Adding monitors

Can i add a 3rd and 4th monitor to an HP Slimline 5000 series using USB to VGA adaptors? This PC cannot be expanded.

When requesting assistance, please provide the complete model name and/or product number of the HP computer in question. HP/Compaq makes thousands of models of computers. Without this information it may be difficult or impossible to assist you in resolving your issue.
The above requested information can be found on the side, back, or bottom of your computer. Please do not include your serial number. Please enter the model/product information into HP's Online Consumer Support page and post it here for our review.
Without the exact specifics of your computer, we are merely guessing. Typically, you can add multiple displays using one or more USB-to-video adapter such as the eVGA UV Plus+ UV39. The UV39 is my recomendation of choice.

  • PB G4 as added monitor

I just purchased a new iMac 20" and would like to also use my previous PGB4 as an added monitor, for applications other than graphics ones. I have no idea how to do that, any chance I could get some advice?
I also use a Wacom Intuos3 graphic tablet, is there anything I should do in regards to that?
    Here are my iMac specs.

I would recommend using an IP over Firewire network as this is probably the fastest network you can establish between the Macs and should give the best performance.

  • Dual Monitors - Adding Monitor to HP Pavilion p7-1287c

HP Pavilion p7-1287c desktop.  Trying to add 2nd monitor.  Got: 8gb ddr3, Intell HD graphics, 1 tb hard drive, Windows 7 64-bit.  Bought a PNY GeForce 210 graphics card.  Installed card without drivers installed and both monitors screens black. Removed card, and tried to install drivers via CD and website, and they both say card not installed.  Also, without card, installing driver via CD, incompatible with current drivers message results.  Radio Shack cable splicer worked but I didn't care for the low resolution.
Thought it was simple to add and wanted to avoid paying a geek to do this, but after 4 trips to Best Buy, 1 to Radio Shack, still no solution.  Getting somewhat educated, still determined and hopeful.

    Hi:
Did you try hooking up both monitors, one to the DVD-I port and the other to the VGA port on the back of your PC?
    Sometimes that works.
Does the BIOS in your PC have a setting where you have to enable the PCIe video adapter?
On all of my HP business desktops, adding a video card automatically disables the onboard graphics but on some consumer models, you need to actually enable the PCIe video adapter with a setting.

  • Adding monitors to a laptop

i just added an additonal monitor to my laptop and i need a second one to total three. They all need to be capable of showing different windows at the same time, is this possible? I dont have another VGA outlet on my laptop, is there an adapter. Also, since I attached the 1st monitor, my computer will go to a blue screen and I have to shut it down and reboot. Is there, is there some other software that I need, none came with the monitor. Thanks

Adding a third monitor port will be difficult.  You MIGHT be able to find an ExpressCard video card, or you can get a DisplayLink USB video adapter.  The ExpressCard solution will perform much better than the USB solutions.  The USB solutions will only be useful for basic word processing and spreadsheet tasks - you will NOT be able to play video on them or do anything 3D.
As to the bluescreen - no clue, shouldn't be happening.  Update your video card drivers is about the only reccommendation I can give.

  • Urgent - iMac G4 Flat Panel - Is Adding Monitor or Flat Screen TV Possible?

    Hello,
As a present to my husband (mac guru) I would like to know if with his iMac Flat Panel G4, is it better to buy a 28 inch samsung computer monitor (flat panel) that he can also hook up his mac to or a kind of flat screen/panel LCD TV. The guys at futureshop and bestbuy seem to be "confused" when talking about macs and not pcs. With the computer monitor, there seems to be questions on if we'll be able to hook up our satellite tv... and with the tvs, there seems to be confusion on if we can hook up the computer. One of the reasons I want to hook the computer directly is my husband has had problems converting (burning to DVD) some videos with music background from iPhoto without doing a software update which requires us to change the timing with the audio and video in our already created slideshows. Please help quickly as some sales finish tomorrow. I need to know what to tell the store... i.e. what kind of jack or cables or capability I am looking for. Do I ask for USB port, coaxil input or what? Thanks in advance,
    Karen

Yes you can connect a display or monitor but exactly which ones depends on which iMac G4 you have.
All iMac G4s have a Mini VGA port this will allow you to connect any standard PC Monitor (with a VGA connector) and mirror the iMac's internal display only. The later iMac G4's also allow the connection of S-Video and Composite Video devices (most TV's have this type of input) which allows you to mirror the display on to the TV.
The MiniVGA to VGA and Mini VGA to S-Video/Composite adaptors are for sale online in the Apple Store ($19US/£15) or here.
If you wanted to extend the screen size again it is possible on some iMacs but requires a firmware hack that will invalidate your warranty.
I can't understand how having an external display will solve the burning to DVD issues though.....
Post back with your Screen size and processor speed for exact info - or read this recent post

