Adding "logon path =" keyword in smb.conf

Greetings,
I was looking how to disable roaming profiles for windows users, and there is a keyword in samba configuration, where if you set it to blank like following:
logon path =
it will effectively disable roaming profiles.
However, when I add this line in [General] section of /etc/smb.conf, and then later do some changes with GUI tools in Windows files services, these GUI tools (Server Admin, Workgroup Manager) will remove this keyword. I tried putting this in /etc/smb.conf.template as well - no help.
Any idea how to make this keyword GUI tools friendly so that it stays in /etc/smb.conf permanently ?

>Any idea how to make this keyword GUI tools friendly so that it stays in /etc/smb.conf permanently ?
I don't think you can.
It's been a long-standing complaint of Server Admin - it's too happy to trounce any manual changes you've made. It's got better over the years/versions, but I still stick by the mantra that once you've edited by hand you can never go back to Server Admin (unless you're prepared to repeatedly re-apply your handcrafting).

  • Smb.conf?

    Hi,
After a completely flawless upgrade to Leopard on my Mac Pro, a so-so upgrade leading to a wipe and clean install on my Powerbook, I am now trying to get my mac mini updated to Leopard. The mini acts as a mini home server for music and acts as an email and file server to a win xp laptop and the aforementioned Macs. My problem has been (and I've seen many many posts on this) is that what worked with no problem in Tiger seems to be completely broken in Leopard. The WinXP laptop cannot connect to the Mini. When I try to connect via SMB from one of the Macs it says that it is unable to connect etc. (I can connect via AFP however).
One thing that is definitely new/different with Leopard is that /etc/smb.conf seems to have very little control over how smbd behaves. Has anyone figured out where all the parameters for smb.conf are coming from? I would like the mini to act as a domain server and WINS server (things I had running previously with no problems, pre-upgrade). I see no way of switching the "no" to "yes" via smb.conf even when I've tried adding an "include" file to the end of smb.conf.
Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

..."One thing that is definitely new/different with Leopard is that /etc/smb.conf seems to have very little control over how smbd behaves. Has anyone figured out where all the parameters for smb.conf are coming from?"...
My understandng is that many of the problems of users trying to set things in '/etc/smb.conf' comes from the 'include = /var/run/smb.conf' line near the end of the file, overriding user settings in "/etc/smb.conf". I would have thought that any settings entered after that line (including additional "includes") would have taken precedence.
At least some of the contents of "/var/run/smb.conf" seem to come from the file "/System" > "Library" > "CoreServices" > "SmbFileServer.bundle" > "Resources" > "DesktopDefaults.plist". While it isn't always clear (to me, anyway) how that file is interpreted to generate "/var/run/smb.conf", it might be worth a look...

  • [SOLVED]Setting up Arch to read CIFS shares but no smb.conf

I am trying to ACCESS CIFS shares from another computer. Other clients can access these shares without issue. I am NOT trying to host files from Arch.
Reading I have done: wiki pages on SAMBA and SMBCLIENT.
Reading the SMBCLIENT wiki page, it apparently states that only the package smbclient should be installed, which I did.
But, following the SMBCLIENT wiki, it shows to issue:
    #smbclient -L
    #smbclient
both error saying smb.conf can not be read. BTW, is the -L to just list the shares available from any place?
    Questions:
    1. So, should smb.conf be created to use smbclient? This package evidently does not install smb.conf in any form.
    2. Does the SAMBA package need to be installed to use smbclient? Samba does install a smb.conf.something.
Any tips you have so I can read CIFS shares will be appreciated.
    Thanks
    steve.

Reporting my results at resolving my issues
    1. installing smbclient provides the described ftp-like environment while accessing CIFS shares. It works fine. I used
    $smbclient //OMV/steve -Usteve%omv
to access my share on the OMV server. I could list, get and put files. I still get the message about no smb.conf file but it works.
    2. Installing gvfs-smb package allowed Thunar to display the shares. In my case, I do a Ctrl-L and then smb://OMV/steve and I can display the shared content perfectly! Click to remember password or it apparently does not work.
    Hope this helps someone.
    Steve.

