Adding mobileme gallery content in iWeb with a personal domain

I've been building gorgeous looking pages in iWeb this year which I have attached to a personal domain.
I'm having trouble adding a movie that I have published on my mobileme gallery as widget is telling me there is nothing available. Could this be because I have iWeb pointed towards my own domain even though it's hosted by mobileme?
I'm confused and really want to add this video as something over than through a hyperlink.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks,
Paul.

Paul:
If you have a MMe gallery that you want separate from the others but still have viewable in an iWeb site and page set its setting in iPhoto to be hidden from the rest of the gallery:
Visit the gallery online and copy it's URL address. Add that address to iFrame code in an HTML snippet as I've done in this demo page: MobileMe Galleries and Quicktime Movies (the code is shown on the page). You can set the gallery to disiplay in any of the availablemodes, grid, mosaic, etc., by using the URL for that mode.
The visitor can view the gallery but will not be able to go to your other galleries. Just a way to post a single gallery to your web page.

  • IWeb 8.0 - personal domain name publishing

I have created a site and published to my MobileMe account and also published - to my personal domain name, to which the site tells me I have successfully published to the new name/site. I click on visit the site - and it comes up as address unknown. Repeatedly - for two days now.
The site is published as can be - and yet, it still does not come up under my personal domain name. It will come up as my .mac.(username) - address, but not the personal name that I want. The domain is active and shows in my MobileMe account as active, so what's the disconnect? What step am I missing?

I dunno, but MobileMe live chat support is now 24/7 — see this announcement. Other Apple support options are here.

  • MobileMe Gallery features in iweb?

I have started to create a Family website using iWeb and want to be able to allow family members to upload and download pictures to their own albums on the site.  It looks like a MobileMe Gallery would provide that type of functionality, but I do not have a MobileMe account and can no longer sign up for one.  Is their anything in iWeb or iCloud that would provide this same type of functionality?

iWeb just made the layout and appears to not be expected to continue developement.
MobileMe Gallery does not currently appear to have an equal in iCloud.

Remember we are in the digital age where things constantly change. iPhoto support sharing to Facebook and Flickr directly. If I were to hazzard a guess not many people, as an average, were publishing to MobileMe, opting for the other mentioned solutions. You and I might be part of a minority that did. It is possible that a similar feature will appear down the road, but for now... don't count on it.

  • MobileMe gallery movie in iweb too small

I posted my videoin my MobileMe gallery. I posted two sizes, iphone size and a HD size. I then use the MobileMe gallery widget to use that video in my website. I want the large size to show up in my website. Though it only allows me to resize to the small iphone size.
I'm thinking it's defaulting to the small size. Is there a way to have both sizes in my gallery, and use only the large size? Or do I just need two different files uploaded as two different movies.

  • HELP! Can I view a site I created with iWeb using a personal domain?

Sorry in advance if this question has already been addressed. I too am sort of a newbie to iWeb. I just purchased a domain name through Google Apps. I would like to create my website through iWeb using the domain name ("www.youngvoters08.com") that I already purchased through Google Apps.
At this point, I'm incredibly confused. Is it possible to type in my domain URL (that I purchased through Google Apps) and have my iWeb website come up? I set up my personal domain through .Mac and I even tried publishing its contents to a folder (that was even more confusing). The personal domain option says it will take up to 48 hours to link to my domain.
All I want for Christmas is to be able to type in "www.youngvoters08.com" and be directed to the site I created on iWeb (as opposed to creating my site through Google Apps). Is this at all possible? And does it require me to be patient for 48 hours?
I'm afraid that the .Mac personal domain option means that I have to have already created a website with another service provider, and it doesn't mean that the personal domain I already purchased ("www.youngvoters08.com") will take me to the website I created through iWeb. I'm also weary that I wasted $10.00 by buying a personal domain through Google Apps, especially if I cannot create the contents of my website through iWeb.
Did that make any sense at all??? (Sorry for the confusion and redundancy:)

If you have both sites on one domain file - that is they both load into iWeb at once - click on the name of site 2 in the sidebar and drag it to the top of the list so that it is now in the #1 position. Now do a "Publish all to .Mac".
Your domain name URL is being directed to the index.html file in the Finder/Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites folder. This file opens the site that is at the top of the list in iWeb or, if you are publishing your sites individually, the last site that you uploaded.

