Adding jam packs and loops

Hello everyone. This post may have been answered. Anyway, I have installed all jam packs and sound content on external drive. I was wondering how to index them so i can access them in logic pro as loops. It seems that some are there and some are not. Thank you for reply.
David

1. How do I install everything...
run the installer and when the Customize button appears, click it. use the discloser triangle next to GB to make sure it's ancillary files are selected for installation
2. Is there a list of all available Jam Packs?

3. Do Jam Packs work with GB 08 and 09?
yes
4. Does only Apple make Jam Packs? If not, where to go for others?
yes, but may other companies make loops that are Mac compatible. there are also loops available freely on the net, as well as synths and SoundFonts (instruments):

  • Final Cut Studio 2 Apple Loops, Jam Packs and Logic express 8 installation?

    Hi(Bonjour)!
I've currently use Final Cut Studio 2 +Soundtrack Pro 2.0.2+ application with all included Apple Loops.
I own several Jam Pack Apple Loops packages (with a less than impressive integration with Garage Band for older one).
I purchased Logic Express 8 pro today.
Is there more Apple Loops files included with Logic express 8 than with Soundtrack Pro 2?
What is the best way to install Logic express 8 Apple Loops to avoid duplicate loops files?
    Thank You.
    Michel Boissonneault

Well, the installation was very simple, no duplicate files and tight integration of GarageBand loops and JamPacks.

  • Jam Packs and "Garageband Instruments" when reinstalling Logic?

What's the proper procedure when it comes to Jam Packs and 3rd party Apple Loops libraries when reinstalling Logic and OS X?
I'm keeping my Apple Loops on a separate drive and know that I can just drag them to the Loop Browser after reinstalling Logic. However, by doing so, I don't think I'll be getting the "Garageband Instruments" that are installed with the Jam Packs and some 3rd party Apple Loops libraries. Is that correct? If so, what's the best way to deal with this? Always installing all Apple Loops from the disks or perhaps saving a folder (which one?) with the Garageband Instruments before re-installing OS X?
When I last installed Logic, and told the installer to install the Jam Packs on an external drive, they were still installed on the system drive! Does anyone know why? Now what's the best way to move the Apple Loops? What I've done in the past is installing them to their default location, and then creating an alias in Home:Library:Audio:Apple Loops folder that points to the new location on the external drive. Is that the way to go or is another way better?
Any input or help would be greatly appreciated.

Jam packs consist of two types of content. Loop content will go to where you choose to install it (an external drive if you wish). Instrument content has to go to the GB library, for a number of reasons, and the GB library will be on your system disk under Application Support/Garageband.
So backup your GB library in addition to your Logic related stuff.
It is possible to move much (but not all) of the heavy Instrument content to an external drive too, but there are gotchas with this.

  • Forgot to load jam packs and now it wont let me

i realized that i messed up during the finishing up process. i tried to go back and install just the jam packs and it would not let me do it. i also tried to just load directly from dvd to my external harddrive and each one says to use the install disks. i then tried to trash all files,at least what i thought were the right files, but it still acted like there was logic 8 on there. i then put everything back and all is working fine except that i do not have all 39GB's of sound that comes with it. 15yr. user and a rookie mistake
thanks in advance for any help.

  • How do you add Jam Packs to the Logic Express 8 Loop Library?

I'm new to both Logic Express and Jam Packs. I just installed the new Voices Jam Pack and it is installed in the audio folder in my user library but it isn't recognized by logic, since the loops don't show up in the loop browser. I do not know how to add them to my loop library so if anybody knows how to add them I would greatly appreciate any advice. Also, when I installed logic express, my garageband loop library disappeared; is this just because all the loops were converted to a new format for logic to use?

Simply drag & drop your Voices Jam Pack folder into the LE8 loops browser and they will be indexed and added to the library. See page 644 in the manual for more information.
Re: GarageBand loops, you can check your HD/Library/Audio and your ~/Libray/Audio for all your Apple loops to make sure you still have your GB loops in either .aif or .caf formats. I still have both versions on my iMac, but if I remember correctly, when I installed LE8 I created a new folder for Apple loops in order to preserve my originals. Once you find your GB loops, try dragging & dropping them into GB's loop browser. If their format was changed perhaps GB just needs you to point to them.

  • Find Remix Jam Pack loops not labeled by Genre in loop browser?

I've got all four Apple Jam Packs installed.
The World and Symphony jam packs are great, as I can locate the loops in the loop browser by Genre.
But the Rhythym and Remix jam packs don't seem to be labeled by Genre.
How can I identify them? There are way too many to just look and see what seems to be new or find them by trial and error.
Even the EXS24 instruments had to be moved to separate folders by hand to separate them from the other Garage Band instruments (but I could separate them from the others by date, so I figured out a way).
Frustrating to have installed a new product, and be unable to find it!

    Hi Les,
I haven't used the loop browser much in Logic, but I know that it is very similar to the one in Garageband. If it's pretty much the same browser, then there will be a way to filter your search by "packages." For example, you can select the Remix jam pack and select loops just from it's collection.
I'm not on my Logic computer, so I'll test this later...

  • Can I use my old Garageband Jam Packs with Logic Pro X?

I'm in the process of moving all of my Logic X Library content to an external hard drive and it occurred to me that I still have 4 GarageBand Jam Packs that I might be able to use in Logic X. Does anyone know if there is any real difference in the loop content of the Jam Packs and the loops that are on Logic X ? Has anyone tried this and made any kind of comparison? Just wondering. Thanks.

When you download all the additional content from within Logic Pro X.. any jam packs you are missing are then installed during that process... but if you already have them all installed the LPX additional content installer will find them and set them up for use in LPX.
The content of the Jam packs are identical....

