Adding metadata to mp4 files to show as "TV Show"

I am looking for some help in adding metadata to mp4/m4v files so that they autoload as "TV SHOWS" when imported into iTunes. I have several files so it would be helpful if anyone knows of a way to do batches of files.
Thanks to the Mac world out there for anyone's help.

You can set a whole batch of files to "TV Show," but bring them into iTunes first. This is as easy to selecting the batch and running any kind of plug-in on them.
Videos all go to the Movies category by default, but that's only temporary. Right after you drop them into your library, find them under Recently Added or Movies. Select them all, and press Ctrl-I to Get Info. Change the video kind to "TV Show." Now all of these files will appear in the TV library, but of course you'll have to fill in the series name and season. Those can also be filled in as a batch.

  • Adding metadata to .mp4 files or .flv files

I just recently discovered that I cannot tag .mp4 files or.flv files with metadata in bridge? Anyone know of a workaround to add metadata to these files within bridge besides using Quicktime?
    Thanks

    .....Seriously??.....
Nothing- Oh well I guess I'm the only one with this issue.
Anyways if anyone cares to know- the workaround to this issue is this:
(well it's really not a workaround as much as an upgrade)
When checking out the upgrade trial to my CS4 Suite I found that Premiere Pro CS4 can export to h.264 video as .f4v and these files can be tagged with metadata within bridge just like .jpg's- Nice. Only problem is the preview of these .f4v files do not fit the preview window- very odd- I have to use the filmstrip view to view these videos otherwise they get cut off by the normal preview window
Oh well that's a minor gripe at least I can tag these with metadata
Maybe this helps someone because I know it drove me mad trying to figure this whole thing out recently

  • Why do .mp4 files not show up in the Finder/work in iDVD?

    Hi
I downloaded some .mp4 files from the internet on my Windows PC and as per usual they are played by quicktime on my PC.
When I saved them to my external HDD and plugged it into my MBP, the folder containing the mp4 files does not appear, and neither will they import into iDVD where I am trying to burn them.
I am a new MBP user (and a happy one so far) so I am well aware I coukd be missing something here, but I thought that .mp4 was practically guaranteed to play on a Mac especially given the relationship to video iPods?
Thanks in advance for your contributions!
Macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Thanks, but after installing this nothing seems to have changed except that if I download the .mp4 files from my Mac they appear on the Desktop. They can be played with Quicktime but if they are played in VLC there is no sound
The folder on my external HDD which contains the .mp4 files still does not ahow up.
    I am now very confused!
Does anyone have more ideas, I'll try whatever!
    Thanks

  • Adding metadata to Targa files

I'm trying to add custom data to a .tga file. This doesn't need to be standard EXIF information - this is custom data that I would read with a custom tool. Currently all I'm trying to add is a file path.
Usually, I would just add this using File Info, but with Targa files, information I add using File Info is not saved to the file (which is a bug in my opinion - I'll go look for a place to report that after I post this).
I haven't messed with the Advanced section of File Info much. The only thing I know how to do with that is to create .XMP sidecar files. Maybe I'm missing something there.
As far as I can tell, the Targa file format supports a 256-byte "Image Identification Field" as well as unlimited user data at the end of the file, so it should be possible to add any data I want to a Targa with the right tool.
Does anyone know a plugin or technique that will allow me to add metadata to my targas?
I'm using CS2, although we have several versions here at work so I'd be happy to learn of a way to do it in CS3 too.

  • Adding metadata to .m1v files in Bridge CS3

I have video files (no audio) .m1v files that I need to tag with Metadata in bridge. One problem when I try to do this in Bridge CS3 version 2.1.1.9- I get an error message saying
"The file "filename.m1v" cannot store XMP metadata. No changes will occur"
Does anyone know of a workaround to this problem
2 solutions I have already considered are to
    1. rename the files to .mpg, but there are many files and I do not want to corrupt any of them
    2. Don't export to .m1v files- instead use .mpg ALWAYS- (export silent audio track)
So anyone? any other ideas of what can be done
    Thanks
    Tony

    Thanks again Jim
This was not the answer I wanted to hear. So I contacted Adobe directly- They are very quick- they responded within 24 hours via email of course and reiterated what you said- I guess I just needed "official" word from Adobe, before I went to plan B
Anyways If anyone ever has problems like this where you got a bunch of .m1v files and you need to tag them with metadata- I suggest to do what I am doing and download tmpegenc it is a great little piece of software that will convert your .m1v files to .mpg files that you can now tag within bridge, Beauty
I will NEVER export to .m1v AGAIN
    Thanks TMPEG
    Thanks Jim and Thanks Adobe
    Best Wishes

  • Bridge CS5 - Adding metadata to RAW files is hit and miss

Can someone help me??? Bridge CS5 will only add the metadata I enter to the files it feels like doing. It is hit and miss. Some files will add it, and other files will get the message "There was an error writing metadata to 100824_Banks_06.NEF". It will go through my whole folder of RAW files, then other times it will allow one or two of the files to get the information. I am going crazy! Is this a preference setting issue, or what?

