Adding high quality photos to iWEB 08

Hi folks,
If I add high quality photos to an iWEB site, will it automatically compress them for the web? Is there any control over the quality?

Where are you adding them to? If it's to a page rather than a photo page or album resize them to the size you want them to be when in the page, add them to the page, go to the Inspector/Metrics pane and click on Original size button. Also go to the iWeb preferences beforehand and uncheck the option to Optimize images on import.
If it's photo or album pages again turn off the optimize preferences. That's about all you can do without using different presentations options, like SimpleViewer or Flash Album Export both of which are iPhoto plugins. Those will resize the photos but you can go in and replace the files will higher quality files of the same size.
This is all predicated on the premise that by higher quality you mean less jpg compression and not larger image size.

  • Epson R340 will not print higher quality photo - Jobs Stopped!

I have seen posts on this problem before but I've tried the recommendations and haven't had any luck. From IPhoto 5 (version 5.0.4) I can print regular resolution photos but if I switch to the higher resolution photos the printer stops printing. If I restart printing it says "Opening Printer Connection" and then again "Jobs stopped".
It is very frustrating since I have printed the higher resolution photos before with the same software, drivers, etc. but I cannot repeat it every time.
I have tried verifying and repairing disk permissions but it did not work. I have also tried all combinations of Advanced Options - Print Setting along with the Presets.
    Help!
Mac Mini 1.42 GHz Power PC G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   512 MB DDR SDRAM

I reinstalled the drivers from the original set-up disk (didn't do anything)
I reread the Help topics and noticed that Epson had set the Presets to "Standard"
I noticed that in the ColorSync Utility the default preset was "Standard", so...
I set the "Format for:" to "Stylus Photo R340"
I then changed the "Paper Size" to "4x6 (sheet feeder - borderless)"
    - I used to have it as a custom 4x6 size - this may have been the problem
Then I went into the Print menu from iPhoto and checked to see that the
    Preset was "Standard"
From there I went into "Advanced Options" -> "Print Settings" and changed the Mode from "Automatic" -> "Speed" to "Quality"
I hit print and out came the higher resolution, higher quality photos.
Thanks for helping - I think you put me on the right path.

  • FILE PLACE images are SO blurry in photoshop CC-.. (these are high quality photos) any tips?

I am deleting backgrounds using eraser > saving > then combining these images into a collage on a new blank document. When I file place the tif's are SO BLURRY. I always do my work like this, but just updated my PS. File, Place is now File, Place Embedded or Place Linked. Let me know if y'all have any fixes.

OK you noted the image files are high quality photos what can you tell us about the document they are being placed into? What is your Photoshop preference for default interpolation set to.?

  • Transfer High Quality photos from iPhone to iPhoto

Is there a way to transfer the High Quality photos taken on my iPhone to iPhoto on my Mac? Currenlty it always transfers a Lower Quality photo.

I think you are asking, "How do I transfer Iphoto albums to my MacBook?"
If so it will cost you. Ive been told by Apple Support that your iphone photos albums are merely a mirror of the original photos. It is not an extra copy or a back up.
You can get a third party software from http://www.ecamm.com
Its called "PhoneView" There is a free version and one for 19.99.
I ended up getting both. It sure beats email all those cropped photos I put in albums to myself.
That would have taken forever so the 19.99 is worth it. Good Luck!

What is best all in one printer for my new MacBook Pro ? Needs to make very high quality photos. Using USB connection.

That's a difficult one but I'd always go for HP as they make so many excellent models that you'll always be able to buy the cartridges from almost anyone.  Theyre darn good printer too.  I have four in the office here and one of them is a very neat flatbed with exceptionally high tonal qualities.  One of their cheaper models is the HP 5520 A4 inkjet all-in-one - CMYK.  Good value at £70 and 4800 x 1200 DPI.

Using a photo template in iWeb, I am having trouble adding hyperlinks to photos as well as to the 'captions' beneath the photos... is adding hyperlinks simply not possible in a photo template or available only on selected templates?

  • Keeping High quality photo resolution?

