Adding iTunes playlist as separate file in iDVD

I am creating a DVD using video created in iMovie. In addition to the movie, I would like to include a separate file of the music (something like a soundtrack in the form of an iTunes playlist) that can be accessed through the main menu. I have not been able to find an answer in iDVD Help.
How about adding a folder of the photos that were used to make the movie/slideshow?
Can either of these be done?

You can add music files to the DVD-Rom section of the Dvd but you won't be able to access the files unless it's from a computer (since the dvd rom section isn't readable on most set top dvd players).
You can add audio to slideshows ie "Fit Slides to Audio" or you can add audio as a separate track within the video editing application (iMovie). However, iDvd wasn't really designed as a video editing app (apple leaves this function to apps like i-Movie, FCP, FCE, etc.)
Essentially, iDvd is to iMovie what the candy wrapper is to a chocolate bar. It's simply the exterior packaging of the movie you made in iMovie or FCP.
frankly I normally use a CD for all audio files (that or an iPod). But if you want to write audio files to a Dvd then consider an app like Roxio toast and make an audio disc.
An audio disc is a CD or DVD that contains audio files. Audio discs are meant to be played in a home or car stereo, in a set-top DVD player, and can also be used in a Macintosh or Windows computer.
or select from these types of audio disc
Types of Audio Discs:
Toast can create many kinds of audio discs - more than any other Mac burning software.
• Audio CD: This CD can be played in most home or car stereo CD players, set-top DVD players, and computers. This is similar to a standard commercial CD you can purchase in music stores. This is the best choice for playback in a CD player. See Making an Audio CD.
• Music DVD: This DVD can be played in a set-top DVD player or in a Macintosh or a Windows computer with a DVD player. A music DVD can contain over 50 hours of music and has full navigation menus for song selection. This is the best choice for playback in a DVD player. See Making a Music DVD.
• MP3 Disc: This CD or DVD can be played in home or car stereo MP3 disc players, some set-top DVD players, and most Macintosh and Windows computers. MP3 discs have longer playing times than audio CDs but their playback is less universal. See Making an MP3 Disc.
• Enhanced Audio CD: This CD can be played in a home or car stereo CD player. It contains additional data content, which is accessible in a Macintosh or Windows computer. See Making an Enhanced Audio CD.
• Mixed Mode CD: This CD can be played in a Macintosh or Windows computer. It offers playback compatibility with older CD-ROM players and is rarely used. Enhanced Audio CD is a better choice for this type of disc. See Making a Mixed Mode CD.

  • Adding iTunes playlist to a zumo 660 gps

How do you move an iTunes playlist to a zumo 660 gps

This is what I could come up with:
    1. In iTunes, highlight the Playlist, and then right-click "export" to a working folder of your choice as a ".m3u" file.
    2. Open the resultant ".m3u" file with Word or some other word processor.
    3. This is how one songs file entry would look:
#EXTINF:236,Angels We Have Heard on High - Trans-Siberian Orchestra
    F:\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Music\Trans-Siberian Orchestra\The Christmas Attic\08 Angels We Have Heard on High.mp3
    4. Change all "\" to the Tab Character (replace "\" with "^t")
    5. Convert all to a Table, 8 (must be "8" to match the number of file path references in this example) columns wide and be sure to select separate text at TAB marks
    6. Delete columns 2 through 7, leaving only column 1 and the "File Name.mp3" column
    7. Highlight column 1 and change all of the Drive Letter references to NULL (" replace X:" [X = Drive letter path name] with NULL character "").
    8. Convert the table back to text, using the Paragraph Mark as the separator.
    9. Highlight the entire document and change all double paragraph marks to the NULL character. (replace "^p^p" with ""). Be sure to go back and separate the first "#EXTM3U#EXTIN" with a Paragraph Mark, so that it reads "#EXTM3U" paragraph mark "#EXTIN....." or it won't register as a playlist on the Garmin.
    10. Save the file as ".txt" back to your original working folder.
    11. Delete the existing ".m3u" file.
    12. Rename the ".txt" file with a ".m3u" extension.
    13. Copy the file to the "mp3" location in your Garmin unit.
Seems like a lot of work when You can just buy an iPod and sync with one easy process.