Adding redirect path and  pattern in Lion server for configuring software update server.Any changes

Ok, after days of browsing on the forum I found the following hint on another discussion related to AFP access:
"This may be a service ACL issue.
It turns out one of the latest Apple updates turned on Service ACL's which caused AFP connections to be  blocked. Once I fixed the Service ACL in Server Admin... all connections and Single Sign On worked."
Well, after allowing access to all services to all users with Server Admin, we were finally able to log in the server with our admin account...
So, there must have been an update that turned on ACL's which caused even our local access, probably for OD/Kerberos, on the server to be restricted.

  • Sync prob of updatin info from WDM to smb.conf using smb protocol

    Hi,
I would appreciate if somebody could help me as i'm trying hard to solve my server's problem but could not find any solutions. My Mac OSX Server is running as a Dual 2.3GHZ PowerPC G5 and the current version is 10.4.11. When i tried to create a new sharepoint volume which is located at the XServe Raid or editing the permissions of the existing sharepoint volume, it was not able to update the smb.conf and i was not able to view the volumes using 'smb' command. I'm not sure if this lies with the synchronization problem between the workgroup manager and smb.conf file. From the Server Admin under the Window service, there's an error message displayed as follow:
    /SourceCache/samba/samba-100.12/samba/source/smbd/service.c:make_connection(805)
Is there any way where i could fix the files as I have no idea of where the files reside in the system?
    Thank you!
    Cheers,
    Stephanie

Don't know what your issue has to do with 'Using Mac OS X Tiger'. That is the forum you've posted in but I see you are running 10.5 Leopard. Perhaps posting in the 'Mac OS X Server' forum would help.

  • Change settings fo Samba(SMB) via smb.conf has no effect in 10.5 nor 10.6

    Hello,
I would like to change some stuff of my Samba Configuration on my MacBook and PowerMac (10.6.2 and 10.5.8). But on both OS X Versions changing /etc/smb.conf doesn´t do anything and /var/db/smb.conf is written automatically, so how can i make sure the changes will be done correct and permanent.
    thx
    T.

Had a further play with my system. It seems as though smbclient respects the content in /etc/smb.conf. I tried using the -d4 debug option and my adjustments made in smb.conf were used.
However Finder seems to be broken and ignores smb.conf. Feedback sent to Apple.
    Try smbclient //ip-address-of-NAS/share-name -W workgroupname -U username -d4
    and see what happens.

  • Space added to path when using graphics extension

    Hi,
I'm having a strange problem.  I use the 'chart' element of BSP extension 'graphics', but this doesn't show me the generated graph in the portal.
I've done some debugging and I've found out that this extension uses the method cl_graph_util=>publish_blob for putting the generated image in the server cache and generates a url inside the application.
For retrieving the current application.  This method uses
    path = request->get_header_field( '~PATH_TRANSLATED' ).
Now after this call, the content of the variable 'path' is '/sap/bc/bsp/arinso/EAQ_BP /output/result.do'.  So a space is added after the name of my BSP application and before the subfolder that contains my controller.
Can anyone tell me where I might have misconfigured something that causes this?
    Thanks,
    Tim

I couldn't find what causes it, but I've solved it by putting this code, just before the chart tag.
      data l_path type string.
      l_path = request->get_header_field( '~PATH_TRANSLATED' ).
      condense l_path no-gaps.
      request->set_header_field( name = '~PATH_TRANSLATED'
      value = l_path ).

