Adding iMovie 4 on my 10.5 MBP ?

I just bought a MBP 10.5 which came naturally with iLife 08 ie iMovie Version 7.
I downloaded iMovie v 6.
On an external HD, I have projects edited in both iMovie 4 and 6.
What would happen if I add iMovie 4 to my MBP ? (I have iMovie 4 from my eMac 10.3)
a - would it get confused ?
b - would it recognise automatically which iMovie version to work with upon opening an iMovie project whether it's iMovie 4 or 6 ?
Anybody out there with all iMovie v4, v6 and v7 (08) on their Mac ?
Tks for feedback.
jc

Hi jean-claude,
I have 4 installed on a MBP and it works-.. fine?. iMovie 6 retail version has a completely different media browser than 4 and 4 runs only under Rosetta.iMovie 7 and the downloaded version of 6 are void of the media browser as it used to be and will most likely work fine.

  • Adding iMovie 9.0.9 back into Launchpad?

    Hi,
With my upgrade to Mavericks, I now have the (inferior) iMovie 10 installed in my Launchpad, with iMovie 9.0.9 removed.
I've gone back to using iMovie 9.0.9 since iMovie 10 removed the ability to export as MOV and its MP4 output files do not play smoothly on my Apple TVs. Very disappointing since the source video is from my iPhone 5 and my entire workflow is Apple-based.
So, my problem is: I am unable to add iMovie 9.0.9 to the Launchpad.
iMovie 9.0.9 is in the Applications folder top level, but does not show up in Launchpad.
Launchpad's search window shows iMovie 10 but not iMovie 9.0.9
Dragging and dropping iMovie 9.0.9 over to the Launchpad icon in the Dock doesn't do anything
Any tips on how to get iMovie 9.0.9 to show up in Launchpad?

Just a workaround, but you can add an automator app that launches iMovie 9.  TO do that, launch Automator and:
    - Choose type for your document: Application
    - Drag the "Run shell script" action onto your blank workflow
    - Replace the default "cat" command with the following in bold: open -a "iMovie 9.x.x"
(replace 9.x.x with your actual version number; also include the quotation marks)
    - File - Save...: and name it something like iMovie 9 Launcher.app
Then, to change the default Automator icon do the following:
    - Open Finder, and go to your Applications folder
    - Locate your actual iMovie 9 app, single click on it and press COMMAND-i to open the properties panel
    - Click on the tiny gold-and-black icon at the top left (not the large one at the bottom!) and press COMMAND-c to copy the icon.
    - Close the properties panel, then locate your new iMovie 9 Launcher app.  Press COMMAND-i again
    - Click on the tiny Automator icon at the top left of the properties panel
    - Press COMMAND-v to paste the iMovie 9 icon over
    - Close the properties panel and enjoy your new Launchpad iMovie 9 icon!

  • I want to make a iMovie using FaceTime camera on new MBP 13" It will be about 5 hours long. Can/should I make it one long file (no dvd  needed) or break it up for whatever reason?

It is a foreign language dictionary and will be about 5 hours long. Should I or must I break it up into files of say 1 hour long or does it matter? I will NOT be putting it on a DVD

AppleMan's suggestion is CERTAINLY the way to go.
Even if you have enough available hard drive space for 5 hours, the people you are recording (or making the recording) will need breaks during the 5 hours.
Moreover, unless you have paid for a secure recording studio, you may experience noises, light changes, or other interruptions during a 5 hour session.
PLAN to stop whenever necessary.  Expecting to take breaks will make the work far less tense than fearing you will need to "start over" if you must stop.

  • MBP with 27" Display performance question

I'm looking for advice regarding improving the performance, if possible, of my  Macbook Pro and new 27'' Apple display combination.  I'm using a 13" Macbook Pro 2.53Ghz with 4GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics card and I have 114GB of the 250GB of HD space available.  What I'm really wondering is is this enough spec to run the 27" display easily.  Apple says it is… and it does work, but I suspect that I'm working at the limit of what my MCB is capable of.  My main applications are Photoshop CS5 with Camera RAW and Bridge.  Everything works but I sometimes get lock ups and things are basically a bit jerky.  Is the bottle neck my 2.53Ghz processor or the graphics card?  I have experimented with the Open GL settings in Photoshop and tried closing all unused applications.  Does anyone have any suggestions for tuning things and is there a feasible upgrade for the graphics card if such a thing would make a difference?  I have recently started working with 21mb RAW files which I realise isn't helping.  Any thoughts would be appreciated.
    Matt.

I just added a gorgeous LCD 24" to my MBP setup (the G5 is not Happy) The answer to your question is yes. Just go into Display Preferences and drag the menu bar over to the the 24 this will make the 24 the Primary Display and the MBP the secondary when connected.

  • I somehow lost my iMovie app when I upgraded to Snow Leopard

I bought my MBP in late 2008. Leopard was installed on it, and it came with iMovie. When I upgraded to Snow Leopard, I can't seem to find iMovie.
So after spending $26 to upgrade to Snow Leopard, do I have to spend $75 to buy iLife to get iMovie?

use the Installer Disks, your MBP came with, to re-install all apps.