I made a movie in iMovie of all still photos and music.  I have always just exported the movie to media browser but I now have imovie 11 and looked at a tutorial telling me to send it directly to idvd.  My photos are really high quality (large files)  - is that the best way to keep the quality of the photos or should I export to quicktime and customize the settings for an HD movie?  Sorry- I don't understand compression  and such, but I would love to keep the quality as high as possible.
    THANKS

    Hi
There are several levels on this Q:
    • DVD is as standard (whatever program used to author it) - interlaced SD-Video (at its best)
(HD-DVDs was a very short lived format and needed dedicated HD-DVD players from Toshiba to be played (at all))
    • iMovie'08 to 11 - has no way to Export this known to me - discard every second line in the Picture resulting in even more loss
(I rather use iMovie HD6 or FinalCut - as they can deliver)
    • Sharing to iDVD (as described in tutorials) has always resulted in degraded quality toi me - Whatever iMovie version used - especially if no Ken Burns effect is used (I never use this)
    So I do
    • in iMovie'08 to 11: Share to Media Browser and as Large (NOT HD or other resolutions as this too degrades quality)
_iMovie HD6 - just close it - open iDVD and drop Movier project icon (with a Star on it) into it. So much better result
_FinalCut Express or Pro - Export as QuickTime mov - NO QuickTime conversion ! ! - Use this .mov file in iDVD

  • Iphoto 5 : problems with exportation high quality photos with music

as I want to export some photos in an acceptable quality with music, I found the only possibility was by exportation them as quicktime file (xx.mov).
There you can choose the resolution of your photos.
By doing this there exists a button "momentan ausgewählte musik zum film hinzufügen" which even after many trials did not work.
even apple support couldn`t solve the problem.
Does anyone have an idea how it would work?
PS: I tried also other ways by using exportation as diashow in iphoto , or by using idvd - in both ways music is exported but photos are visible only in very low quality.

Hi Léonie, All the sw is at latest update. The library was simply copied from the old machine to the new machine. When I launched the new version of iPhoto (on the new machine) I pointed it to the copied iPhoto library and it picked it up without any issue. The first time I opened it, iPhoto spent some time migrating the data format from the old iPhoto version to the new, but that was done only once. I am not sharing the library between the old iPhoto and new; now the migrated library is for the exclusive use of the new iPhoto.
Regarding error messages in syslog, it's quite funny, I do see them, and they reflect the fact that iPhoto has gone off to la-la land for extended periods of time, ignoring all user input (this is what results in the spinning disc in Mac OS):
1/28/14 9:16:18.792 PM WindowServer[127]: disable_update_timeout: UI updates were forcibly disabled by application "iPhoto" for over 1.00 seconds. Server has re-enabled them.
1/28/14 9:16:20.926 PM WindowServer[127]: common_reenable_update: UI updates were finally reenabled by application "iPhoto" after 3.13 seconds (server forcibly re-enabled them after 1.00 seconds)
So that was a common 3 second "hang" of iPhoto. Nothing apart from those kinds of messages.
Thanks for the links to iStat... i do in fact have the latest version of it and don't have that problem with Mavericks.

  • Poor quality photos and type

I am doing 2 projects, first one is a video of a trip I took, where I have added type, imported in some special pieces I created in After Effects etc. After running if off and importing it into dvdstudio pro it looks great. The problem is with project #2, my photo montage. In FCP I brought high quality photos in and added type to the photos (just as I added type in my video project), but after running if off the exact same way as the video (basic export, self contained movie, current settings) and bring it in to dvdstudio pro, the quality is horrible. Type is pixilated, photos are a bit pixilated too. What am I doing wrong? It's not a monitor thing, I have burned a dvd and viewed it on tv and it was just as bad.
Thanks for any help you can give me,
    Michelle

Its not possible yet to figure out whether your problem is with FCP or with DVDSP (or both).
You need to hook up a TV to view the work in progress. Run firewire out from the computer to your camera then cables from your camera to the TV. Your camera manual will show you how to connect it to your TV if you are unfamilier with the process.
Once the TV monitor is connected, watch the sequence.
    Does it demonstrate problems?
If so, lets fix them here.
If not, the issues are being introduced in the mpeg2 encoding.
    What settings are you using?

  • Lousy DVD video quality on high res photos!

I need some help. I am new to using iMovie and iDVD.
I just created a 15 minute video with a lot of high resolution photos (anywhere from 1920x1200 to 4256x2828). These photos are sharp and look superb on a computer monitor. Once processed through iMovie and iDVD the photos look terrible - low res noise all over the place - pixels are swimming - when played back on an HDTV with a nice upscaling DVD player. (I've tested on three DVD players - one on my MacBook Pro - all DVD output looks terrible.)
The process I used from iMovie was Share Export to iDVD. While the Share Export to Quicktime output looks great in the native 960x540 playback in QuickTime - even full screen on an HDTV. But quality of what is on the DVD is terrible - particularly at showing the still pictures!
Question: If I want to optimize the image for highest quality DVD playback is there a resolution I should process the photos to with Photoshop prior to importing to iMovie (640x480 for example?) Is this just one factor? What about the method of getting the iMovie product to iDVD - does THAT matter?
How do I get to a quality, hi res. image during DVD playback if I'm using iMovie and iDVD for a slide show?
Note that most DVD players are upscaling to an HD monitor with resolution of 1080i or 1080p.
    What is the secret?
    Thanks!!

