Adding iweb site to existing site

Apologies for being a complete luddite when it comes to this. I need to jazz up an existing web site. Can I just create a link there to my iweb site? Am I right in assuming there are no hosting fees for iweb? I presume the new site can be as expansive as I wish? Thanks guys.

Am I right in assuming there are no hosting fees for iweb?
iWeb is an app on your machine for creating web pages. Hosting fees are only relevant when you want to put the pages created onto a host, which can be anything from free to expensive, but they have no connection with iWeb as such.

  • Moving existing Blogger blog into iWeb site

I have an existing web site and am recreating it using iWeb
This includes a blog of some years which is created via Blogger.
Can I import my blogger blog (or the code from it) into an iWeb page so that it has the same look and feel?
I'd also wnat to ensure that whenever I publish changes to the iWeb site that it does not overwrite the Blogger Blog page - is this possible?

Keith ~ iWeb doesn't have an import capability. And even if it did, I would recommend you stick with Blogger — that way you'll avoid recurring problems such as these:
Changed theme on main blog page, lost all entries
Lost two years of blog comments
...iWeb's blog is simply not a robust one — see the following thread started by a concerned person which has a satisfactory ending with a non-iWeb blog:

  • Adding files to iWeb site using .mac

    Hi
Apologies if this has been answered before but I would like to achieve the following:
I have an iWeb site published to a .mac account. I would like to add links to other files such as m3u or qtl playlists and host the mp3/mov files somewhere else in my .mac account. I have read a little about using the idisk feature to achieve this. What's the best way of proceeding?

which means you have to put any file or folder linked to in this way inside iDisk>Web>Sites??
    That's correct.
Presumably that means when you publish any updates out of iWeb it leaves these files/folders alone and only updates what it needs to?
You can create folders as you like.
Just make sure you do not add a Site in iWeb with the same name as your folder. iWeb will overwrite that folder. Try it.
And do not add an index.html file of your own in the root of the Server. I have a custom index.html file. So any time I publish a Site in iWeb (by mistake) I have to make sure I replace the index.html file by iWeb with the file of my own.
But I do a lot of things I'm not supposed to do.

  • Linking another URL to an existing iWeb site?

Is it possible to link another URL that I have registered (with GoDaddy) so that it connects directly with the URL associated with my iWeb site?
Thanks so much for any advice.

Use masked web forwarding and forward your domain name to web.me.com/username/sitename.
If you have used CNAME forwarding once, then you need to use web forwarding for your other domain name.

  • Connect to existing iWeb site

OK, messed up my laptop and re-installed everything, then realized I hadn't backed up my iWeb site. So it is on the .Mac server, but my iWeb doesn't know it. How to get it reconnected (iLive v6 version of iWeb)

Have a look at the following page
    http://retrieve.iwebfaq.org
in addition to that you could work with hyperlinks linking from iWeb to the preserved copy on server of your old page.

it is not possible at all. iCloud has no Gallery, no Website and lacks also lots of other features of MobileMe.
Refer to what has already posted here to find alternatives. iWeb however will continue to work in Lion, so it is not a program issue. You just need to find some ftp hoster that you can use with iWeb.

  • Can I merge an iWeb site into a regular site?

I have an existing site which was not made with iWeb. I've wanted to update it so I decided to use iWeb 08. I'm a bit concerned that when I publish the iWeb site into my old site that things will be written over. Will this be the case? I have a lot of other programs on my old site like php and mysql based things and I can't have those be over-written.
    Thanks,
    Tom