  • Adding monitor for scopes

I want to add a monitor in addition to the 2 specially for the video scopes for color correcting. I will need an other video card?
Can I redirect the all scopes to an additional 3rd monitor?
Or what would be the best way to install the scopes seperate? Hardware scopes?
    Dorian

I'm always an advocate for hardware scopes. There is no other way to really accurately judge the signal from your output device.
Problem, hardware is expensive. I like the new Leader and Tektronix lcd scopes or the new Tektronix rasterizer. Software scopes s@k, Apple's especially.

  • Adding monitor to iMac

I have an iMac that I want to connect to a flat screen tv. I have used a VGA cable with an adaptor for the Mac. Doesn't work. Should I be using a DVI??

Hi Gina. If the mac you want to connect to your TV was made in 2007 then it does not have mini DisplayPort because that is a new connection just introduced on apple computers this year.
iMacs from 2007 use mini DVI connectors and you can easily find a mini DVI to VGA adapter.
I'm thinking of getting a Samsung LED TV myself & i've already tested a few using a HDMI adapter and it looked ok but i've been told i'd get much better results using a VGA adapter.
Good luck. Let us know your results.

    you should ask Dell
can your laptop act as a monitor, does it come with any 'video-IN' option?
    I mostly doubt ...
Your Mac offers a standard DVI or VGA output, and allows Extended Desktop, to make use of added monitor space.

  • Cannot remove file menu from split screen monitors.

Hello, I installed the latest update from Apple which was the new Safari 7. I run 2 added monitors with my iMac being the primary. After update installed, both of my split monitors have the file menu on the top of the monitors. I went into the system menu under display and everything is as it should be yet I cannot remove the file menu from my secondary monitors....

Thanks for the info however this still didnt solve the issue. I unselected and closed window but no changes were detected. I re opened the mission control and the box was selected again. I still have the file menues on both secondary monitiors. After i installed the latest update from apple, the one with the new safari update, is when i started having this issue. Everything worked fine before. My computer seems to be runing much slower now and when i click to open safri, it takes about 40 seconds to open safari..On both secondary monitiors, the file menues operate as if they are the main monitor, which my imac should be operating as the main....This is anoying...

  • [SOLVED] HDMI audio not working on new TV

I got a new TV and I get no sound through HDMI from my arch htpc.
However, I don't think the problem is the TV because:
    1) Audio from other hdmi sources works
    2) When i connect the htpc to a monitor through hdmi and restart, the audio works. While still on, if I disconnect the monitor and reconnect the TV, the audio works through hdmi
It seems that the problem stems from auto-detection of the hdmi. I have also noticed that if i start the htpc unconnected to a display and then try to connect it after it has booted up, i get no video as well. Shouldnt hdmi cables be hot pluggable.
Any way to write out the auto detected configuration for audio and disable detection? Something like this should solve my problem
Edit: solution in post #5 bellow
Last edited by despotic (2013-05-03 04:12:47)

Solved by adding monitor's EDID in xorg.conf. The steps to fix with an nvidia card are:
    1) Connect device with which audio works (in my case the monitor)
    2) run nvidia-settings and get edid file for the monitor
    3) edit xorg.conf and add the following under the device section:
    Option "ConnectedMonitor" "DFP"
    Option "CustomEDID" "DFP-0:/etc/X11/monitor.edid"
    4) reboot or restart X
Sound works now through hdmi connected to TV

  • Two audio interfaces but different uses in one system

    Hi,
I have already got an audio interface for recording and run smoothly.
Recently I get another audio interface (M-Audio Firewire 410). I want to add it to my system as a standalone mixer in which the outputs will be connected to 2 another active monitors, the inputs of this "mixer" are connected to audio outputs of a DVD player.
So, I can control the DVD volume by the knob on the Firewire 410 and by the M-Audio software in my Mac but my original audio set up doesn't change.
I mean, the DVD audio signal pass to the Firewire 410 then output to the newly added monitors only,my original monitors will not be affected (no DVD sound).
At the same, if I play mp3 in i-tunes, the music will output to my original monitors only.
Just like two independent audio set up in one system, is it possible ?
Thanks for any help in advance.
    Cheers,
    edtayin

You need to give complete details of the audio, exactly what is it, how many tracks, what's the channel configuration?
Can you post screen shots of what you're doing and what happens?
In expanding audio components in the timeline I can see what looks like an extra audio clip married to this one on a different track which has no signal, but I can't delete that additional audio clip.
Let's see this and the channel configuration in the audio inspector.

