Adding new songs to Ipod

Every time I want to add new songs through Itunes to my ipod it says I have to restore it and then I end up re-adding all my songs because everything get erased. Does any one know why this happens or what I can do so it won't happen?

By default the iPod is set to "automatically manage songs and playlists", whatever changes you make in iTunes are reflected on the iPod the next time you connect it. However if the library is different to what's on the iPod you need to change that setting to "manually manage songs and playlists" but first you need to prevent it auto-syncing and erasing the tracks off your iPod.
One way to do this is to use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys (on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘) keys). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer. Then go to Preferences>iPod and check the "Manually manage songs and playlists" box: Managing Your Songs Manually
One thing to remember about manually updating though is that the iPod also has to be manually ejected before the "Do Not Disconnect" message will go away. Safely disconnect iPod
There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the files from your iPod and return them to iTunes. This is just a selection, have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward.
iPod Access Mac and Windows Versions
YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
PodUtil Mac and Windows Versions
iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
PodPlayer Windows Only
PodPlus Windows Only
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again.

  • Adding new songs to ipod a 2nd time

    Hi everyone
I'm a noobie when it comes to using an ipod and itunes.I've already loaded about 5200 songs to my 30 gig ipod and they sound great but how do I add more songs without deleting all previous songs? It took 10 hours to load the current songs to my ipod.I just want to add a few more without deleting the current libary. Is that possible or do I have to delete the current list and load all the songs all over again. Thanks to all those who answer.

no i didn't delete them i just added a few more songs into itunes and when i try to sync to add the additional songs itunes wants to delete all the songs on the ipod and then completely reload the ipod with the entire library. All I'm trying to do is add more songs to the ipod without having to delete any songs off the ipod.In otherwords the itunes has all my music in it. But if down the road i want to add more music to my library and then to my ipod. I only want to sync the new songs to the ipod and not delete every song on the ipod just to reload the whole library.
    Thanks for responding

  • When trying to manually add new songs to ipod, itunes gets stuck on preparing to update and does not transfer songs.

While adding new songs to ipod touch, all was fine.
Then suddenly, everytime I tried to add new songs, Itunes got stuck on "preparing to update."
Now I can add no songs at all.

Somebody on twitter mentioned temporarily turning off their passcode before syncing and that seemed to help.

  • I tried to set up a new library for my old ipod nano so i could update songs on it however when i tried to import songs from a cd it crashed and i had to end task therefor not getting to sync the new songs with ipod nano. now i cant find old library

However during the process of adding new songs itunes crashed and i had to end task therefor not getting the chance to sync the new songs onto ipod nano. later when i plugged in my current ipod touch all my songs have disappeared and i cant find the original itunes library i had for it! is there anyway to get it back? i have tried pressing shift when opening itunes but still cant find the original itunes that i had!!

Since all of your music came from your computer in the first place, then it should still be there and should be included in your backup copy of your computer.
" it told me when i pluged hers in 2 ipods could not use the same account"
This is not true.  You have misunderstood.
You can sync as many ipods/iphones/ipads as you like to one one library.

  • ITunes 7 Help: No longer able to import new songs onto iPod

Hello, I'm experiencing a bad problem that is completely preventing me from adding new songs to my iPod.
This problem started when I got the new iTunes 7. Whenever I connect my iPod and drag and drop the songs, it would appear as if iTunes is importing them in what I call the "status box" at the top, however when it is done and I look on the song list, the songs are not there. I can also confirm that the importing failed when I see that the memory is dropping on my iPod but then instantly rises back up.
    What do I do?

Where can I download the latest version of iTunes 6?
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/itunes605forwindows.html
As noted by some others, a working flow appears to be:
    1) remove 7 using the control panel add/remove programs [some also report removing the new version of quicktime that came with 7 -- I did].
    2) find the file 'iTunes Library {dateyou_loaded7}.itl' [usually in 'My Documents/My Music/iTunes/Previous iTunes Libraryes'], copy it up one directory level, and re-name it 'iTunes Library.itl'.
    3) download and install the above version 605.
I had already installed the gen5 firmware upgrade that came with 7, and it seems to work fine with version 6, with no need to 'downgrade' the firmware.
    Your mileage may vary.

    Your post isn't clear.
What does "i reset my account" mean? What account?
"couldn't retrieve it". What is "it"?
What method are you using to transfer songs to the iPod, and what happens when you try?
The more info you give, the better we can help.

  • HT4527 I set up my iphone with my laptop but now its broken is there anyway of adding new song using anpther laptop/desktop computer without erasing everything currently on my phone?

I set up my iphone with my laptop but now its broken is there anyway of adding new song using anpther laptop/desktop computer without erasing everything currently on my phone? I have no access to my old computer and the songs on it are from cds not itunes purchases
    Please help!!

