  • Adding network printers in Lion

Is there such a thing on the Mac OS 10.x system as adding a local printer using a TCP/IP port, where you can specify the printer's IP address as you would in WIndows?  If so, is it explained somewhere how to do that?
    Marty

There is such a thing as adding a local printer using TCP/IP, except on the Mac it is known as an IP printer. On 10.7 you open Print & Scan and click the plus button to add. Then in the Add Printer browser you select the IP icon. The resulting window lets you select the desired network protocol, such as IPP, LPD or HP Jetdirect-Socket (known as RAW Port 9100 on Windows). With the protocol selected you then enter the IP address of the printer, enter a queue name if necessary, and select the driver via the Print Using drop menu.

  • Network printers on Terminal Servers

    Hi,
We have 14 terminal servers (2008) that we work on and every time we add/remove a printer, I've been manually going onto each server and making the change (which is especially time consuming when adding network printers). I'm just wondering if anyone knows
a faster way to do this without going on to each TS and adding printer, etc? I know there is the Easy Print but we do not use it for various reasons. Also, all of our printers are on each TS, they are not user specific so it seems it should be easier. Any
    ideas?

    Hi,
Thanks for your posting in Windows Server Forum.
According to your comment, I can suggest you to try a script to add/remove printers. Go through beneath article for detail.

  • Can't find networked printers in mountain lion

Tyring to setup Mountain Lion with a networked printer.  Does not show up when trying to add printer.  This seems to be happening on any Mountain Lion computer that I setup.  (10.8.x)  Adding networked printers in Lion worked just fine, but not in Mountain Lion.
    Anyone have any ideas?

Printers don't advertise on Windows. The Windows print server can be configured to advertise a printer, but usually you must enter the details of the device to add it.
As for Mac, it sounds like you're talking about multiple network printers as opposed to a single network printer.
Do you know if the printer in question supports Bonjour?
How is this printer connected to the network - wireless or wired?
    Can you ping the printer?
Can you connect to its internal web page?
If you use a utility like Bonjour Browser, does this see the printer on the 10.8 Mac?
You may want to give some specific examples instead of a blanket statement.

    Hello,
It isn't the fw in Network you want o use or look at, that's for something completely different.
My first suspect is the Power Adapter on the LaCie has gone.
At the Apple Icon at top left>About this Mac, then click on More Info, then click on Hardware>Firewire, what is listed there?
    Reset the Firewire bus
If your Firewire or USB isn't recognizing any device.  A solution which has worked for some whose hard drive became invisible in 10.4 was simply to follow these four steps to reset the Firewire/USB bus:
    1. Shut the machine down.
    2. UNPLUG the power lead to the computer and any firewire/USB drive or devices.
    3. leave it for 10 minutes.
    4. Connect back up and reboot.

  • Editing Configuration.MOF For Network Printers/Mapped Drives SCCM 2012?

Question is in Configuration Manager 2007 I would edit the SMS Def MOF file and then run Datashift.vbs on all the clients to add a WMI class for mapped drives for inventory.  So most of my clients that I upgraded to 2012 already have that class added
to WMI. I just need to figure out what I need to do on the new server and Configuration.MOF (since SMS Def is missing in 2012) to tell it to collect the newly added classes during hardware inventory. I see that you can click on Set Classes in the client settings
but I don't see where you can check mapped drives or network printers there.

There is no out-of-box solution to handle this task.
But try this. This has worked for us really well. We've got 22000 machines inventoried.

  • Adobe Reader does not see all network printers

    Hi,
Any help on below would be greatly appreciated
    Thank you
    Issue:
When printing from Adobe Reader not all network printers appear in the list of printers
All other applications (notepad, word, excel, powerpoint) see all printers and are able to print
    Tried:
Drivers: Xerox model specific drivers, universal drivers, global print drivers
    Print Processors: Xerox, winprint
    Remapped / added printers
    Uninstalled/installed printers to print servers
Print servers: Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012

I also have this problem that Adobe Reader will not print, but this only occurred for me after installation of MS Office 2010.
The proposed solution of changing default printers does not work for me!
Does anybody have a real explanation as to what causes this problem and a real solution for it?
I have already tried re-installing Adobe Reader 9.3.4 and this had no effect. I am using Windows XP with SP3.
    thanks for any help ....

  • Install of HP network printers failing.

