Adding keywords to multiple photos

Any idea how to make this work better? I know it's possible in the "keywords" window but that's not very usable when you have 700 different keywords. I really miss the Keyword Assistant...

Check out Keyword Manager. It's a big step up an keyword assistant and they are working on updating it for v7 right now.

  • Iphoto 08 adding keywords to multiple photos

I am trying to add the same key word to to multiple photos. In the past version, I would just click, select, click to select multiple photos. Then right click and it would bring up the picklist of keywords and I would simply select the keywords to put on that whole group of photos. I have tried to do this in iPhoto 08 but the keywords are no longer in the photo info window.
I can't even find a way to view the picklist. I only see the keywords which show up in each sinlgle picture when I click add keyword to a single picture then put in a few letters.
There has to be a better way, but I'm stumped.

    MattTorg
Menu Bar -> Window -> Show Keywords
Select the pics and click on the keyword.
If you want to apply sets of keywords, you can drag them to the top of the keyword pane, and apply multiple keyword to Pic(s).
If you have a lot of Keywords, check out Keyword Manager

  • Adding keywords to multiple photos has stopped working

All day I've been importing photos and adding keywords to them.  I add some keywords to all photos during the import, then after importing I go through each photo and add additional keywords as needed.  It worked fine all day, but all of a sudden when I highlight several photos and add keywords, it's only applying the new keywords to the last picture highlighted.  I've closed the program (LR5) and reopened it, but that didn't help. What have I done wrong?
    Thanks

Thank God for this forum!  :-)  Everyone is so helpful!  (btw, as I read your response "d'oh" came out of my mouth.
    Thank you.

  • Problem Applying Keywords to Multiple Photos

Under Aperture 2.1.4 and OSX 10.6, I've apparently lost the ability to apply a keyword to multiple photos at one time. When I click the keyword or drag it, only one photo gets the keyword regardless of how many are selected.
I only noticed this shortly after upgrading, so I've assumed it was related to 2.1.4 or 10.6. Hidden preference somewhere? Something else obvious?
    Any ideas?

Look for the big button with a '1' on it at the bottom of your Viewer/Browser in the Aperture window.
If it is on (dark grey) it means that if you use Stamp of try to add keywords those things will only happen to the image with the Primary image (thicker white selection border) and not to any other images (thin white border) that you have also selected.
If you turn it off (light grey) andy stamps/keywords will be added to all of the selected images.
this does not apply to adjustments, those are always only applied to the Primary image (expect when using the Lift&Stamp)

  • Applying keywords to multiple photos

seems like an easy request, right? applying a keyword to multiple photos...
I've got the keyword HUD open. I've read the help files, the manual, seems rather straight forward to me. Select the pictures, drag over the word, should be applied to all selected.
Problem is, I can't get that to happen.
For example, I have a project. Under the project is a folder. I want to apply the same keyword to all 5 star pics in that folder. I use the view to display all 5 star pics. Then I select all, white box appears around them all indicating they are selected.
But here's my crunch. Even though I selected them all, really only one picture at a time is affected, as if there is a primary selection pic within the total selected pics. I've changed views, not sure how to actually affect a change to all selected.
It is as if the selection is a display function, but there is only one picture at a time actually selected for a change to be applied.
How in the world does one do something so simple as select all, drag the keyword over to all selected, and see them all tagged? Seems so simple...but I can't make this happen.
    Thanks

I agree: The help and discussions here are very valuable. Thanks for all the tips, very useful.
For what it's worth -- I don't know why -- but one new Library I started just would not accept any Keywords at all: None. I'd click on the list I made in the Control Bar: Nothing would happen.
BUT when going to another Library Keywords worked fine (much to my relief).
This happen just after importing a photo from IPhoto that I had, for the first time, put keywords on it in iPhoto. Any connection, I don't know.
BUT After going back and forth to other Libraries a few times, it started working perfectly.
    !? -- I think Aperture is great!

  • Adding keywords to the photo files

I know I can assign keywords in iPhoto, but they are not actually written to the photo file itself. I also know I can use iViewMedia Pro to "attach" the keywords to the files using Old Toad's tutorial.
I already have iViewMedia, but it's not the Pro version.
Can I use it to attach keywords, even though it's not the pro version, or do I have to use the pro version?
I just recently starting using keywords so I don't have too many and not too many of my photos have keywords assigned. I was reading a book on Tiger and saw that I could assign keywords with Preview. I don't guess this will allow me to assign keywords to multiple photos at one time. Does this attach the keywords to the file itself? and Will these keywords appear in iPhoto when the photo is imported?

    Rayne:
iView Media does not have the capability of writing annotations back to the file. You can use iVMP in its demo mode to do that but it'll be essentially a one time (or 21 day) affair.
Preview will add keywords to the actual photo file which will be read by iPhoto when it is imported. If you add keywords after it's been imported with Preview iPhoto will not recognize them. It's a slow, tedious process with Preview, however.
Other than iVMP and Preview there are some applications, mostly professional, that can do that also. You'll just have to experiment.

  • Aperture will not assign keywords to multiple photos

Recently I have not been able to assign keywords to multiple photos simultaneously. I also have the same problem when I try to copy adjustments and stamp to multiple photos. Only the one with the main selection is processed. Is this a bug in the newest Aperture (3.4.5)?
    Edit:
Sorry, I found the solution and wasn't able to delete the question: The problem was that the Primary Only button was active.
Message was edited by: Ernst Vikne

You may have the "Primary Only" flag set. Then keywords, ratings, etc will only be applied to the primary selection. Turn it off in Aperture's "Edit" menu: Edit > Primary Only or press the button with the framed "1".

