Adding large amounts of songs

Is it a bad thing to upload over 3000 songs onto a new iPod all at once, or will that likely mess it up? Like, will it overheat and melt a piece of hardware or something?

For a reference point, when I moved to my new machine, I dragged over 10,000 tracks into iTunes at once. It worked fine, after I figured out a couple of minor issues relating to Dual Core processors.

with LMS 4.1 running on solaris 10 I discovered the follwing.
Adding larger amount (>10) of devices one after the other (via DCRCLI) results in IC_Server no longer collecting the Inventory-Data nor ArchiveMgmt will collect Configs and after some while DataCollection (ANI) will get stucked in endless loop.
After that (navigating in CW2k-WebUI) the UI freezes.
Is that a known problem with Interprocess-Communication and Eventbus in LMS 4.1???
Any feedback is welcome.

After stopping the system I discovered that RmeDbEngine won't stop.
Issuing dbstop command also results in RmeDbEngine still running.
We had to kill process with signal 9.

alternate technique if you don't want to check/uncheck all your songs (just a bunch of them at once):
select a large number of songs in the library (using either shift-click or ctrl-click). right-click on the blue mass, and select "check selection" or "uncheck selection".

Adding large amounts of data to multiple traces

Hi,
I have a CNiGraph object. I want to add a 100 traces (plots) with each 500.000pts, and later update with 50.000pts/sec for each trace. How can I do this? I tried and got a result of 45 seconds for 300pts/trace for 100 traces. I must be missing something. What is the fastest way to add the points to the traces? For the init I would use PlotXvsY (as ALL traces can have different X values and the length of each trace may not be the same). Then ChartXvsY. I don't even get as far as the ChartXvsY, since the first stage takes forever. Probably one reason is that I am getting a screen update for every trace added (can this be disabled?). I also don't want the graph to rescale on every trace update, just move it to the end (scroll). I tried turning of the AutoScale function for the plots and setting their visibility to false, but that still took like 23secs (for 100 traces, 300p/t).

Instead of using URLConnection open a Socket to the server port (80 probably) send a POST http request followed by the data, you may then (optional) recieve data from the server to check that the servlet is ok, this is the same protocol as URLConnection, but you have control over when the data is actually sent...

Deleting Large amounts of songs purchased

Is it possible to easily display what account purchased the iTunes song? I have several accounts that have authorized my computer to play music so I have songs from different iTunes accounts. One account in particular is no longer authorized to play, so I would like to delete all the songs purchased with that account. Is there a way to group all of the songs together to delete them quickly?
I do NOT want to go through "Get Info" and then click through all the songs in my iTunes library just to find the ones to delete.

IPad iTunes Stores App Freezes due to large number of songs purchased?

The iTunes Store App on my iPad 4 freezes when I go to " purchases" on the lower right hand corner of the screen. The screen remains blank, with the twirling icon in the middle implying 'wait.' I wanted to avoid doing a "restore" to the whole iPad, as everything else on the iPad but this works fine. After several days back and forth emailing with with Apple iTunes support, the Tech concluded it was beyond his/her technical expertise, and gave me the phone # for Apple Cares. Initial diagnosis after my first call to them was that I needed to do a 'restore' to factory setting because Apple won't push through an update to their iTunes Store App. So, I backed up the iPad to my using iTunes on my my PC and to iCloud, then called back. This time I worked with a very pleasant Apple Rep who stayed with me on the phone for over an hour running diagnostic tests, trying different things like rebooting my iPad, unplugging and resetting my Wi-Fi modem (I used AT&T UVerse for Internet and had already had techs out checking that after the first call - no problem there), going to iTunes on my PC, and a number of other things. After conferring with a senior tech, the Apple Cares rep said they concluded it was due to the large amount of songs I've purchased. I don't think of myself as a large music purchaser, maybe 4 - 5 songs a week since I bought the iPad new a year ago. So, I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem? Apple Cares was not able to tell me how to move songs out of "purchases" or whatever the bucket might be called where purchases are listed to clear this out if in fact it is the large number of songs there actually causing the iTunes Stores App to freeze. This is not an essential function, but I use it when I want to find the names of recently downloaded songs to place purchases into playlists. (I know, I should be able to remember the names, artists, etc. of the music a I purchase, but alas, no!) The nearest Apple Store is about 180 miles round-trip, and I won't get there for about two weeks. Incidentally, recently added songs show normally in the iPad's Music library. If anyone else has experienced this, was it fixed? If so how?