  • Share iTunes playlists (and music files) on multiple devices and separate networks

I want to know how to share playlists between my devices (i.e., iphone, ipod, ipad) and another device (ipad, itouch, ipod) across networks. In other words, without the benefit of home share since the other device will not be on my home network.

    Hello AvalonFun,
Thank you for contacting Apple Support Communities.
The following article will give you some guidance on sharing your music:

  • Adding music files to iDVD project

    Hello All,
Sorry if this has been asked before... I didn't seem to find anything in my "search" of past posts...
A friend of mine recently passed away & I am (trying to) putting together a dvd to send to his brother that includes some home video of us ..... and I would like to include some music (files) from an old band he was in.... (he did a hme made cd)...
I'd like his songs to be in a separate folder and be able to select from them with the menu (like Toast sets up a "music dvd)...
All I have been able to figure to do is to include an iTunes playlist but that way one cannot jump from song to song... I even tried to do a seperate iMovie project with chapters for each song then export into iDVD & that (sort of) worked but I then couldn't figure out how to "combine" those "scenes" into my main project with the movies too...
Now I am going the looong way around and saving out individual clips of each song as full quality dv and then will try to add them into a folder in my main project....
My short question to all this long wind is:
is there a way to create a "slide show" of individual music files the same way that slide show of photos works... so that you can move around between them with the menu.... all I have found is that a play list can be added into the sound "well" but then you cna't skip from song to song like you can with a what Toast does when it sets up a music dvd
    any ideas?
thanks & regards to all for a great holiday
    from the coast of Maine
    -Larry

Well...I'm not sure if my suggestion or ideas will help, but you could certainly use iMovie to organize and edit the movie portion of your DVD, then for the music portion, first add your songs to iTunes, then go back to your iMovie project, select the songs you want to add to your DVD project, and drag each song into the timeline. Now, you can add chapter markers at the beginning of each song. This might not give you a separate folder to open (folders are for data DVDs), but at least your audience will be able to see each song title and skip through the songs as neededce they are chapters. Other than this, you might want to wander over to the Toast discussion forum on the Roxio.com site where users of Toast may have a suggestion. With Toast, you might be able to drag your video and audio portions of your project into Toast separately, that way you only have two chapters: Video and Audio.

  • I accidentally deleted the "Recently Added" default playlist from iTunes. Any way to recover and reinstall it?

I accidentally deleted the "Recently Added" default playlist from iTunes. Any way to recover and reinstall it?

    File > New Smart Playlist
Call it "Recently Added" and make the rule that date added is in the last 2 weeks (or your preference for "recent").

  • Automatically sync local files and iTunes playlists

Is it just me, or does Spotify not update playlists and local files from iTunes automatically as you add more tracks?
This is so annoying. I use iTunes to add and organize my local files, which Spotify is not able to do. But the least Spotify could do was to do a check up once in a while to see if i added new local tracks or changed my playlists in iTunes. As it is now i have to import playlists and local files everytime i add new music. So i first need to add it to iTunes and then again to Spotify. Toooo much work.

    Hey guys,
I am interested in the "Local File Refresh Button" functionality described initially in this post: http://community.spotify.com/t5/Spotify-Ideas/Local-File-Refresh-Button/idi-p/188652
I consider that having the "Local File Refresh Button" option would make a lot of users happy, is anyone else interested in this idea?
    Cheers !

  • Songs Don't Get Added Correctly To My Nano From My iTunes Playlists.

Some of the songs from my iTunes playlist don't get imported onto my Nano for some reason. I tried over and over--first deleting the playlist, then adding the playlist again to my Nano, but the same songs still don't get added correctly. They show up on the Nano's playlist, but when I try to play the song, it skips them!

