Adding Music to a slideshow in Premiere Elements 4

I am new to media software. I have some experience with editing photos in Photoshop Elements 4. Since that program was unable to make slideshows that played on a TV, I purchased the new bundle with Photoshop Elements 6 and Premiere Elements 4. I have been having great difficulty finding good instructions on how to do things in these programs. Their online manuals and Help section seem to be for people who are already familiar with these kinds of programs. So, I am here, to try to get some help.
I made a slideshow in Photoshop Elements 6 and sent it to Premiere Elements 4. I was able to burn it and it plays on our TV. Now I want to add music to it. I first looked at the slideshow in Premiere Elements 4 but could not figure out how to add the music using that program.
Therefore, I went back to the slideshow I created in Photoshop Elements 6 and have been trying to add music in that program with the idea of sending it to Premiere Elements 4 again when it is time to burn. I need to add Mulitiple Music Selections to the slideshow. I am trying to coordinate different music with the different cities we visited in Alaska. This has been a bit difficult for me to do. I am getting there, but it is not effecient. I posted on the Photoshop Elements Forum and it was suggested I try this forum. Someone thought it might be easier to do using Premiere Elements 4. If there is a link somewhere with directions on how to add the music in either program, I would be most grateful for that information. I am looking for instructions on how to add MULTIPLE music selections to ONE slideshow. I found the instructions for adding one music selection, and I understand that. I just need to take it further. Thank you for any help you can provide.

Mary,
I create all of my slideshows in Premiere Pro, so I am learning a lot about the interaction between PSE and PE from your thread. Were it not for Barbs instructions to Break Apart the slide show from PSE, I would never have thought of that. As you say, learn something new everyday. I also only have the full Photoshop, not PS Elements, so I do not know what PSE offers. See, Im learning things right there.
Now, lets see if I can give you an easy way to do the Fade-out of your Audio, and not confuse you. There are several ways to do this, but I like to use the Audio Mixer. Maybe its because it looks like my mixing console from my analog days and Im comfortable with the pot (potentiometer) control that is displayed.
You have now followed Barbs instructions to Break Apart the slide show. You are now in the Timeline view and have expanded it horizontally and maybe the two main Track (Audio, where your music is, and Video) vertically, so that you can see your Clips (your slides). Go to the menu at the top of the Workspace and click Window. This will give you a drop-down menu. About 7/8 of the way down, click on Audio Mixer. This would be written as Window>Audio Mixer. This will open a new Panel, Audio Mixer. At the top of this new Panel are the names of your Audio Tracks, say Audio 1, Audio 2, Narration and Music. Because you could have your music on about any of these, youll need to match up its location (left side of the Timeline will give you the exact Track name) with the names of the various Tracks in the Audio Mixer. Once you have that name match, the fun begins.
I like to place the CTI (the Current Time Indicator) a bit ahead of where I will want to make my change. This gives me some time to get ready. Lets say that your music IS on the Music Track. Looking down below that label in the Audio Mixer, you can see a round knob marked Balance. Look down below that and youll see a vertical window marked Level, with a chart just to the right of it. There are three elements to that chart: a black slot line, and small horizontal rectangle with a horizontal line in it and then numbers with +s and -s. That horizontal rectangle is the pot (potentiometer) handle and is what we will be using. It is probably set a 0, but it might reflect a sound level set previously, maybe in PSE. You might want to jot down where it is set right now, in case we need to go back.
Now its time to get creative. Position the Audio Mixer where you can see it and also the Timeline. Note that you can change the size of the Audio Mixer, so that it only shows the Audio Track that you are working on, if needed. Place your mouses cursor over the pot handle (that little horizontal bar) click and hold for a second. With your other hand, hit the Spacebar to start the play of your Timeline. The CTI will begin moving to the right and youll hear the Audio Track and see the images in the Monitor. While still clicking and holding on the pot, get ready. When you are approaching where you want your Fade-out to begin, slowly drag the pot down to the very bottom. The idea is to do this at a speed that will get you to the - ∞ point, just as you come to the end of your slide.
What this does is automatically add Keyframes to the Audio Track (the one where your music is), that go from the set level to silent. This is just how we used to do it pre-digital, except we had our finger on the pot and actually slid a mechanical/electronic device. If you look closely at your Audio Track, youll also see a bunch of little circles on the yellow line. These are the Keyframes. The beauty of doing it this way, is that you can vary the speed of the Fade-out. You can start slowly, then increase the Velocity of the Fade. [Note: in Premiere Pros Effects Panel, you can manipulate this Velocity to your hearts content. I do not believe that PE allows as much control there.]
There are two other ways to accomplish the same thing. One is to manually add a Keyframe, at the CTI (accomplished by clicking on the little diamond on the left side of the Audio Track in the Timeline), on the Audio Track, where you wish the Fade-out to start. This basically holds the Level before that point to what it was set to. Then you go to the end of that piece of music. Lets say that it ends exactly where your slide ends (on the Video Track). I find that point easily by hitting Page Down, then the <- key (left cursor key). Page Down takes you to the next cut, or Clip, and the <- takes you back to the last frame. Here youd manually add another Keyframe. Drag down on this second Keyframe to drop the Audio level to - ∞ like above.
The other way to do this is to add an Audio Transition to the end of your music. I use Constant Power from the Audio Transitions pre-sets for this. One can alter the length of these Transitions to fit the time desired for the Fade-out. When it comes to steps involved, this might be the easiest method, but I like the control of Keyframes, and like to use the Audio Mixer to achieve the effect that I am listening for.
As with most Adobe programs, there are several ways to get what you desire. These methods usually only differ by degrees for control. Some are almost one click and drag solutions, other require user input. The beauty is that the simple way will often get what you want, while the latter will allow much more control.
Personally, Id try all three, just to see which one is easier for you and which one allows you the exact effect that you want.
I hope that the forum formatting will bring in the characters that I have used, so you can see them. If you get a bunch of little solid black blocks, it did not. That is why I also added the annotations to tell you what the symbol is.
Good luck,
Hunt

