Adding layers in cs5.5

We have written a code in cs 4 to add layers in perticular order.But the same code adds the layers in jumbled way in cs5.5.Please can anyone help us to know how to add the layers in perticular order in cs 5.5.

You can use Layer.move() to order the layers however you'd like...

Hi - I have a psd made using CS2. I can only see a single layer, and I have verified that the file opens correctly in CS2.

Does anyone have a way that works for adding layers to video??
I thought I had it! I am trying to add layers to a QT movie the process I used was:
a) import vid frames to layers - no problem
b) add multiple layers some by duplication - no problem
c) export layers in image sequence shows correct # of images - okay
d) open jpeg image sequences in PS extended - okay
e) check layers ? it seems that the original QT layers were duplicated and the added layers omitted
f) the last step was going to be to export as QT 264 vid

Photoshop Extended tries to maintain the link between the video layer and source file even if you move or rename the source. If the link breaks for some reason, an alert icon appears on the layer in the Layers panel. To relink the video layer to the source file, use the Replace Footage command. This command can also replace the video or image sequence frames in a video layer with frames from a different video or image sequence source.
In the Animation or Layers panel, select the video layer that you want to relink to the source file or to replace the content.
Choose Layer > Video Layers > Replace Footage.
In the Open dialog box, select a video or image sequence file, and then click Open.

Hi Noel,
First of all, everythings helpful whether it's right or wrong it allows me to look at other perspectives so, lay it on me.
regarding the interweaving: I took the left and right image files and made them into seperate groups after which I dragged each layer and placed it in position i.e. I dragged the first layer of group 2 and placed it between the 1st and 2nd layer of group 1 and so on. After I had finished placing all the layers from group 2 into position in group 1 I turned the eyes on to confirm that they were there, they worked fine. I then converted layers to frames, nothing visible happened, I then exported to video where only group 1 played back. I then went back and closed the animation, this left me the combined layers and exported them as a video and for some reason it didn't look right so, I reimported as a psd file and when I played with the eyes all I got was duplicate layers of group 1.
I'm way out of my element here, because I don't work with video and I don't have Photoshop Extended, but reading through your posts I suspect the devil is in the details somewhere here.
Perhaps you'll want to go a little more into just how you did step f) manually interweave layers to try to discern why what you thought should be video frames from vid #2 ended up as duplicate frames from vid #1.
Did you actually SEE the proper interleaved frames in the file while you were inserting them? NO
Is there a Frames from Layers step that needed to be performed after inserting them, perhaps? Yes as mentioned above

Blending Layers in CS5

I recently downloaded the trial version of Photoshop Cs5. I haven't had many problems and I like it a lot except for ONE thing! I cannot figure out how to blend layers! When I upload my first layer (my image) it shows in the layers palette. But when I upload my second layer (texture) it not only jumps on top of my first layer in the layers palette, but it ALSO jumps on top of my first layer (the image) in the work area. I have watched a lot of the Photoshop tutorials and I've noticed that when they upload their second layer it shows SEPARATELY from the first image in the work area. They then click on the second layer and drag it over onto the first layer and then they are ready to start working on blending. For the fact that my second layer jumps on top of my first layer in the work area like it does, I am not able to follow along with the tutorials! I have also tried and tried to figure out how to manage to blend by trying lots of techniques and options in the program but nothing will work. I use textures and depend on blending A LOT with my editing so this has been very discouraging! I have used other editing programs and usually with them, after you duplicate your first layer and then upload another you are able to blend with no problem. So I do not understand this at all! You can even blend with no problem by duplicating your first layer in Photoshop Elements 10.
If someone could help me with this, it would be MUCH appreciated! Thank you!

No, you seem to have understood me very well! The thing is, I have used Photoshop, but I'm not a professional with Photoshop and with some parts of the program it can be very confusing and hard to understand! I'll try to be a little more precise!
When I open Photoshop Cs5, I click on "open" in the File menu to bring in my image into the work area. Once I do that, it appears in the layers palette. I then go to File and click "open" again to bring in my texture (to blend with my image). The texture jumps right on top of my image in the layers palette and it ALSO jumps on top of my first layer in the work area. (I have made sure to "unlock" my layer in the layers palette.) In the tutorials, when they open their second layer it comes in as separate from the first layer in their work area. So, therefore, I have been unable to follow along with the tutorials.
*Is the second layer (the texture) supposed to lay on top of the first layer in the work area??* It certainly doesn't by what they show in the tutorials on Photoshop Cs5! They show it coming in as separate from the first layer in the work area.
When you say "Select all Ctr/Cmd a" what exactly do you mean?? Sorry! Like I said, I'm not completely amateur, but I'm no professional either! And compared with those who have used Photoshop for a very long time, yes, I'm probably a dumby!
I think I have an idea of what you mean and I'm going to try it.

