Adding keywords to MANY pictures with Bridge CS3?

Hi there,
I am adding keywords to over 10,000 pictures using Bridge CS3.
I'm copying the keywords from their respective sites and pasting them into the metadata fields in Bridge. (Also adding others if they are not included.) I'm also changing them to all lowercase in InDesign so they are not repeated/duplicated. (i.e. "People" and "people".)
There are many folders and sub-folders but they are all under one main folder.
Two questions:
1) Anyone know of a easier way to do this?
2) Is there a way to make the ("People" and "people") problem go away?
Mac OS X 10.5.5 Bridge CS3 2.1.1.9
Thanks.

Thanks again Jim
This was not the answer I wanted to hear. So I contacted Adobe directly- They are very quick- they responded within 24 hours via email of course and reiterated what you said- I guess I just needed "official" word from Adobe, before I went to plan B
Anyways If anyone ever has problems like this where you got a bunch of .m1v files and you need to tag them with metadata- I suggest to do what I am doing and download tmpegenc it is a great little piece of software that will convert your .m1v files to .mpg files that you can now tag within bridge, Beauty
I will NEVER export to .m1v AGAIN
Thanks TMPEG
Thanks Jim and Thanks Adobe

I would like to see the added keywords under the picture like iPhoto does it. Is that possible? I cannot find an answer in Aperture 3.2.1

Hello Wontolla, I meant the Aperture main menu, there is a sub menu "View", see the Screenshot:
Set all flags in the Metadata Display submenu as I did,  to show Metadata in Viewer and Browser, and then select "Customize"
Pick the Metadata fields you want to display for all views.
Make sure, that "Contents -> Keywords" is checked.

  • Will ACR 5.6 RC work with Bridge CS3

I have gotten the RC to install for Elements  6.0 on OS X.  Bridge CS3 however either displays very fuzzy previews if you use thumbnails generated from 5.5 or if you purge the cache, will not display any thumbnails for .CR2 files created with a 7D or ARW files created with a Sony A100.
Is it supposed to work with Bridge CS3 or are we going to have to upgrade to Elements 8 to have it work with 5.6?

Well, I guess it is a good thing I have already ordered Elements 8 which I think includes Bridge CS4.

  • Keyword selection function in Adobe Bridge CS3

    Hello,
Does anybody know if and how I can change the "selection criteria" of keywords in Adobe Bridge CS3?
-> selection criteria: If I want to use the filter with the keywords, it selects the images which include any of the selected keywords (OR-function), but I would like to select only those images which have all of the selected keywords(AND-function).
Example: In a holiday folder named "italy", I want to see all pictures with the keywords "beach" and "me". What I get are all the "beach" images and all the "me" images. How can I change this?
Would be great if someone could help me...!
    Thanks!

In the Find box the Match drop down has 2 options. "If all criteria is met" is like "and" while "if any criteria met" is like "or" logic.

  • Adding metadata to .m1v files in Bridge CS3

I have video files (no audio) .m1v files that I need to tag with Metadata in bridge. One problem when I try to do this in Bridge CS3 version 2.1.1.9- I get an error message saying
"The file "filename.m1v" cannot store XMP metadata. No changes will occur"
Does anyone know of a workaround to this problem
2 solutions I have already considered are to
    1. rename the files to .mpg, but there are many files and I do not want to corrupt any of them
    2. Don't export to .m1v files- instead use .mpg ALWAYS- (export silent audio track)
So anyone? any other ideas of what can be done
    Thanks

  • Problems with Bridge CS3 crash freeze and burn

    Hi,
    I am running Bridge CS3 version 2.1. 100 on a MacBook Pro 3
    Intel Core Duo
    2.4 GHz, 2GB ram
I am having some serious Bridge issues. My problems have ranged from it just being very sluggish and slow to Bridge not applying a label to random crashes.
So far today here are the issues:
"Operation Cannot be completed, an unknown OS error has occurred"
    "EventHandler:2976"
Will not apply a label when using the command key or from the tool bar menu
Not responding when quitting from icon in the dock
    freezes when renaming a file
unexpectedly quit while cropping an image in PS CS3
Things I have tried to resolve this:
shift-alt-command and reset all preferences and purged cache
changing the thumbnails preferences to only process 50mb or smaller files
    create small thumbnails
(as a former pc user) I have restarted multiple times...
    Things I have not tried:
    rebuilding OS
    uninstall reinstall
    throwing laptop in bathtub
The files I am working on range in size from 4 mb up to 400 mb .psd files
    Any ideas?

I can't use Bridge CS3 anymore. It freezes on my screen and the only way to close it is with task manager. Had problems with it the first time I loaded it...a full version of CS3, no upgrade. Spoke with 2 Adobe technicians who tried to help, but being a believer in Murphy's Laws I decided to bypass their suggestions which I had already tried.
The best viewer alternatives to Bridge are:
-Fast Stone Image Viewer is shareware and handles .psd files along with RAW, TIFF, JPG, etc. Go to their site an look for yourself. It was so good I sent them the suggested contribution. Adobe could learn a lot from them.
-Use Adobe Lightroom as a viewer and to do preliminary editing before launching the file into CS3. Adobe got it right in Lightroom...how come not in bridge CS3?
-Nikon View NX is good but doesn't show .psd files.
Nikon's Capture NX is a reasonable alternative to CS3 if you get fed up with Adobe. Or go back to PS Elements!
Finally, some lecturing Photoshop gurus have called Bridge "JUNK...you get what you pay for." Correct.
Benefits of JUNK sofware is that you explore alternatives and can be surprised at what's available out there.
Conclusion: Bridge CS3 is meant to be a "bridge" to many PS products, but for me it's a "bridge to nowhere." Make it simple, guys.