  • Adding plural to keywords

I am starting to make a hierical keyword sets for my need & wondering where do I add plurals?

    or
    Nature

Another thing I am thinking is to have multiple keyword catalog for each category, how can this work, when I import any catalog it gets merged with present keyword catalog.
    Jesse

From the Controlled Vocabulary web site (http://www.controlledvocabulary.com)
    When Writing Keywords
Keep in mind that in most larger online systems, the captions are fully searchable as well, so it may be only necessary to create keywords for those words in the caption that also need plurals, variants and synonyms.
Use plural spelling only, unless the spelling is different than just adding an "s." For example, just using "cats" is sufficient, but if you use "babies" also include "baby."
Use gerunds not verbs. For example, use "running", not "run"
Do not capitalize unless it's the name of a place or a proper noun (most search functions/search engines are NOT case sensitive, but this makes for easier reading).
List alternative spellings for international audience (color / colour, gray / grey, etc.)
In order to copy and paste into the keyword field in Photoshop CS, use a comma and then a space between each term. For example: xxxx, xxx xxxx, xxxxx, term, word phrase, two word phrase, etc. You can can also separate terms using a semi-colon or even a hard carriage return.

  • Adding virtual paths with the web listener....

    Hi ,
I have installed the Forms6i Server on RedHat 4. After its installation the installer notifies that some entries should be added(some virtual paths with the web listener).
    For example :
    /forms60java for physical dir ocldev/forms60/java
    /jinitiator for physical dir /orcldev/jinit/doc
    e.t.c.
Can you please specify this file which should the above be added...????
    Thanks...a lot
    Sim

Because of some relink errors ... i've tried to install it (Forms Server) on a WinXp machine....
Since i have not installed any other web server , i used the IIS and at least - i have not tested with a simple form- i have seen the test form provided by Oracle....(You know one form which notes: "Forms server successfully installed").
As regards, the doc ... it points out what you've written :
Apache and any other web server assuming that some specific virtual paths to be added.....
Note: I think that those 'relink errors' occur because some of the RedHat packages are missing...
    Thanks...

    Hi,
How do I use SAP GUI 7.10 to add these logon groups to my logon pad?
    Please guide.
    Regards,
    Visshwas

    Hi,
If you have more than 1 instance then you will be adding these instances to a partcular logon group at the time of post installation. Clicking on the SAP system in the logon pad you will be getting the logon group, message server helps you in logging into the particular instance.logon group helps in load balancing.

  • Adding Metadata deletes keywords in Bridge 2.1.1.9

I had keyworded a large number of images. I then noticed that I had not applied my usual Metadata info (IPTC Core) (copyright, name, address, etc). I went to the Metadata panel, selected and clicked to Append my 2008 Metadata to the large number of selected and previously keyworded images.
The Metadata was written to the image, and all the keywords were removed. I do not believe that this problem has occurred with previous versions. I thought that Append Metadata would do just that, i.e. add the metadata to the keywords in the IPTC location. I would think that this keyword removal would occur if I had selected Replace Metadata.
What am I doing wrong, other than not adhering religiously to my workflow and inserting Metadata before the Keywords as I usually do.

I found the following info in Bridge Help:
Apply metadata templates to files in Bridge
    Select one or more files.
Choose either of the following commands from the Metadata panel menu or the Tools menu:
Append Metadata, followed by the name of the template. This command applies the template metadata only where no metadata value or property currently exists in the file. (Append isnt available if youve selected multiple files.)
Replace Metadata, followed by the name of the template. This command completely replaces any existing metadata in the file with the metadata in the template.
Note, Append Metadata is available regardless of number of images selected, and deletes Keywords regardless of number of images selected.

  • Bridge freezes after adding a new keyword & wont allow the keywords to work

when I am in bridge and working away - ill create a new keyword -so select new keyword, type in the name and then hit enter etc... when I go the new keyword which I have just created - it wont allow me to check the box (so tick it & allocate it to an image OR any image) - I must re-start bridge and then it works...
is anyone else having this issue?
    im using Bridge CS 3 - 2.1.1.9
    thanks in advance!

Yes, where you click is critical, and it varies from word to word sometimes, seems to be a little to right of where you expect.
According the the knowledgebase, compacting cache gets rid of files that are not associated with anything anymore.
CS2 used all 3 (Ctrl, Alt, Shift) keys, but CS3 and 4 can use just the Ctrl key to reset preferences.

seems to have worked like a charm thanks dj; and I now have 2012/13/14 back on LR 4 while I look forward to LR6. I will worry about older files if I need them and will keep LR5 alive for that