    Tai Lao wrote:
Bridge is the weakest of all Adobe applications I use.  It suffers from the same issues since its first release, when we were told to forgive the teething problems of any version 1 application.  Now it's in version 4.x.
I actually spent most of the last two days wrestling with Bridge, and getty pretty annoyed with it. The "Error writing metadata" bug caused me no end of problems in trying to reorganise my keywording of 20,000 photos, and turning the air blue in the process.
I agree that Bridge seems to be the poor relation in the Creative Suite. I call it the Less Glamourous Sister. It needs to be 64-bit to host 64-bit Camera Raw, and it needs to manage resources faster and more efficiently.
I've spent a fair amount of time watching Bridge's activity with a resources monitor utility, and it's a very busy lady. It seems to poll several drives every second or two, accessing the registry, disk-based settings and library files regularly too, even when it appears to be doing nothing. And, even though I had indexed and cached my whole 20,000 photo collection, Bridge insists on recreating some thumbnails and previews at random intervals.*
I decided that the anti-virus software suggestion was a red herring in my case (I now realise this is the Mac forum anyway). Photos which gave an error became subsequently locked for several minutes, and I had to edit the sidecar files by hand. In the end, I worked out that, even though there is no on-screen indication of activity, Bridge is quietly working its way through every item in the Content pane, and it is this action which seems to coincide with the Metadata Error. Wait for it to end, and chances are much reduced, but not fully removed.
Oh, and Adobe's customer treatment might be debatable, but that helpful customer you quoted was a regular abuser of other forum users, so I like to see a silver lining from that post.

  • Help mem please - adding metadata to iweb files changed to RTFD

Hi guys - can you help me please.
I've just followed some of the threads to try and add metadata and keywords to my site.
I thought I'd cracked it. I opened the .html in Finer/idisk/web/sites/iweb/my site name.co.uk/page.html I wanted to add data to. I opend it with text edit, got a blank page but typed in the code I wanted. saved, closed and now it has changed to an RTFD file. What have I done or is this right.
Can anyone reassure me or explain what I have done wrong........ I've republished the original page but it hasn't changed back to .html and the rftd still remains there.
Thank-you so much from someone who is learning alot from these forums......(but not always getting it quite right yet.....)
    Maxine

    Hi Tom,
Thanks for this - I'd overlooked the preferences. Can I ask you what the best thing is to do now - should I delete the site on idisk and republish so that I can re do the page that is now an RTFD correctly or should I be able to change it back to an .html file.
    Really appreciate your help,
    Maxine

  • Adding metadata to wave files on export

I capture audio within Logic and export the track as a wave file. How do I add metadata such as Title, Author Etc to the wave file? In addition how can I add cover art?

Wave files do not have much support for metadata, only a simple header is contained in the file. Try using AIFF if you're looking to preserve the original sound quality. AIFF have good support for the metadata types you mention.

  • I want to force iTunes to organize my mp3/mp4 files as I want and show that when I launch iTunes

I find file management in iTunes to be very unApple like. Periodically I import mp3 or mp4 files that show up under music when I launch iTunes. I would like to name and order them by date and put them in a folder, album, or some collection item to facilitate finding and using them later. Copy and paste does not work,
drag and drop does not work. If I go to where the items are stored as music files I can achieve a named collection of these files ordered as I wish. That, however, does not manifest itself back in iTunes.
One of two things appears to be the case. Either I cannot manage iTunes as it thinks it owns everything or I simply cannot uses the apple file management paradigm in use for the past two decades on an Apple computer running iTunes. Perhaps both of these are true. Another possibility is to install a different program over which I have control and disable iTunes from ever touching one of my imported files.
It is possible that Apple intentionally obfuscated file management with iTunes to simplify their commercial management of the iTunes store, and while that is a possibility, understanding it is enigmatic.
Another quandary is the concept of album. Under "New", playlists are mentioned, but not albums or folders. Yet both may show up mysteriously. There must be a ghost in my computer.
Help and psychoanalysis will be appreciated.
    RAZ

Since there are no obvious answers to this dilemma, I have changed my thinking on the subject. It is a title like giving up on teaching a pig to sing. Since I can organize all my mp3 files anyway I choose and furthermore can name them anything I choose I have done so and stored them under a named folder in the Music folder. I can play them with Quick Time and never have to go through iTunes at all.
    Case closed.

