Adding more redolog groups in 11.1.0.7
i have oracle e-business suite (R12.1.1) and database is ( 11.1.0.7) on red hat enterprise linux 5.3 . All of this is 64 bit.
i have a database about 200 gb which is as usual growing day by day as data entry is taking place.
i have 2 redolog groups each containing 2 members having size of 1000MB each.
now i want to convert my database to archive log .
How many redolog groups i add more and i should keep the same size of members as in already defined redolog groups i.e 1000 mb.
Keeping the size of 1000 is good or i should decrease it ?
Please suggest
You can set instance parameter FAST_START_MTTR_TARGET to have Oracle estimation for optimal redo log size: please read
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e16638/instance_tune.htm#PFGRF94563
THe text from this page tells to run V$INSTANCE_RECOVERY and the value for OPTIMAL_LOGFILE_SIZE
( and i run this query select from V$INSTANCE_RECOVERY and the value for OPTIMAL_LOGFILE_SIZE is NULL).
Please suggest.

Adding redolog group for a database which has standby
hi friends,
Database: 10.2.0.3
OS: windows 2003 server sp2
i had a database (which has a standby) with the following redolog information
SQL> select group#,member from v$logfile;
GROUP# MEMBER
3 I:\D001\ORACLE\ORADATA\INFA05UT\REDO03.LOG
2 I:\D001\ORACLE\ORADATA\INFA05UT\REDO02.LOG
1 I:\D001\ORACLE\ORADATA\INFA05UT\REDO01.LOG
4 I:\D001\ORACLE\ORADATA\INFA05UT\SBREDO01.LOG
5 I:\D001\ORACLE\ORADATA\INFA05UT\SBREDO02.LOG
6 I:\D001\ORACLE\ORADATA\INFA05UT\SBREDO03.LOG
by name SBREDO01.LOG i hope this is standby redo log file.
the following is the output from v$standby_log view.
SQL> select group#,status from v$standby_log;
GROUP# STATUS
4 UNASSIGNED
5 UNASSIGNED
6 UNASSIGNED
the following is in standby database
SQL> select * from v$log;
GROUP# THREAD# SEQUENCE# BYTES MEMBERS ARC STATUS
FIRST_CHANGE# FIRST_TIME
1 1 8319 52428800 1 YES CLEARING_CURRENT
99953082 05-JAN-09
3 1 8318 52428800 1 YES CLEARING
99947833 05-JAN-09
2 1 8317 52428800 1 YES CLEARING
99941239 05-JAN-09
will standby redo log file shown in primary? now i want to add a redolog group to primary. how can i do this? plz explain
thanks in advanceHi,
AFAIK, You can add redo log file groups or members to the primary database without affecting the standby database and Enabling and disabling threads at the primary database has no effect on the standby database.
Example :-
ALTER DATABASE
ADD LOGFILE GROUP 15 ('/oracle/dbs/log1d.rdo', '/oracle/dbs/log2d.rdo')
SIZE 500K;
The Standy performance only effects when you the Primary Failovers and standy DB had less Redo Logs, In that case the performance degrades. I suggest try to maintain Equal numbers of Online Redo Members on Both.

A problem about the policy of RMS which is added more than 500 principals
Hello specialists ,
I've a question about RMS , when I added more than about 500 principals (users & groups ) into a policy in the RMS , it will report an error for any operation about the policy , and I find the error message as followed (for theconvenience, I paste all of the logs in the weblogic).
We have tested all of our environments : Weblogic , JBoss , Websphere , each of them makes the same mistake . those operations include : try to open the documents protected by this kind of policies , to disable or enable the policies, to look the detail from the "adminui" . when decreasing the principals for this kind of policy to almost 450 (I am not sure the clearly number) with java code , the results will be ok .
So anyone can help me ? It's really very important for us , becuase our customer refused to pay the left money of this project till this problem is resolved . and I have reported this problem to the Enterprise Support in Indian (the case is :181916446), but , obviously , it seems they are burning my patience . At the same time , I think it's a problem of the product , I think the SQL is really very bad ,at least , not so good .
Any help will be very appreciated !