Install the excellent 'Search Everything' utility and enter 'extreme' as a search term. Note that when you first run 'Everything' it takes time to index your drive(s). After that though it is a nearly instantaneous start.

  • Cannot create slideshow in Premiere Elements 8

I just installed and am trying to use Premiere Elements 8. I have been racking my brain for the last two hours trying to figure out how to create a slide show.  I do not have a create button anywhere.  I jumped from Elements 1.0 to 8.  I am ready to return 8 and go back to 1 if I cannot figure this out.
Where do I find the slideshow dialog box?
    Can someone please help?????
    Thanks.

Oh come on, Eric! You're not really going to return the program just because you couldn't figure out how to use it, are you?
I"m just teasing you. The program can be a bit intimidating at first. That's why I spend most of my day showing people how to use it.
Actually, there are at least four ways to build a slideshow in Premiere Elements. I show you how to do them all in my book, "The Muvipix.com Guide to Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements 8," if you're interested. It's available on Amazon.com and from the Muvipix store.
I don know specifically what kind of slideshow you're trying to create, so I can't give you specific instructions.
But first, before you bring any photos into Premiere Elements, be sure to resize them to 1000x750 pixels, per the FAQs to the right of this forum.
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/431851?tstart=0
Then use Get Media/From Files and Folders to get the photos into your Project panel (also under the Organize tab.)
Once you've got all of your photos gathered in your Project media panel, select them all and right-click -- and select Create Slideshow.
As I say, there are a number of other ways to do it, but this is the easiest. There is also an option for creating a slideshow in Themes and there's a slideshow creator built into the Organizer.
But that should get you started.
Meantime, why not check out my free Basic Training with Premiere Elements tutorials on the Muvipix site?