Moving Layers Problem CS5

I'm having issues moving individual layers once they've been put into a group in CS5. It just moves everything in the group! Very inconvenient. This hasn't happened to me before or in CS6. Can anyone offer any recommendations on how to correct this?

Nevermind, I had the pointer tool set to group. Yay for problem solving.

Anti-aliasing not working on new transparent layers in CS5

A problem has appeared in CS5 running on Lion where anti-aliasing isn't working on transparent layers.
If I create a shape and select it with the magic wand on the background layer and then Edit>Stroke I get a smooth line.
If I create a new transparent layer, create a shape, select with the magic wand and Edit>Stroke I get a jagged line.
This is driving me crazy. I've reset the settings and tried everything I can think of. It never used to do this, what's going on?

What’s with the Magic Wand?
If you create a Shape as Path you could »Load path as selection« or »Stroke path with brush« (see the bottom of the Paths Panel).
Edit: And you could load the transparency of the Layer by command-clicking its icon in the Layers Panel.
Or why not use the Layer Style Stroke?

Autoblend question layers question cs5/cs6

i have a question about autoblend question
i have to say that autoblend in cs5 , cs6 work very well
but may i know which is the component that handles about blend many layers?
there is a script but there are few lines of code
is there a plugin ? in a components? in hardcoded in the program?
because it gives great results but i have not a lot of conrol in this process
i don't like hdr , i like blend many exposure
i know only photomatix that gives me some control and enfuse
but in photoshop i can 't find a way to control the blending process

I don't have a definitive answer, but I have a feeling that a student teacher version is not eligible for an upgrade discount. You own the CS5 perpetual license, and can install it on two computers at the same time as CS6, CC etc. That will be the case in perpetuity. (not sure why I didn't just type 'forever' back there, or alert the cliche police 'Going forward')
Photoshop CS6 Extended will cost you just shy of US$1600 according to this Amazon page The non extended version does not give you the 3D tools, and Photoshop CC comes as the full extended version as standard. If you got the Photoshop / Lightroom Photography plan at a mere $10 a month, the price of CS6 would keep you subscribed for > three years. Photoshop CC has a lot of wonderful features CS6 does not have, and will never have, and CC will be be constantly updated 'in perpetuity'. ;-) $10 a month! Heck, what's not to like about that?!!!

Issue With Adding Layers - Please Help!

I am having an issue where Photoshop is not allowing me to add any kind of new layer to images that I'm editing. It won't allow it while it's a .NEF or after it's become a .PSD. If I open an image that already contains layers and is saved as a .PSD, then it allows me to add layers no problem. If I start a new blank document it will allow me to add layers. It's just not allowing me to do it with files that have been imported within the last week. It doesn't seem like a system resource issue since it allows me to add layers to older files. If you have any thoughts on this please help!

Well... sort of fixed it. Apparently my system doesn't like editing images with a color depth of 16bit. If I convert it down to 8 when I'm converting it from RAW, then it allows me to add layers... Is this normal?

How do I get the highlight to stick in adjustment layers in CS5.

In every other version of PS that I've used PS5 to CS3 once an adjustment tool was highlighted it stayed highlighted throughout the adjustment. I lose the highlight when I switch the adjustment off and on. For example, if I'm adding magenta to greens in selective color and I turn the adjustment off and on to see the correction, the highlight in the magenta box goes off and I have to double click in the box, sometimes several times, to get it back. I can't just increase or decrease rthe adjustment using the up or dowm arror key after I've switched the adjustment off and on without having to select the box again. This can't be right; it's a RPITA. Thanks for any help.

Try insering/removing the headphone jack a half dozen or so times.
- Try the following to rule out a software problem:
- Reset. Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory defaults/new iPod
If you still have a problem it is likely a hardware problem. likely a bad headphone jack. I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

Missing layers in CS5 pdf export :((

Hello,
trying to export a document with 20 pages with 2 page templates ("Mustervorlage") and 2 layers as PDF (interactive and not interactive).
In some pages the objects of the background layer are missing. Exporting only one of these pages the background objects are exported, too.
But why? In InDesign CS4 (both windows) I did not have this frustrating behaviour.