The gray dot means the songs didn't get synced...
What's the provenance of the songs?
    What's the format/encoding/bitrate?
If you can’t load a song or other item onto iPod shuffle
The song might have been encoded in a format that iPod shuffle doesn’t support. The following audio file formats are supported by iPod shuffle. These include formats for audiobooks and podcasts:
    AAC (M4A, M4B, M4P) (up to 320 kbps)
    MP3 (up to 320 kbps)
    MP3 Variable Bit Rate (VBR)
    WAV
    AA (audible.com spoken word, formats 2, 3, and 4)
    AIFF

  • How can I import a movie into iMovie 09 from a hard drive?  The movie will open and play in idvd but breaks into separate files that can't be downloaded when I try to import.  Can it be done?

How can I import a movie into iMovie 09 from a hard drive?  The movie will open and play in idvd but breaks into separate files that can't be downloaded when I try to import.  Can it be done? I am trying to create a disc of player highlights for a collegiate coach, and I am using movie files downloaded to my hard drive from a DVD created on a PC.

No unfortunately it won't open in quicktime either.  It does the same thing that Imovie does, separates it into two file folders audio and video, and if i select video it opens to reveal 8 files that cannot be selected.  VIDEO_TS.BUP, VIDEO_TS.IFO, VIDEO_TS.VOB,VTS_01_0.BUP, VTS_01_0.IFO, VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VB, VTS_01_3.VOB.  All of which cannot be opened or selected.
Opening it in Idvd and folllowing your suggestion works and I get a format code of NTSC.  Is that the same?  Thank you for your time and response.

  • I recently lost my windows laptop due to a virus. I had backed up all files onto a drive(files only). However no itunes playlists. i have all my playlists on my iphone and pics etc however when im trying to sync to my new computer itunes deletes all data

I recently lost my windows laptop due to a virus. I had backed up all files onto a drive(files only). However no itunes playlists. i have all my playlists on my iphone and pics etc however when im trying to sync to my new computer itunes wants to  deletes all data off of my iphone so i click cancel
i want to update to iOS 5 and still have itunes be able to copy my playlists from my iphone. for free. why does apple provide a recovery from iphone option?

If you have a backup, restore the ENTIRE iTunes folder to the computer.  This restores the library and device association files.  If for some reason you chose to only back up the media and not the entire iTunes folder, then the only option is to let iTunes wipe the drive and re-sync.

  • In iTunes I accidentally deleted my "Recently Added" wheel playlist.  How do I get it back?

I was trying to clean up my playlists in iTunes and in doing so accidentally deleted my "Recently Added" wheel playlist.  I really want it back so I can see what I have recently added when I download or open things in iTunes.  Is there any way to get this wheel back?

Forget question.  Just saw solution elsewhere on this site.

  • ITunes Playlist Main file disappears!!!! Alarm

Since I updated to 7.6.1.(9), 2 times this wk when I opened iTunes, it gave me a message, about a problem with the playlist, and turns out that the file containing all the info, folders, playlists, play counts, etc., etc., got erased or corrupted, and I end up having to re-import my music, but now there is not grading, no play count etc., everything is lost.
I can add to the new playlist all the files, they are still there but it is very annoying to have to deal with this.
Does anybody know what is causing this???

I wish I could tell you why it happened, but I can tell you how to help prevent future issues. I have so much stuff and so many playlists that having to recreate them will take days if I have to start over. In your itunes folder on your home drive (regardless of where you keep your music) back up the itunes library document (has the little note on it) and the itunes library xml document (has a text icon). Replacing these in the event of corruption will restore your settings. They're small in size, about 10-20 mb total.
Good luck with the fix--hope someone else can help!

  • Trying to transfer MP3 download files to ITunes playlist.  Simplest way?

I am trying to transfer mp3 files from downloads to a playlist in iTunes.  What is the most simple way?

Create playlist.  Drag files from Finder window to the playlist.
Another poster on this forum says you can drag a folder of files to the playlists header in the sidebar and it will create a playlist with that folder name and content.  Somebody else tried it when I told them abut this and said it didn't work, so I don't know.  I use a 9 year old version of iTunes so I can't test it for you.

Older Zens don't support AAC, which is the format iTunes uses for songs.
You can convert from AAC to MP3, which every media player under the sun will play.  Here's a tutorial: http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-12519_7-10096807-49.html