  • How do I publish from iWeb to my personal domain

Can someone tell me the exact steps I have to take to modify iWeb to publish my albums to my Personl domain. I found some instaruction about going to my domain cPanel and adding a new CNAME. The problem is that it asks for a NAME and a CNAME and I don't know what to put there. Now do I know to modify iWeb to replce the std "gallery.me.com"   I don't know what to change that too.
    My cPanel  asks for...
    Add a CNAME Record
    Name:
    CNAME:
If my domanname is www.peter.com, what do I use in the name field ?  What should the CNAME be also ?
This is supposed to, after correcting iWeb, allow and iWeb publish to my personal domain.
    Can anyone help me withthis?
    TIA,
    Peter

Your original post did not in fact state anywhere that you had a MobileMe account.
Also, you seem to be getting a little confused here with terminology which does make a difference.
Rather than a domain, what you in fact have is a domain name that is registered through hostpapa.com - it is not hosted as you say, but registered with them.
Also, iWeb will not and does not 'publish directly to your own domain'.  iWeb cannot publish to a domain name or anything - you need a hosting account to be able to publish a website - do you have this?  If not, then you will need to purcahse hosting too.
So, if you want to publish your site directly to hostpapa instead of MobileMe, then CNAME is NOT involved in this at all - you DON'T need it.  CNAME is only a method of forwarding that you would use to forward your domain name to web.me.com when published on MobileMe.  If you do not want to use MobileMe any longer, then you don't need this.
So you say that you have registered a domain name with hostpapa?  Do you also have a hosting account with them too if they provide hosting?  If not, then you need to purcahse a hosting account from either them or some other company that provides hosting.
When you have your hosting account and assuming that you are using iWeb 09, open iWeb and then click on your site name and your publishing options with become available in the drop down menu - rather than picking publish to MobileMe, select the publish to ftp option instead and fill in your details such as ftp name, username and password and then upload your site after testing your connection.
If you are using iWeb 08, then you'll need to publish to a local folder and use Cyberduck or Yummy ftp etc to upload your site to your server instead.
CNAME is not involved and if you purcahse hosting from another company other than hostpapa, then you will probably have to alter your nameservers so that they point to where your site is now hosted.
If you want to ditch MobileMe, then you don't need to use CNAME at all - it just isn't involved here.

  • Uploading iWeb site to personal domain via FTP client (NOT .MAC)

    Hello,
I want to upload my iweb created website to my personal domain, in other words I do not want my domain to point to my .mac address.
I am downloading Cyberduck as my FTP client. Will I just send my whole "site" folder to my public folder at my personal domain? Will it be in the right order? How will I update each day? (Can I set up iWeb so that when I click "publish" it will update my personal domain?)
I was planning on using some wordpress plugins to modify my site. Will this work? I am totally lost, I had no idea I needed so much background info to blog outside of .mac! I guess I just want to design with iweb, and be able to use all the tools of my AN Hosting and wordpress.
Thanks for your help in advance!

Will I just send my whole "site" folder to my public folder at my personal domain?
You send the folder created by iWeb which has the same name as you gave your site inside the iWeb app, plus the index.html file which iWeb created alongside that folder.
How will I update each day?
By publishing again to a folder and uploading again via ftp.
(Can I set up iWeb so that when I click "publish" it will update my personal domain?)
No. If iWeb could do that you would not need an ftp program to start with.
I was planning on using some wordpress plugins to modify my site.
No idea, but generally speaking modifying iWeb to add stuff requires manual editing of the html after publishing and redoing it every time you republish.

  • Linking MobileMe gallery back to iWeb

I have created a iweb 08 site which links to my mobileMe galleries but once you are inside the main gallery which contains all of the galleries there is no way of linking back to my site.
    Am I missing something ?
    Thanks in advance...

The obvious solution is to not use Aperture to create your gallery.
Apple has included some dirt-easy ways to share your files via galleries that export directly from your iApps. The galleries purpose are to quickly share files, like an Apple version of YouTube. If you want more control over the pages you have to create them yourself using iWeb. Make a picture or a movie gallery in iWeb and you can link it to other pages and play with the format ad nauseam. This is not hard to do. You can drag a whole set of picts into an iWeb page and it automatically generates the picture table. One thing that I have found is that to keep the pictures in the order I wish I drag them one at a time. iWeb uses some crazy scheme to determine the order they are in otherwise. (It is not by filename which would be logical.) You can easily arrange them on the page but I don't like having to do the extra step.
I looked at my galleries in my iDisk to see if the html might be editable. From what I can tell there is not editable html since there is no index pages. There may be a way to include an html "back" snippet but I can't see how. Apple has intentionally disabled the user controls on these galleries.