  • Adding Music to iWeb Slideshows

I would like to add some music to the slideshows I've published using iWeb. I discovered some old (ie. Oct/2006) threads discussing this topic and have tried what was suggested there - downloading the AC-QuickTime.js and editing the slideshow HTML file as suggested, but could not get it to work. Does anyone have any ideas? This seems like such a simple feature to want to add to a slideshow (ie. the way you do it right in iPhoto), it seems like there has to be a way. Thanks for any help.

    pmuck,
    Welcome to the discussions.
Not sure what you've read, so here's the crash course on it again!
As long as you don't mind doing a little post publish editing of your .js files, it's fairly easy to do. You will find them in this path on your iDisk, using the Go menu in Finder:
    Go/iDisk/MyiDisk/Sites/iWeb/Nameofsitefolder/Page_filesFolderPage.js
Open the .js files for that particular page on your iDisk with any text editor (I like Taco, and it's free) and make the following changes to the script code that controls your movie (song): (you will find the movie code near the top of the page in the .js file)
    Change autoplay="false" to autoplay="true"
    Change loop="false" to loop="true"
Changing controller value="true" to controller value="false" will remove the controller from the page entirely. Make these changes in both sets of tags, (object and embed).
Make the changes and just "Save". Clear your browser cache and you should see the changes take effect immediately. Bear in mind you will have to make this modification each time you republish your site. You can also save this modified .js file and replace the republished file with it, as long as no other changes were made to the page in iWeb.
Post back and let us know how it goes.

  • Adding Music to slide show in Photoshop Elements 8

I am trying to add music to a slide show in Photoshop Elements 8. When I go to add the music I get the following message:
The selected file cannot be played because your system does not have the required compresser/decompresser (codec) installed.
I've tried downloading a copy of things from the internet and either they were the wrong things or I didn't know how to use them, so I uninstalled them.
Can someone point me in the right direction of what I need to download and what I do once I download the software?
    Thanks so much!

I'm using MP3 and getting the same error.  Yes, the file does play in Windows Media player and in iTunes. The song I'm trying to use was purchased from Amazon.
Any advice on how to add this would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • Why doesn't added music play in slideshow preview?

I created a slideshow in PSE 9 Organizer and added audio, but it doesn't play in the preview. It is an mp3 file, added normally, and shows up in the audio track.

    Hi,
Is ti not playing the audio while you are creating the audio or is it not playing on the output (PDF/WMV).
Also, check out is it happening with only one specific file or with every audio file.

  • Adding music to Iphoto6 Slideshow

I'm trying to add more than one song to a slideshow. I've read many places that you just need to create a playlist in itunes and then pull in the playlist from iphoto. I've created a playlist in itunes but when I click the music icon in iphoto, I only have access to individual songs in itunes--no access to playlist. I do not know why I can't see the playlist. Can anyone help with this?

  • Premiere Elements 4.0 shuts down 15 minutes into my photo slideshow

I have created a photo slideshow in Premiere Elements 4.0. I'm using a Gateway Laptop - 2.00 GB, 32-Bit operating system. I checked available space on my C-hard drive and it shows: 43.6 GB of available space.
At approximately 15 minutes and 44 seconds, the end of one of my songs starts to skip, and an error message pops up that says: Microsoft Windows: Adobe Premiere Elements has stopped working - a problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
I checked the song where the issue occured. It plays fine in other applications. I checked the format of the photos - all are Jpeg. I even deleted all files from that 15 min 44 sec point in my project and it still hits something it doesn't like and shuts down with the error message. I defragged and performed a disc cleanup. I re-started the computer and tried it again - same issue.
So I started over. I checked it every time I added something new. Photos worked; transitions worked, the theme worked..... and then I got to music. I added 3 tracks and at 15 min 44 sec, my issue started again. I thought that maybe I had run out of hard drive space (I've read several threads on here that suggest a laptop is not ideal for PE 4 - a CPU works best). But if that were true, shouldn't my project have worked when I deleted the songs from the project? I've tried everything and am a loss. I've contacted Tech Support and am still waiting for an answer. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

When I have program closed due to DEP I have always had a warning message saying that DEP is closing the program... and then given the option to disable it for the program.
What format is your audio by the way... MP3 can sometimes make PE7 do funny things... best to convert to WAV. You could also try the Render and replace for your timeline (under Audio) this will do what it says, render your timeline and replace it with a WAV file.

