Adding photo to an iMovie is an exercise in frustration

I have iMovie 08 on Leopard 10.5.3.
On my account I can create a movie, add (mp4) clips, add photos, add music and all is well.
On my sons account for whatever reason we can't add photos to a movie project. He has pictures imported into iPhoto from a Nikon Coolpix 5200, these show up find in the photo catalog but whenever I try dragging them to the movie they never appear.
i.e. I drag and drop a picture but there is not thumbnail of the picture in the movie although I can undo the picture add in the edit menu which makes no sense since there's nothing to undo.'
The default photo duration is set to 4s and I've tried all kinds of things to get the photo to show up in the Movie.....wth???
The pictures are all in jpg format and show up fine in iPhoto.
Help appreciated.

You'll know if QT pro is not installed because the majority of menus will have 'get pro' annoyingly stamped on to them. QT pro predominantly releases the ability to export.
For what you need you would probably be better off taking your movies in to iTunes, under the playback prefs choose 'playback video in artwork viewer'. You can then drag the screen to increase the size of the artwork viewer.

IMovie - I have video interview and added photos. I want to add sound to the photos. They are at the end of the video. I added one free music sound over the start of the photo section. How do I continue to add music to the following photos?

My iMovie starts with an taped interview then I added photos.When I added sound it went over the video, so I moved it down over the photos. I want to add more sound (music) over the remaining photos. How do I insert background music at a specific area?

*adding photos....not from iphoto....to imovie*

I'd like to know how/if i can add photos to my imovie vid from say....my downloads?
Right now, when i try to add photos the only options that show up are iphoto and photobooth.
If i have to move the pics from downloads, over to iphoto....how do i do it?
I'm making a Youtube vid and would like to post inspiration pics i got from the internet.

You can open a Finder window and drag photos into your project directly.

I've included alot of old photos in an iMovie project and would like to include them on the finished DVD I create with iDVD. I woud like the users to be able to have access to them so they can print them, store them on their own computer or whatever they would like to do. How would I do this?

You do this by creating a DVD-ROM section on your DVD. See this explanation from iDVD Help.
Adding files to the DVD-ROM portion of a disc
You can let viewers copy files directly from your DVD by adding the files to the DVD-ROM portion of the disc. These files are burned onto the DVD and are accessible when the disc is viewed on either a Windows PC or a Macintosh computer, but not a DVD player.
You can add any kind of file to the disc. For example, if your disc contains a slideshow, you can add the image files to the DVD-ROM portion of the disc so viewers can download them to their own computers and print them. You can also add a file containing your movie production notes and other “extras.”
To manually add files to the DVD-ROM part of your disc:
Choose Advanced > Edit DVD-ROM Contents.
The DVD-ROM Contents window opens.
Click Add Files, or click New Folder first if you want to create a folder to put the files in.
Browse to select your files or folders, then click Open to add them to the disc.
You can also drag files directly to the DVD-ROM Contents window. When you are done, just close the window.
When you add a file to the DVD-ROM portion of your disc, before you burn the disc the project contains just a reference to the location of the file on your hard disk, not the actual file. So if you delete a file from your computer or move it from its location after adding it to the DVD-ROM contents, you get a “File not found” message when you try to burn your disc. You can either remove these missing files from the DVD-ROM contents or find them on your computer and put them back in the original location so iDVD can access them.
As you add files to the DVD-ROM contents, be sure to check the DVD Capacity meter in the Project Info window to find out how many gigabytes of disc space are being used. The Capacity meter shows the disc space taken up by the video portion of the disc as well as the DVD-ROM portion.

Added photos to selection are not appearing correctly

I am making a photo slideshow on imovie.. Numerous times, I add a photo after a previous one, it is formatted with no Ken Burns, and to fit the screen, and time and again, the image appears incorreectly as either the previous image, or one that was previously deleted. And I am REALLY not impressed with this from Apple.. I have never had these issues with their products..
What am I doing wrong, because the simple drag and drop aint workin that's for sure.

To clarify, what no longer shows on the iPhone is the "Saved Photos" which are those that have not been synced and now only show in the iPhoto sync when phone is plugged into the Mac.
All there is now other than albums is "Recenty Added" which shows only the most recent addition, then those disappear when new photos are taken.
What will happen to those pictures that now only show scattered though the pictures option (vs albums) when a new iPhoto library will be used next year?