  • Opening RAW files with Bridge CS3

When I try to open a RAW file from Bridge CS3 it defaults to Mac Preview and does not open Photoshop Elements 6 RAW converter.  If I open a RAW file outside of Bridge it work fine.  What did I do wrong??   Using a iBook G4 with OS 10.5.8 and Photoshop Elements 6 and new Camera RAW plugin for my Panasonic LX3 camera.  hjz62

Bridge requires the latest version of Adobe Camera Raw to be installed.  http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4581 Adobe states that this is the latest version of camera raw compatible with PSE-6 Mac. Others may have additional information.
As to the issue of defaulting to Apple software, this issue is usually a configuration problem wherein certain file extensions are granted permissin to be summarily opened by a given program. ((Right clicking any given file, then choosing "open with", and selecting a given program  is a work around, but to avoid this step, you need to reconfigure your program settings.)) This is the Windows file path/solution, I am not familiar with Mac. I am confident that the issus is the same

  • Weight factors in a many-to-many relationship with bridge table

Hi, I have the same N:N relationship schema of this link:
    http://www.rittmanmead.com/2008/08/28/the-mystery-of-obiee-bridge-tables/
In my bridge table I have a weight factor for every couple (admission, diagnosis). If I aggregate and query in Answers these columns:
    DIAGNOSIS | ADMISSIONS_COSTS
every single diagnosis has the sum of the WHOLE Admission_cost it refers to, not its contribute to it (for example 0.30 as weight factor). The result is an ADMISSION_COSTS sum larger than the ADMISSION_COSTS sum in the lowest detail level, because it sums many times the same cost.
How could I use my weight factor and calculate the right diagnosis contribute to its admission? In BI Admin I tried to build a calculated LogicalColumn based on Physical column, but in the expression builder I can select only the ADMISSION_COST measure physical column, and it doesn't let me pick the weight factor from the bridge table.
    Thanks in advance!

I'm developing a CS degree project with 2 professors, Matteo Golfarelli and Stefano Rizzi, who have developed the Dimensional Fact Model for data warehouses and wrote many books about it.
They followed the Kimball theory about N:N and used its bridge table concept, so when I said them that in OBIEE there is this definition they were very happy.
But they stopped this happiness when I said that bridge tables only connect fact tables to dimension tables, and to create N:N between levels at higher aggregation we should use logical joins as you said in your blog. I need to extract metadata concepts from UDML exportation language, and about N:N I can do it only with bridge table analysis, I can't extract and identify a N:N level relationship from a multiple join schema as in your blog... this is the limit of your solution for our project, only this!
PS: sorry for my english, I'm italian!
    thanks for the replies!

  • Rating and adding keywords to several pictures

    Hi,
Aperture manual says that all I need to do is to select the pictures I want to rate or add keywords to and then choose a rating or keyword and it will be added to all at once. This is not working for me, I only get the keyword and the rating for the first picture I chose. Any tips?
    Thanks for help!
    -Tuomas

    1) Ensure you don't have "primary only" checked.
    2) Verify that it works with ratings.
    3) If it works with ratings, and not with keywords, you're using one of the methods of keywording that Aperture won't apply keywords to multiple photos. There are 3 or 4 ways of keyboarding a photo… ensure you're using one that can multi-apply.

  • How to change keyword in many pictures at the same time?

I gave a big series of pictures the wrong keywords. Now, I can't figure out how to change them (besides one by one...).
If I select e.g. 10 pictures in Library-mode, how to change keywords on them all at the same time?

Make sure you are in Grid View, primary monitor (if you have two), select 10 pictures and type (or delete) the keywords in the Keywording panel in the left upper corner.
Make sure the Metadata->Show Metadata for Target Photo Only is unchecked in the menus. Otherwise your edits will only apply to the primary selected (most selected) image.

  • HELP! - adding keywords to multiple images in Bridge

I have about 2000 images that a client wants multiple people to add keywords to.  Is there a way to export thumbnails and keywording fields to excel and reimport when the keywords have been added?  Photos are of different locations and need to be emailed to those locations.  I am trying to streamline this...any suggestions?

One is to extract the data to a CSV file the other is to import data from a csv or tab delimited file.

  • Can't move or rename files on outboard hard drive with bridge cs3

I have a new computer operating with
vista 64 bit os and an outboard drive with my pic
tures.  Bridge says I don't have permission to move or rename the files but I can open the
m and copy them.  I have to go into windows
to physically delete or move files.

It is a permissioning thing with Windows on external drives, that and speed, are reasons internals are much prefered.  I have found that if I right click on the Bridge start icon and chooose "run as administrator" it will work.
I know this sounds strange on a single use machine where you have administrative rights, but just what I found that worked for me.

  • Unable to delete pictures in Bridge CS3

Just started having this problem.  When I go to delete or drag a photo to the trash, I get this message "The Camera Raw settings could not be applied because there were no Camera Raw files selected".  Also, other pics will not be deleted, but I don't get this message.   Please help!  Thanks.

You've found your way into the wrong forum. You want the Bridge forum a couple doors down to the right.

  • Adding a prefix to filename in Bridge / CS3

I need to batch-add a prefix only to existing filenames in Bridge, e.g. 15447.dng to become AR_15447.dng etc. I can't see how to place the prefix correctly in front of the filename - does anyone know?
    Thanks,
    Alex Ramsay

Yes, of course. Problem is, it adds the prefix after the filename (i.e. 15447AR_.dng). I can't see how to put the prefix at the front.
