Adding iPhone ringtone w/out losing all music/vids

As usual, I've only done a cursory search, so if someone knows where the answer is hidden I'll be thrilled to follow where you lead
I have tried dragging and dropping and can get some of my ringtones in my music on my iPhones, but not my ringtones. The only way I can see to do that is to go into the ringtone tab and select sync ringtones- which wipes out my music and videos.
I finally got smart and created a playlist, but that was on my old computer and it didn't port over. So now do I have to pick and choose each song I want again or is there an easier way to switch ringtones without messing with my music and videos?
This seems to be a disappointing glitch w/ Apple's usually thoughtful UI.

If you manually manage music, you must also manually manage ringtones. Drag the ringtone to the iphone icon under devices.
If you sync your music, then select them to sync under the ringtones tab.
Either way, you can only sync/manage with ONE computer. If you sync/manage to another it will erase the current content first.

my laptop died, how can I plug my ipod classic into a new pc with out losing all my music, over 10,000 songs?!
    Please help!

Was your iPod previously set up to Manually Manage (where you dragged/dropped the music) or was it set to auto sync (where it started sycning as soon as you plugged it in.)?
If it was set to Manual, you have no worries. Just continue on your way.
If it was set to Auto, you will have to transfer your purchases or redownload them from the iTunes store.
You're either going to have to get the other music back from the websites/CDs you got them from before or find an iPod ripping software program that will do it for you.

  • I previoulsy have adding many CD to my iTunes music library and then synched them with my iPhone so that I have all music in both places. And I could the CDs in iTunes or iPhone with no problems. Recently, my iTunes "sees" the music but won't play it. Why

I have added many CD to my iTunes music library and then synched them with my iPhone so that I have all music in both places. Then I could the play them in iTunes or iPhone with no problems. Recently, my iTunes "sees" the music library but won't play any of it becuase "the original could not be found". If I attach my iPhone, then it pays them through the iPhone, but still not through the library in iTunes. How can I get the music library on my iPhone to transfer (i.e. restore it) to iTunes? I have iPhone 4S but have not upgraded to the iOS 6, and have not had any problems until last week.  Help!  Thanks.

Check the manual for whatever backup program you used, or, if you just copied the files over, copy them that.
How to restore data to your PC is outside the scope of these forums.

  • How do you update your Ipod touch with out losing all my apps, music, movies, and pics?

How do I update my ipod touch with out losing all my apps, music, pics ect?

Just do the update on your syncing computer. All the items should be in your iTunes library or, for synced photos, on the computer.  The items will be synced back to the iPod during a latter stage of the update.

Now I can not get or see any of my photos how do I reverse what I did? can I take that I Life back out and how? with out losing all my pictures? and how do you burn to DVDs now without IDVD?

    Diane,
Your photos are in the iPhoto Library. Almost certainly that is intact, so don't worry.
Go to your Home folder and open the folder called Pictures. What you want is in there, iPhoto Library. Don't do anything there, this is just to reassure yourself.
So it is a matter of getting the iPhoto app to work. Apps are in the Applications folder. Find it and trash it.
    Next download iPhoto:

  • The sound on my iPhone 4S cuts out when playing music/podcasts.

The sound on my iPhone 4S cuts out when playing music/podcasts.  If I unplug and replug in the headphones, the sound comes back on, but often for only 20 seconds or so before cutting out again.  Sometimes it will play for 15-20minutes before cutting out.  The track is not "paused", and appears to continue, just no sound.  I tried cleaning the headphone jack with compressed air to no avail.  I also noticed the the same phenomenon occurs when I sync my bluetooth to my car audio.  That is, it will play for a while, then the sound will cut out, even though the track is still shown to be playing.  If I reset the bluetooth, the sound comes back on.
This started happening about a week ago, but no "event" that I can think of caused it.  I didnt' get the phone wet, forcefully drop it, or leave it in extreme heat.  I've tried doing a reset of the phone.  I also was running iOS5 when I first noticed this, and since upgraded to iOS6.  The problem appeared with both.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Steve

One thing that helped was getting a toothbrush and scrubbing the dock connector on the phone.  I scrubbed the connector and used compressed air for about 1/2 hour till the connector looked much cleaner.  An Apple employee told me that the pins on the phone had a little corrosion and sand.  The problem hasn't gone away completely, but has been significantly reduced.  I'm going to hold out until my contract expires after which time I'll switch to an iPhone5 (or newer) or Android phone.

