Adding metadata at import --why is this much easier to do in LR?

Adding metadata at import time is a pain. The presets have helped a bit but Aperture still needs improvement. I have four areas of trouble:
1. In order to fill out a metadata preset I have to create a new temporary image version or risk changing the metadata for an existing master, fill out the fields, save the preset, delete the temporary version. I can't create a new metadata preset at the moment of import I have to do the steps above in advance of importing.
2. If i want to have a metadata view that has the 12 fields I use on import but only have 4 fields filled out in advance I can't do that without first selecting the preset then selecting the view with the blank fields.
3. In the import panel the image Information block, Files Location/filename block and Time Adjustment block take up so much room that on my MBP-15 the metadata block is nearly off the bottom of the screen.
4. Whatever metadata I use must apply to all images. There is no way to have different metadata for different images at the time of import. This requires me to open the project to add image specific metadata after import or run the import more than once for different images.
If anyone has workflow solutions or workarounds for theses bottlenecks please let me know. Here is hoping that v2 will improve on these points.

Sorry if I gave offense. I wasn't trying to start a flame war about Aperture vs. LR or whatever-that's not enlightening. I expect that for many years to come Aperture will be my primary digital imaging workspace.
I am still tinkering with Lightroom and will do so until my demo version expires in 25 more days. I think that Aperture is a dramatically better program than Lightroom. I think that over the next couple of years the gap will widen even further and the advantages of Apple's sound engineering decisions will really start to show up in v2 v3 and beyond.
Still when I work in the current version of Lightroom I find myself processing images more quickly and spend less time fiddling around with the program's UI than while working in Aperture. I have noticed other posts commenting on the same thing.
If there are other users who like me love Aperture but find their work going faster in Lightroom doesn't it make sense for us to have a discussion with each other to find out...why?

Error Writing Metadata thumbnail icon, why is this?

When I take a layered TIFF file from my Lightroom 3 photo library and make creative changes to the file in Photoshop CS5, when I save the file, close it and return to Lightroom, the image thumbnail in the Library Grid mode displays a warning exclamation point. Hovering over the icon displays the tooltip Error Writing Metadata. Can anyone tell me why this is happening and how to remedy the situation the right way?
Clicking the warning (exclamation point) icon present two options: "Import Settings from Disc" or "Overwrite Settings"

I found a pattern, this happens when I open and edit the file with gedit. Even when I am very carefully just push the del button. Mabe gedit add some inviseble chars when it saves.

What is the iCloud status of these tracks?
You can add icloud status column to song view - go to menu > view> view options and tick box. This will tell you what has been Matched, Uploaded, Purchased, Inelligible, Duplicate or Waiting.

LIGHTROOM 4.3 CROPS MY CR2s ON IMPORT WHY IS THIS?

Is it something to do with my settings or the fact it's a file from a canon 650d? I have tried to troubleshoot and had zero success. I get the image preview which looks fine, then hit import and watch my nicely compossed portrait loose the top and bottom of the image. Is there a solution now? as the most recent posts about this kind of thing seem to be dated back to the end of last year. It would be great to be able to edit the image in full. Cheers.

"EOS 650D can not only shoot at the current 3:2, but also can shoot at aspect ratios of 4:3 1:1 and 16:9. This allows users to match the playback environment for displaying the images. Images with any of the aspect ratios also be resized"
It is likely you have set your camera to capture in an other than the stock 3:2 Aspect Ratio. If you are using LR 4.3, you should be able to reset the crop in the develop module to retain the missing areas. Check your camera's settings to make sure you aren't shooting in one these modes.

Problems with special effect pictures on importing, why is this happening?

I have taken pic in expressive mode on my camera ( panasonic fz200) and when i have imported them they don't have the effect that I used, is there something I have to do on importing or do I have to change photos setting on my own in develop module or is something at the camera I have to change.

If you shot RAW, Lightroom will not read the expressive mode setting from the camera and apply them to the photo. It should work shooting JPG as the setting are "baked in".

Why is this much difference between z2 and z1 of screen time,web browsing, video playback?

i have sony z1 phone...it's very nice but battery is not good. i have 5-5:30 of screen time from 100% down to 3-4%

Cannot open sim drawer on iphone 6 to insert sim. why is this not easier?