  • Jam Pack Help

My computer finally died on me so I decided to get a new imac today. Bad news is that I am about ready to throw it through a window because even though I had the Jam Packs backed up on an external hard drive, I am having several issues. I can see that I have the .aif files now onto my new computer from a couple of the jam packs, and I've even moved those files over to the apple loops folder where all the rest of the pre loaded loops are, yet they do not show up as usable in Garageband, nor do I see any of the virtual instruments. I'm also getting the issue I've seen others have where some of the jam packs are not compatible w/ Lion. I saw there is a work around, but the problem is that I do not have the original discs and only have the files from my external hard drive and am getting the "you can't open the application packagebuddy because power pc applications are no longer supported" message. So this is causing me a lot of **** because I've transfered over some .band files from my hard drive, but without the same loops and software instruments I used before, my projects are a mess.  Any ideas?  I also saw something about an app called Main Stage that supposedly has all the Jam Pack content. Is this true?

Any ideas?  I also saw something about an app called Main Stage that supposedly has all the Jam Pack content. Is this true?
That is true. If you buy MainStage 2, it will install all of the JamPacks, and you will be able to use the loops and instruments from Logic and GarageBand. An the price of MainStage is much less than the price for one single of the JamPack - in Europe 23,99 €, that is roughly 30 $US.
To buy MainStage would be the easiest solution.
To restore the older JamPacks from your backup, you need to
install the loops in /Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple/Apple Loops for GarageBand/
    and the instruments in /Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Instrument Library/
Also you need to reindex your Loops, see: Rebuilding the Loop Index in GarageBand

  • Need Help controlling Garageband Jam Pack File Sizes

I recently purchased all of the Jam Packs, and would love to make use of them with both Garageband and Logic Pro. The problem is the HUGE amount of space HD space they demand. I've researched these forums, and read about the plan of installing the Jam Packs, moving the Apple Loops to an External HD, and then cleaning out the Apple Loops Library & Index files on my main HD. The problem is, once I did this (testing it with just the World Jam Pack), I STILL lost over 10 GB's of HD space, compared to what I had before the initial Jam Pack instillation! What's taken up all of this space, and how do I get my space back? CAN I put the Jam Packs on an external drive, or not? Thanks in advance!

I don't think there's 10 gig worth, but the Jam Packs install instruments as well. Leave those where they are.

  • A question about Jam Pack language

    Hi there,
This may be a silly question, but I figure I had better ask it, because when a software package is opened, you own it, right?
I live in Germany, and I was in the local Mac dealer's, looking at the Jam Packs. I want the Symphony Orchestra pack, but was told that the version they had on hand in the shop was only in German. As my OS is in English (as is my version of Logic Express) will my computer have any problem reading and categorizing the Audio Instruments and loops if they are auf Deutsch? I don't want to open up the pack only to find that the Loop Browser can't categorize the instruments/loops, and then not get my money back.
OTOH, a large-ish online music store here in Germany sells the Jam Packs, and gives the same product number on their German and English pages for the same item. This makes me wonder whether or not the Jam Pack will install in the language of one's OS, and that only the documentation is only in German.
Does anyone have any experience with this issue?
    Many Thanks!
    Vielen Dank!
    Glenn

The pianos do sound very nice, although I can't justify €250.00 on that right now. I still need to get a RME FF400, and a FW HDD.
Oh, and probably EZ Drummer, as well, unless someone has had an ugly experience with it.
Oh, and Logic Pro down the road, too.
I keep telling my wife that 'this is the last thing for a while, I promise!'
Something tells me that I had better keep that promise...
    Cheers,
    Glenn

  • Jam Pack Sound Quality

    Hi Guys
I am just getting into expanding my sound library .my major area of work involves lounge and remix . I am planning to buy the Jam Pack Remix tools . Is any one using them or heard them .Please let me know
Also how do i visually see a track that is muted in the arrange window also being muted in the mix window
    Thanks
    Regards

Sounds are matter of taste - depends what you like. I have all the Jam Packs and they are excellent value for the price, well played and well recorded loops and some fine sounding instruments.
If you have a chance, check out the remix tools before buying to see if you like the stuff.
If you are muting the whole track you can of course see it from the mute button. You could also set up a screenset where you can see the arrange window in addition to the mixer.

  • Jam Packs on more than one computer

This may a dumb question, but I don't remember haveing to enter any sort of Software License ID# or anything, which leads me to believe that I can buy one Jam Pack and install it on as many machines as I want? If I am want to get rid of them, and then give my old Jam Packs to someone else, they shouldn't have any issues installing them on their machine correct?

Correcto. I got the symphony pack on ebay used and had no problems. I'm going to selling all of mine for funds to upgrade Logic. No codes, except to register, and I haven't seen any benefits of registering with any of my J packs.

  • How to modify the drum sounds in Jam Pack?

Hi Folks, I know this is a newbie question but what I'm reading is over my head. I have the Rhythm Section/Jam Pack and I want to be able to adjust the drum sounds individually. I know it talks about a midi keyboard controller but that's where i lose it. I am playing Roland TD-6 Drums, via MIDI/USB interface to my Mac. Can anyone give me some direction for a MIDI idiot? Thanks much!

Hey Guys, Thanks for the replies, sorry for my delay.
To explain further, what I mean is, with the help of "HangTime" I can play my Roland drums into my Mac and get them to work as a software instrument in GB. Now, I'd like to be able to adjust the sounds: for instance, change the volume of the high hat only, lower the pitch of the first tom only. The following line is in the "Rhythmsection" documentation:
"In addition, you can modify the sound of each drum kit in real time using keyboard controllers, including the modulation (mod) wheel and pitch bend wheel."
I guess what I'm saying is the above statement is currently way beyond my skillset and I was hoping for some simplified direction.
Hope that helps and thank you reading.
    Jim
