Adding languages to Oracle Portal

Hi,
I would like to use languages that are not directly supported by Oracle Portal (Croatian in this case). Is it possible? Could someone direct me to the relevant documentation.
Thanks,
Ivica

Hi,
I'm using Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2 (10.1.4) and want support for URDU language in Oracle portal.
Here is a post that describes how to install an unsupported language translation into the Portal
Re: 11 steps to install an unsupported language translation into the Portal
Please advise how I should proceed to install Urdu language support for Oracle Portal.

  • How to incorporate a Language that is not supported in Oracle Portal

    Hi,
    I want to know the preferred way to add support for a new language in Oracle Portal.
    If a language is not supported in Oracle Portal, how I can add the content for that language in the Portal?
    Please advise.
    Best Wishes.

    I've seen this in a statement of direction presentation as an enhancement for R11. So this should be a R11 feature. In the meantime you might investigate the NLS views and tables and try to find a way to extend this. BUT just in an emergency case and you have to know that is not supported (also you may lose support in general for this installation when hacking the repository). So I cannot recommend this with a clear conscience. You have to know exactly what you're doing.
    You can also open a SR to get an official statement from support. Maybe there's a note for this.

  • How to transfer the language chosen in Portal to a partner application

    Hi,
    I'm having problems transferring the language chosen in Oracle Portal to a partner sso application. The partner application is written in java, and authorizes against SSOServer using the ssosdk902.jar. Using the java api, I should be able to extract information about Locale from the SSOUserInfo class using the method getLocale. The result however is not the language chosen by the user in Portal, but the language setting of the browser (internet explorer 6).
    I would expect to get something corresponding to the result of wwctx_api.get_nls_language in the portal. Am I misunderstanding things here?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi there,
    Have you found an answer for this question? I would be interested in the answer as well.

    Hi there,
    Have you applied any patches to 9ias since it was first installed? We had the same problem and had to apply a couple of patches to get the portlets working.
    1. Apply the 9.0.2.53.16 one-off patch for Oracle 9iAS Discoverer which takes Discoverer up to 9.0.2.53.16. This patch appears to be password protected and you need to get someone at Oracle support to give you a password.
    2. Apply the Discoverer Portlet Provider: 9.0.2.53.00c patch (patch no. 2595444) which gives you a new discportal.xsl file that actually works. It's this second step that solves your problem but you need to do step 1 before this. This is password protected as well.
    3. As you've upgraded Disco on the server to 9.0.2.53, you'll need to upgrade Disco Admin & Desktop within your 9iDS installation using patch no. 2555265. This is because Disco 9.0.2.53 uses an upgraded EUL that Disco Admin & Desktop need to be patched to use.
    This was the course of action Oracle support advised us about nine months ago. Of course they may have released a further patch to Disco that does 1 & 2 in one go, but we regularly carry out steps 1 and 2 on servers we use and we can use the Disco portlets successfully.
    Hope this helps

  • Sample  PL/SQL Portlet Source Code for Oracle Portal 9ias

    Hi, I'm a newbie of Oracle Portal technology, and I have a problem:
    I would create a PL/SQL portlet that realizes the following functions:
    1) Retrieve the username of the portal user logged from WWCTX_API.GET_USER function.
    2) Insert into an oracle db table two values about two hidden fields in the HTML FORM of the portlet.
    3) Realize the insert commit through the click on the submit button on the Html form of the portlet. I would redirect by the same button to an other page url also.
    I've never developed in Portal, and may be useful if someone could post me the source code of the SHOW MODE SECTION in the PROCEDURE SHOW of a SAMPLE PL/SQL PORTLET that realizes the upper functions.
    Thanks a lot....