  • Black Thumbnails for MP4 files in iPhoto

The MP4 files from my digital camera show up as black icons in iPhoto 09. I don't recall this happening before Snow Leopard was installed. Some MP4 files work show thumbnails. Regardless, all the MP4 files DO open via iPhoto, and the thumbnails can be seen in the Finder.
These files are MPEG4 h.264/AAC codec. If I run these files through MPEG Streamclip to remake them as the same file type, then the thumbnails DO appear in iphoto when reimported. Comparing the "get info" data on both types of the files (ones with black thumbs and ones with real thumbs) shows no difference in file types.
Short of having to convert all my small videos and reimporting them, or getting another camera who's MPEG4 is consistent with iPhoto, I'm at a loss. I have done a rather complete internet search and several others report a similar problem. The camera I am using is Samsung TL34HD.
Appreciate any help short of what I am currently doing (converting to the same file format and reimporting the videos in batches).

thanks larry. when i open in quicktime and go to the first frame, it is not black. also, for some reason, when i import the movies into itunes, the thumbnails show up fine (i.e. no black frame). i'm guessing that it has something to do with how iPhoto generates the thumbnail (vs. iTunes), but i don't know enough to change these settings.
if the first frame is in fact black, do you know if there is a way to force iphoto to use something other than the first frame when generating thumbnails?
    thanks very much.

  • I am trying to transfer my movies (mp4 files) to my IPad, but they are not showing up on the IPad. I have 13 movies showing on my IPad that they are in ICloud. I've sync'd the movies I want to the IPad, but only one is showing under the "movies" folder. ?

I have been trying to transfer some different movies from my PC to my IPad, but they are not showing in the "movie" folder. I have sync'd the movies (these are mp4 files) that I wanted transfered, but only one is showing in the folder. There are 13 other movies in the folder that have the ICloud symbol in the corner of their picture. I understand that I can pull those movies from ICloud any time I want to watch them, but I want to watch the ones that I've just sync'd with my IPad. How do I find them? After I checked the movies I wanted, I "applied" them and watched it sync and copy the wanted movies to my IPad. Now what?  Thanks.

There are some good programs that you could use to convert the format, Handbrake or Mpegstreamclip are two good free ones. Convert them to MP4 and then try importing them again.

pls help. i change the file preview of a movie file, and it shows that i have changed the preview in finder but when i open the folder on my dock, it shows the still of the movie instead.
the image shows the film the hangover as an example. the movie poster is visible in finder, but reverts to a default movie still from the dock. this only seems to occur for mp4 files.

its nothing to do with itunes, its movies form the internet. i got the file preview by taking an image off the internet, pressing command c and pasting it on top of the small icon in the get info section

  • Adding metadata to my initial backup files

I have a hard drive on my PC exclusively for image backup and I 'copy' all my pictures there automatically, when I first download them from the camera, using Adobe Bridge. In theory at least, this set should never be needed. All my subsequent processing takes place on the prime set in the 'C' drive, using Photoshop CS4. Short of completely overwriting and replacing all my backups, is there any easy way of just appending my keywords and rankings to all the untouched files on my second drive?
Note.. All images retain their original ID numbers exactly as shot and I do not use Lightroom.

    Hi RWSP and thanks,
    So...
If I understand you correctly, with 'raw files' I can now select and copy (Ctrl+Drag&Drop) just, all the small hidden sidecar.xmp files, from my C drive over to my camera-raw backups on the second drive. This will non-destructively update everything, the keywords, ratings and the ARC processing data, without touching the raw files them selves in any way?
But for .jpg's I will have to copy-and-replace things with the processed picture files in order to add the key words etc.? In effect overwriting my camera copies with the Photoshop-processed.jpg versions. ...
Right.  You can copy the xmp sidecar files to your backup.  This will back up the keywords, ratings, acr edit data and (assuming no file name changes) will associate the metadata with the original unchanged raw file.*  SFAIK there is no way to have metadata for jpeg files written to sidecar files; so you're right: you would need to  backup your updated jpegs to preserve the metadata you applied.  But if you're shooting raw, would you have many jpegs files from camera?
    * Note:  The above applies for camera-native raw format files; may or may not be true for DNG native format camera raw files.  Since DNG is designed to be updated with added metadata, it may be that ratings and acr metadata would be written to the original dng files.

  • Metadata in video (mp4) files

I just converted 14 years of DV Video-Material to mp4 clips using handbrake and imported the clips in a newly created LR3 catalogue.
So far so good. After tagging the clips with keywords and descriptions I tried to save the metadata into the clips and here the proble starts.
As far as I know mp4 files are capable to carry metadata. When I use itunes or other programs like SimpleMovieX I can save and read metatdata directly from mp4 files. But in LR3 none of this data is displayed when I try to import a mp4 file already containing metadata or when I try to read metadata from an already imported file. It seems like LR3 is solely managing this kind of information in its database and there is no data interchange between the metadata section of the mp4 files and LR3. My expectation was obviously different.
    Does anybody made similar experiences?

    I think that is correct.