  • Aperture 3: How to apply keywords to multiple photos?

    Hi,
I'm trying to apply keywords to multiple photos at once but if I select several photos and add a keyword in the 'metadata' panel it just gets applied to one of the selected photos, not all of them. Is this a bug or am I just doing it wrong?
    Thanks,
    Sam

    I see,
But that requires that said keyword already exists which slows down the workflow when you're dealing with lots of new keywords, or even existing ones if you have lots and lots of keywords instead of just typing in a keyword (and it perhaps auto-completes). Also I'm somewhat of a keyboard-centric user
    Thanks for the suggestion,
    Sam

  • Quick question: apply keyword to multiple photos?

I select multiple photos in the browser. I call up the keywords HUD. I find the keyword I want; I drag it onto the multiple images; it applies to ONE IMAGE ONLY.
I ended up having to apply it to one, then use the lift and stamp tool. Took forever.
What could I be doing wrong? Must be something stupid, because I know this is supposed to work. (I had my "Aperture Getting Started" manual open to the keyword section too.)
    Thanks in advance!

make sure that you don not have "primary only" selected (keyboard shortcut is 'S') ... it can easily be selected - ive done it a few times on accident, or there is an icon on the bottom control bar ...
this only allows changes to be made to the "primary" of a group of selected images - thicker white border ...

  • Adding keywords to multiple images - Help!

I'm getting really frustrated. I've been a long time iPhoto user, but my husband bought me Aperture and I'm trying to move to it. . . .anyway, I'm trying to add keywords to some of my pictures (I miss my "hot keys"). I have the Keyword Controls open on the bottom of the split view window and I've set up a variety of keyword preset lists. . . Anyway, the problem that I am having is when I select multiple images to apply a keyword to, it is only applying the keyword to the "primary" (meaning the boldly outlined in white) image - even though the other images as selected (outlined in a less bold white boarder) the keywords are not assigned to them. It's like I have to add the keywords to each image one at a time. I've looked at a bunch of the material online and it's clear to me that you are SUPPOSED to be able to add keywords to multiple images at a time. Anybody have any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks for the tip, it was really bugging me! Pitty you cant just click on the Keyword in the display rather than have to drag and drop it! I know you can use the control bar but for each item here I think a max of 12 or so are displayed, when you use hundreds of keyword to catalog medical images its not very handy, iphoto was much easier in this regard!
    cheers

I have about 2000 images that a client wants multiple people to add keywords to.  Is there a way to export thumbnails and keywording fields to excel and reimport when the keywords have been added?  Photos are of different locations and need to be emailed to those locations.  I am trying to streamline this...any suggestions?

One is to extract the data to a CSV file the other is to import data from a csv or tab delimited file.

  • Adding keyword to multiple selections deselects them - very annoying bug

When I have more than one image selected in order to add keywords to them, as soon as I add one keyword they all get deselected and I have to select them all over again. Why does this happen? Is it a bug? It is REALLY annoying.

    Max:
I assume you're using the Info/Keyword pane to add the keywords, right? When you're done adding the if you click on one of the selected files you can return to the library window and still have all of the selected photos remain selected. At least that's how it works for me.
If you're doing it a different way please describe exactly how you're going about it.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Adding keywords to multiple images

After Re installling Aperture (reinstalled entire system when persistant mail problems got the better of me) I can no longer add k/words to multiple images as I could before. I recall oringally having the same trouble but cannot remember now how I solved it. Am I in the wrong veiw mode perhaps? I am correctly selecting multiple images its just when I drag the keyword/s to one of them that is the only one that will receive them. Any ideas would be grartefully received.

Magic, thanks for your advice people, Merry Christmas from downunder Im knee deep in paper wrapping as I write and no doubt will find all my gadgets without batteries by days end.

  • Adding keywords to multiple images stopped working

When I was first using Aperture, I was able to select multiple images and add a keyword in the metadata area, and they keyword would apply to all the images. After a few months, it started to only apply the keyword to ONE of the selected images (whatever was the last one selected). Ever since, I've had to use the lift and stamp tool instead, but that's vastly more of a pain.
A friend who also uses Aperture still is able to select multiple images and have the keyword apply to all, and he has the latest version of Aperture. The feature worked with all his versions of OS X 10.4, and now with Leopard too.
So what gives? Anyone know if there's any way to fix this?

Yes, there's a way to fix this. Press 'S'.
This toggles something called 'Primary Only' which controls whether all selected images are keyworded, rotated etc. or just the image with the thicker white border.
You can also change it via Edit>Primary Only where you will see a checkmark if it's active, and also via the control strip at the bottom of the window, just to the left of the rotate buttons.
    Ian
P.S. I can recommend downloading the podcasts from http://digitalmedia.oreilly.com/aperture/, one of the ones with Joe Schorr specifically goes through Primary Only among other things.

  • Delete same keyword across multiple photos?

    Greetings,
I have a single keyword that I want to delete across hundreds of photos. Is there any way to do this? I have tried to select a handful of them, go to metadata > keyword, but it only shows the largely highlighted single photo.
The photos have many different keywords, so I can't copy and paste stamp, I really need to target this specific keyword and delete it from them all.
Does this make sense? Is there no way to do this Aperture?
    -i

Select images, Type in the Keyword you WANT to delete in the Add Keyword field at the bottom of the window (next to the keyword buttons) then - Shift-Apple + Return to Delete that word.