  • Using MobileMe Gallery instead of iWeb 06 for eBay Picture Hosting

    img src="http://gallery.me.com/YOURUSERNAME/100016/DCP17093/web.jpg"
After a problem with iWeb '06 I discovered, with help from members here and on eBay, that I can use MM Gallery for eBay. You Control-Click your Gallery picture to get its URL and paste that into your item description.

    UPDATE!
There's a package of 3 html files, one that is called index.html. that can find the URL of a photo on the grid page of an iWeb photo page. When used it will look like this
I'll put the zipped folder on my Cellar site in a bit and post back here with the URL to download it.

  • Issues Adding MobileMe Gallery to Site Pages

    Hello,
I am trying to add a number of MobileMe Galleries to my site, from my online MobileMe galleries that are currently online. However, when I go to chose a gallery, it tells me there are no galleries to choose from. I have 8 or so galleries on my online gallery site, so what do I need to do to get it to see those galleries? Keep in mind, I am online!
    Thanks for your help!

If the mobileMe galleries do not show in the Gallery Widget, you can use a HTML Snippet and paste this code:
    <script src="http://gallery.mac.com/g/flash/photowidget_iefix.js" type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"></script>
    <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
    writeObj("http://gallery.me.com/MobileMeID/123456", 226, 199);
    </script>
The number is displayed in iPhoto or in the Browser Address field when you choose it from the web.

  • IWeb & Setting up Personal Domain Name is Brutal

I know I run the risk of getting this post taken down, but I have just spent six hours trying to have my iWeb pages sent to my domain page.
    Nothing has been more difficult.
    - There was no direction that I needed to get my domain name from another service.
    - There was no direction suggestions where to get my domain name. (I finally for one from godaddy.com)
    - The CNAME, adjustment, www etc. directions are AWFUL and absolutely no help.
There is so much more to complain about.
I am still hoping that someone can provide a point, by point directions as to how to point my domain name to my iWeb pages.
Nothing has been more difficult in my 25 years with Apple.

I think Apple did a great job, as far as it could. I used to work for a small training company in San Francisco. When I started our the first classes for HTML back in the '90's, we used text editing programs to place the graphics and all other layout. I wasn't very good at visualizing the text to how it would look, so I spent way too much time viewing pages and making corrections or tweaks. I don't type as well as I could, so typo's always killed me. With dial-up services being the norm - graphics optimization was/is key for pages to work well and required learning to use graphics tools like Photoshop 2
Some better text editing tools came out with buttons that worked similar to the Bold, Italic, Underline buttons, but they allowed us to insert the code for graphics, anchors, and links. Too Cool. Saved a lot of typing and typo's.
Then Adobe PageMill brought drag and drop to site design and I quit coding by hand. I understand the code and can fine tune it to what I want, but just grabbing the picture and placing in a table was really easy, and choosing fonts and font sizes from a menu was very nice. Then I upgraded to GoLive because I wanted to do full scale commercial sites, and use all of the other technologies that have sprung up. I would have stayed with GoLive for many more years, but right after I upgraded to GoLive 9, Adobe decided I needed to pay $200 more for a sidegrade to Dreamweaver or lose my investment and support. So I jumped at Dreamweaver with it's learning curve and tutorials, and I'm almost competent with it now after a year.
None of these programs explained how to get a domain name or set up DNS. Meanwhile, the hosting services have evolved, and they all have their own system.
I didn't use any previous version of iWeb because it was a pain to publish to anything but .mac or whatever Apple names it's server and the server has never had enough speed for me. It wasn't until iWeb '09 that I really began to take a look at it for some simple projects that could be put together in an evening, and turned over to a client for them to have fun with.
For what it does, iWeb is fantastic. I've created pages with layers and rich graphics that would have required much more work with any other program I've ever used. The learning curve for iWeb is as simple as opening a page and exploring all the buttons. Of course, you might need to understand why you would need a button, like the poster a couple of days ago, that didn't understand how to link to another page. But you catch on pretty fast.
iWeb will turn out results within a week or two, that would take you several years of study and graphics/site design to master. It has many limitations, so I wouldn't consider it for a commercial site, unless the site is a 'business card' site with show and tell, but not for retail sales, or a very large number of pages.
I'm hoping that iWeb will improve with future versions enough so that some tools for sidewide management like widgets that hold a navigation bar, that you design on your pages, and when you update the navigation bar in the widget, all the pages get updated automatically, or even the ability to change the address for a URL on one page and have it change on every page the link is on. Updates and corrections are not as easy to do with iWeb as other programs.
Still, for 5 or 10 page sites, iWeb templates take care of so many design choices that it is pretty easy to come up with something visually pleasing and informative.
All that being said, no design program has actually helped me understand a particular host's system. They are all different because they run on different versions of software like different versions of Apache or Windows server. Each company considers itself the master of security (by advertisement) and they use many different methods to control their servers and the services they offer.
Sometimes, the easiest way to get started is to go to a company like seanic.net and just sign up for their $3.92/month Linux based server. They even throw in the domain name with the deal. All of these hosting companies provide email services, ftp (some with password protection at no cost), and some provide more advanced services like SQL database, Perl scripting, and CGI-BIN. You don't need to use all of the features at once, and the tech support of a commercial company can get you going pretty quickly.
The tech support can show you where to upload your files, they set up DNS, and handle all of those other chores, so you can concentrate on designing interesting pages with iWeb.
    Sorry for the blathering...