How to get count of group of current login user if AD Group is added in SharePoint Group?
My Client has 2 SharePoint Application. For the AD Users they have created AD Group and added users in that AD Group as per requirement. Later AD Group is added in SharePoint Group. When I'm trying to fetch Current User Group count, I can able to get the
count of Groups using below statement.
int groupCount = SPContext.Current.Web.CurrentUser.Groups.Count;
Above Statement, returns always 0 value if I tried with User who are added in AD Group and if I add AD User and then it will return the exact count.
Please suggest solution to get Count of Group of Current User. My Application contains more than 60 SharePoint group.Hello,
I believe your code doesn't count those AD group users until they login at least once. If this is the case then try to use "SPUtility.GetPrincipalsInGroup" as suggested in below post:

I have added more songs to my library. Half of the library has selected ticks but when I click on any of the others to select them, the whole song disappears from the list. Why and what can I do to fix?
Hey Paul,
If I understand correctly, it sounds like iTunes is not grouping the songs from a particular CD together. The cause could be something as minor as a misspelling or slight variations. For more information, see the following resource:
Why aren't songs with the same album art grouped together?

Hi All,
I would like to know what will we have to do if we want to add more nodes after Oracle NoSQL install and configuration.
What will we do on all clients and on all existing nodes?
Can you please explain all the steps?
Working with NoSQL Database, we have to deal with performance problems so we have to thing of such a situation where we need to add more nodes later.
Is there a maximum of nodes in a replication group?
Thanks for your response.893771 wrote:
Hi Charles,
The one with more partitions will have finer granularity for rebalancing when more nodes are added.I am not sure to understand since the two customers have the same number of nodes and replication group. The number of partitions is specified at configuration/provisioning time for the system. Generally we recommend that it be >> the number of nodes. e.g. if you have 10 nodes and expect to ultimately grow to 100 nodes, then specify nParts as 1000 or 10,000. From your question, I assumed that the two customers had the same number of nodes but different numbers of partitions specified at provisioning time.
1. I assumed the number of partitions is used in hash functionCorrect. md5(key) % nparts -> partition id.
2. I assumed the number of partition des not correspond to the number of replication group (the number of partition is higher than the number of replication group)Correct. N Rep Groups = nNodes / Replication Factor.
3. Do you use the number of partitions as if it was the number of nodes to which data is distributed? And then used modulo to map each partition to a single replication group?Once you have the partition id, that gets mapped to a replication group. The operation type along with other factors determines which node in the replication group handles the operation.
4. How do you decide which data should be redistributed? We don't currently redistribute data. That is a work in progress. We will take some data from each of several nodes. e.g. if there are 10 rep groups and you add one more rep group, we'll populate the 11th rep group with 10% of the data from each of the other 10 rep groups.

Adding more than 2Gb RAM to MacBook Pro
Do you guys know of any way to put more than 2Gb RAM in an Intel 17" MacBook Pro?
Model Name: MacBook Pro 17"
Model Identifier: MacBookPro1,2
Processor Name: Intel Core Duo
Processor Speed: 2.16 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache (per processor): 2 MB
Memory: 2 GB
Bus Speed: 667 MHz
Boot ROM Version: MBP12.0061.B03
SMC Version: 1.5f10
I bought this when the 17" models first came out, and have been disappointed in it ever since (I broke my rule of NOT buying the first generation of something). As time has passed, the main problem is the 2Gb limit for RAM. That's NOWHERE near enough, and shame on Apple for that limitation. If there were some way, even a non-standard way, of adding more RAM, I could get reasonable performance from this computer. As it is, this has been a wasted $3600 investment. whew!
Any help or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks! Feel free to email bruce at dbsdesigngroup.comThat's possible...actually likely. I'd love for that to be the case because I could fix it. ::Grin:: It's been this way since I first got it. When it arrived with just 1 Gb RAM, it was virtually unusable. I have a few apps as startup items, but they're just Firefox, Entourage, iNotepad, Linotype Font Explorer (with very few fonts activated), and Stickies. That shouldn't affect things much.
My needs are to use Photoshop, Illustrator and GoLive at the same time, with MSWord, Firefox and Entourage open as well. After the first bit of usage, I end up with 4-6 pageouts and a VERY slow computer. While it's doing the pageouts (which take quite a while), or switching between apps, it's very slow. And it's also extremly slow when Spotlight is indexing, so I disabled that.
I'm just not sure what it might be...nothing in Activity Monitor seems like it would be a culprit. Even in Safe Mode the problem is very evident.
I'll keep exploring and hopefully find something that will make this machine more viable for my use. I really appreciate the input greatly. -
Hi, this computer works fine with Ubuntu (10.10, Unity makes it a dog ), unusably slow with Vista, and who knows about Win7.
If you have successfully added more RAM than the 2gigs which supposedly is the max, let me know how it went. 4 gigs would make things so much better. We are using Microsoft SQL Server 2008 . but it's well with MySQL & JBoss