    OS- Windows 7 32bit
Printers-  Laserjet 2605dn and deskjet 6840
I had to reinstall Windows 7 because the spooler would not stay running.  That's working now.  When I try to install either printer through
"devices and printers" it finds the printers on the network just fine. When you say install you get the page that lists all the companies and models.  These two do not appear there, so you have to pick windows update.  It comes back and says it can't download the list of devices, to try again later.  Two days now and it still doesn't work. Tried downloading the drivers.cabs form Windows.update.catalog and manually put them in, but that fails also.  I have a dual boot 32/64 system and the 64bit worked not problem.  Microsoft gives you circular fixes that don't work.  Any ideas?  I went to the logs and it throws a error that just says it failed when I manually install.  Nothing on the auto-install.  I really don't want to go the port route.  Have always had problems with that as the ips change every power on.  Thanks
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Well here's the bottom line.  After reinstalling windows 7, down loading stand alone drivers for my HP printers, asking questions on multiple web sites, reading countless pages of computer chats,  here is what finally worked.
The spooler started working properly after the reinstall for local printers but the network printers would not load.
Finally, I ran a long usb cable from machine to laser printer and it installed automatically with no errors.
    I removed that device.
I added a new network printer the normal way and it installed correctly.
I then added the other network printer and it installed correctly.

  • Unable to add network printers

I'm trying to add two network printers to a Mac (has Panther and admitMac on it) and I'm having no luck.
Printer 1 is a Ricoh Aficio 450 (B&W) directly connected to the network.
Printer 2 is a Toshiba e-studio 311 also directly connected to the network.
I've tried adding the Ricoh as a share on our Windows-based print server then as a direct IP printer using either the JetDirect and the LPD options. No matter what, I end up getting a stack of paper coming out of the Ricoh (even if the document was created in Text Editor with a signle line of text).
We have specific instructions from the reseller for adding the Toshiba and which has worked for the other Macs that print to that printer.
    What am I doing wrong?

Try the Generic PCL 5e driver found in the Gutenprint driver set. Please downlaod the latest version.

  • Trouble adding wireless printers to macbook air

I have a mid-2011 11" MacBook Air. I'm trying to  add a couple of wireless printers we have set up on our network: Epson Artisan 1430 and Epson WorkForce 845. I've had no problem adding these printers to MacBook Pros we have, but neither printer will show as an option on the Air when I try to add them. ANy advice is appreciated.

You cannot use a phone number as a calling ID on an OSX device, you can only use an e-mail address as a calling ID.

  • Need helping printing to networked printers.

I need help setting up network printers that have a code on them for each individual. There is no place to put a code so the printer will know who is printing what. I have installed 3 printers and they will not print, they just go to a paused mode and when you hit resume in reverts back to pause because it is looking for a code. I have tried it another way but it asks for a user name and password and all we have are codes. The workplace is using a windows based server and the copiers are listed as followed.
    Konica biz hub c450
    Sharp ar m700n
    sharp mx700n
I need help to be able to print from my mac. I also have parallels running with xp installed and all the printers are installed on that side and printing fine. Hopefully someone can help me out.
    Thanks in advance

Hello and welcome to Apple Discussions.
In order to provide the user with the ability to input a user code, the respective printer driver would have to provide the facility. If this feature did exist on a previous version of OS X, then you may have to check the vendors web site to see if there is a driver for 10.6.
If you are not sure if the function was supported previously, then go through all the user menus for the driver. The function may be present but located in an unusual location. Or it could require an additional file (aka plugin) that could be missing from the driver installation or not compatible with 10.6.
The other thing to note is that if you have the Mac's printing via a Windows queue, you will have to provide user credentials for SMB print queues. This is typically a Windows user account - not the Mac's account details. If you don't want to create accounts for the Mac users on the Windows server, then you can use LPD rather than SMB to connect to the Windows queues. This does require UNIX Printing Services to be enabled on the server.

  • Network printers take long time to show in control panel - devices and printers

    G'day,
an annoying effect both on Win 8.1 and Win Server 2012 R2: after installing/connecting a network printer for a user, it takes about 10 minutes (sic!) till printer is shown in devices and printers...
Printer is shown and can be used immediately after connect in word/notepad, but properties of printers can only be managed via devices and printers. Work around for setting standard printer: open notepad, click
    print and right-click printer.
But we have to choose a special printer profile, which cannot be done else than devices and printers.
Sometimes even previously installed printers do not show for minutes after logon...
    Restarting spooler: no effect
    Changing drivers: no effect
Printers are Konica C554 series and 4700P series with Konica PCL drivers.
Print server for network printers in Win Server 2012 R2 (VM on Hyper-V 2012 R2)
    No other network issues.
    Thanks and regards.