Thanks for the help. Here's the latest, I changed my Site name to Documents, so that it would match my webserver's information. (I changed my current Documents folder to Documents-bak so I wouldn't destroy it.) I published the new Documents iWeb along with some changes. After publishing, I took a folder with some pdfs in it from my backup and manually copied it to the new Documents folder. Checked the website and everything worked. Then I went back to iWeb, added a new Album, the published it. The folder I copied over was gone....poof!
This leads me to think I should have a splash page under my webserver root directory (/Documents/index.html) that links to /Documents/Site/index.html (with Site being my iWeb site) and leaving all the other items under /Documents. This would prevent the deletion of files that don't relate to iWeb since it is in a different directory.
Sorry if I'm being confusing, for the last 15 years I've built sites with things like Frontpage, Dreamweaver and other programs where I didn't have to worry about this stuff. I love iWeb because the site I'm talking about is my personal site with kids' pictures and it's pretty easy to use.
Question, say I add an album to my iWeb. Do I need to republish the WHOLE site again? I can't find a way to just publish changes rather than the whole site.
    Thanks - Tom

  • Still having problems forwarding a domain name to my iWeb site

I'm still having some issues linking another domain name I own to my existing iWeb site. I forwarded the other domain through my GoDaddy account, but when I try it with www in front of the forwarding name, it directs me to my MobileMe home page. Without typing in the www, the forwarding works just fine.
I must be doing something wrong, but not sure where to adjust things.
    Thanks,
    Steve Pressman

    Steve,
It sounds like your CNAME may not be set up properly. You'll want to make sure your CNAME www is forwarding to @ which will be the host where the domain is forwarding currently without the www. Here is a link with some instructions (see the section on "Adding or Editing CNAME Records": http://x.co/RBCW

  • Want to publish an old iWeb site - struggling!

Hi, hope someone can help me out.
Approx 5 years ago, I created a website for a mate in iWeb and published it using an old .Mac account. I've since changed Macs and while the website design remains, .Mac is now Mobile Me and my mate has lost the log in details. The account is still live as my mate had the Mobile Me annual fee deducted from their account only recently.
To make matters worse, we registered a domain name and pointed it to the .Mac created domain. However, my mate failed to renew the domain and so there's no way of us seeing the website.
Finally, the email address registered to the .Mac address is now also defunct.
We've now bought the same domain name back and want to publish the iWeb site to that domain, but with no Mobile Me details I'm wondering what the solution is. Any thoughts?
    Cheers in advance

You will have to recreate the web site from scratch since you don't have the domain file that was used by iWeb to create the site in the first place. Chapter 2.3 on the iWeb FAQ.org site has tips on using some of the existing files, image, audio, video, etc., from the published site in the recreation of the site.
As for the domain name once you have your site created and published you can forward it to the new site.  You can obtain an account on a 3rd party web hosting server like HostExcellence.com and publish you site there.
However, if you have a blog or one of the items listed below they will not be supported on a 3rd party server:
Features Unavailable When Publishing to a Non-Mac Server:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    From iWeb 3's Help
Many 3rd party servers do support php which will allow you to protect pages or the entire site.  3rd party hit counters which offer much more than just the number of visitors can be added. And you can use a 3rd party blogging service to create your blog and embed its page into one of your iWeb pages with an HTML snippet and iframe code.

I did manage to save a lot of user file documents but I don't see or
recognize the iWeb site file. It was on a 15" G4 Titanium pb.
I'm trying to find a way, using version 2.0.4 of iWeb on a different
pb to recover the file into the iWeb app or a way to download the site into iWeb.
There are 6 pages of images and text, and it
would be a task for me to recreate the whole thing again. I did
download the site but I don't know how or if I can get iWeb to see it and open it.
Does anyone have any knowledge about this? The link to my site:

Unfortunately iWeb cannot read or import previously published files, only generate them.  You'll have to recreate your site from scratch.
However, Chapter 2.3 on the iWeb FAQ.org site has tips on using some of the existing files, image, audio, video, etc., from the published site in the recreation of the site.

  • How do you hyperlink a rollover to another page from within your iweb site?