  • How can I uninstall yosemite and reinstall Loin with out losing all my in formation and programs

How can I uninstall Yosemite and reinstall Loin with out losing all my in formation and programsThis had been the worst os system apple has come out, too many errors
    too many to list.
    a few
Losing all mail. and watching them disappear in front of my eyes and could nothing about it
also when accessing cloud the screen just rolls in when accessing mail, like loading and loading and loading for 1 to 2 minuets.
I did not up grade my Mac Book Pro, and is working fine,
Just my iMac, its act kile avid card and it only happens access iCloud mail.
so I want to and need to go back to Loin

You can't unless you have a current backup of your old Lion system because the first thing you must do is erase the drive. It 's possible to use Target Disk Mode between your iMac and the MBP in order to clone the MBP to the iMac. However, that will still erase everything on the iMac's drive.
Or you could see about getting Yosemite to work correctly. If you have IMAP mail, then your mail should be intact.
Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    4. Reinstall Yosemite: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall OS X from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Download and install the 10.10.1 update.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
    5. Reinstall Yosemite from Scratch:
Download and install the 10.10.1 update.
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
How to Clean Install OS X Yosemite
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible

  • How can i transfer my ipod to my new itunes without losing all music

my computer crashed and now all i have is my cousins and i need to know how to convert my music onto her new itunes, hopefully without losing all my music. if thats possible, so there is no way i can go back to my old itunes, her computer is the only itunes i will be able to use. how can i transferr my ipod touch to her computer without losing all data???

    Welcome to the discussion,
Create a new user in windows to keep your iTunes library separate and log in. Make sure your new computer is authorized in iTunes. Disable autosync in itunes, connect your ipod, right click on it in the device list and choose backup.
This will save data, pictures and settings to itunes. See what's included in this backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Transfer your purchases the same way to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your computer.
Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your ipod got wiped during the first sync.
The rest of the data can be restored from the backup you made.
    Restoring: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • How do i get my music off my ipod touch and on to my new itune account with out losing my music

how do i get my music off my ipod touch and on to my new itune account with out losing my music

Transfer the iTunes folder from your old computer to your new computer. It's in your My Music >> iTunes folder. You'll probably need an external hard drive to do this. Make sure you upgrade the old and the new computers to the latest iTunes before transferring your music to the new machines.

  • Can I restore Shuffle without losing all music?

I recently had to do an erase and install of my G3 PowerBook. Even though I thought I'd backed up all music on an external drive, it doesn't seem to be there. Now my Shuffle isn't working and apparently needs to be reset. I've got a lot of music on it and can't don't want to lose it all. Is there anything I can do?

Will it not work for you because you're still running Jaguar? If so, I doubt that any of the others (iPodRip excepted, I think) will work either.
As for iPodRip, it used to have some sort of a Jaguar capability; others have had luck with it although I never had a reason to try it. You might give that a look.

  • HT201272 I updated my IPhone and it took away all music including my ring tones. I have been able to recover the songs but my ringtones are not showing under purchased. How do I get my ringtones back?

I updated my phone and all my music, including rigntones went away. I was able to recover my songs under purchased. My ringtones are not showing under purcahsed. How do I get my ringtones back?