    1) ensure iTunes is authorized for your iTunes store account(s)
    2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
    3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPhone but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPhone with it.
above works for purchases from the iTunes store. for everything else, check out this post by Zevoneer.

Syncing shouldn't trouch you photos unless you have photos in a Photo Library album.  These would be photos that were synced to your phone from your computer.  If you do have any, you'll need to use an app like PhotoSync to transfer them to your computer prior to syncing.
If you prefer to backup your camera roll photos prior to syncing, open iTunes and go to Preferences>Devices and check "Prevent...from syncing automatically".  Then connect your phone to your computer and import them as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.
Then, to minimize data loss, follow the steps in this user tip: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141.  To follow the steps, first open iTunes and go to View>Show Sidebar.  Also, Transfer Purchases is now located in File>Devices.

  • Restored computer to original settings need to export new songs to ipod

Ok this is a two part question. I recently erased and reinstalled tiger osx. im new to the world of ipod so i did not know that erasing all the songs on itunes would put it out of synch with the computer. i thought it might and tried deleting a couple hundred and the updated the ipod but all the song were still on the ipod. So my question is this: is there a program that i can use to export new songs to ipod with out erasing whats on there already? i tried to drag the itunes folder onto the ipod icon but that did not work. The ipod i have is a 30gig video. second part of the question is if i have to import all the songs from ipod to the computer how woould i do that seeing that it is not in sych anymore.
    thanks for the help

    Try Senuti.
It's a free program that transfers music from iPod to iTunes on a Mac.

  • Help with adding new song to 2007 iPod shuffle

I have an iPod shuffle from 2007 and just recently went to add new songs to it.  Itunes program keeps telling me I have to erase everything and reload w/ new playlist I've added??  Confused, don't remember it working like this last year when I added songs.  Any help??

With the 1st and 2nd gen iPod shuffle, it can only be associated with one iTunes library at a time.  That has always been the design.  It is basically like a mobile playlist for iTunes the library.  The 3rd and 4th gen shuffles work more like the "bigger" iPods that have a screen, which is different from the very simple 1st and 2nd gen.
If you previously used this shuffle with a different iTunes library, iTunes is asking if you want to associate the shuffle with the iTunes library you are now using.
    Any help??

  • IPod Not Automatically Adding New Songs When First Plugged In

For some time now, my iPod Nano (currently running iTunes 12.0.1.26) will not automatically add new songs when its first plugged into my MacBook Pro. I have to click the Sync button in the lower right hand corner of iTunes and then it will. I could swear it would automatically add new songs to the Nano but now it doesnt...
Sync Music is checked, Entire Music Library is checked.
Is this one of those new added features of new versions of iTunes? (sarcasm)
    Thank you.
    Scott

    Nevermind...my fault.
The setting for preventing auto synching in Preferences, Device Preferences was checked.
    Sorry.

  • I added new songs in itunes and sync'd to ipod but the playlists that were changed are now in the wrong location. e.g. "Instrumental" playlist is now between letters M and N on my ipod, but in right location in itunes.  How do I fix this?

Also, I can no longer find my "Recently Added" playlist.  I have searched every title in my playlists and its no longer there.  It's really frustrating because now if I want to listen to a new playlist that I've added new music to I have to really search for it.  Please help!  Thank you!

This worked. Yesterday after I logged out - I continued to try to figure it out, and came up with the same solution. I made a smart playlist with both types.
However, I had tried to drop those into the green purchased file yesterday and it would not accept them. Today it works.
Guess it is like a car. It makes a noise, and when you take it to the dealer, it stops making that noise.
I went and looked at all of the songs I had purchased. Some of the more recent songs say Protected. The first five I purchased just say "AAC audio file" but if you look at them in their file, they have the little lock icon on them, as the purchased and protected ones do.. So I dunno... ??
    Thanks for the help.

  • Can't sync new songs to iPod after hard drive replacement.

A few months ago, I had my hard drive replaced on my Windows Vista laptop. So I backed up all my files including iTunes to an external drive. When the new hard drive was installed I restored the iTunes library back. Yesterday was the first time since the restore that I purchased new music from the iTunes store. I bought 6 new songs. I can see the new songs in the iTunes library but when I sync the iPod the new songs do not transfer over to the iPod. Any ideas on how I can fix this problem? Thanks.

I found the link below and it worked. I added the songs manually.

    All set now.

  • ITunes will not sync new songs to ipod (all of a sudden)

I have not had an issue syncing before, I have just added heaps of songs to itunes, connected my iPod, it states Updating ipod for a few seconds and then Ipod Update is complete and yet no new songs or my new play lists appear on my ipod, what am I doing wrong?

I have tried both with no success, I was hoping that I wouldn't have to restore it, but it looks as though I might have to. Cheers Dazz.
