Adding printer trouble
I have a Lexmark x83 multi machine. When I connect it to my computer, nothing happens. When I try to add it through System Preferences, there are no selections available. I have installed the scan/copy/fax software from the disks and those functions seem to work fine. I have downloaded drivers from Lexmark, but when I click on them in the Download Stack, it opens as a text file. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. I am very new to Mac
The latest OS X drivers for the Lexmark X83 which are available on the Lexmark site are in a package named CJMX83L1.dmg. It downloads as a .DMG file, double-click to mount, and then run the installer on the mounted disk image. It is for OS X 10.3 and following, and may/may not work in 10.5, particularly as those drivers will not be Intel-native.
I'd buy a new printer if I were you. And I'd stay far away from Lexmark. They have a... reputation. (Yes, I'm thinking of the Z23, which was, IMHO, possibly the single slowest printer ever to be inflicted upon the public, but wasn't the worst printer Lexmark ever produced, not by a long way...)

Printservicelookup does not list newly added printer in OAS R2.
Hi,
We are using OAS R2 Server and JDK 1.5. In our application we have a scenario where we will display the list of printers configured to the Server. The below is the code we are using to get the list of printers configured in the server.
Code:
AttributeSet aset = new HashAttributeSet();
PrintService[] services = PrintServiceLookup.lookupPrintServices(null,aset);
The above code works fine to display the existing printers configured in the server. But when ever we add a new printer to the server, it is not listed. We have even restarted the server and the machine after adding the printer,Still it does not display the newly added printer. Any help would be greatly appreciated?
P.S: The same code works fine in OAS R3 server, after restarting the server it displays the newly added printer.

I can't print from my 27" late 2013 iMac. I am using an epson stylus 3800 pro. I updated driver and added printer in system preferences. When i print the printer queue opens and shows the job as "stopped". Supply level shows "information is not available which maybe part of problem...thank you
The first thing you could try is a reset of the printing system. Please note that this action will remove all printers and scanners from the Printers & Scanners preference pane.
With the reset complete, unplug the Epson USB cable from the Mac for a minute and then reconnect it. This action should result in the printer being added again to the Mac automatically. If this does happen, then see if you can print again.
If the printer is not added again automatically, open Printers & Scanners and click the plus button to add the Epson. Once this is done, then see if you can print again. -
Trouble adding printer to HP ePrint Home and Biz iPhone app - can't find printer's email address
I'm trying to connect my HP Photosmart c6380 to my iPhone. I already downloaded the app and my printer is connected to my wireless network, as is my iPhone, but I can't add my printer to the app.
When I go to "Manage ePrinters" and try to add a printer with the + button I see 3 choices:
Add ePrinter from list: "No ePrinters available"
Add Manually: I can't find the printer's email address even using the instructions found at the ePrint center.
Add from WiFi Network: My printer isn't shown in this list so it does not support auto discovery.
So I'm guessing that if I could just find my printer's email address that would connect it to my iPhone for wireless printing, but I can't for the life of me find it.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
This question was solved.
View Solution.Hello amybett,
I have bad news and good news. The bad news is that your printer is not Airprint/ePrint capable. However, the good news is that with the HP ePrint Home and Biz iPhone app it does not need to be Airprint/Eprint capable, as long as it is connected to the same network as your phone.
Here are the steps you will want to take to print something:
1. Setup the app by completing the email registration and entering the code (which I believe you have).
2. Select the item you wish to print using the menu in the app (Photo Albums, Saved Files, Web Browser, etc.).
3. Once you select the item you should see the item and a large "Print" button under it.
4. If the printer you want to print to is not listed above the "Print" button, select the icon on the right (wrench/computer) and select the printer you wish to use (along with other settings).
5. Tap on the "Back" button in the top left corner, then tap "Done" (blue button in the top right corner), and then tap the "Print" button to print your item.
Let me know if you are still having trouble after following the guide above.
If I have helped in any way, just click the Kudos star on the left. Also, if your issue has been resolved, don't forget to select Accept as Solution -
Error Adding Printer Samsung CLX-3180 Series OSX 10.9
MacBook Pro Retinta Display OS X 10.9.4 8 G RAM; 2 GHz Intel Core
I am having troubling adding a printer to my recently purchased Macbook
I downloaded the drivers from the Samsung website for the CLX-3180 Series, the software installs (at least it says it did).
I then go to add printer under printers/scanners and select Samsung CLX-3180 Series from the window. Messages indicate that the software was downloaded and updated and then I get the message "An error occurred while trying to add the selected device; Unable to find an appropriate software on your system after running software update."
I then reset the printer system, update the system software, restarted the laptop and tried again; still get the same error message.
No clue what to do next.OS X Mavericks: Reset the printing system

