Adding Passwords

Does anyone know how to password protect a pdf? The old Adobe was able to apply a password and now that I have Adobe Reader 8.0 I can't seem to find a way to do it. I have clients that request a password to open the document.

No, it's not possible to change the font. No, you cannot show description in a slide show. If you want to make a title slide, create the Slide in any word processor and then go to Print it. In the Print dialogue select the pdf button and choose Save pdf to iPhoto. It will creat a jpeg of the slide and you can use that as your title slide.

After adding password to router, Mountain Lion won't connect

I added a 128-bit WEP* password to my FiOS router today. As soon as I did so, my iPhone and iPad both prompted me for the password. Mountian Lion wouldn't. It claims to be connected to the router, and acknowledges that it's password protected with a lock icon in the menu bar WiFi menu. But it never prompted me for the password and as a result it can't connect to anything. What I've tried:
* Turning WiFi off and on.
* Rebooting
* Ensuring there is no password saved in Keychain
* Deleting the "remembered" WiFi spot in System Preferences->Network->WiFi->Advanced
* Testing the Mac on a different WiFi network (it works fine).
* "Join Other Network" where I entered the network by name and its password. The Mac said it could not find that network.
So basically I'm stuck. If the Mac doesn't prompt for the password, I can't force it to take it.

* Oh, and before you ask why I used WEP and not WPA2, the latter did not appear as a choice in the FiOS router setup. It was WEP or nothing. Ask Verizon why they prefer lesser security. ;-)

I got very good tech support recently when I was having trouble with email accounts.

Firefox will NOT sync since adding password integration add-on for my macs. Is there a plan to resolve this conflict? Once I uncheck password sync works.

I continue to obtain a sync error with unknown error. After spend a few hours online and troubleshooting, I determined by un-checking password sync, no errors were received. I added the add-on for Mac password integration and can only conclude that adding this feature has conflicted with my sync. Does anyone know of any issues or are there fixes already in place I am unaware. I am at that point to return to Safari for my macs due to this and other issues I have been having with Firefox. Thank you for your question. I would recommend you try the new Firefox Sync, however currently it is available in beta starting Thursday.
If the device is already authenticated and is syncs automatically, then the password does not have to be added every time. I do not understand how the Mac password integration works as you describe it to.
If you are talking about choosing to sync stored passwords across devices please select any duplicates that may be stored in the profile under the preferences.

Adding password protection to a modified PDF file in iOS Reader 10.3

Is there a way to add a password to a PDF file that was modified from an unprotected PDF original, using the free iOS version of Reader, without having to buy a third-party app?
On that note, can you protect a subfolder within the Documents folder without leaving the app?

actually i'm using acrobat reader version 9.0 where there is an option document>security,security setting options.But if i go through them also i'm not able to set a password to pdf document...
to be in brief,
in Document -> security option
Show security properties
Import security settings
in Document -> security settings option
a security setting dialog will open saying about digital signatures..

Adding password to old Airport Base Station.

I need to password protect the old Airport Base Station (dual ethernet). I have tried the support documents but it did not work. I have an express plugged in and my Airport Utility only sees that one. I have tried plugging the old base station into the iMac with an ethernet cable but then got stuck.
I'm using an iMac with OSX 10.5.4.

Ok, the version you just downloaded should be compatible with both Tiger and Leopard. It's primary purpose is for administrating the old 802.11b AirPort Base Stations, both the Snow and the Graphite. The new AirPort Utility replaces both the AirPort Admin Utility and the AirPort Setup Assistant. So between the AirPort Utility and AirPort Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow, you should be able to administer any of the AirPorts.
Do you still happen to have the old AirPort Admin Utility or AirPort Setup Assistant installed on your Mac? If so, this might be the reason for the error message.

How to Locate Drop Down Menu for Adding Password to Website

When I add my password information to a new website after site accepts the same, all is well. However, on frequent occasions I have wanted to change the password manually, or, perhaps there was some delay or flub and the finished password does not get saved for easy access to the website because the drop down or pop-up box asking if I want to save the password is gone too soon, and I don't know where it is situated in order to navigate to it to make changes manually.
I hope I have not confused this issue for reads here, as I don't actually know what the function is called other than to phonetically call it the save and remember password function. Thanks in advance.

Adding password policies to historical instance.

Newbie here - just inherited management of our LDAP systems so please be patient.
We've got a directory instance that has been multiply upgraded. Originally it was based on OpenLDAP then SUN DS5, through DS6 and now DS7.
We have a requirement to add password policies to a subgroup within the repository which I believe I have done but it doesn't seem to work.
So far, taken server from DS5 compat mode to DS6-mode, created password policy via admin interface and applied it to relevant group. Features of the policy are password lifetime, 3 incorrect login attempts, password dictionary etc etc.
Problem: test user tries to log in. After 3 failures there is no lockout. User can fail login any number of times then a correct attempt will work.
The custom policy is set to override the global policy for the affected group.
The question is why is the policy not being followed?
I'm concerned there may be some historical feature of the schema which is preventing the policy from functioning. If this is the case ( and how would I find out if this is so) what might be done about it?