No, the problem still exists. As far as I know, the Case Number is still open. I've just not had time to set aside a day to bring the iPad into an Apple Store yet. It's about a 3 hr round trip, plus there'd be time walking to the store (it's inside a mall), and then the time spent while the iPad is looked at and hopefully fixed. Ugh!

How to delete a large amount of duplicates in itunes quickly?

I recently had a new hardrive installed, and during the multiple pc backups all my music was doubled, tripled, and quadroupled. Itunes doesnt have a system to delete a large amount of duplicates. I cannot sort them by 'date added' and use that method because they were all added at the same time. Is there a quicker and easier way of doing it rather than deleting all but one of the songs in each set? Because that would take a month to delete 6000 songs by hand....HELP!

The show duplicates/show exact duplicates features have been left out of iTunes 11. Rumor suggests they will be restored in the next build. In the meantime I have written two Windows scripts to make playlists of Duplicates and Exact Duplicates, either from a selection of tracks or the entire library. Note that, as with the iTunes feature, this list makes no distinction between "originals" and "dupes", you have to decide which is which.
There is also my DeDuper script for automatically removing duplicate copies but keeping one remaining copy of each set. This can preserve ratings, play counts, playlist membership, etc. which are lost in a manual clean up. Please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping. See this thread for background on deduping and the script.
If you want to manually remove duplicate tracks use shift-delete to remove selected tracks from the library as well as the playlist. Keep one of each repeated group of files and don't send the others to the recycle bin unless you are sure that there are multiple files on the disc as opposed to multiple entries to the same file. Same advice to backup applies.

If you don't have the option to play music by genre on your iPhone, try this step to find the Genre option:
Browse your music library.
You can browse your music by playlist, artist, or other category. For other browse options, tap More. Tap any song to play it.
To rearrange the tabs in the Music app, tap More, then tap Edit and drag a button onto the one you want to replace.

How can I get ITUNES to display manually added artwork for each song regardless of the album name?

I have been manually adding artwork to my songs. When I click the Show Artwork check box, it doesn't show the cover art. For example some greatest hits albums have different cover art per track. ITUNES picks one of the cover art and shows it for the entire album grouping.
Anyway around this? I want the added cover art to display per song.

The artwork of each individual track does display during playback, in the small thumbnail at the top of the iTunes window, or at the left of the MiniPlayer control (opens by clicking the thumbnail), or the larger artwork panel that is shown if you click on the Show Large Artwork control in the MiniPlayer. It should also display on any iPod or iOS Now Playing view.
The Up Next list uses the album art (usually cover of the first track) for everything from the same album, which is perhaps a shame, although in general one artwork per album makes sense.

Are you using iPhoto on your iPad? Then deleting photos will depend on the album they are in and how they have been added to the iPad.

If you also have a Mac, you can delete quickly large amounts of photos from your camera roll by connecting your iPad to your computer using USB and importing the photos into Image Capture, iPhoto, or Aperture. Then set the option to delete the photos after importing.
Photos you synced to your iPad can only be deleted by syncing again.
If you are using IOS 7 you can delete larger amounts of photos from your Camera Roll in the "Moments" view:

My iPhone has a large amount of capacity used by other as shown in iTunes when sync. I can't determine where 4.3 GB of other is from. Even eliminating all of the categories of music, movies and the like it still uses 4.3 GB for other?