Ive made a bunch of rollovers for my iweb navigation bar. If youve created a rollover you know you have to link the images to a image hosting site. here as you would just normally drag and drop a image from your desk top. Because of the way iweb works, if you are using images from a image hosting sit, you can no longer adjust the characteristics of the images i.e. colors, size, and in this case the hyperlink. More specifically you cant change the hyperlink to a page within the iweb site.
So the problem im trying to figure out is how to link the rollover to a page within my iweb site.
now you can actually change the hyperlink of the rollover. however you must do this by adjusting the html within the snippet of the rollover. The problem i found is that iweb doesnt creat sub domains for each page. a entire iweb site with multible pages uses only one domain which is the homepage. so i cant just type a subdomain of another page into the snippet hyperlink because the subdomain doesnt exist.
here is the link to my site. youll notice i did figure out a work around with the "contact us" button but its a huge pain in the butt. i had to create a new domain and a new site then attach the referal index.html to that new domain. todo this for every single button is very difficult.
    http://springgardenranch.tk
so i guess the bigger question is, is there a easier way to do this?
perhaps if there was a way to create a subdomains like springgardenranch.tk/contactus withing iweb for each page. but i dont even know if thats possible.
    thanks for you help.

Because of the way iweb works, if you are using images from a image hosting sit, you can no longer adjust the characteristics of the images i.e. colors, size, and in this case the hyperlink.
Then use  your own images. Then you can create them the way you want.
    Here's how I do it :
    http://cafenoir.atspace.com/Hover/
And here's the menu in an iWeb page :
    http://cafenoir.atspace.com/HNBF/
And here you can learn how to do it. Follow the links to the How-To pages.
    http://cafenoir.atspace.com/
You may have to learn HTML. CSS, JavaScript, AJAX, DOM and how iweb creates its webpages.

  • Merge iweb sites from multiple user accounts on same computer

With the previous iweb version, my children created their own iweb sites on their own users, but all under my own .mac account. It worked great.
But now with the new "upgraded" iweb '08, that isn't allowed anymore.
So, I created a new user on our computer for all of us to use to maintain our multiple iweb accounts on.
How can I move multiple iweb sites from multiple users on the same computer into one user?

Each of the user's work in iWeb will be contained in a single file, Domain.sites2, which can be found in this location on the hard drive for each user account. You will need to copy all of these Domain.sites2 files to an external drive, or, at the very least, burn them to a disk to make them transferable from one user account to another. A flash drive also works great for this.
Once you have made all of these Domain files accessible from the new user account that you created, you will still have a formidable task ahead of you, i.e., publishing separate sites, from separate Domain.sites2 files, to the same .Mac account/directory. In other words, bringing all of these Domain files together for access by a single user account will not solve the problem. You may very well be able to solve the problem with things the way they are, but it will involve some shuffling of Site's files on the iDisk prior to publishing.
The method I'm going to give you has worked well for me. So far, here in the forums, I've read posts from (2) other users who were also successful. Conversely, I know of at least (3) other users who have been unsuccessful with this approach. I sure hope it works for you.
Open System Preferences and go to .Mac. Turn syncing off, if it is on, and leave it off.
Now, in Finder, navigate to the current Site files on your iDisk, following this path:
    Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites/NameOfSiteFolder
Drag the Site folder that is named for your site, (not the directory Site folder), back one level on the iDisk, into the Web folder. This is where some run into difficulties--you may get an error message that the folder is "in use, and cannot be moved". I have never gotten this message, and am able to move my Site's folders around with no problem on the iDisk.
If you are successful moving the folder, choose one of your other accounts on your machine, launch iWeb, and Publish all to .Mac. The existing site on the server will not be deleted. Now, go back to the iDisk and move that site folder, (the one you just published), back one level, again, to the root Web directory. Publish your next site, from your next account.
When you are finished publishing sites, just move the Site folders back to their original location on the iDisk--Web/Sites/SiteFoldersHere. All sites will be accessible from a browser using the web.mac.com/username/nameofsite url.
It is important to use the Publish all to .Mac command in iWeb. A simple Publish to .Mac command will not put the correct index.html file in place on the server.
Post back and inform us of your success.
    -Mark