RogerHi,
Thanks for the post.
From your description, I understand that the error code
0x00000002 is received when adding a network or local printer on terminal servers.
As we know, the
error code 0x00000002 indicates the system cannot find the file specified.
This issue may occur if one of the following factors is true:
1.
The spooler service is corrupt.
2.
The printer components are corrupt.
3.
The permissions are inappropriate.
Now I would like to confirm the following questions:
1.
Does this issue occur on all machines?
2.
Have you tried to install the printer with the elevated window? (Select

To troubleshoot this issue, let’s try the following steps.
1. Unplug the problematic printers.
2. Open Printers.
3. On the File menu, click Server Properties, and then click the Drivers tab.
4. Remove the relevant printer drivers.
After that, please try to re-plug the printers and install them again.
Does it work?
If this problem continues, let’s collect the relevant information.
1.
Open Printers.
2.
On the File menu, click Server Properties, and then click the Advanced tab.
3.
Select or clear the Log spooler error events, Log spooler warning events, and Log spooler information events check box
4.
Stop and restart the spooler service
Now please take the time to collect the relevant information on print server for further research.

I recently bought a Mac Book Pro back in May. I installed my Epson NX510 about week ago and had no trouble using it. I printed several papers with no trouble. But last night I went to print a paper and the printer wouldn't work. I spent over an hour on the phone with a representative from Epson only for them to conclude it was a Mac issue. We tried everything known to mankind, including reseting the printer, removing and re-adding the printer on the mac, "pinging" the printer to make sure it was detected by the Mac and nothing was solved. The Epson guy said that this problem is most likely caused by a corrupted file in the Mac, which could have been caused by an update of the system. I'm all out of options but I really need my printer to work. Here is the error message I receive when I try to print papers:
/Library/Printers/EPSON/InkjetPrinter2/Filter/rastertoescpII.app/Contents/MacOS/ rastertoescpII failed
Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Any help is greatly appreciated!!My name is Syd and I work for Epson America, Inc.
Since you have tried deleting and re-adding the printer, try resetting the printing system.
Here's how to reset your printing system:
1. Control-click or right-click a print queue in the "Printers" pane.
2. Choose "Reset printing system..." from the contextual menu.
3. Click "OK" in the "Are you sure..." confirmation sheet.
You can follow the troubleshooting steps in the Apple articles:

Hope this helps,

(Trouble printing) Trouble with connection between Macbook Pro and Hp Deskjet 1510.
Trouble with connection between Macbook Pro and Hp Deskjet 1510. (Nothing Prints).
I have a Macbook Pro and am having difficulty printing documents from ‘Pages' from my Hp Deskjet 1510. I have installed the necessary software for the printer and it is connected via USB. Every time I try to print the printer icon comes up as it should, 'printing' and then 'job completed' and then the icon disappears. (Nothing is printed.) I thought it might be something to do with Pages compatibility with the printer but exporting the document to Word or making it a PDF doesn’t change anything. I don’t have Microsoft Word on my computer. The scanner does work and when I printed a ‘Test Page’ that worked too.
Let me know if you know why this is happening. With these settings the network now works flawlessly, however, when i have my ethernet cable plugged in, my internet access via my airport card(on the macbook pro) is no longer available. Hoping you can tell me why this would be with this info i've provided.
Educated guess. The networking devices have priorities as to which are used. The standard order is that Ethernet has a higher priority than Airport.
While your Ethernet is unplugged it is inactive and the Mac ignores it. Once you plug it in, the Mac sees that it is active and switches traffic to that interface.
I actually take advantage of this feature at home, but configuring my Airport and Ethernet with identical fixed IP addresses. Normally I'll use Airport, but if I'm copying a huge file and I want faster performance, I'll just walk my MacBook (previously iBook, previously Powerbook) over to my Ethernet switch and plug in my MacBook. Magically, the Mac detects that the Ethernet is active and continues the file transfer uninterrupted over the faster 100baseT Ethernet connection. When the transfer is finished, or if I really need to move back to the Comfy Chair, I unplug the Ethernet cable, and all activity reverts back to the Airport, all without disrupting any existing networking connections.
You on the other hand have totally different settings for your Ethernet and your Airport, so when you switch to Ethernet, you basically loose your Airport connections.
Something you can try:
System Preferences -> Network
Gear icon on the bottom left, next to the [+] [-] icons.
Select *Set Service Order...*
Now Drag the network interfaces into the perfer priority order you want. In this case put Airport above Ethernet.
NOTE: You may want to create a new Network Location for this, instead of messing with your normal home Location (which is most likely the default Automatic. That way you have your original you can always fall back to. -
Adding PRINT Button on a List Item Page
Hi,
We have an existing custom list for our asset tracking. We are required to make the list item's page printable by adding a "PRINT" button on it. Currently, a list item's page has a "Close" button together with the following tabs such as: "New Item", "Edit Item", "Delete Item", "Manage Permissions", and "Alert Me". "Print" button should be like the "Close" button. Once the "Print" button will be click then a "Print" window will appear to select the printer to use. It will print only the list item's content and not the whole page.
Is there anyone who implemented as what describes above? Please help me how to implement this.
Thank you in advance.
JackHi,
You can refer to the following two articles to add a "print list" option to the list actions menu:

Hi Rock,
Thank you for giving those links.
I checked it and it was almost the same with Andre's posting. I did not try to install since as i understand, i need to do it in the server that hosted our portal which i'm afraid of doing it. I'm not an advanced user of sharepoint so i'm very careful of doing changes or enhancement to our portal.

Newly added printer is not showing up in printer list in Acrobat 11.0.3
Hello,
We are using Acrobat Pro 11.0.3. We recently added a new printer and that printer does not show up for one user of the machine in Acrobat. It shows up in other applications and under Printers. Other users who log into the machine can see the printer in Acrobat. I have uninstalled Acrobat, rebooted, reinstalled. I have also removed referenced to Adobe under HKEY_CURRENT_USER as well as APPDATA to no avail. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I've got an Epson R1800 and a Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5. I just tried printing an 11x17 print and it was extremely light (almost draft-like quality).
Using what version and what driver? There is a know problem with the Gutenprint drivers v5.1.3 that come pre-installed with Leopard. For Epson printers, they will default to Draft mode unless you specify a specific resolution. Later versions of the Gutenprint drivers have corrected this.
After downloading what I thought was the latest driver, I tried again, to no avail. Every time I try and load a new printer it only provides me with the Gutenprint selection.
What version of the Gutenprint drivers are you using? What settings have you tried under the Printer Features section of a print window? You need to make sure that you select the type of paper you are using to print. You should also set the *Image Type* (Output Control Common 2) for the type of job you are printing. If things are still too light, you can try increasing the Density or perhaps just the *Black Density* under Output Control Extra 1 2.
Any known work-arounds????
Have you tried the driver from Epson. It is not included with Leopard. You need to download and install it separately. Start at _http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/SupportLeopard.jsp_ to find the driver download.

[Solved] Adding Printer Marks to a Pages document in Acrobat
By "Printer Marks" I mean "bleeds" and "crop marks".
A bleed is the area of the paper that will be trimmed off after the job is printed.
Crop marks indicate the exact place where the paper is to be trimmed.
Background:
I normally do programming and web development, but, after having spent about three hours fiddling around tryng to transform our Pages-made brochure into something to send to commercial printers, I thought I'd record the process so as not to waste so much time on the next occasion we do something similar.
I thought I'd share this with other Pages users because Pages has no native support for Printer Marks and PDF files contain this as metadata, so a commercial printer will expect this to be properly set up. I believe their printers may even read the PDF metadata.
Required:
Pages and Acrobat Pro. (I have Pages '09 and Acrobat 9 Pro - updated from the one originally distributed with Adobe CS3)
Recipe:
Set up a custom page size in Pages.
e.g. For an A4 sheet size (210 x 297 mm), the Pages "Page Setup" should specify 220 x 307 mm allowing for a 5mm bleed all round.
'Print' the document to 'Adobe Acrobat PDF' (which, for me, automatically opens up Acrobat Pro 9)
In Acrobat, go to: Advanced >> Print Production >> Crop Pages
The excellent article at http://www.prepressure.com/pdf/basics/page_boxes explains the Acrobat box model and points out that PDF files will embed this important info for the printer:
The Trimbox (defining the intended dimensions of the finished page): e.g. A4
the BleedBox and the MediaBox which are e.g. 5mm bigger all round the A4 sheet and will contain the Printer Marks.
So: You only need to edit the margins of the Trimbox on "All Pages". Acrobat will add the Printer Marks outside the TrimBox.
Ensure no other margins are accidentally edited.
The MediaBox is the imported page size and is not editable in the Crop Pages dialog
The Bleedbox you wil most likely want to be the same as the Mediabox so won't need editing. Ensure it's 0,0,0,0.
The TrimBox is editable - and should be edited - here (e.g. add 5mm 'margins' all round to allow for the bleed.)
Click OK: Now if you specified margins for the CropBox …. but why would you? ... but this may be default Acrobat behaviour! .. you will have cropped out the screen area where the Printer Marks will be displayed.
Go to Advanced >> Print Production >> Add Printer Marks
I didn't check "All Marks" because I had a spurious Registration? "capstan" added in the middle of a page on one occasion. I checked Trim Marks, Bleed Marks and Color Bars. … on "All Pages".
Click OK; Command+S to save file.
Good to go!Use the Add Printer Marks tool:

Printing Troubles on Macbook Pro
A month ago, I did not know what happened to my macbook Pro printing system. Whenever I wanted to print a PDF in black color only, there would be a supporting code appeared: 91 The following ink cartridge will be used for the specified printing. "Color" Select [Color Only] or [Both Black and Color] in the Ink Cartridge Settings panel of the Utility and print again. Then I did what it asked me to do, and the printer printed my document out. However, the words from the printed document is in grey color instead of black. I thought it was a problem of my printer [Canon MG2120] but it turns out my printer functions well when connected to other's macbook or laptop. They could print normally without any troubles. I have tried to print PDF on other printers and it did not work well too. Since I can't stand the problem anymore, as I need to print lots of hand outs for classes weekly, I reinstalled my macbook pro once and try to see if everything reset to default would solve the problem. Yes, it did go back to normal for few days that I can print PDF documents normally, but troubles start again. I am wondering what happened to my macbook pro.

Adding print slide or window button
I am trying to print the quiz results page and the only thing I can find is to add a smart shape button and change the action to "execute_JavaScript". In the script_window i'm simply adding one line of code "window.print()". The problem I'm running into is when I publish my project the slide containing the print button shows up completely blank. Any idea whay I am doing wrong here? I tried adding a widget as well, but my system does not have a print widget available.
Where do you see the target='_top"? I went looking for the original button from my original post which was in the http://web.me.com/toad.hall/HelperSite//Page1_files/widget3markup.html page via the Activity window and view source and this is what the code of that widget page is:
<xmp>
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
<html><head><meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" /><title></title></head><body><form>
<input type=button value="Close Window" onClick="javascript:window.close();">
</form> </body></html>
</xmp> (Ignore the <xmp></xmp> tags when using)
I don't see the target='_top" in there. What am I missing? This was my first post: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=9134142#9134142.

Adding printer marks the quick way
Is my workflow sound?
I print a magazine that has many many ads submitted by clients via pdf and the ads invariably fail to contain printer marks, have no bleed set and are of improper page size. The ads are big enough to cover the proper page size and extend past the bleed but in order to add printer marks I have to set the art box, trim box, crop box and bleed box in Acrobat and then afterwards I can add printer marks. This is time consuming when you are dealing with over 300 ads and you have a deadline.
So, I just place and center the pdf in an empty InDesign document that has the proper page size and the proper bleed and just export it back to PDF using a preset that include printer marks. Easy Peasy.
My question is should I set Output (in the Export to PDF dialog box) to "No Color Conversion" since they are already cmyk pdfs? If I leave it to "Convert to Destination (Preserve Numbers) - which is my default - I assume that is fine too since the incoming ads are already separated for US Web Coated SWOP 2 and that is my default cmyk working space. I shouldn't have to worry about color changes either way correct?
I also set compression to none in the Export to PDF dialog box since the ad was already exported to pdf once already.
Thoughts?
Thanks.
-MarkAre all of these ads supposed to be full page w/ bleed? I've never understood why anyone would want marks or bleeds on anything that wasn't.
In any case, I can't see that adding marks to one of these ads before you place it is of much use to you. If you are presuming the centering when you add the marks, just presume that when you place the ad in the magazine (but perhaps I've misunderstood and that's what you are doing). There's no benefit to any intermediate addition of fictitious marks.
I would export the magazine using whatever your normal settings are. Preserve numbers is safe, it won't make rich black type, but colors will shift if the wrong space was used to create the ad. No conversion is probably not a good idea on the off chance that there are spot or RGB colors included -- you never know...
I also would use the refular compression settings you normally use. I've been told that ID "internalizes" placed PDF and handles the compression on the images just as if they were placed directly. It won't compress them more unless the original settings were higher than the ones you use.