    Hi
    Here's the code from Helloworld_Portlet example:
    procedure show
    p_portlet_record wwpro_api_provider.portlet_runtime_record
    is
    l_portlet wwpro_api_provider.portlet_record;
    begin
    if (not is_runnable(
    p_provider_id => p_portlet_record.provider_id
    ,p_reference_path => p_portlet_record.reference_path)
    ) then
    raise wwpro_api_provider.PORTLET_SECURITY_EXCEPTION;
    end if;
    Retrieve the portlet information.
    l_portlet := get_portlet_info(
    p_provider_id => p_portlet_record.provider_id
    ,p_language => p_portlet_record.language
    if (p_portlet_record.exec_mode = wwpro_api_provider.MODE_SHOW) then
    if (p_portlet_record.has_title_region) then
    Draw the portlet header and specify what links are available
    from that header (i.e. details, customize, help, and about).
    The has_title property is set at the page region level.
    wwui_api_portlet.draw_portlet_header
    p_provider_id => p_portlet_record.provider_id
    ,p_portlet_id => p_portlet_record.portlet_id
    ,p_title => l_portlet.title
    ,p_has_details => true
    ,p_has_edit => true
    ,p_has_help => true
    ,p_has_about => true
    ,p_referencepath => p_portlet_record.reference_path
    ,p_back_url => p_portlet_record.page_url
    end if;
    Draw the portlet borders.
    The has_border property is set at the page region level.
    wwui_api_portlet.open_portlet(p_portlet_record.has_border);
    Display the content of the portlet in the show mode.
    Use the wwui_api_portlet.portlet_text() API when
    generating the content of the portlet so that the
    output uses the portlet CSS.
    htp.p(wwui_api_portlet.portlet_text(
    p_string => 'Hello World - Mode Show'
    ,p_level => 1
    if (p_portlet_record.has_border) then
    wwui_api_portlet.close_portlet;
    end if;
    elsif (p_portlet_record.exec_mode = wwpro_api_provider.MODE_SHOW_ABOUT) then
    Display the about page for the portlet.
    htp.p('Hello World - Mode Show About');
    elsif (p_portlet_record.exec_mode = wwpro_api_provider.MODE_SHOW_EDIT) then
    Display the edit page for the portlet.
    htp.p('Hello World - Mode Show Edit');
    elsif (p_portlet_record.exec_mode = wwpro_api_provider.MODE_SHOW_HELP) then
    Display the help page for the portlet.
    htp.p('Hello World - Mode Show Help');
    elsif (p_portlet_record.exec_mode = wwpro_api_provider.MODE_SHOW_EDIT_DEFAULTS) then
    Display the edit defaults page for the portlet.
    htp.p('Hello World - Mode Edit Defaults');
    elsif (p_portlet_record.exec_mode = wwpro_api_provider.MODE_SHOW_DETAILS) then
    Display the details page for the portlet.
    htp.p('Hello World - Mode Show Details');
    elsif (p_portlet_record.exec_mode = wwpro_api_provider.MODE_PREVIEW) then
    Display the preview page for the portlet.
    htp.p('Hello World - Mode Show Preview');
    end if;
    end show;
    I think you need to add this:
    You can get the values of your html-form with this command:
    v_hidden_1 varchar2(256);
    v_hidden_2 varchar2(256);
    v_hidden_1 := wwpro_api_parameters.get_value('name_of_hidden_1_in_html_form','p');
    v_hidden_2 := wwpro_api_parameters.get_value('name_of_hidden_2_in_html_form','p');
    You can get the actual URL with this command:
    v_url := p_portlet_record.page_url;
    Hope that helps.

    Mark

  • HOW to define the default language in the portal

    Normally the portal take the language of the internet explorer for user.
    I want to define a default language for all portal users in our portal, so that every user get the same default language.
    Can anyone tell me how to do this?
    We are on EP6 SP2.
    Thanks Sybille

    Hi Olivier,
    thank you for the response.
    I added
    request.mandatorylanguage=de
    request.mandatorycountry=de
    to
    request.defaultlanguage=de
    request.defaultcountry=de
    Now, I get the default language german, but when I want to changed the portal language over personalize to English, the result is nevertheless the german language.
    Can you help me again? Where can I get a documentation about this?
    I want a default language: German. Also when the Internet Explorer has a different language. But when the user select manual one of the permitted languages (English and German) over the personalize button, the language should change to the selected language. Is it possible?

  • Use 11g portlet in Oracle Portal or WSRP1 in WebCenter application fails

    Hi,
    I build a portlet as in the example at http://download.oracle.com/otndocs/tech/webcenter/files/owc_r11_portlet_bridge_demo.html and try to consume it from Oracle Portal. Does this mean wsrp1 is no longer supported with 11g because of client side ajax? Would this mean that Oracle Portal consuming 11g portlets is out of the question?
    Kind Regards,
    Andre Jochems

    Thank you for the clear answer. Just curious .... if Portal 11g supports wsrp 2 will it be possible to have a portlet generate events and link those in portal to page parameters which in turn can be linked to portlet input parameters as is possible with a pdk java portlet? In other words, ... can the inter portlet communication be set/edited/wired at runtime in Portal instead of design time as is the case with WebCenter?
    Also if Portal 11g will have these features what is the added value of WebCenter, aside from not needing the extra infrastructure to run Portal?
    While i am at it, ... how will the skin and stylesheets be handled when a 11g rich faces portlet is rendered in Portal, will it keep its nice looks? Can they be mapped to portal defined styles for portlets to adapt the style to the surrounding portal?
    Kind Regards,
    Andre Jochems

  • Oracle Portal 3.0 Beta - problem with connection

    After finally getting a clean install of Oracle Portal 3.0 on Oracle 8.1.6 on Windows 2000, I am having problems connecting with the database when I try the PORTAL30 or PORTAL30_SSO URL. I get an error:
    "Proxy Logon Failed - please verify you have specified correct connectivity in the DAD... Error Code 6401 - DATABASE LOGIN FAILED - TNS is unable to connect to destination. Invalid TNS address or destination not listening..."
    The Oracle listener is up, the database is in the TNS names file on both Ora81 and OraPortal30 homes.
    One thing I do know is that when I configure the DADs for a user/pswd and connect string, and enter the actual Oracle password, it returns with a long series of **************** for the password, which is must longer than the actual one.
    I have hit a roadblock and would appreciate any support.