I don't understand this answer. What do you mean " your contacts should be in whatever program/service you have selected to sync."? The address book is created on the phone not in Itunes or any other program/service. When Itunes says backing up phone I have to assume it backs up everything on the phone. Most of what's on my phone does not come out of itunes. I download apps directly on the phone. When the software updates it does not bring those apps back. I have to go into the appstore and install them all over again. Itunes music library syncs with whatever is on the device your linked up to BUT the phone book just dissappears after you update the phone. There is no way to save it anywhere else.

  • ITunes losing all music and won't redirect to correct folder

    Hi there,
This morning, iTunes has lost all my music. The whole library has the little exclamation mark. Using the 'Find info' comand, I can see that iTunes is looking for them in the music folder of my internal drive. However, they've always been kept on an external drive, and when I redirect iTunes to an individual track in it's correct location, and it asks me if I'd like to use the location to find the other missing files, it fails to correct the location of the rest. I am getting this message: “iTunes was able to find 1 of 18083 missing files.” Rather frustrating...
    I'm using iTunes 10, on OS 10.7.3
I have the correct iTunes media folder indicated in the advanced preferences tab.
In case it's relevant, I'm also syncing with a new iPhone 4s, which I've only had for about 3 weeks, though in terms of audio, I only sync recently added albums + podcasts.
And an additional odd behaviour that I noticed this morning was that in my iTunes Media folder, outside of the Music folder,   several artist folders had appeared, each containing an album folder and one or several songs from that album, the rest of which were all in their normal locations inside the Music folder, minus the tracks in the newly-appeared folders. All very odd.
    Thanks for any help,
    Emma

I have finally solved this issue.  Here is the solution:
    1. Open iTunes
    2. Select Music
    3. In the upper right hand corner select Albums.
    4. Under "All Albums" highlight the first album, then scroll all the way to the bottom of the page, hold down the shift key and select the last album.
    5. All albums should now be selected.
    6. Place the cursor over one of the albums. Press with 2 fingers on the trackpad to bring up the menu.
    7. Select "Check All"
    8. Congratulations - no more grayed out songs and they will sync now.
    9. Go into your iPhone sync and check the songs you want to transfer and click the sync button.
I hope this helps you to resolve your issue.

  • ITunes losing all music files imported since 6/2

I have a frustrating problem I can't seem to figure out. I am running iTunes 8.2 on Leopard 10.5.7 on an Intel iMac. I keep my music on an external hard drive connected by firewire 800.
The issue is that all of the new music I have added since 6/2 will not stay in the library. I will add the files which get synced to my iPhone and iPod without difficulty. At a certain point, when I go to sync, I will get the error message "The following songs could not be synced to the iPhone b/c they could not be found." This most recently occurred when I turned my computer on. These files are everything since that date. Nothing particular happened on 6/2. It's just that's the last album it has retained.
When I go to the library, all of the songs added since then have the dreaded ! next to them. The files are missing from my external hard drive, and from the back up of my external hard drive. They are not in the trash. Spotlight does not find them except for the copies in my emusic folder (which is fortunately where most of them came from so I don't have to re rip everything).
    I have tried:
    1. Reinstalling iTunes, including deleting some files from the library recommended in a different post (sorry do not remember which-- some plist files).
    2. Running Disk Utility to verify and repair the external volume.
    3. Reimporting the music and changing some metadata.
This has occurred with files I have ripped, purchased from the iTunes store, and imported from mp3s on my hard drive. It is incredibly annoying. Please help!
    2. Reimporting the songs

    Hey Georgia
The first link below will get you iTunes downloaded to your computer. Check your purchase history to download any previous purchase and the second article will assist with that. The final actable will assist with transferring any purchased content from your iPhone to your MacBook Air, anything that was not purchased will not transfer.

Since the last upgrade every few days when I put my Iphone into the docking cradle to recharge and get some podcasts it isn't recognized by ITunes. I take it out and put it back in. When it recognizes finally all the videos, photos and music are gone, leaving almost 2 gbs if "other" stuff. I did a restore last week and now the same issue ? Any ideas ?