I have a new iphone and cannot open the drawer to insert the sim. there appears to be no explanation in any of the guides as to exactly how hard you have to insert the tool, am i supposed to be pressing something, hooking the tool onto something? A picture of the tool and an open drawer is not very useful, if the drawer does not open. has anyone got any experience of inserting sims they can pass on??

You need to press the tool into the hole fairly firmly and the drawer will spring open. You may not be pressing hard enough.

I bought a pre-paid phone card . Why is this?

I bought a pre-paid phone card and my time was added but it was not added as my $45 unlimited plan and I bought the $45 phone card at the Target store by my house. I also bought $10 worth of extra bridge data with my credit card this month and it has not been added as well. Why is this? If this does not get figured out I am going to be switching to a different phone service provider.

I definitely understand needing to make sure this time is added correctly! That's very important. Our prepaid team are the only ones able to view prepaid accounts. When I download pictures from my camera, they turn out a nice big size in iPhoto; other pictures that have been e-mailed to me or imported from older libraries/other computers show up small. Why is this, and how can I make them all the larger size?

When I download pictures from my digital camera into iPhoto, they turn out a nice large size (usually almost the full screen), but when somebody e-mails me pictures and I import them into iPhoto, or when I transfer old photos from an old library into my new iPhoto library, they turn out very small--not exactly thumbnail-size, but too small to use for calendars or photo books. I don't know much about computers, so I don't know how this happened. Also, I can't find any discernible pattern to why this happens with some pictures and not others--ie: what I described above is usually true, but I have had e-mailed photos or old photos turn out the way I want them, which is in the larger size in iPhoto. Why is this happening, and how can I make all the pictures the larger size?

Some mail programs, including Apple Mail, can reduce the size of images that are attached to a message. It's happening at the sender's end, and all you can do is ask the sender for a larger image.

If older photos are missing it may be because photo stream photos are only held in iCloud for 30 days. After that they are removed from iCloud but will remain (up to 1000 photos) on your device until deleted. Also, only photos taken after enabling photo stream are added to your photo stream, and only when the camera is closed, your device is connected to wifi and you have at least 20% battery life remaining.
To transfer the missing photos you can either create a shared photo stream containing them and invite yourself to it (see http://help.apple.com/icloud/#mmc0cd7e99), import the photos to your computer and sync them to your iPad, or use an app like PhotoSync to transfer them to your iPad over wifi.

My daughter has had her Razr for about 9 months now. About two weeks ago she picked up her phone in the morning on her way to school when she noticed two cracks, both starting at the camera lens. One goes completely to the bottom and the other goes sharply to the side. She has never dropped it and me and my husband went over it with a fine tooth comb. We looked under a magnifying glass and could no find any reason for the glass to crack. Not one ding, scratch or bang. Our daughter really takes good care of her stuff, but we still wanted to make sure before we sent it in for repairs. Well we did and we got a reply from Motorola with a picture of the cracks saying this was customer abuse and that it is not covered under warranty. Even though they did not find any physical damage to back it up. Well I e-mailed them back and told them I did a little research and found pages of people having the same problems. Well I did not hear from them until I received a notice from Fed Ex that they were sending the phone back. NOT FIXED!!! I went to look up why and guess what there is no case open any more for the phone. It has been wiped clean. I put in the RMA # it comes back not found, I put in the ID #, the SN# and all comes back not found. Yet a day earlier all the info was there. I know there is a lot more people like me and all of you, but they just don't want to be bothered so they pay to have it fix, just to have it do it again. Unless they have found the problem and only fixing it on a customer pay only set up. I am furious and will not be recommending this phone to anyone. And to think I was considering this phone for my next up grade! NOT!!!!

The events may be incorrectly sorted. Try to sort the events by date, while in "Events" view.
Go to the "View" menu: Sort Photos > By Date > Descending. That should bring the most recent events to the top of the list.

That is your answer then.
Large is 960x540
Medium is 640x480 (or 720x480)
Mobile is probably 480x272.
It is offering you the sizes that make sense given the size of your source material.
As a trick, you might try this. In your project, put a short 640x480 clip in the project as the first clip of the project. Then keep the rest of the project as is. See if it will let you share now in Medium. It will not look as good, because there are not enough pixels to cover the Medium size, but it might work.