    UPDATE to the PROBLEM:
    I tried everything and then I stumbled upon something. In the Net8 configuration assistant for Oracle 8i, when I went into Naming Methods configuration, it said that I was only using Local. I added Oracle Names and tried again... SAME ERROR. RRRRRGGGHH!!! I had no trouble using SQL*Plus so what was going on!??
    Then I went to check the TNSNAMES.ORA in both the ORA8i and OraPortal30 network/admin directories. They were both exactly the same, with ORCLDEV1 (my sid) defined. Hmmm.... THEN, I looked in the directory and saw SQLNET.ORA. I compared the files in the two directories and they were DIFFERENT!!!
    The one in Ora8i had a NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (TNSNAMES, LDAP, ONAMES, HOSTNAME).
    The one in OraPortal30 had a NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (LDAP, ONAMES).
    On a hunch, I changed the one in OraPortal30 to be the same as Ora8i.
    Then, I went to http://bwood/pls/portal30 and VOILA!!! I got the main page. I then clicked on LOGIN and got the sign-on screen. It has been working so far!!!
    I will continue to post the progress of this as we begin to convert an older OWS 2.1 application to Portal 3.0!!

  • How to set JVM system properties in Oracle Portal ??

    Hello Guys,
    I want to set javax.net.ssl.trustStore="path to keystore" ,JVM system properties on oracle portal,
    Like i want to configure my keystore with oracle portal so that my application can make a success full connection with back end using https.
    i read the following note from one of the Oracle tech note,which says that
    It is important that this system property is passed as a command line option to Oracle Application Server Containers for J2EE (OC4J). Setting the property in oc4j.properties will not help because the system property is read first before OC4J reads this file. Therefore, it is best to modify the <java-option> line in the OC4J_portal section of ORACLE_HOME/opmn/conf/opmn.xml.
    So, i made the required changes to OC4J_portal section of opmn.xml file as below
    added value is shown in bold
    <data id="java-options" value="-server -Xrs -Djava.security.policy=C:\oracle\OraPortal\j2ee\OC4J_Portal\config\java2.policy -Djava.awt.headless=true -Xmx256m -Djavax.net.ssl.trustStrore=C:\keystore1 -Djavax.net.ssl.trustStrorePassword=password1"/>
    Even after making these changes, my application not able to make connection using https.
    Could u guys explain me, what things are going wrong or somethings else i need to do to make it work.
    Any thoughts would be highly appreciated.

  • Using Discoverer with Oracle Portal - URGENT!!!

    I need to setup Oracle Portal 3.0 with Discoverer 3i for a demonstration tomorrow due to a "this just came in!" from the management! ;)
    What I would like to do it to display some sort of Discoverer portlet so anyone with a browser can access and view Discover results in a nice manner.
    I have been told this is possible (by Oracle Denmark) but how....?!
    Could anyone please email a step-by-step description if you know how to do this?

    If you don't check the "Connect to Applications EUL" option as described, Disco looks for a database user with the user name SYSADMIN, which you don't want (and probably doesn't exist).
    An alternative is to put a : at the end of the user name (ie SYSADMIN:) which makes Disco treat this as an Oracle Applications user name, regardless of the connection options chosen. This should then prompt you to select the Oracle Applications Responsibility you want to use (assuming you have more than one). You can log directly into a specific responsibility by adding the responsibility name after the : (ie SYSADMIN:Disco Admin).

  • Oracle Portal mirror site

    Is it possible to run Oracle portal on server "A" and every night make a copy to mirror site "B" witch runs on simple non-dynamic content server (for example apache without connection to databases).
    In this case "A" is used to make some content upload and management, but "B" is public server.
    If it is possible witch rules i must keep in mind?
    Thanks.

    The closest thing we have to this in the current release (3.0.9) is a Nav Bar element called a content area map. When selected, it will show the user all the content areas that the user has privs to see in the portal and can drill down within a particular content area to access folders/sub folders.
    In V2 (as part of the content area/page merge) we have defined a new site map-type widget that can be added to any item region on a page. When selected, it allows you to view one or all page groups in the portal (restricted by user privs) and to drill down within a particular page group to access pages/sub pages.