    Hi
    Still just thinking.
What file format was Your photos ? .jpg, .tiff, .psd, .bmp else
Free space on internal boot hard disk way over 25Gb free - I hope.
4x3 SD video standard or 16x9 HD - iMovie project ?
Make a small 4x3 SD DV iMovie project with a few pictires - no Ken Burns
    Close iMovie
Open iDVD - import (This should work - if not the problem is more severe)
    Here make a DiskImage
    Close iDVD
    Open the image
    Play with Apple DVD-player
    How does this play.
as Standar DVD ? If so we have a start to work from.
Else on DVD Quality - Unsorted list of thoughts.
    *DVD quality*
    1. iDVD 8 has three levels of qualities.
iDVD 6 has the two last ones
    • Professional Quality (movies up to 120 min.) - BEST
    • Best Performances (movies less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD
    • High Quality (in iDVD08) / Best Quality (in iDVD6) (movies up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
    2. From
    • FCE/P - Export out as full quality QuickTime.mov (not selfcontaining, no conversion)
    • iMovie x-6 - Don't use ”Share/Export to iDVD” = destructive even to movie project and especially so
when the movie includes photos. Instead just drop or import the iMovie movie project icon (with a Star on it) into iDVD theme window.
    • iMovie’08 not meant to go to iDVD. Go via Media Browser or rather use iMovie HD 6 from start.
    3. I use Roxio Toast™ to make an as slow burn as possibly eg x1 (in iDVD’08 this can also be set)
This can also be done with (Apple) Disk Util tool.
    4. There has to be about or more than 25Gb free space on internal (start-up) hard disk. iDVD can't
use an external one as scratch disk (if it is not start-up disc).
    5. Verbatim ( also recommended by many - Taiyo Yuden DVDs - I can’t get hold of it to test )
    6. DVD-R (no +R or +/-RW)
    7. Keep NTSC to NTSC - or - PAL to PAL when going from iMovie to iDVD
    8. Don’t burn more than three DVD at a time - but let the laser cool off for a while befor next batch.
    iDVD quality also depends on:
    • HOW much free space is there on Your internal (start-up) hard disk. Go for approx 25Gb.
less than 5Gb and Your result will most probably not play.
    • What kind of movie project You drop into it. MPEG4 seems to be a bad choice.
other strange formats are .avi, .wmv, .flash etc. Convert to streamingDV first
Also audio formats matters. I use only .aiff or from miniDV tape Camera 16-bit
strange formats often problematic are .avi, .wmv, audio from iTunes, .mp3 etc
Convert to .aiff first and use this in movie project
    • What kind of standard - NTSC movie and NTSC DVD or PAL to PAL - no mix.
(If You need to change to do a NTSC DVD from PAL material let JESDeinterlacer3.2.2 do the conversion)
(Dropping a PAL movie into a NTSC iDVD project
(US) NTSC DVDs most often are playable in EU
(EU) PAL DVDs most often needs to be converted to play in US
UNLESS: They are plabacked by a Mac - then You need not to care
    • What kind of DVDs You are using. I use Verbatim DVD-R (this brand AND no +R or +/-RW)
    • How You encode and burn it. Two settings prior iDVD08
    Pro Quality (only in iDVD08)
Best / High Quality (not always - most often not)
Best / High Performances (most often my choise)
    1. go to iDVD pref. menu and select tab far right and set burn speed to x1 (less errors = plays better) - only in iDVD08
    2. Project info: Select Professional Encoding - only in iDVD08.
    Region codes:
iDVD - only burn Region = 0 - meaning - DVDs are playable everywhere
DVD Studio pro can set Region codes:
    1 = US
    2 = EU

  • How do I control the size of my photos in iWeb?

