Adding quicktime movies

I have added quicktime movies to my presentation and when i present they don't work. I have tried various methods of adding them (dragging, using media etc), they work if i double click them in the navigator view and they work on keynote 06 just not when actually presenting, i get a blank screen with the sound.

From your description you are having the same problem as many with a blank screen on playback of movies. As documented this can be fixed by going to Preferences:Slideshow and ticking the 'Allow Expose, Dashboard and others to use the screen' check box.
As an aside .mov files are the best format for keynote. Keynote seems to create a .mov envelope for files that aren't .mov files when you insert the movie file- you can examine this behavior by right/control clicking on a keynote file and select 'View Package Contents...'. The source file as well as a .mov file will be amongst the files. It's a good way to recover original media files from keynote files if you loose them- but remember to option drag them out or you'll lose them from the presentation.

  • Quicktime movies corrupted by adding metadata in Adobe CS3

Recently I happened to switch from using Adobe CS2 to CS3 (don't ask me why, I know they're old versions).  I use Adobe Bridge to manage/organize my digital photos and movie files from my digital camera.  In CS2, whenever I attempted to select multiple files to annotate with metadata such as description, location, etc., the program would warn me that "some files" in the selection (i.e., the Quicktime .MOV files) could not contain metadata.  So I would click OK, continue to annotate the batch, and Bridge would simply exclude the .MOV files and only add the metadata to the photos.  When I started using Bridge CS3, I noticed that the warning dialogue box no longer came up.  At first I was pleased, and thought, Great, now it's OK to add metadata to my movies as well!  But not long after, I started noticing a problem where some of my .MOV files were no longer playable, even though they had been fine immediately after download.  Since I only add metadata to about a quarter of my files, it took me a while to see the pattern:  Adding metadata to the .MOV files does in fact corrupt them and make them unplayable in Quicktime.  CS3 was not doing me any favors by suppressing the old warning!  I knew the movies were fine since I had already played them before, but the moment they were assigned metadata, Quicktime refused to recognize the files.
Now that I know the problem I am very vigilant about not adding metadata to movies anymore, of course, but I need to salvage the already corrupted movies, since some of them are precious to me, such as my daughter's birthday videos.  I have tried various workarounds such as attempting to convert them to another format with video conversion software, but the conversion software also can't recognize the files now.  The best luck I have had is that I can still play the movies using a program called VLC, so I know the essential data is not ruined, it's all still there.  And when I have tried a couple of diagnostic tools, they are able to extract the images and recognize the file -- but not able to restore it to its original form.  I have also tried deleting the metadata, in Bridge, but that doesn't help.  Does anyone know of a method or a program that can help me restore these as Quicktime files?  It appears that there are services out there that will charge a lot of money to repair corrupted files, but I really think this should not be so hard or expensive.  The integrity of the movies is still there, everything is intact, there's just been a line of code inserted somewhere that shouldn't be there I suppose.  I wish I could get in there and delete it myself.  It's great that VLC has no problem playing them, but as long as these are unusuable as Quicktime files, I can't send them to my family, upload them to video-sharing sites, etc.
    Thanks, anyone, for your help.

I don't know how to fix what was already modified, but in Premiere Preferences, there is a box that is checked by default, something about "Write XMP data" or similar, you'll want to uncheck that.

  • Adding a .smi File to a .mov quicktime movie

I have an unsubbed Quicktime movie and both .smi and .srt files containing subs for the movie. How can I attach the subs in the .smi or .srt files to the .mov file? I also have the video in .mkv format, and used the application SmartConverter to change it into a quicktime movie. Is there a way to add the .smi or .srt file to the .mkv file then convert it into a quicktime movie or something?

    Hi,
There is also a Myth buster from Paul Randal which says you do not need to keep tempdb data files equal to processor core
Myth-Tempdb data file should always have one data file per processor core
But if you read Microsoft blogs it would say you should have tempdb files  as per cores.
    Tempdb best prctices
It all boils down to fact that are you facing issue with Tempdb. Does recommendation that tempdb data file equal to logical core always holds true, no it does not always that is what Paul Randal tried to show in his Article. You start with two data files
on different drive and monitor performance of Tempdb if you see PFA,GAM SGAM contention adding a data file would help. These recommendations generally hold true for huge OLTP environment where MS tested various features and your environment might not be same
as the one tested. Its a Good practice not an ideal. Ideal is one that suits your requirement and that would require a testing.