  • 2 Macs, 1 iMovie Project

Is there a way to copy/migrate the clips n such from one Mac to another? Running the latest iMovie.
I've got a mbp and iMac both from 2010. I've spent most of my time compiling clips from my twins first year on the laptop but it doesn't quite have the graphical juice the desktop has to make sure the transitions are clean.
I know if I right click the event there's a menu that says "Consolidate Event Media" and I'm guessing whatever is consolidated could be sent via Airdrop to the iMac but I don't want to mess up what I've currently got.

Yes.  First consolidate media for the event.  This ensures that everything is actually in the library and there is no referenced material (links) which won't be found on the other mac.  You can then copy the library to another mac (by any means - though airdrop may be rather slow) also running the same latest iMovie and everything should work.
    Consolidating media:

    Moving items:

The best way of avoiding 'mess ups' is of course to have a backup before you start.

  • How do I get iMovie HD if I have iMovie 08?

Can anyone tell me where I can find iMovie HD to download?

It works but avoid using the iSight for recording by "time lapse" when you select the camera in iMovie HD's main menu.
It will not be responding to other applications that make use of the iSight afterwards, I did a reinstall of the OS and it worked again.
I've been there. iMac, iMovie 08 installed before adding iMovie HD.

  • IMovie 9- 10 across computers

    Hi all,
I have bumped into a big problem concerning iMovie. On my older MPB I'm running Snow Leopard and iMovie 9. I have a newer Mac Mini on which I'm running Mavericks and iMovie 10. I want to migrate all of my iMovie projects (and events) from my MBP onto my Mac Mini without first having to install Mavericks and iMovie 10 on the MBP. I've tried several things but nothing seem to work, e.g. moving projects+events onto an external drive and trying to import them into iMovie 10.
Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

    Hey there AndrewHat,
It sounds like you may need to follow the instructions in this article in order to use those projects in the new version of iMovie:
iMovie (2013): Update projects and events from earlier “iMovie” versions
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14746
    Manually update projects and events
If you chose not to update your existing projects and events the first time you opened iMovie, you can manually update your projects and events.
    Open iMovie.
Choose File > Update Projects and Events.iMovie searches your Mac and any connected hard disks for projects and events created in earlier versions of iMovie.
In the dialog that appears, click Update. All projects and events on any hard disks attached to your computer are updated. You can still use the original copies of your projects and events in earlier versions of iMovie.
Thanks for coming to the Apple Support Communities!

im going to get into the youtube video makeing business with an intensity extreme capture card which connect to my macbook pro through thunderbolt

Well, I ran the progran anyway, TechTool that is and looked for updates within the program and it said I was running the latest version 3.1.3. I ran the program and it crashed. I was the crash test dummy.

  • Mbp found my printer , but shut it down

I added a Kyocera Fs1000 printer to my mbp , i found it under printers and added it . I printed several items anf it worked great. A message than appered saying the item in the usb port was drwing to much power and was being disconnected . I now cannot use the printer anymore . I have unplugged and replugged with no success . I have deleted the printer and replugged it in but my mbp can't find it . Can i do anything to get this printer to work again ?

I believe the suggestion was aimed at trying to ensure the printer had its own AC power.
In the absence of the printer's AC power, it may be trying to pull power from the MBP, which could be bad.

  • .mov files and iMovie 9, moved from another Mac

    hi
I moved many iMovie files from my Mac Pro (using iMovie 6) to an external FW drive. I then connected the ext. drive to my new MBP and launched iMovie 8.0.5. Not only will iMovie 8.0.5 not launch the projects as a movie, an error message states that many files are too large and the s/w quits. The files which I can import look very compressed as well.
I have just downloaded iMovie 6.0.3 onto my MBP.
Any suggestions as to what I should do in order to view my projects? Should I launch iMovie 6.0.3 and attempt to import the files there?
    Thanks
    Chuck S.

Try an import the MOV files into iMovie 09 but make sure you turn OFF Optimize video.
Try that and see if it works.

  • Brandnew macbook pro retina kernel panic

    Dear community,
last week I bought the brandnew macbook pro retia 13". Since then I've experienced two kernel panics.
Below I've added the recently occuring one.
The MBP is connected to an external display, to a keyboard via USB and to a bluetooth mouse.
Anyone have an idea what's the reason for this? Unfortunately I can't read these panic codes.
I'm thinking of returning or changig the mbp.
    Thank you,

  • 2.53Ghz CPU not running at stock in Macbook Pro?

Hey Guys - dumb question, but I added a Windows XP partition on my MBP (running bootcamp). My version has the 2.53Ghz cpu, but when looking at the frequency it is running at in xp, I see it only hitting 1.6Ghz?
In the Properties for My Computer, it shows the right CPU, the right intended spec (2.53Ghz), and then the running frequency (1.6Ghz).
Now, I must admit that I am new to notebooks in general, so I am not sure if there are some other settings I need to consider to get the CPU to run at stock.

The Intel T9400 2.53Ghz CPU has a very intuitive feature called SpeedStep. This automatically lowers the voltage and clock speed of your CPU when the CPU load is relatively load, to reduce power consumption. As the CPU load increases (running something more intensive), SpeedStep automatically rises the clock speed together with the CPU voltage, to maximise performance.
Just to put you in the picture. When surfing the web (non-flash sites), the CPU's clock is decreased (therefore decreasing power consumption, which results in more battery life), but when you are playing a game, the CPU's clock is pushed to its default (in your case 2.53Ghz), but decreasing battery life.
If you are not convinced with this explanation, try playing a video on youtube, or do something more CPU intensive and recheck the CPU frequency.
    Hope this helps