    Hello
I wish to ask if it is possible to control the size of a photo in iWeb when publishing photos.
What I want is that people can press on any photo in my collection and see it in high resolution. But at the moment it is messing with my photos. Some come up tiny regardless of them being a 4MB Pixel shot, and most of them if not all of them are restricted to one size...
    Thank you...
    -Steve

iWeb resizes photos in the following cases -
When using the of the photograph templates where you drag and drop your pictures:
    1) Size is capped at 800px x 800px for the slide
    2) Files are compressed, usually ~120KB\
    3) New thumbs are created (the small image you click on); those tend to be 35-45KB.
If you add a shadow, reflect or graphic option - odds are iWeb will convert your JPEG into a PNG and file size mushrooms. I've been created very compact banners, but due to PNG coversion the size has gone up by 6-8x...
I have NOT looked into just adding a photo to page and seeing what happens to the file size. Most of my tug of war has been with slide show and trying to understand why the 300-500KB files I was using were looking so bad. Now that I know iWeb is doing, I can sort of work around it.
It doesn't mean I'm happy. I'm going to add a gallery page with my favorites, format for roughly 1000x800 and keep the file size around 400 KB. I do all the file resizing in Photoshop CS2.
To put all this in perspective, i have around 325 picture uploaded - most were resized to 450 KB for the web. That 146 MB just for pictures. Add another 10 MB for web content, etc. I thought ~160MB should be used up on the iDisk. Due to iWeb's compression, usage is only 70 MB for this site.

  • Photos for iWeb: do they need to be sized, or does the program do that?

I have a number of fairly large files that i want to use in a little website I'm making in iWeb.Do I need to rez down, sharpen, etc? Or can I just import?

It can help to resize/optimize before adding to iWeb. It all depends on how many and how big the overall site is. For my photo pages with around 60 photos I just let iWeb do it's thing.
If you have a lot of photos you can batch resize/optimize them with an application like Resize!. With it you can set the pixel dimensions you want and the amount of jpeg compression (Quality). Since Resize! creates new files in a new folder you can experiment with quality levels until you get the smallest size possible that still meets your visual quality requirements.
Before you add those photos to iWeb turn off iWebs optimizing so that they get added just as you created them. If you add them to a photo page iWeb resizes to 800 x 600 so use those dimensions for your resizing. If you add a photo to a page iWeb always changes its size a bit and adds a stroke to it. You can remove the stroke and get it to the size you created via the Inspector/Graphic pane (for the stroke) and the Inspector/Metrics pane (for the size).

  • I'm looking for a high quality image of the flower in the iPhone 5 the website.

There is a flower that is used in the apple website, for the iPhone 5. It is purple and yellow. I've been looking all over the web for it but cannot find an image of it that doesn't have a glare on it. I guess it is owned by apple, but I was wondering if anyone knew where I could find a high quality image of it. Unfortunately it is not included with the iPhone 5.

    Hi(Bonjour)!
I see on photo to movie spec page that you can export in full 1920 X 1080 H.264 codec, a high quality format usable in FCE.

  • Is it possible to add high resolution photos to an ipad2 without synchronising it?

    Hi,
I'm looking in to offering potential clients an ipad with all their wedding photos pre loaded, but is it possible to add photos without synchronising each ipad to my mac? When I first got my ipad2, I couldn't use it for anything until I had connnected and registered it with Apple........I have got the camera connection kit, but haven't found a workaround for adding photos without synchronising yet?
I haven't been able to find much info on the subject so far? There must be a workaround?
    Cheers,
    MacSlates

The first thing that currently needs to be done with a new iPad is to activate it by connecting it to a computer that is running iTunes - it can't currently be used 'properly' until after that is done. After iOS 5 is released and is pre-installed on iPads then I think that should change and you will no longer need to first connect to a computer.
The camera connection kit can be used to add high-resolution photos to the iPad, unlike syncing via iTunes where the photos get 'optimised' by the transfer process. If adding the photos to the SD card yourself then you need to create a DCIM directory off the root of the card with the photos underneath it, and the photo filenames need to be exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension i.e. in a similar format as if a camera had created/written them
Otherwise there are third-party apps such as Simple Transfer which can copy photos to/from the iPad from your computer via your wifi network. But photos transferred this way will only go into the Saved Photos/Camera Roll album in the Photos app, not into a 'proper' album - and until iOS 5 is released and installed you won't be able to move the photos between albums on the iPad : from http://www.apple.com/ios/ios5/features.html#photos :
Even organize your photos in albums - right on your device
Also a problem with syncing photos to the iPad via iTunes is that they then need to be on the other person's computer when they then connect to it - otherwise the photos are likely to be removed from the device. Photos copied via the connection kit or copied via third-party apps shouldn't have that problem.