My ibook has 512MB's of RAM. I am happy with this. However since next year I plan to return to school to get a Masters in Ministry, I may need more RAM. From 2001-2005 while I working on my undergrad I used a Performa 6360 which had 136MB's of RAM + RAM Doubler. I was able to run some 20 apps at one time (or more) without a major slowdown. I cannot do this with Tiger, and since I plan to get the OSX version of Dave to access other PC's on the network (since whatever is built int OSX pales in comparison to Dave). On my Performa 6360 Dave was a necessity, since the campus dumped using Macs in 2002. I remember my 1st year (2001-2002) I could access a number of Macs on the Appletalk network at the time. But after the Fall 2002 semester the mac got dumped. Some students still used Macs, but fewer and fewer used them in the 2003-2005 years.
So my question is. Will maxing out my ibook to a gig of RAM although me to run some 20-30m apps at one time (like I could on the Performa) or was OSX Tiger just not designed for this?
OSX Tiger is much better than OS 9.1, but not in all areas as OS 9.x and before do have their advantages over Tiger.

Actually, OS 9 does not have any advantage over OS X. You had 136 MB of ram plus RamDoubler, why do you think 512 MB of ram will be less adequate?
RamDoubler merely did what OS X does as part of how it works. It did not give you more ram it just allocated more to the app up front while dropping background apps as low as possible. This is what OS X does.
If you were running 20 - 30 apps with 136 MB of ram then they weren't ram hogs at all and it's very likely you can run them without adding more ram now.
OS X handles virtual memory much better too. In the old days I could run 2-3 apps at a time, now I can run 10-12, and most of mine are major ram hogs like Photoshop.

HELP: Question on adding more RAM to my 2X dual core 2.66 Xenon MacPro
Hi,m
I current;y have 6GB of RAM in my MacPro and want to add a bit more.
Right now I have 4 X 512MB strips and 4 1GB strips for a total of 6GB
I was thinking of adding 2 X 2GB strips to replace 2 of my 512MB strips which would give me 4 1GB strips, 2 2GB strips and 2 512MB strips filling all slots on both risers.
What is the proper order in which to place the memory strips? 2GB strips in slots A&B on the top riser and the rest paired wherever... or is there a specific order these need to be in?
Should I remove the 2 remaining 512MB strips altogether and leave 2 empty slots?
I have heard that adding more memory improperly can in some cases actually slow things down.
My MacPro is running the 32BIT EFI... but should be able to address all RAM up to 4GB per core. ( 12GB total)2006: symmetrical quad sets are ideal.
4 x 2GB + 4 x 1GB / even 4 x 4GB
The bad config is 6 DIMMs, yes.
More than 4 DIMMs = higher latency
There is no "per core." You can have up to 32GB (8 x 4GB).
WHY do you want more and what will this do for you?
Are you using CS3 or later? then yes 6GB is minimal.
Do you show page outs and swap files being used?
Where I recommend checking, and there are install guides and video:

Adding more RAM to Macbook Pro mid-2012
Hi!
I have a question about adding more RAM to my mid-2012 MacBook Pro (without Retina). I've been doing some video editing with Final Cut, and I'm using quite many apps on the daily basis. I have the standard configuration with 4GB of RAM (2x 2GB) but I guess I should upgrade it, shouldn't I?
I had that idea in mind: buying extra 8GB RAM instead of one 2GB, so I'll end up with 10GB of RAM. If it won't be enough and I'll have some extra money, I will add another 8GB instead of 2GB, so I'll have 16GB.
First question - is it worth it?
Second question - can I add any RAMs supported by Macs? For example I'll leave one 2GB that I have already, and add 8GB made by, let's say, Kingston (I guess they are supported and they have good price in my country). Will this work fine? Does it make sense?Jerroslaw,
since you’re running Mavericks, open up Activity Monitor while you’ve got your usual selection of apps running, select its Memory tab, and look at the Swap Used setting in the lower left. If it’s displaying “0 bytes” as the amount of swap used, then extra RAM won’t make a difference. Otherwise, to answer your first question, whether it’s worth it or not depends upon how frustrated you are running your usual selection of apps with 4 GB of RAM. It might be that the cost of replacement RAM modules outweighs your level of frustration — only you can make that determination of worth. I would recommend that if you do choose to purchase replacement RAM, that you get a pair of matching modules — either 2 × 4 GB = 8 GB, or 2 × 8 GB = 16 GB, to replace the pair that is currently installed.
For your second question, you don’t have to use Apple-brand RAM, but you do have to use RAM with the same characteristics as your factory-installed RAM uses. Any worthwhile purveyor of RAM for Macs will let you easily locate modules that are compatible with your Mid 2012 MacBook Pro. -
Will adding more RAM to my Power Mac G5 make a difference?
I have a Power Mac G5 (Late 2005) with 1 GB of RAM, which is how I ordered it. Sometimes when I am viewing large (large viewing size) video files with Quicktime, the video files get a little choppy from time to time, especially when I have many other applications open. Will adding more RAM fix this or is it not really necessary? Also, does Leopard improve this problem? I am currently using Tiger.
Hey Tim
I'm definitely not an expert - but more Ram makes a huge difference. I'm not sure if more Ram will specifically solve your Quicktime issues or whether upgrading your graphic card is really the answer. Those more knowledgeable should jump in here. Buying Ram from 3rd parties, like OWC (making sure you do have the right compatible Ram), will improve your performance immediately. I noticed the difference when maximizing the RAm on my G4. It cannot hurt. 4GB of Ram for my G5 cost less than $200. I think Ram is the biggest bang for the buck.
Do you really need to get Leopard? The performance of Tiger on the G5 for me is solid. Seems like Tiger is optimized at this point for the G5 processor chips. Why muck around with all the potential problems you read about on these forums. Check out the Adobe forum and hear some of their nightmare stories. Who has this amount of time to waste on fixing what shouldn't need fixing in the first place. Just a thought - hope I'm not out of line for chiming in on this.
Since your model can take 8GB of Ram, indulge yourself and maybe buy another 4GB of matched Ram and if it doesn't solve your Quicktime issues, I'll bet it will make you happy with everything else.

Adding More than one document to a cell in a dataform
Hi All,
I am using EPM 11.1.1.1.0 .
I have a planing application and I need to add three documents to a cell in a data form.
Is there a way i can do this...
I can add one document and can open it as well but did not find a way of adding more than one document. Is it supported on Hyperion Planning ?
Also if we have a document attached to a cell text ...Is there a way to print it out from Hyperion Planning or Workspace?
Regards.
Alicia
Edited by: Alicia on Aug 6, 2009 6:39 AMHi,
I believe it will be just one document, I say that because when you go to the cell and choose open document then it is aimed at opening just one document.
As for printing from cell text, you would have to open the document first before being able to print.
Cheers
