Adding Music to FCP from iTunes
I followed the instructions to add music to a FCP X program. On draging the music to the timeline a green rectangle appeared but there was no sound waves in it. What is wrong? The method works with some music but not others.

I have an iPad 1.
I've upgraded to iTunes 11.
I have used View > Show Sidebar, and can see the content on my iPad.
I select a song, and right click: there is no "remove" or "delete" option.
I hit delete: no result.
I hit FN+Delete: no result.
I can't seem to get the content on my iPad OFF of my iPad.
...anyone?

Help! I thought I was pretty good setting up slide shows and adding music. I'm trying to make a new slide show from a great trip to New York. I can get theme music but no music at all from iTunes. Checking my older slide shows, which did play music, it's all gone!
Problem seems to have started after updating to Mavericks.
Is there a box I need to check/uncheck?

In iTunes go File -> Library -> Organise Library -> Reorganise Library.
Then quit and restart iPhoto.
Pity Apple didn't either warn us or set up a bug fix! -
I have my personal music (not purchased from Itunes) stored in two locations, on my PC and on an external HD. How can I find out which directory itunes uses to access this music? I am using Itunes version 11.4.0.18. Thanks
Many thanks JEM24 for your help. Ive just spent the best part of six hundred pounds on a new Sony Rx100m2 compact camera, so I have no interest in the Ipods camera at all really. I doubt Ill be watching many videos on it as Im very lucky in that I have a good Android tablet. Its more as a stock music player that Ill be buying the Ipod for, if indeed I do end up buying one. I dont like the idea of paying the exorbitant amount added for more memory space that Apple along with most other companies charge. In fact I read an article on this very subject just yesterday in the tech section of Flipboard. It stated in the article that in the case of the Iphone the actual cost of each additional gigabyte of storage to Apple et al is something in the order of 60p.. This is certainly not reflected in the price us the customer has to pay at the till.. Its for this reason primarily that Apple in particular, because their products do not allow adding expandable memory of your own in the form of cheap to buy cards, that nobody in their right mind buys the 64gig etc Iphones..I am aware that we are discussing my potential purchase of an Ipod Touch here but you see my point. My iphone 4s ios 7/0/4 will not update music or apps from itunes 11.1.3. this was true with my pc since ios 7.0.3 even with update 7.0.4 and now continues with my new MacPro also runing itunes 11.1.3. as most state in previous threads, syncs all non itunes related data with no issue and appears to work correctly on itunes data but then hangs on the last step of updating until it times out. i have tried marking specific music to transfer, setting up new playlist, deleting some old playlist on phone but stopped short of restoring my phone back to new due to the amount of non itunes data that i will lose. The itunes setup on the macpro was completely with the download of all music from a previous external backup and the creation of new playlist - on the first sync with existing phone it did ask to overwrite all phone itunes data with macpro itunes data which i did accept - no different result - no changes on phone.
Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new). Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.
If the problem continues, take the device to Apple for evaluation and possible replacement. -
I've recently bought a new Macbook Pro and in my Itunes Library everything I have purchased from Itunes is in my new Itunes Library.
However I want to transfer all my music (not purchased from itunes) from my Ipad/Iphone to my new Itunes Library.... and I have absoutely no idea how to do this? Also I'm scared to press sync when my ipad is plugged into my Mac incase will loose all this music!
Help Please!The iphone/ipad/ipod is not a backup/storage device. The sync is one way - computer to iphone/ipad/ipod.
Copy everything from your old computer or your backup copy of your old computer. -
I made a mistake by pressing autofill on my hp windows laptop and all of my music was gone from itunes and my iphone 5s, how can i get my music back onto my iphone 5s?
Have you checked to see if the media files are still on the computer? See Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash.

Can't add music my iPhone from iTunes.
When I try to drag a song over to my phone, I get the circle w/ the syncing line through it, but it does not update/load.
[Manually manage music and videos] is checked. And, this is the only Mac I have ever used to add music to my phone.

