Adding music from cd

adding music from cd

Bought a new i mac, but it doesn't have facility for CD's as they're being phased out. I still have lots of CDs with music I love on them, so want to somehow get this music into my new i mac & into my i phone for my art workshops.
My 'old' Macbook pro can take CD's but is unstable (on its 3rd HD! hence the new i mac purchase!) so I have been unwilling to build up my itunes library on the Macbook HD as I don't trust it.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated (as we are getting tired of hearing the same old tunes on the iphone...)

  • I have added music from my CD library to iTunes but now my iPod will not sync.  Message says not enough free space.  How can I sync only a portion of my library to my 8Gb Nano?

I have added music from my CD library to iTunes on my PC.  I now have too many songs in my iTunes and I have insufficient space in my 8 Gb Nano.  I am unable to sync my iPod now.  How can I get my iPod to sync?  I only want a portion of my songs on the Nano.

    Hi wisemra,
First, make sure your iTunes does not attempt to sync automatically. Open iTunes, and select Preferences under the iTunes menu item:
Then, once you have hooked up your device and selected it, you should see the device Profile pages to the right. Select the Music tab:
Once you get to the Music detail screen, you will see the option to "Sync Music". You can then select "Sync Entire Music Library" or you can select "Sync Selected Playlists, Artists, Albums, Genres". Click on the second one. Then, below, you can select which of your music from the library you want on your device:
Your will show a list of your music. Mine doesn't because I sync with an iTunes library on different computer, but once you have selected the options I have shown you, you will see the music listed. Just pick what you want on your device and then click "Sync" at the bottom.
    Cheers,

  • Adding Music From Other User Account

Hi, quick question. We just bought our iMac and we are trying to figure out the music. After collecting all the music from various computers we put them on an external hard drive. We then added it all onto the main user (the only administrator). What we are trying to do is add the music onto the rest of the user accounts. Is that possible?
    Thanks

Are you logged in with only one user?
You have to quit iTunes before opening it in another user account.
In the Finder, go to /Users/Shared/ folder.
On the iTune sfolder, right click - get info.
Scroll to the Sharing & Permissions tab.
Make sure Everyone is set to *Read & Write*.
Click the Gear icon and select *Apply to enclosed items*.

You can transfer itunes purchases:  File>Transfe Purchases.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.  Use your backup copy to put everything back.

  • HT1473 adding music from a scandisk to an apple iphone

how can i import music from a scandisk to iphone?

If you mean a Sandisk memory card or flash drive then you can't - you will need to copy it to your computer's iTunes (File > Add To Library) and then sync it to the phone.

  • Adding music from Lime Wire

I used to be able to add my music from Lime Wire to my iPhone but it won't let me. Can someone tell me how to allow me to download my Lime Wire music to my iPhone? Thank you.

    Welcome to the forums.
It shouldn't make any difference where you get your music from -- just drag and drop it into iTunes and as long as it's in a format iTunes supports (like MP3) it will import properly.
If it's not in the right format you will need to convert it first.

  • ITunes adding music from external drive to multiple users

    Here's what I have:
My iMac currently has 3 different user accounts on it. My iTunes library is currently stored on my external HD and its location is set to route to the external drive on both accounts. I currently have both boxes checked to Keep files organized in the iTunes folder (which is on my external HD).
Issue: iTunes does not automatically update the library information from the external drive to the actual iTunes player/list. So, for instance, if I currently added a song to my library via cd on User A's account, it will automatically save to the external drive...but when i log into User B, it will not show the new song in that iTunes player/list. Instead I have to go find the file on the external drive and drag it into the iTunes.
Basically, how can I make it so that any time new music is added to the external hard drive, iTunes will automatically add it into the player w/o me having to manually move it over?

iTunes has no "folder watch" feature, so what you're experiencing is normal and cannot be solved without third-party software. Hazel is a third-party utility that claims to be able to watch a folder and automatically add an added track to iTunes. I haven't tried it, but you might want to take a look. Otherwise, you have to add the tracks manually.

  • Adding music from external HDD to Ipod without copying to Mac

    Hi,
I'm using a friend's Mac while mine is in service. I'd like to add new songs to my ipod from my external hdd, without adding the songs to his itunes, or at least in a way that I can restore his system to its original state afterwards. Any ideas if that can be done and how?
    Cheers,
    nico

Are you sure it works? Sound like you are just adding the files to the iPod in hard drive mode, but they won't appear in the iPod "music player" area and be playable on your iPod.

  • Adding Music from PC to Thunderbolt (Help Please)

I tried the V cast and did the transfers but nothing transfers over am I doing something wrong?

The easiest way to transfer media from PC to TB is mount the TB as a disk drive (^Note 1) and then simply cut/paste (or drag and drop) the media folders.  In fact, this method may even be necessary if you want certain ancillary files (e.g. Album Art) transfer as well.
I just went through this with my TB upgrade.  In my case, I use Window Media Player 12 to organize my music but when I used WMP to sync it to the TB, the album art didn't get transferred.  However, when I cut/pasted the music folders it worked.
    1. Mount your phone as a USB mass storage and open the "Removable Disk (F" F:/Music folder (^Note 1).
    2. Select/Copy folders under "My Music" directory and Paste into "F:/Music/" directory.
^Note 1: When you plug you TB into the USB port of the PC, you'll see a little USB icon in the top left of the TB's notification bar.  Drag that down the notifcation bar and select (touch) the entry with the USB icon (it probably says "Charge Only").  Change it to "Disk Drive" ("Mount as disk drive").  After this, on the PC open a file explorer and under Computer you'll notice a new "Removable Disk" has been added, e.g. "Removable Disk (F".  Open that disk and there should be a directory "F:/Music" (If not, create one).