How to Sort or Import video and photos together in iMovie?

This is a common request and I haven't seen a good answer. I'm trying to import a collection of video clips and photos from a trip together to make a timeline based video/photo slideshow (just adding music and some text for fun). All the media files (from a few cameras and smartphones) are properly timestamped. The files are even named such that in the folder on disk they can be sequentially sorted (YYYYMMDDhhmmss.mov or YYYYMMDDhhmmss.jpg). In most Windows based movie making applications simply importing all the files together (video and photos in one big drag and drop) puts them in order into the slideshow for tweaking/editing and adding music. But iMovie (which is what I want to use on my MAC with its great tools) doesn't let you import all the media together or easily sort all the content by source file name or timestamp (or anything as far as I can tell) once you drag all the video and photos into the project (separately since video importing and photo adding are done separately).
With 200+ photos and video clips it is too time consuming to manually arrange them in time order (interlacing the video clips into the photos in the proper time).
What can be done? I've seen this question since around 2009 and assumed that iMovie 11 would have a simple way to just sort the project timeline. Any help?

On what computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 13 running?
There are several ways to avoid disturbing an existing Timeline when you are adding to it.
1. Using what are called keyboard modifiers, such as Ctrl or Alt (Windows).
2. Grouping block of clips so that the clips move together

It uses a version of Premiere Elements earlier than 13, but the principles involved are the same.
The video and audio that are going out of sync.... are they linked or grouped before the addition to the existing Timeline?
After the fact, you will need to move the Timeline components back in place.
If the video and audio are not linked or group, you can
(a) highlight the clip, hold down the Alt key of the computer main
keyboard and tap the appropriate arrow key for a 1 frame per tap nudge of the clip.
(b) highlight the clip, hold down the Shift+Alt key of the computer main
keyboard and tap the appropriate arrow key for a 5 frames per tap nudge of the clip.

Unfortunately, photo stream on a PC is iffy at best. Many people have problems getting it to work properly, including myself. A work around would be to use an app like PhotoSync on your PC, which can send photos wirelessly to the camera roll on any of your iOS devices on the same wifi network. Once in the camera roll, you iOS device will be added to your photo stream.

Adding photos to an album whilst zoomed in on the photo

I'm creating a few albums (first time, I've always worked in the Events, but need a little more flexibility) and when I'm adding photos I can easily drag them to the album name on the left when looking at the thumbnails in the event, but after double clicking and viewing them zoomed to fill the frame I have to back out of it and then drag the thumbnail in.
Is there a way to do this from the zoomed in photo to save this step?

If you remove the flag it doesn't delete the photo, just removes it from the smart Flagged album.

Adding Photos To Photo Stream From iPhoto Doesn't Work.

Hi,
I'm a new Mac user, just becoming acquainted to Mavericks. I've imported all of my photos into iPhoto, have found some photos I wanted to share with some friends. So, I selected the Photos, then clicked the "Share" icon, then "iCloud". I created a new stream, and shared it with my friends. The stream appeared on my iPhone & iPad, and my firends have accepted my invite. But the photos have not been added to the stream.
I tried adding the photos again to no avail.
I have also tried adding photos to streams that I had already created on my iPhone, but the photos are not added.
No error messages to be seen; I have also checked the iPhoto preferences, under the iCloud option, all check boxes are ticked.
Any ideas?

Photo pixelating in iMovie

I extensively have tried to resolve the following issue via apple web site searches, two phone conversations with apple, and many, many varialbe of "self tests" to mini dv, idvd, quicktime, etc. Tired directly dragging photos into iMovie, different export options from iPhoto, etc.
When I refer to picture quality issues, I am referring to the final output of the project from iMovie HD 6/iDVD to a DVD and to miniDV tape as viewed on a tv screen.
iMovie project for School's sports team. Photos shot with Nikon D80 10.2 MP digital SLR at the camera's full resolution. Project's photos imported from iPhoto to iMovie. The first section of game photos and titles are sharp - other photos of team bonding, etc. are very pixelated. Also, the titles' motion is jerky. I have found that getting "info" of the game action photos states the file size as 17.6 MB. That size is consistant on all the sharp photos. The team bonding photos only state 117kb in size from the "info" select. Also, today I tried importing the same game photos into iMovie that were sharp - they now only read at 117kb in size.
I am guessing at this point, the small file size is the cause of the very pixelated final output of the photos in the project. The questions are...
Is the pixelating of some of the photos due to the now small file size?
Why are the photos only entering iMovie in a small file size of 117kb?