Open the printer folder the spooler team built. It's hidden but available and will list just the printers not the devices.
If the print shows up immediately, the spooler has the information.  You will be running the shell command to invoke the old UI.
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/8d69181f-3b9f-43c0-ba6d-ba99fe5fc413/printer-visible-in-print-dialog-but-not-visible-in-devices-and-printers-revisited?forum=w7itprohardware
Enumerating into the Devices and printers UI is then the issue.

  • Is it possible to create a configuration profile that will install multiple network printers and their associated drivers

Is it possible to create a configuration profile that will install multiple network printers and their associated drivers?
I was not able to find profile manager on my employer's installation of 10.6 Server. Is this only a feature of 10.7/10.8 server?

10.6 server does not have profile manager, profile manager is only available in 10/7 and 10.8 server
for 10.6 server you'll need to use wgm and server admin
printer management with 10.6, I recommend you read the relevant server manuals regarding
print server and user management, printer management

  • Upgraded to 10.5.8 and now can't see either of my networked printers

Hello all, I just upgraded my G5 dual 2.5 to 10.5.8. I have two printers that are both connected to separate Airport Extremes. My G5 ethernet port is connected to a linksys WET11 wireless ethernet bridge, which is in turn connected to the wi-fi network of the main airport. Here is my problem. I can surf the web just fine, so clearly my G5 is seeing the Airport. However ever since upgrading to 10.5.8 I can't add either of my networked printers in the printer setup. It just doesn't see any printers. I've reset the printing in the OS (control clicking on the print prefs and resetting followed by reboot) I've rebooted both the printer and the airport separately and I've double checked that the printer is set as a shared printer in the airport admin software. My laptop (an ibook g4) also running 10.5.8, has no problem seeing both networked printers and printing to them. I'm flummoxed as to why my tower suddenly can't. (It could see both with the exact same setup running 10.4.11) Any ideas? Your help is greatly appreciated, since this is very frustrating! thanks,
    -Andrew

Your network setup is a little complicated. Can you explain it a little better and confirm that there's only one DHCP server in it - all devices get IP addresses from one of the Airport Extremes, for example?
It sounds like maybe you have two or more separated subnets.

  • Solution for Network Printers who've lost Appletalk?

Figured out what appears, so far, to be a solution to those having issues with older network printers and the loss of Appletalk in SL.
After trying everything recommended to make my HP 4050n work under SL, and just about to give up and start shopping for a replacement printer (much to my disgust - my 4050n has been a workhorse and is still in perfect working order, even at 10 years old!), I spied the $29 Apple USB Ethernet Adapter I purchased for my MB Air sitting on the corner of my desk.
Well, I had tried everything else to no avail (because my ethernet IP had to remain unchanged from its DHCP settings for my cable modem to work), I figured, what the heck, and moved the printer's cat 5 cable from my e-net hub/switch to the adapter plugged into a USB port. Lo and behold, SUCCESS!!!
The OS recognized it as a separate "USB Ethernet" device, allowing me to set a separate IP Address for the printer than the modem. Following the steps below, some as outlined already by others, I now have my legacy 4050n working and available as a network printer. Yay!
    1. Cold Boot your printer to reset to original factory settings (see manual or mfgr.'s website for method).
    2. Print out a configuration page using the printer's menu and note the new IP address (apparently, it's often 192.0.0.192).
    3. Plug in your printer's cat 5 cable into the adapter and the adapter into an open USB port.
    4. In System Preferences > Network, configure the new "USB Ethernet" selection's IP address manually (I used the "DHCP with manual address" setting) - I found that it's best to set it one number down from the printer address, so, in my case, at 192.0.0.191.
    5. Go to Print & Fax in System Preferences and click on the "+" button to add a new printer.
    6. In the drop down window select IP for the connection type at the top, then a protocol (in my case, I have the HP with a Jetdirect card, so the choice was the HP Jetdirect socket), the enter the printer address from the configuration printout and type an identifying name into the Name box. When I did this, it almost immediately found the correct Printer driver (something that had alluded me in all my previous attempts!) and I was back in business.
Here's the link in the Apple store to the adapter:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB442Z/A?fnode=MTY1NDA3Ng&mco=OTg5MjQ3NQ
    Hope this helps!

    Hi George,
Does this happen for every Network Printer or specific one?
Did you find any network performance problem during your issue?
Firstly, please check your printer driver, update to the latest version on both client side and Terminal server. If you are using Easy print driver then you can try to disable that and check the result. For that you need to disable the option “Use
Remote Desktop Easy Print printer driver first” under below path.
    Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Terminal Services\Terminal Server\Printer Redirection
In addition also check there is no any network issue. More information:
    1.  Printer Redirection
    2.  Bandwidth Allocation for Terminal Server connections over RDP
    Hope it helps!
    Thanks.