  • How do I create a slideshow in PSE 8.0 and share it on my website using Premiere elements 7.0.  I

I have created a slideshow in PSE 8.0 but how do I get it into Premiere Elements 7 to create a video I want to show in my website?  Do I have to buy Premiere Elements 8.0 surely ther must be a way to pass files?

Adobe is making it difficult for people who have Photoshop Elements 8 and Premiere Elements 7.
If you also have Photoshop Elements 7, I suggest that in the future you consider making your slideshows in Photoshop Elements 7 because it of course does support transfer to Premiere Elements 7. Or you can make the entire slideshow in Premiere Elements 7.
The only option that I can identify for making a file of your PSE 8 slideshow is to do a WMV file from the PSE 8 slideshow output command.
This approach has the disadvantage of doing a compression in PSE to make the WMV file and then doing another compression in Premiere Elements 7 for whatever format you will use to upload to your website.

What is the Output option that you are selecting for the transfer of the Elements Organizer 12/12.1 slideshow to Premiere Elements 12/12.1 Editor?
If you are using Edit with Premiere Elements output option, are you using the Premiere Elements command to break apart the Elements Organizer slideshow and then applying rotation to the portrait files? Or, it is this more than just a photo rotation matter?
More on this in the morning.
    Please review and consider.
    Thank you.

  • My Premiere Elements 12 tells me I need Premiere Elements to put a slideshow on to dvd.

I recently acquired  Elements 12 and Premiere Elements 12.  I made a slideshow in Organizer, and followed the Manual's instructions on how to proceed to get the slideshow to a dvd.  I get a drop-down from Premiere telling me I need Premiere Elements to do the task, and do I want get it from a dvd or try a trial version.  If I wasn't so frustrated and mad I'd think this was funny.  Can anyone explain what's wrong?
    Thank you,
    Norm.

My thanks to Peru Bob for transferring the matter, an hello to you A.T. Romano.
I'll respond to your first memo.
You understand correctly that I'm can't fully use Elements 12 or Premiere Elements 12, even after help from Adobe.  Several people at Adobe worked on the problem(s), the last being a Supervisor, and it appeared I was finally "up and running".  Then, I came upon the current problem.  Two case numbers were involved: 0185568696 and 185597498.  In answer to your question 1, I was sent an email from "[email protected]" providing two product serial numbers and instructions on how to download the products. I couldn't get the downloads to run to completion, thus I called Adobe.  Second question:both Elements 12 and Premiere Elements 12 are listed in my Control Panel's Programs and Features list.  Question 3: I did the slideshow in Elements 12 Organizer, then went to Premiere 12 Edit and clicked Add Media; the slideshow images all appear and  I selected them, then selected Project Assets, and the slideshow appears on the timeline.  I'm not doing any editing, so select Publish + Share, and choose DVD.  A pop-up displays and I complete the entries, most being left as is.  When I select to burn is when I've been getting the drop down with the message stated in my first Forum access.  Today, however, when going through the steps so I could answer your questions, when I select Pub&Share and get the pop-up, a warning on it says No burner.
I went through the procedure again and got a message Disk not present.  Again and again one or the other of these messages with my successive attempts.
Then it started burning!  When done I played the dvd back.  The images were there but not the titles/comments.  The user manual on page 61 says: create a slideshowin Photoshop Elements 6.0 or later... with captions ...and titles...Import the slideshow into Premiere Elements to edit further or burn a dvd..
It must be tiring for you to have to read all this, and I'm sorry for that. Will try to follow your outline of steps I can take to check on the status of Premiere on my system, and get back to you.  I'm a neophyte at all this, so It will take me some time
    Thank you for your patience,
    Norm.