I am the one who took the picutres with the Nikon D80 10.2 MP Digital SLR, as mentioned in the original message and am fully aware of the photos' resolution.
I loaded the photos from the camera to two places - 1st place was a folder on the desktop - the 2nd was straight to iPhoto. I like iPhoto for its photo organization features. I shot jsut under two thousand photos for the season - narrowed that selection down to approx. 300 photos fo rthe entire project. The photos were shot at the camera's's max. resolution. The info of the images size is 3872 x 2592. As I had mentioned, I tried many options of imports / exports, etc. All the photos are from the same source. I created a new iMovie project - imported a batch of the photos that originally were sharp at the beginning of the project and were 17.6MB in file size. The result was the pixelated 117 kb "finished product" in the new iMovie project. I even "reimported" the same photos into the clip pane of the original iMovie project of sharp photos - they also only loaded as 117 kb sized files. All the photos in the project were initially import through the media window within iMovie, including the series of photos that were sharp in the project.
The photos can be opened with iPhoto, Photoshop, Preview, and others. All the images are razor sharp.
I can only deduce that there is a preference setting of some kind or other cause somewhere that at some point between importing the first series of photos to the middle set of photos has changed resulting in the small pixelated photos in the project.
I appreciate your imput thus far. I look forward to any other ideas you may have.

IPad 3 crashes when adding photo from gallery

Major bummer. I've had my new ipad3 for about a week. Just today when I try and add a photo to either a chat or to Facebook it crashes before it pulls up my photo gallery. This is awful. Anyone else experiencing this? What can I do besides shutting off and rebooting?

OK, it may have been an issue with the last photo that was in my camera roll. For the heckuv it I took another pic and then tried adding photos again in my apps and it worked. Thanks!

Why does photo pane in imovie reset?

Just updated iphoto and imovie. When I started moving photos from the photo pane, I discovered everytime I delete a photo from the timeline that it would reset the photo pane to photo #1. Very irritating if you happen to be working with photo #1985. It this normal? What can I do to stop it?

Yes, that sounds normal. When you delete a clip in the timeline iMovie, iMovie selects the first clip in the photos pane. (Note that when a timeline image is selected, NO photo is selected in the photos pane, so iMovie has to select something.)
There is no relationship between a deleted timeline clip and any particular photo in the photos pane. So iMovie defaults to selecting the first available photo.
If the scrolling of the photos pane is a nuisance, consider importing your photos directly from iPhoto to iMovie. Drag them from the iPhoto window directly to the timeline. Then that will not effect iMovie's photo pane selection.
I find that method preferred anyway, in many respects. You can view many more photos in iPhoto, for example.

Creating photo slideshow in iMovie 09

Hi guys,
I have been given the advice to create a photo slideshow in iMovie.
So far I have manage to sort out my photos and import them using iPhone and the Finder but am now up to the stage of putting the photos in the slide show.
There are quite a number of photos and I think by using the Ken Burns effect on every slide is a little overwhelming.
Is there any way I can use any of the other effects like just a simple fade-in?

Attaching a photo to an iMovie theme

I am creating an iMovie project where I advertise a new fitness product. I am using the Comic Book theme to make my project come alive. On the first slide, where you write your name and attach a picture, I have a specific picture on my desktop that I want to use in the box. How would I bring the photo to the slide and put it in the area made for it? Please respond as soon as possible, thank you!!!

The quick and dirty way would be to simply drag the photo from the desktop and drop it in your iMovie Project at the comic book title (or transition) in your project.
However, if you later decide to move the photo off your desktop to another location, iMovie will not know where to find it and your project will be broken.
So I suggest putting the photo into a place where you are not likely to change the location. I would import the photo into iPhoto, and then you can access the photo from the Photo Browser in iMovie and drag it into your project.