My iPhone has developed a large amount of "other" as shown on how the capacity is used when sync in iTunes. Even eliminating songs, ovies and all other sync items it still uses 4.3 GB of other. This is a relativily new development. How can I determine the cause and free up this capacity?

Other includes data such as iPhone settings, contacts, calendar events, Safari bookmarks/cache/cookies, email and email attachments, SMS/MMS/iMessages, notes, app data, Safari cache, cookies and bookmarks, stored passwords, search index, home screen organization, wi-fi network data, etc. But is should be around 1 GB; 4.3 GB is an indication that something is corrupt and you will have to restore your phone to correct it.
Before restoring, be sure to import all your photos to your computer and back up your contacts (by syncing them with iCloud or Google, or to a supported program such as Outlook or mac Address Book, or using an app like My Contacts Backup) as contacts are not fully backed up in the iPhone backup. Once this is done, follow this guide: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414, being careful to back up your phone at step 6. At the end of the process your phone will restart and you will go through the setup screens; during this setup, when given the option choose to Restore from iTunes Backup and restore from the backup you made earlier. Then connect to iTunes and see how large "Other" is. If it's still that large, then the corrupt data was contained in the backup you restored from and you will have no choice except to repeat the process, but this time restore your phone as a new iPhone.

Error adding large numbers

I am adding large numbers and getting the wrong result. there seems to be some rounding taking place in the sum but i am adding integers. I am using DASYLab 9.02, data is summed in the arithmetic module, example problem 331153408-31570 = 331121838 but the output is 331121824. I tried making the variable where the inputs are stored 20 digit with 10 decimals but that did not help and i also tried dividing first by 1000 and 10000 only to get different answers. is there a setting that needs to be configured differently?

Hi Tom, Thanks for the reply. I am reading a hex value in from a serial port. the number is large and when i format it as hex on one chan it is off by a small amount. there is some rounding in the LSD. i then take another reading later and calculate the delta. since i dont have the right values to begin with my difference calculation is wrong. when i read as bytes through 8 channels, i can see the ascii for each digit and that they are correctly displayed. using a formula module i can convert from ascii to decimal so that i get the decimal equivalent of the hex character then in the next formula i do the math to find the value of each hex digit in place it holds. then using a sum arithmetic module i get the final value of the large number coming in. it is correct all the way upto the aritmetic sum. i tried cutting the large hex number into two parts and then adding up the weighted parts and still have the wrong ans in the display module. i also tried dividing the halves by 1000 prior to adding them so that i was working with smaller numbers in the summation but that didnt help.
so i did the math directly in the extended portion of the variables. the numbers add up properly there but when i try to bring the correct sum back into the work sheet to display it, it is wrong again. it seems that a value around 04000000 hex is the limit. below that i get the right value displayed that was calculated in the variable field, above it there is some degree of variation. I can set the limit of cycles to a value below where the addition becomes problematic or i can export the hex to a spreadsheet, do the math there and then bring it back in but i will still have the same issue displaying the answer.
the limitation doesnt seem to be in DASYLab in general but in the Read, Formula, Constant Generator modules that read the variable back into the worksheet. it is displayed properly in the contents window