That makes sense. I had a colorist that works with one of our vendor pre
-press houses set us up. We calibrated to our vendors machines so that we could share files when necessary. Their recommendation was the distiller workflow. Even setting the profile in the export to pdf option in ID caused it to be a bit different than doing it the long way. That may have changed since this was a couple of years ago, but I've just continued to do it that way.

Adding layers with opacity masks

I wanna use a opacity mask for multiple layers and different designes, but everytime I make a mask with the transparency panel it locks my layers to one layer and does not let me add any new ones or go back to my other stroke designes on other layers, so I do a mask in new artbourds on a new tab for each designe to get the textures I want, how do I combine them for one big design?

Layers in CS5

I have an iMac running OSX and PS CS5. My previous experience has been PS and PSE 7.0, and Lightroom 3. I'm pretty new to CS5 and am still in the steep part of the learning curve.
I took a photo of a car and cropped it and eliminated the background by masking. I believe I saved it correctly. I created a new project with a unique background on which I would like to place the car. Using the move tool, I was able once to drag the car onto to the new project, but it appears the new project was in the forefront and I could only see the car at the opaque edges. How can I bring the car to the forefront?

What you have done is similar to what I intended. The car has been masked out of the backgroun and I tried to drag it onto a layer of blue/black background. I want the car tires to reflect in the blue surface. However, the layer of the car and the later of the background seem to be in opposite places, with the background in front of the car. I can't get them to switch possitions, but will try to work with the layer ordering in the panel.
I can't get to it until Tuesday, so look for some response by then. I do intend to post a screen shot to illunstrate where I am with this.

How to make 1sec long sequence out of 7 PS layers in CS5 at 7fps?

I can not make 1sec long clip containing lets say 7(or 14 or 28) frames only. It would be either 30 or 25 devided so that the number is even. Like 30fps=3;10;15 etc and 25fcp=5.
It works with CS3 as you see on the picture, but not with CS5. CS3 allow to change time Base when you change the Frame Rate. How can we make AE CS5 not to hang on the Base 25 or 30?

Simply set the project time base setting to Auto in teh project settings - just like in CS3. This hasn't changed.

Now that you've discovered them, forget them. They will get
you into
serious trouble.
This may help you understand positioning a bit -
There are 4 different types of positioning:
Absolute
Relative
Fixed
Static
Here is a brief explanation of each kind of positioning (with
regard to
placement of elements on the page only)....
Position:absolute (or A/P elements)
This does several things -
1. It 'removes' the element from the flow of the code on
the� page so that
it can no longer influence the size or position of any other
pa�ge element
(except for those contained within it, of course).
2. The absolutely positioned element takes its position from
the position of
its closest PA�RENT *positioned* element - in the
absence of any explicitly
positioned parent, this will default to the <body> tag,
which is always
positioned
�at 0,0 in the browser viewport.
This means that it doesn't matter where in the HTML code the
laye�r's code
appears (between <body> and </body>), its
location on the screen will not
change (this assumes that you have not positioned the A/P
element within
a table or another A/P element, of course).
Furthe�rmore, the space in
which
this element would have appeared were it not
positi�oned is not preserved
on the screen. In other words, absolutely positioned elements
don't take
up any space on the page. In fact, they FLOAT over the page.
Position:relative (or R/P elements)

Adding layers much too big even after resize

I have a PSD project with several layers. The size of the image is 92mm X 62 mm.
I then open a person.jpg and want to add this person to my PSD as another layer.
The file person.jpg is 323 mm X 111 mm.
I resize person.jpg to 30mm x 10 mm. The image now shows this new size.
Using the move tool, I drag the person.jpg file on top of the original PSD file, but it is way to huge.
In fact only a small portion of the person.jpg can be seen.
How do I properly resize the person.jpg so it will fit within the boundaries of the original PSD project?

Make person.jpg the identical size and resolution of the PSD then save and close it. Go back to your PSD and click:
File >> Place
Then navigate again to your jpeg in the folder. Use the smart object corner handle to re-size/scale.
You could also try File >> Place with the 30 x 10 jpeg