I'm sorry. Too old to understand this stuff. I'm sure this seems real stupid to you. But I have no idea how one
would "right click on the Original iPhoto Library" (I know, I know, 'as stated").
Do I right click on the symbol in the dock?? Or open it first and then, . . I can't find a way to right click on the word iPhoto in the top bar.
Or should I open the program you had me download. There I can find something called "original iPhoto library".
When I "right click" on that I get some options. None of them are "original folders". There's "reveal library in finder", and "dupilicate library and "sort libraries". I have no idea if any of these are what you want, or if any of these might change something.
When I clicked on "reveal library in finder" earlier on it showed me the copy of the photo library that I made a while ago, sitting right where I know it is on my desktop. And if I click on that symbol it shows me all the pictures again. Just like in my regular iPhoto files - all the thumbs are there, but most can't be opened to full sized.
Are we making progress here? I'm sure this is frustrating to you. This is just pictures of family. Even the thumbs are nice to look at. But this is nothing critical - like work related or anything.

Adding Password Policy with a use of CoS

I am trying to add a new password policy for our suffixes 1,2 ,3. I have read the DS 6.3 Admin manual P # 182. I am bit confused. Can some one write me sequence of steps.
For example: step1: add a new policy for ou=suffix1,o=com
step2: add new policy to DS, etc....
I have tried the example from the manual but it seems the syntax is wrong in the book. I am getting Invalid DN syntax error ...for CoS

How to ignore the password policy in a custom workflow?

We have a custom workflow which is called via SPML to provide 'Administrator Change Password' functionality in a portal.
Our password policy sets the String Quality rules and Number of Previous Passwords that Cannot be Reused. But we like to bypass the password policy when the password administrators (who have a admin role with a capability - 'Change Password Administrator'). At least, restriction ' Number of Previous Passwords that Cannot be Reused' need to be ignored (But password need to be added to the history... cannot disable adding passwords to history).
Please advice me how it could be achieved?
The workflow steps:
1. Checkout 'ChangeUserPassword' view for the user as an administrator
2. Set the new password in the view, set true to view.savePasswordHistory
3. Set password on the resources
4.Checkin the view

My main goal is to skip the password history check (new password can't be a last used 10 passwords) when admin change password workflow is launched. As you suggested , I created a special password policy exactly as our regular password policy excluding "Number of Previous Passwords that Cannot be Reused" setting.
Then before change the password of a user as admin, special policy is attached , password changed, and user's password policy is reverted back to regular one. The issue is, as the special policy does not enforce the password history check, the whole password history of the user is wiped out from the user object when the password is changed by admin change password workflow. We don't want this to happen.
Please guide me whether is anyway to achieve just ignoring the password history without any other impact on user.
Is adding passwords to user object's password history list is triggered by "Number of Previous Passwords that Cannot be Reused" setting of the password policy??

Outlook 2011 for Mac suddenly requiring passwords

I've had Outlook 2011 for Mac installed on my Pro (Operating System: Mavericks) for 5 months now and all of a sudden, it's requiring that I enter my password for each email account (I have 4) every time I log in to the program.
I've typed in the passwords and selected "save to keychain" but that doesn't seem to solve the problem. Please help as this is extremely aggravating!

Note: This can be a sign of database issues in Outlook or you can simply ignore and it will connect without adding passwords. Mail also has this issue with passwords

Open Keychain Access in Applications/Utilities.
Run Keychain First Aid

In Keychain, filter on an account in the top right search box.
Open the entry.
In the Attributes window, select to Show password. You'll need to enter your computer login password to view.
Verify it's entered correctly.
Next click on the Access Control tab.
Do you see Outlook listed? If not add it.
You might also find many duplicate entries in the keychain. Most email accounts have a sending and receiving entry. However the Keychain.app does not delete old ones when you add a new password so this list can become cluttered. You might want to delete all entries for your email account(s) and add passwords again in Outlook.
If you have Exchange or IMAP you might want to test the new Outlook v15 free in preview. Requires Yosemite.

How to recover the Outlook password?

I have just started a new job, and am on my own in an office (no IT support).
I am using Outlook 2007, but we can't recieve any emails. The pst file is almost 3GB so i have made another one and am trying to clear old stuff from the old one to the new to free up space. However, it wont let me delete or remove any emails or folders from
the old pst. I can't change the settings because it's password protected, but no one knows what the password is (could have been set by an old employee years ago). Is there a way of recovering the password and accessing the settings of the old pst so i can
start clearing stuff?
