Adding podcast from another computer; don't want to sync entire library

I have my home computer with my entire music library. There is a podcast that I listen to every day that I download as an MP3 file. However, when I'm out of town on travel or just maybe at work in the office, I want to download the files and add them to my ipod rather than wait until I'm at home.
I'm afraid to plug the ipod in to a new computer b/c I'm concerned it will sync and wipe out the entire collection. My thinking is that the ipod could be put into "disk mode" so I could just copy over these few files after I download them.
Is this accurate? Any other advice?

Bumping this up. Could anyone confirm if the ipod will start to sync if I try to add these podcasts from a laptop that does not contain my entire library.

  • I orginally sync my Ipad with another computer, now I want to sync with another computer

I originally synced my Ipad with another computer, now I want to sync with anohter computer, I don't want to erase my Ipad and sync with my Ipod.

This is an extract from one of our senior participant; hope he doesn't mind me reproducing it here
    Syncing with new computer
    1) Without connecting your iPad to your laptop, start iTunes. Click on Edit. Click on Preferences. Click on Devices. Check the box next to "Prevent your iPod etc. from automatically syncing." Click OK.
    2) Now connect your iPad to your laptop and start iTunes.
    3) When iTunes starts, right click on your iPad under Devices in the left column. Select Transfer purchases etc.
    4) After it finishes transferring all your apps to your new laptop, right click on your iPad and select Backup your iPad.
    5) After it finishes backing up your iPad, right click on your iPad and select Restore etc.
    6) After it finishes restoring, left click on your iPad , then click on the Apps tab on top, and check the box next to Sync Apps, then click on Apply below.
If everything on your iPad looks good after the sync, go back and click on Edit / Preferences / Devices and UN-check the box next to Prevent your iPod etc. The only other thing you may want to check is if your contacts, bookmarks, etc. are syncing correctly now. If not, go to the Info tab after connecting and make sure you indicate which features you want to sync with what sources.

Ok, I had a glitch, forced to restart, and lost my train of thought.
Reinstalling iTunes should fix the major issue that might have gone wrong, perhaps your explaination points will disappear and everything will be peachy again.
But if they don't, you can open the XML file in iTunes Folder using a Text edit program to see what the common pathname is to the iTunes Music folder or where your content is located.
If you moved the itunes folder, it needs to go back.
I can't  download iTunes to my Vista virtual machine to test it out right now because iTunes is down, so I can't verify the pathname, perhaps your issue and the iTunes being down are related somehow?
You don't want to import all your music again, but it's a option, but you lose all your playlists, that's what I'm trying to recover.
If oyu don't have a whole lot of playlists, then simply select all the explaimation point music and delete, select File from the menu and import your itunes folder again.

  • How do I manually transfer music with the new itunes update for Windows?  I don't want to sync my library and lose all of my music for what I have in my current library.

How do I manually transfer music with the new itunes update for Windows?  I don't want to sync my library and lose all of my music for what I have in my current library.

The same way it was done in every previous version.
Connect the device to the computer.
Right click on the device in iTunes and select Transfer Purchases.
Why would you lose any content by syncing with iTunes?
Is this not the computer that the device is normally synced with?

  • I can't manually transfer podcasts from another computer

The computer that I "sync" my ipod with is seriously on the fritz. I'm an NPR junkie, and downloaded podcasts to our other computer (we are a four computer family). These podcasts are free, so there should be no copyright issues. I have set the ipod to manually manage files, per instructions, but I still cannot copy some of the files to my ipod. The instructions are to drop and drag, but it is not working. Suggestions?

What do you mean access them?
Itunes store does not keep a copy on their server for you. You get ONE download. If you want that content on another authorized computer, then you have to put it there. It will not magically appear.

Don't expect any wonders. If you use it heavily with multiple applications running at the same time, nobody can help you. It's physics: more usage => higher energy consumption.
Here you can find some tips to reduce the battery consumption. My tip: close applications if you don't need them right now and reduce screen brightness.

