Adding images from kodak photo gallery to iPhoto

Does anyone have experience using "Add image to iPhoto library" from an online Kodak gallery? Most of my friends and family use the Kodak gallery to upload and share photo's, and i'm finding that iPhoto doesn't get along with it very well when i want to take their pictures and add to my library. while watching a slideshow, if you try to add the first image i'll never get the option to add to iPhoto library. the only option i will get when i "right click" is "copy". if i go to picture #2 and back to #1, i will get the option but it will just add the 2nd photo that i just came from. this is the nature of most of the problems... as i navigate through a slideshow, it often times will just add the last image i was on even if i have already added that to the library. I should also mention this does not seem to be specific to just iPhoto because the behavior is the same if i use "save as" and save to folder. i'm posting it here because my main goal is to add images to my iPhoto library from the kodak gallery. the problem does not occur if I add from my kodak gallery, as opposed to the slideshow, although when i do this the picture is saved much smaller and i don't know if there's a way to make this save at the same size as it would if it was added from the slideshow on the kodak gallery site.
Hopefully that's making sense to you... if not, please let me know and i'll try to elaborate. I appreciate any advice you can give me on getting photo's from a kodak gallery slideshow into my iPhoto library!
Thanks a lot
Dustin

I think the obvious thing is to accept that you can’t really add photos from a slideshow successfully. The reason is that the server is offering Pic X but your browser is not perfectly in sync with the Server, so it’s still on Pic A or Pic B, so when you say to the Server “Download This Pic”, it doesn’t know what pic you’re actually looking at. Nor, because of the time lag involved, issues like server and browser caching, are you ever likely to get them in sync.

  • Moving from Windows Photo Gallery to iPhoto

    Hi there,
I have a couple thousand photos I'll be moving to iPhoto when I move to a Mac, and was wondering if anybody knows a painless way to get the metadata from Windows Photo Gallery in Vista across with them. Obviously I could go through and re-tag them all/album them all manually, but if there's a way of dragging albums, captions etc along with them then it'll be much appreciated.
I've tried getting WPG to sort the folder structure for me and do it that way, but I can't find an option to do that with existing (Only with new imports).
    Thanks guys!

Just select add when you import them and they will be added right in place.  You can use LR to move and rename folders.

  • How can I manually attach images from my photo booth (imported into iPhoto) to emails? Auto function, in photo booth has my photos lying sideways?

How can I manually attach images from my photo booth to iCloud emails?
They are imported as 'events' into my iphoto library.
Auto function, in photo booth has my photos lying sideways when placed in 'mail' emails?

There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:   You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.  If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later:  You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation  which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
Show File:  a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier:  Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.    3.b.
b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • How to copy an image from a photo onto another photo

Im trying to figure out how to cut and paste an image from one photo onto another. I tried exporting the main photo to a pages document and then inserting the other image, but cant seem to get it to work. Is there an easy way to do this?

You'll need an image editor for the job:
In order of price here are some suggestions:
    Seashore (free)
    _[The Gimp|http://www.gimp.org/macintosh>_ also free
    Graphic Coverter ($45 approx)
    Acorn ($50 approx)
    [Pixelmator|http://www.pixelmator.com> ($60 approx.)
    Photoshop Elements ($75 approx)
There are many, many other options. Search on MacUpdate.
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.

  • Why do I get a Fax prompt window when I try to print from Windows Photo Gallery?

Trying to print photos from Windows Photo Gallery.  Print job looks as if it goes to the queue, but does not actually print.  Fax prompt window pops up as if I were preparing to fax.  Do I now have to disable the fax in order to print photos?  I take phone calls and faxes on the same phone line.

1: I am sorry about the inconvinience.
The reason you find a check mark on a printer icon is to indicate that its a default printer. If the fax icon has a check mark, everytime you print a fax template will come up.
SOlution: Just right click on the other icon and select it as the default printer.
2: Black lines while printing photos.

  • Automatic image compression for photo gallery web apps?

Is it possible to scale and compress images to a maximum size when uploading to a web app? This is for a photo gallery that allows public submissions, and we are anticipating that we will get lots of photos that are very large. This is a task that would be best handled by a server-side image processing lib, but is there another way since we don't have that on BC?
    Thanks!

I understand that you are probably concerned with data storage limits when asking this question. But, you can create thumbnails when displaying images within the photo gallery. This will allow a very large image to display very quickly within the gallery.

  • Delete duplicate images and install images from digital photo card

Just installed Lightroom 4, more than 60000 images were imported. Many of them were duplicates, triplets and so on. I want to have a clean, unincombured library. Should I delete the 60000 images and reinstall the images from my photo digital cards or use the slow process of "X" out the unwanted images? I would like to start improving my images vs removing the unwanted images.

    HI,
if you just starting to use Lr, I would drop the entire import / catalog and use some external program to find the dublicate image and delete them.
Or if you have all your images on cards, I would  copy them to the hdd in seperated folders and rearrage them inside Lr.

  • Importing Photos From Windows Live Photo Gallery To iPhoto '11

    ##### Note:  I've seen a lot of discussion on this topic but nothing recent, so here it goes #####
    Hi -
I am about to receive my new iMac (congratulations to me!) and will soon commense transferring >5,000 photos from my PC.  I would like these to transfer into iPhoto.
I've used Windows Live Photo Gallery (WLPG) to tag these photos by various means (location, person, event, etc). I've read that WLPG stores this metadata with the .jpg file in XMP, or Extensible Metadata Platform. The result is that the tagging data is with the photo file. The tags are in a few categories:
    People
    Events
    Places
Each of these categories will have a number of tags (example:  Events include:  "Joe's 5th birthday", "Christmas '12", etc)
I understand that iPhoto supports data if it embedded in the ITPC.  Reading a bit about iPhoto, there look to be a number of homes for this data (Events, Keywords, etc).
Ideally, I would love to have these photos transferred into iPhoto with consistent tagging.  Does anyone know how I can maintain this data into iPhoto? Can anyone recommend a tool for the conversion?
    Thanks!

My Windows pc crashed and I'm thinking about replacing with the Mac Mini.  But like you, I have thousands of tagged photos in Windows Live Gallery.  Losing the tags is a non-starter.  I really don't care too much about "where" the photo was taken, but I do care about "who" is in the photo and what "event" was occurring when the photo was taken.  For example, one photo could be tagged with my daughter's name, my son's name, my wife's name, event of Disneyworld, and the date taken should be just embedded in the photo itself.  So four tags for the one photo plus the embedded date taken.
If I migrate to iPhoto on the Mac, will I be able to bring all of those individual tags over easily?  What was your final experience now that you've been messing with it for a year?  And if you are happy, are you able to sort all you photos by just clicking a person's name and a date range and having iPhoto return all photos with that one person within those dates?
Any insight would be helpful.  Thanks.

  • I downloaded 1100 photos from Kodak Easy Share to Iphoto. Now when I open the photo events in the photo library, a thumbnail screen of all the pictures appears. However, when I click on a thumbnail photo to enlarge it, a lock symbol appears. Help!

I downloaded 1100 photos from Kodak Easy Share to the Iphoto library. Now when I open

If Larry's suggestion re iPLM doesn't help there's always the last ditch effort solution:
Starting over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
    1. Open the library package like this.
    2. Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    3. Drag the subfolders of the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the open iPhoto Library package into the open iPhoto window a few at a time.
This will create a new library with the same Events (but not necessarily the same Event names) as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.
Note:  your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.