  • DWM Bottom Bar Interface Patch

NOTE: THE PATCH IS POSTED BELOW IN MY SECOND POST IN THIS THREAD. INSTRUCTIONS FOR FORMATTING THE ROOT WINDOW REMAIN THE SAME AS IN THIS POST.
I modified the DWM code so that instead of one bar, it is possible to have two at the same time, one on the top and one on the bottom. They can both be hidden separately with key combinations and are managed by DWM, and so both act like normal status bars (i.e. windows behave properly around them). The top bar shows the standard DWM info, along with anything that is piped to the root window with xsetroot (as is standard). But if the bottom bar is enabled, a second bar shows up. This bar also shows information from the root window. If you were to want the text "this is the top" to appear in the top bar and "this is the bottom" to appear in the bottom bar, you would format it to the root window like so: "this is the topBOTTOM=this is the bottom".
I was just asking to check if there is a demand for such a patch; if there is, I will clean up my version and post it here.
Screenshot of the two bars "in action":
    http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/1943/t … enshot.jpg
The scrolling breaking news on the bottom is another patch for conky that enables rss feeds to scroll on one line. If anyone wants this patch I will provide it as well.

Alright, after a long while (sorry), here's the patch and instructions. First, download and extract (I had to compress it for the upload sites to work) this patch to a directory on your computer:
    http://www.mediafire.com/file/q2nq5mwml … ar.diff.gz
The text of the patch is provided below ONLY FOR REFERENCE. The formatting is off and the patch ends up not working. Use the linked patch.

Now apply the patch (if you are using the tarball) by running
    patch -p1 < path/to/patch.diff
Next, add the following lines to config.h:
under the line "static const Bool topbar = True; /* False means bottom bar */" (keep in mind this must be true for this patch to be useful)
    put the following:
static const Bool bottombar = True; /* True means an extra bar on the bottom */
(This is used as your switch for turning the bottom bar on and off)
IMPORTANT: so that you can show and hide the bottom bar with a keybinding do the following:
before the keys[] array is declared, add the line:
    #include "togglebottombar.c"
, next, in the keys array, add a line like the following:
    { MODKEY, XK_i, togglebottombar, {0} },
Obviously, any key combo can be used. This hides the bottom bar with the modkey (mine is set to the windows or "super" key) and i.
Finally, copy and paste this code into a file called "togglebottombar.c" in your dwm source directory:
    void togglebottombar(const Arg *arg) {
    selmon->showbottombar = !selmon->showbottombar;
    updatebarpos(selmon);
    XMoveResizeWindow(dpy, selmon->bbarwin, selmon->wx, selmon->bby, selmon->ww, bh);
    arrange(selmon);
Now, format the text in your root window as described in the first post:
assuming *TEXTONTOP* is text into the top bar and *TEXTONBOTTOM* is text into the bottom bar, you would format your root window text like this:
    *TEXTONTOP*BOTTOM=*TEXTONBOTTOM*
For example, I have info on the top, and network info and news on the bottom (as shown in the screenshot thread).

  • Purchase now or wait?

    I am going to be ordering a 2.66 or 3.0 MacPro with a 23" and 2 20" or 2 23".
Should I order now, or wait until after WWDC? I will only be getting one 23" monitor initially.

It has taken me until now to "fully" get my nine month Mac Pro upgraded, optimized, and configured with more drives, memory, backup routine, workflow, and getting to know it fully. - Not that I didn't get a lot of use out of it day #1 :-))
Adding monitor, a couple PCI cards, one thing at a time before adding something else (and a couple months watching and troubleshooting new memory and issues went in also).
Having a couple months really helps and makes sense.
I was slightly concerned getting Mac Pro so early, being new and all. But it has proven to be trouble-free luckily, and while there have apparently been "errata" improvements and fixes, nothing huge. Once in awhile I'll go back and (try) to use my old system. But it is so loud, and now seems sluggish and slow and unable to work smoothly that it just confirms the Mac Pro was the right decision, even as it was less than a month after they were first available.
