Adding pages to custom templates

Hi I'm returning to the Mac after many years away and I'm hoping someone can help me. I designed a recipe template in Pages with text boxes formatted the way I want. But I can't seem to add pages to the template or document that keep that specific format of 4 text boxes with certain attributes - nothing fancy. How do you add a page that keeps the same setup of text boxes as the first page? Thanks for any help you can give.

I just happen to stumble across this question trying to get a question answered myself. I am not sure what formatting is getting changed when you attempt to add a new page or how you are adding a new page. So I will make the following assumptions. Please let me know how far off I am.
When you are adding a new page I assume that you are using [Menu] Insert -> Page Break.
When you say the formatting changes you mean that the Text Boxes move to locations that you do not want.
If this is the case then you will want to select the text box and then look into the inspector [Menu] View->Show Inspector. Go to the Wrap Inspector (3rd tab from the left) and ensure the "Floating (doesn't move with text)" is selected. This should let you place the text boxes anywhere and the text will just "deal with it". This also means the text boxes don't care where page breaks are either.
Another way of placing text in columns or in an arranged order is to use a Table. You can remove the headers and show or hide boundary lines. I often use table to layout my text and then remove the borders. This looks great when you need to write out terms and their definitions.
Hope this helps.

  • Adding a page from custom Templates in Pages 5

    I know a lot of features have been removed, but this HAS to be my own operator error.
    Currently using Pages 5.1 on all of my macs 10.9.2
    I build multi page templates in pages. For example: a cover page, a storyboard page, a notes page, looks page and an end page.
    I used to save a custom template that consisted of a layout for each page, then, under 'sections' I could add multiples of any page.
    I usually need mroe than one storyboard page, multiple notes pages, and could easily do this.
    I cannot figure out how to add additional preconfigured pages as I need them.
    I know I can no longer duplicate a page (workaround is grouping everythin on a page, copy and paste to a blank page... seriously)
    And the only thing I can figure is to make a new template with 40 of each custom page layout, so I have multiple custom
    I have to be missing the new method to do this.
    thank you in advance.

    Gone.
    Removed by Apple along with 100 other fetaures.
    Pages '09 should still be in your Applications/iWork folder.
    Use that instead.

  • Location of Pages 5 custom templates

    It took some looking, but I wanted to delete several templates I created in Pages 5. I found my templates quite buried in the user library folder.
    If you are looking for templates you have created, look here:
    '/Users/you/Library/Containers/com.apple.iWork.Pages/Data/Library/Application Support/User Templates/'
    D

    Thanks, very helpful, except one step in the middle was left out which may confuse some people
    Library/Containers/com.apple.iWork.Pages right-click, Show Package Contents
    Data/Library/Application Support/User Templates
    You can also find the Numbers 3 templates by substituting Numbers for Pages in the above string.
    Note: If all you want to do is Delete or Rename templates, that's probably easier to do by right-clicking the template in the Template Chooser Window.

  • Two questions - adding pages once the template is done and searching this site for already answered

    I have my template in .dwt and am ready to add new pages.  I forgot where to begin.  I know it is something super easy (the whole point of making the template), but I scrubbed my brain over Christmas and now have no idea.  Thanks.
    Is there an easy way to search this blog?  Maybe folks have asked my questions in the past and I can find their answers.  Couldn't find how to search.  Thanks, O Patient People.  -the newbie

  • Old custom templates in Pages 5 .select background item?

    I have some custom templates from iWork 09, that worked fine until this pages 5.22 came along.
    They are in Word Processing Layout, and also have a separate text box or two.
    In Pages 5.22 I can not longer select them, they just appear on the screen as the "Type to enter text' words.
    the only way I can select the box is to 'Convert to page layout.
    but if i do that, then all the other custom text is deleted, ...a warning is given and other text is gone.
    In previous pages, there was an option to 'Select background Item' or a similar entry that allowed me to select these particular text boxes, but in the is new Pages that option is no longer there now the Inspector pane has been changed.
    The Arange Tab appears in Page layout, but not in the WP layout...it must have been there before otherwise how else would I have added the text box?
    Anyone have any idea how I can make all my old templates usable in this new  of Pages
    Thanks

    In the Template Chooser for Pages ’09, there is a category heading named “My Templates,” and by default, there is a physical folder in the following location called My Templates. You are permitted to create arbitrary folder(s) in this location through File > Save As Template… for perceived organization. However, the Template Chooser, unlike the Finder, does not show these sub-folders in its left-hand navigation panel. Instead, it shows all templates (including sub-folder contents) in one view — thus subverting your practical organizational goal.
    <login directory>/Library/Application Support/iWork/Pages/Templates/My Templates
    When you are presented with the file dialog during the Save as Template… activity, it defaults to the My Templates folder location. Click the selector that shows My Templates, and choose the next higher Templates folder. Now, you create a new organizational folder here (mine is called Journals), and it will show up separately under the My Templates category heading — and the related templates are not shown in the general My Templates folder item view.
    If I were to manually create empty folders in the above Templates folder using Finder, as long as they are empty, Pages will not list them in the Template Chooser.