Have you tried resetting the device (nothing will be lost): Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Apple appears (up to 30 seconds). Once the Home screen redisplays, see if your Music app is behaving normally.

itunes is not recognizing my ipod. there is no sync under file. I need to download the music just purchased from itunes.
can anyone help?Do you see your iPod under Devices on the left side of the iTunes window in the source list when it's connect to your Mac?
BTW... you sync iTunes media from the tabs in the iTunes menu, not from the File menu unless you are transferring iTunes purchases from the iPod to your Mac.

I have years worth of music on my PC that is about to die. If I get an iPad is there anyway to get the music from my PC onto the iPad? I have the iCloud but my understanding is only music actually purchased from iTunes lives int he cloud. I have music that was legally purchased and loaded to my iTunes account from cd's that I no longer own. I need a new laptop and am deciding between the iPad and the Mac book. I use the computer for music, photos, and web - nothing else and nothing fancy. I don't know that there is a way to save my huge music library without saving it to an external hard drive and then loading it to a new one (does the iPad have a port to plug an external hard drive into?)
First, you would need to make a backup of the entire iTunes folder on the PC. You could get music to the iPad if the PC was still functioning, or you would have to move the music to another computer. An iPad is not a laptop, and does not have a port to plug an external drive into. You can sync music to the iPad from the computer, but you are correct, unless you get iTunes Match, you would need a computer to copy the music to and then sync to an iPad.

Do you know --- the last time I tried to back up my itunes it asked for 106 cd's do you how to direct the backup to the external drive? By the way I found 3 back up cds from 2010 and 1 of the 3 cd's had an error.

Hm ... I guess I can't edit the post above. Anyway, I seem to have solved it by ...
Quitting iTunes.
Going into Home / Music / iTunes, and renaming the file "iTunes Library.itl" to "iTunes Library (corrupt).itl".
Entering Time Machine, and restoring the "iTunes Library.itl" file from a few days ago. I went back two days, which seemed far enough back to be "before" the problem but not far enough back to have trouble with recent acquisitions.
Re-opening iTunes - and everything seemed to be back in order.
So that's fine for now. We'll see if the solution is stable.
Very, very tentative assignment of blame: I believe iTunes crashed earlier today after I'd synced photos from my iPhone to iPhoto, and then iTunes crashed while iPhoto was closing (and taking its sweet time doing so). If that was indeed the case, that's at least the second time in the past couple of months that trying to sync iPhone photos to iPhoto has caused me significant problems. (The last time led to 80% of my iPhone suddenly being occupied by "Other", and a full restore of the darn thing.) -

And to make matters worse it didn't back up on my external hard drive so I would like to get all the music I purchased from iTunes back on to my new computer. Whether or not you'll be able to depends on what country you're in, and whether the music is still available in the iTunes Store.

I have removed all music/movies/etc. from iTunes due to duplicates. I have connected iTunes to a NEW library (38.33 GB) only to have the same problem, duplicates (2 or 3 of every song or 63.80 GB). I did not have this problem until syncing my library with the new Macbook Pro. I need a solution (a solution IS NOT sifting through my iTunes song by song and deleting the duplicates).
Try disabling the computer's antivirus and firewall.
- Next try the manual install method of:
iDevice Troubleshooting 101 :: iPhone, iPad, iPod touch
Place the iPod in recovery mode after the firmware download is complete and then restore using the instructions in the article. Sometimes recovery mode timeouts and returns to disabled before the firmware download is complete.

I have deleted my entire library and I can't even get one song to go through. Thoughts? I've been working with this all day. I have uninstalled iTunes, downgraded iTunes, upgraded iTunes again. I think your right that it is not completely impossible to match any song, although I have tried several songs from several different albums and none have worked so far. The weird thing is is that I have the same Match account on two different computers, and when I match a song on one and it gets stuck, I can see it in my library on the other computer but its greyed out. Not sure what that means. It has worked perfeclty for me since I got it in March, so I'm hoping whatever it is gets sorted out by Apple. If it starts working for any of you please let me know in this discussion!
