where intermediate_channel is the compiled version of the intermediate_channel.c pogram that comes with the SDK examples.)
Now, I have done something else:-

How do I run multiple channels in the same VI?

I am trying to analyze two signals, one temp, the other strain. I have configured my two tasks using MAX, and written separate VIs which work fine when run independently. Now I want to measure the two signals and output the data on two separate graphs within one VI, but when I run the VI I keep getting an error stating that the "resource is already reserved" (or something to that effect). I tried adding a channel to an existing task, and building the VI but that didn't work (both signals showed up on both graphs). I also tried using two separate tasks but that when I get the aforementioned error. How do I get each channel to show up on different graphs?
I am using: M-Series DAQ card 6259, SC-2345 and SCC modules, with Labview 8.0

How to write to one channel of a task with multiple channels? (plus other things...)

So I have a USB-6009 DAQ. It has 12 digital output lines. I want one channel that is "Dev0\line0:10" which represents an address bus in my application. And a second channel "Dev0\line11" which represents a program enable line in my application.
I have tried creating two different tasks and adding one channel to one task and the other channel to the other task. The only task that worked was the task with "Dev0\line0:10". It was always the task containing that channel, regardless of the order of creation. So then I moved on to a different method. (I read somewhere that I should only create one task of each type. like only 1 DO task only 1 AO task etc... However I am also using the two analog ouputs to and have a task for each AO and they work just fine.)
I tried add both channels to one task. But when I needed to control only the address bus, I had to have some information for the other channel as well. This was a little trying, but I could configure it that way. But it turned out to be easier for me to just make one channel with all the lines and OR in the data for line11 with each write.
I just wondered if it was possible to write to one particular channel of a task and not the other channel? That would really be the ideal solution for me. especially if I could write multiple samples to the one channel while I left the other channel alone. Which brings up another complaint... Why does WriteMultiSamplePort only work if I use a DigitalMultiChannelWriter, and not if I use a DigitalSingleChannel writer even though my task only has one channel (and by the way I set up the channel as one channel for all lines)? A perplexing issue to be sure.
And no I can't just load all my samples into an array and write them all at once because I also have to manipulate the two analog outputs in between the various digital writes.
I am using NI DAQmx 7.5 and C#. I am trying to use the DAQ to program a digital switch, which has proven to be a real challenge. In push-pull mode there is too much ringing for the switches programming port to tolerate. But the switches interface is LVTTL, so I needed the 3.3V. When I changed to open-collector I had to use voltage dividers to drop down to 3.3V. But the rise time using open-collector is too slow for me the program the switch in serial mode, so I had to change to parallel. The switch has an 11 bit multi-plexed ADDR/DATA bus. So the DAQ I had chosen to use which had plenty of lines for the serial programming, now is strained to it's absolute limits by the parrallel interface. ARGH. The only output I am not currently using is the counter, and I'm going to need it if I ever want to read back from the switch. But first I have to seperate the ADDR/DATA bus from the CS line on the DIO lines of the DAQ. And I don't know for sure what I'm going to do about the voltage level translation when I have to go bi-directional. Maybe I can filter out the ringing in push-pull mode? Any thoughts on that?

In most cases, you are exactly right: you can only use one task for one type of operation (i.e. only one analog input task in the same program). With the USB 6009, you can have multiple digital output tasks running at the same time. I was able to run a digital output program with two different digital output tasks configured for a USB-6009.
However, you stated that it would be better if you had everything in a single task for your application and write data to only some of the channels. The easiest way to do this is to modify your array of output data so that only the data to that one channel is changing. So, for example, if you keep writing a 0 to the channels that do not need new data nothing will change.
If you have to change your analog outputs during this program, you could create an event structure that would stop and restart the analog output tasks without changing the digital output data. I hope that you find this information helpful.