  • Sparse templates (when adding page types)

    I'm not sure if this has already been posted in the forum, but I discovered it as I dealt with the growing number of templates, v1.1 templates, and custom templates that my iWeb now has. Also helps stub out the v1.1 'Blank' page type for older custom templates.
    When adding templates to iWeb, iWeb seems to like it's TemplatesInfo.plist to contain EVERY page type for EVERY template. However, as I'm developing a new template, I sometimes like to have just a few page types defined... or, sometimes I create a simple template for a simple site that only has a couple of page types.
    So, when I am defining the new entries for each template within a page type, I specify a bogus filename (I use "Unavailable.webtemplate") for any entry where I don't have that page type / template combination. For example, if my "DogDays" template only has a Welcome and Blog page type, then in every other page type the DogDays template's entry will use the bogus filename.
    Pictures help make this much more clear, so here's a page that I posted to remind me how to add a new page type... I use the bogus "Unavailable.webtemplate" in the example:
    http://web.mac.com/dovinci/iWeb/dovinci/New%20Page%20Types.html
    It also shows what the "page picker" in iWeb looks like.

    Hi,
    The design for a calendar date box is determined by the "formRegionBody" class style (at least according to theme 12). You, therefore, need to update this.
    In theme 12 ("Blue"), this is defined in the css as:
    .formRegionBody {
    font-size:12px;
    font-weight:normal;
    color:#285577;
    background-color:#D7DFE6;
    border-left:1px solid #BFBFBF; border-top:1px solid #BFBFBF;
    border-right:1px solid #FFFFFF;border-bottom:1px solid #FFFFFF;
    You can either update the css or add the above in a style tag on your calendar page (adjusting the colours as required).
    Regards
    Andy

  • I am changing from Word to Pages. I have created my custom template with all my styles etc and that is what comes up when I go for a New Document. Fine. How do I get it to use the same Custom Template when I use Pages to open a Word document?

    I am changing from Word to Pages. I have created my custom template with all my styles etc and that is what comes up when I go for a New Document. Fine. How do I get it to use the same Custom Template when I use Pages to open a Word document?

    The template is a document in itself, it is not applied to an existing document whether it is a Pages document or a Word document converted to a Pages document.
    You would need to either copy and paste content, using existing styles, or apply the styles to the converted Word document.
    You can Import the Styles from an existing document and those imported Styles can be used to override the current document's styles:
    Menu > Format > Import Styles
    The process is simplified if the styles use the same names, otherwise you will need to delete the style you don't want and replace it with the one that you do want when asked, then the substitution is pretty straightforward.

    Pages stores those you created & saved as templates in (your account) > Library > Application Support > iWork > Pages > Templates > My Templates. The door to the user's Library is hidden in Lion but it is easy to open. In Finder, hold down the Option key while clicking on the Go menu & your users Library will appear about halfway down the list.

  • Can not create template based page with customized page type.

    I built a customized page type (with persepective attribute) and wanted to build pages with this type. If the new pages do not based on any template, it works fine. However, if I wanted to use a template, the page type was set back to "standard"!
    Steps to reproduce it:
    1. create a new page type - test page type.
    2. create a new template = test template.
    3. create a new page - test page.
    3.1 choose the page type to be "test page type"
    3.2 fill in the form including the new attribute info.
    3.2 choose the page template to be 'test template"
    3.3 click finish
    4. click the properties of "test page", it shows that the page type is "standard" and the new attribute information is gone!
    If in step 3.2, no template is chosen, the properties of the new page shows the page type is "test page type".
    I tried to find a workaround.
    1. create a page with "test page type".
    2. covert the new page to template.
    I got this error message:
    Error while copying page. (WWC-44262)
    (WWC-00000)
    Looks like customized page type and template can not coexist. Is this a bug?

    How long should the upgrade take? And should it be attempted on a production (infrastructure on machine 1/middle-tier on machine 2) Windows 2000 architecture? Or should be wait for 9.0.4? Or ... should I ask this in a TAR? Thanks!

  • Creating a custom template in pages....can it be done?

    Just wanting to create a custom template to use in pages to save time and help with small business.  Is there a way to do this?  I hope so.  Look forward to hearing from anyone with info on this.

    When You select Cube in New Shape from Layer and select Scale the 3D Object from the 3D Scale Tool options You can enter values.
    Then You can load, create, open textures for the other surfaces.
    If You have Photoshop CS4 Extended that is.