  • Needing help making a Slideshow in Premiere 7

Back in 2008 several contributors on this forum helped me make a slideshow using Photoshop Elements 6 and Premiere Elements 4, which I am forever grateful for. It was a long process as I had never made a slideshow before, but after much labor I created a wonderful slideshow of my Alaska photos with music. After a lot of reading I decided to upgrade to Elements and Premiere 7, which I was able to actually do for free.   I purchased the Muvipix.com Guide to Adobe Premiere Elements 7 as I was told this would be a great resource to help me out. Well, here I am two years later trying to make a slideshow again and still as confused as ever. I am trying to make the slideshow in Adobe Premiere Elements, as I was told last time it was easier to do it that way if I wanted to add music to it. I am just getting started and am already confused.
My first question is: Am I best off making the slide show in Premiere Elements rather than Photoshop Elements? I want to add music to it.
I have tried using both the book that came with the program and the Muvipix book and I am lost on step one.
In the Adobe manual it says to deselect the Show Video and Show Audio buttons. Why do I need to deselect these?
In the Muvipix book it tells me to select a number of clips amd then either right-click on them or click on the ">>" button to access the "Create Slideshow" too.  I can't find the ">>" button. How do I access the the "Create Slideshow" feature?
I have a question about the stills that show up in the panel. Many actual photos appear in this panel. However, there are also a large group of boxes with two swirling arrows, one green and one red. Why are they there rather than actual photos? I have tried double clicking on a few and they all bring up the same photo folder from "my pictures." I am confused.
Sorry if my questions seem very basic, but this is not what I do for a living. It is a once every couple of year hobby. Perhaps if I ever get it downpat I will do it more often.
Thanks for any help you can give me. I am sure I will need a little more handholding. I have been looking for the last two years for a class on this program. I know that is what I need. However, none have been available in my area.

Thanks for the response Steve. I am hoping it will be easier this time around.
"If you're seeing empty boxes with swirling arrows in them instead of your photos in the Project panel, it means that the program no longer has access to the photos -- either because they were moved or the device that they were on (your camera?) was disconnected from the computer. You really need to copy these photos to your computer's hard drive if you're going to use them in a project"
These photos were still on the harddrive. I checked in Photoshop Elements and they needed to get reconnected. Here is what I think happened. When I download my photos, they go into MY PICTURES. When I move them from where they automatically get placed by the program, into a folder of my choice, they seem to get "unconnected". I was able to reconnect them and now they appear in Premiere Elements. Thanks for the tip which actually led me to a solution.
"There are actually at least four different ways to make a slideshow in Premiere Elements and Photoshop Elements. Each has advantages. Which method are you using? (In all cases, as I say in my book, you should make sure your photos are sized to no larger than 1000x 750 pixels in size before you begin.)"
I am just starting and I was using Premiere Elements 7. I thought I was told back in 2008 on this forum it was easier to do it all in Premiere Elements if I wanted to add music rather than creating it in Photoshop Elements and then moving it to Premiere. As far as photo size, I am a real beginner here. I have no idea what size they are or where to look to find that out. All I know is that  my Alaska slideshow turned out great and did nothing about changing pixels. Where would I find out how to change pixel size?
"It sounds like you're using the Create Slideshow tool in the Project media panel. (As I say in Chapter 1, you'll only be able to see the >> menus if you go to the Window drop-down menu and select Show Docking Headers.) You can also access this tool by selecting all of the photos you want to include in the Project panel and right-clicking on them."
I did read about Show Docking Headers and did follow that instruction. That was the first thing I did, actually. However, when I am in Premiere ELements, I still don't see where I find the Create Slideshow tool that you mention on p. 59. I am a bit confused with this option. I can move the photos I want from the panel to the Timeline, but I am confused as to where the "Create Slideshow Tool" is located.
Thanks again for your help.I know I will get this done, just very slowly.