Then you will need to search for a 3rd party program to transfer content

One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Other free programs are Pod Player, SharePod and Floola and iDump andiPodRobot.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

  • I am wanting to put the new firmware on to my iPhone 4 and am wondering if I do this from another computer will I loose all my data - i.e music

I am wanting to put the new firmware on to my iPhone 4 and am wondering if I do this from another computer will I loose all my data - i.e music

No you will not lose any data. However a pop up will come up telling you if you want to sync with this computer, and that if you do, that it will erase the data. Just click "No" and you can still update your phone. I've done this a few times.

  • Had 3G, moved to 3GS.  Backed up 3G and restored 3GS from backup with no problem.  When I want to add songs, I get itunes message that the new iphone is synced to another computer and now wants to erase everything.  How can I add music?

Had 3G, moved to 3GS.  Backed up 3G and restored 3GS from backup with no problem on a Dell computer.  But now when I want to add songs, I get itunes message of death that the new iphone is synced to another computer and now wants to erase everything.  How can I add music without erasing everything on my new iphone?

Yes, I was aware of this but the phrase "Any items imported from audio CDs or acquired from other sources will not copy from your device to the iTunes library." is what worries me.  Will this eliminate my Notes, Calendar Events, etc or will it apply mostly just to the music?

  • I am away and want to dounload an audio book to my ipod, is this possible from another computer?

I am away and want to download an audio book to my classic Ipod.  Is this possible from another computer?

Also the audible app is for iPhone 5 and above
According to https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/audiobooks-from-audible/id379693831?mt=8 it only requires iOS 5 or later and it is "optimized" for iPhone 5. I think it will likely work well on your iPhone 4.
Compatibility: Requires iOS 5.0 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. This app is optimized for iPhone 5.

  • Adding a blog entry from another computer

Is it possible to add a blog entry from another computer? Say all my iWeb sites are on my desktop computer and I want to add a blog entry from my laptop.

You can do this if you transfer your Domain File to the laptop. An easy way to do this is outlined in these notes.

  • Can't sync photos from ipad that I synced from another computer

Can't sync photos from ipad that I synced from another computer... I want to have them on my computer.
Why isn't there a way to do this? I don't get it. Sharing photos is such an important thing I don't understand why Apple makes it so hard to do this.
    OK here is my senario:
Recently went on a trip Hong Kong with someone... we both had iphones and took hundreds of awesome photos. Now we want to share them with eachother. Too many photos for email and I don't wish to upload to flicker/facebook/etc...
This is what I did thinking it should work...
    1) synced photos on her iphone with her computer
    2) synced photos on MY iphone with her computer
    3) put ALL the hong kong photos in one album
    4) connected my ipad to her computer... attempted to copy photos from iphoto to ipad -- NOPE, can't be done (***?!?!)
    5) so I synced the photos (and only the photos) in the hong kong album using itunes to my ipad -- this worked -- all photos now on my ipad
    6) drove home (5 hours away) and connected ipad to my computer and attempted to import with iphoto -- NOPE, can't be done (***!?!?) Won't even show the photos.
    7) itunes wants to replace all the photos on my ipad with the photos from my computer (***?!?!)
How are you suppose to do this?! How are you suppose to be able to share lots of photos with people?

Photos are not copied off the iPad via iTunes.
For photos taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites then see this page : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083
For photos that were originally synced from a computer you will need a third-party app such as Simple Transfer (which has a free lite version called Simple Photo & Video Transfer) which can copy them off via your wifi network. But as photos are 'optimised' when they are synced to the iPad, any that you then copy back to a computer may not be exactly the same as they originally were on your computer.

  • HT1349 How do I backup photo folder that was transferred to my Iphone from another computer

I had pictures tranferred from another computer to my Iphone 4s and I have done a backup to my Itunes however I can't find that folder on my MAC in Itunes. I want that picture folder in Itunes because I have purchased an Iphone 5s and want to tranfer everything to it  HELP

You can directly transfer photos and videos via WiFi between the iDevices, PCs, and Macs with an App like Photo Transfer.
    See: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/photo-transfer-app-easily/id365152940?mt=8
Or you can upload the photos and videos to the Dropbox service using the Dropbox App on the iDevice, PC, or Mac and download them to the another device using the Dropbox App on that device. By the way, once the videos are on Dropbox you can share them with others.