Large amount of ARP packets

I've got a question regarding large amount of ARP-packets when enabling "Interface Groups" (aka "VLAN Select") on a WLAN.
Currently we have an SSID with approximatly 12.000 similtanoius users during peak hours. These users are primarly students with lectures all over campus. So mobility and flexibility are key aspects. By this I mean that the amount of users in different areas of campus vary a lot and therefore the amount of users on a controller vary alot. And when we have one client VLAN/interface per controller, we did see that we didn't have enough IP-adresses on one client VLAN to handle all the clients when alot of users are moving between areas.
To be able to have enough IP-adresses available at any time at any controller, we have enabled "Interface Groups" on the WLAN/SSID. In this Interface Group we have all the client VLANs/interfaces from all the controllers. This also makes us able to move APs around on different controllers without thinking about having enough IP-adresses for this area on the controllers.
But, as I started with, the result is a large amount of ARP-packets to all clients on that SSID. We fear that this is causing trouble and that other traffic suffers from this. If we do sniffing of traffic to a client with all running applications closed (and therefore very low network traffic), we see 70.000 ARP-packets during one hour (97% of the traffic). These are mainly ARP-requests from clients requesting the MAC-address of their default gateway. I know that the actual amount of data transmitted is very low, but it is the number of packets that troubles me.
So my question is this:
Are "AP groups" the solution to my problem? If I create one AP group for each area of the campus using an Interface Group dedicated for this area and define this AP group and Interface Group on every controller. For instance an area called "Building A" has an "AP Group" and "Interface Group" with the same name. This Interface Group has 3 VLANs. And of course the APs in this area are configured with this AP Group. Then I guess only ARP traffic for these 3 VLANs will be sent out on these APs?
I know that the scenario and question is a bit fussy. But I really need an opinion on this. So if something is unclear, please ask.

I think the root cause is very clear. I'll try to explain a bit more.
We've got twenty controllers and each of these had one single /23 subnet for clients (for this SSID). But this /23-subnet got too small when a lot of students moved to one area. Then "Interface Groups" came along and we tried adding one single /23 to the SSID. This worked very well but we did see that our utilization of IP-addresses was poor. This because we needed to have enough IP-addresses in every area to cope with the peaks of users on each controller (we are not doing NAT but using "real" IPv4-adresses). So we wanted to try to have all the client subnets defined on every controller and in one Interface Group on every controller. So that means that every ARP-request/broadcast from clients on the routers MAC-address on these twenty subnets reaches every controller and gets broadcasted out to every AP and client. That is the root cause of the huge amount of ARP.
I realize that this is no good design, but I honestly thought that this kind of ARP-traffic/broadcast was stopped at the controller when we have "Broadcast Forwarding" disabled. And this design gives us flexibility to move APs around on controllers without thinking of if we have enough IP-addresses on the controller we are moving APs to. As I mentioned, we are not doing NAT so utilization of IP-addresses is important. And please don't start a discussion on why we are not doing NAT. We've had that discussion internally ;-)
So I'm trying to figure out if I can have this flexibility by using "AP Groups". I'm still doing the design on the drawing board and struggle a bit to explain. So I'll simplify my question: If a controller has four VLANs/Interfaces for clients (VLAN 10, 20, 30 and 40) and an "Interface Group" with only two of these VLANs (VLAN 10 and 20). And I set up an "AP Group" using this "Interface Group". Will I see broadcast/ARP only for the two VLANs in the "Interface Group" (VLAN 10 and 20) or is it a possibility that I will see broadcast for the other two VLANs as well (VLAN 30 and 40)? I really hope and think that I'll only see broadcast for the VLANs in the "Interface Group" but I need to be sure.

How to pass large amount of data between steps

I need to pass large amount of data(array size >5000000 each time) from one step to another.
But it is not allowed to set array size larger than 5000000.
Any suggestion?

In your LabVIEW code, put the data into a data value reference. Pass this reference between your TestStand steps. As an added bonus, you will not get an extra copy of the data at each step. You will need to use the InPlace element structure to get your data out of the data value reference.

Approx amount of songs - does this include album art?

Hi,
I am deciding on the 1GB or 2GB, 1 GB will probably be enough for my type of use, however,
If the approx amount of songs for a 1gb is around 240, based on 4 mins, AAC..etc, Does the approx amount of 240 songs include each song having album art showing, if not, how many songs am I looking at if each song has album art as I may need to get a 2GB if it significantly reduces.

The estimate includes the album artwork.
However, I would still get a larger iPod just to allow for more music. Also, the iPod can be used to store files, store and view photos, etc., all of which you may want to take advantage of and require more space.