  • Iweb '08 and Personal Domain/GoDaddy

I had a terrible time with this before and so gave up and used domain forwarding but now I wanted to try again. I researched here in the forums because I remember that there were a LOT of threads about it. I found this Step by step:
    1. Login into your Godaddy account
    2. Click on Manage Domains and click on your domain name
    3. Click on the "Total DNS" link
    4. Under Host click on the edit link for "www"
    5. For "Alias Name" use: www
    6. For 'Points to Host Name" use: web.mac.com
    7. Click "Ok"
    8. Should update within 24 hours
    9. Mine was updated overnight
But trying to follow it still gave me error messages at godaddy. I finally called them and realized what the problem was for me. After you do step 3 and are presented with the Total DNS panel, the first window says A(Host)Host and that is NOT what you want.
The second window says CNAMES(Aliases)Host and that IS the one you want. You see WWW is the first in the list in that box. Follow the line all the way over to the right and click on the PENCIL and then follow steps 5-7.
Just adding this in case anyone was still having problems like I did.

Thank you very much for this post!

  • Creating the default personal domain name to iWeb from Wordpress.

I have a wordpress blog (that I do not want to use) that also serves as the administrator for my domain name and I am trying to get iWeb to be the default home page and not the Wordpress blog. I have changed [edited in Custom DNS Records] the DNS protocol at Wordpress to "CNAME blog web.me.com." and also configured the personal domain in MobileMe to reflect my domain name.
So far I am not having any success with the online instructions and cannot seem to find any further information on how to make iWeb the home page.
Am I missing some steps here?
Anyone have any insight into setting up iWeb with a personal domain, specificially with Wordpress as the domain administrator?
    Thank you!

The first step is to configure your personal domain name in MobileMe which you have done.
You then need to go and alter your DNS records and what you want to do is create a new CNAME and direct this to web.me.com and that is it.  Your domain name will be your alias and web.me.com will be your host and as long as your site is published to MobileMe, then your domain name should point to your host at MobileMe.
I don't know why you have blog in there under your CNAME?  All you need is a new CNAME that points to web.me.com and nothing else and that should work.
Also, rather than changing back to MobileMe from WordPress, why not invest your time and energies into finding a new and alternative hosting company?  You don't have long with MobileMe and you do realise that it will be gone at the end of June, so perhaps now would be a good time to look at the alternatives?

  • Photoalbum indexpage with square photos like the old mobileme gallery?

I would like to get a photo gallery made in iWeb with an indexpage just like the old "MobileMe Gallery" with the square picture container´s - I made a lot of special frontpictures - one for each album only to fit the square form. And I liked it! At first it was annoying when it always seemed to cut half the heads of or the wheels from my bikepict´s but then I adjusted as described and made all those beautiful firstpict´s!
Now all different "theme´s" index pages are equipped with rectangular picture container´s. And options to change that are not active.
    Can anyone help me to...
...change the rectangular picture on the index page to a square one?
...find a skin or another web gallery program with square photo containers?
It would really make my day if I could get all my albums up and out again!
    Tina

For starters, here's a MobileMe Gallery Widget alternative.
In the past it linked to the MMe Gallery, now it links to a photoalbum on my NAS :
    http://www.wyodor.net/mfi/MMeGallery/
See if you can use it for your future gallery.