  • Adding audio to a Quicktime movie (after the fact)

It's been so long since I've done this, can't remember how. And for some reason my Quicktime Player (Pro) help is completely zats, won't work.
Could someone remind me the 1,2,3 to add an audio track to a Quicktime movie? I'm actually wanting to strip the existing audio, and replace it with an audio done in Logic - much lower bitrate, but still very good quality.
    All ears,
    Ben

    No problem.
On the Windows side of things, my help isn't working well either at the moment. Getting a bunch of page not found errors. I think the furniture might have been moved round on the Apple Website, and someone forgot to warn the QuickTime help.
(I'm not entirely sure how the QuickTime help works on the Mac side of things, so I'm not sure how relevant that is to your troubles, though ... can anyone else get their QuickTime help to work at the moment?)

  • Can't use HDV quicktime .mov files (captured in Final Cut Pro) on a mac at work) on my PC at home

    Hiya everyone!
I've taken some work home from the macs at work, but can't open it on my PC.
Footage was captured in FCP on a mac at work, HDV quicktime .mov, but won't open in the newest quicktime, windows media player and more importantly in Adobe After Effects CS3 or Premiere Pro CS3 on my PC at home.
When I try opening the files in quicktime, the screen is white, but the audio plays. They don't open in windows media player at all. When I try to import them into Premiere, I get a message reading, "Error Message, Codec missing or unavailable". But they import into After Effects, except they only play as white...
I've tried converting them into almost everything, and they often play (as .avi for example in the newest QT, WMP, Adobe Premiere and AE), but they increase A LOT in size and decrease A LOT in quality.
The HDV files that won't open read as:
    Source: *.mov
    Format: HDV 1080i50, 1920 x 1080, Millions 16-bit Integer (Little Endian), 48.000 kHz
    Movie FPS: 25.00
    Playing FPS: (Available when playing)
    Data Size: 69.53 MB
    Data Rate: 28.10 mbits/sec
    Current time: 00:00:01.64
    Duration: 00:00:20.76
    Normal size: 1920 x 1080
    Current size: 1920 x 1080
Anything smaller than 1920 x 1080 plays fine.
I've been all through google, and the adobe and apple sites, and the best I could find is here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=7753066#7753066
    and
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8159317&#8159317
My problem is almost identical to these 2...
No one in the whole world seems to have an answer...
Does anyone here know how I can use the HDV files from the work macs on my PC at home?
    -Kaiwin

As a rule of thumb, any CoDec associated with the Apple Pro applications is generally not available on Windows. This also includes their flavor of HDV. The only exception at this point is ProRes, for which they added a player component recently. So therefore this would have to be what you use for capture/ export from FCP. Apart from that you can of course always buy a capture card from Blackmagic or AJA with the benefit of the CoDecs being available cross-platform... Or you use a commercial software-only CoDec like Cineform.

  • Need to export Movie to Quicktime Movie w/ similar file size and quality.

Let me preface in that I am not in the video editing profession. Many times I have exported my work to the professionals. I'm sure knowing what you're doing is half of the battle. Here is my dilemma. First, I'm using Quicktime pro just to add a text track to the movie. I  then save the file as what Quicktime pro calls Movie .mov. This looks good and has the quality of the original .mov and the small data size. However, no other player than quicktime will recognize the text track. I then tried exporting from Movie to quicktime movie format (still .mov, can anyone explain the difference of the two .mov types???), but I find that the image quality is poor. Yet, in the quicktime format other players (except windows media player) recognize the text track. By poor quality I mean that I think what I have is the blocking effect. I assume that this is due to the bitrate being to low. Again, I would like to keep the file size low and managable for data storage and downloading purposes. I was hoping that in the end all video players would be able to have no issues.
My current file sized are all less than 1MB and are of good quality.
Just adding a small test track the Movie .mov is still less than 1MB
The size of the image is 512x512
I should also say that I'm a PC user with a quicktime pro windows version. I'm sure that doesn't help me one bit!! However, I believe my issues are more with the fact that I'm not experienced in compressing files and knowing exactly the right settings.
Here is what I've tried thus far. Movie to quicktime movie
    H264 codec
Current for fps (Which is in the original is 8fps)
    Key frames automatic
    frame reordering checked
I've tried Automatic data rate and setting the bit rate, even at 2000kbps (the quality is low). My original movie with the highest kbps is only 1151kbps and has no artifacts
    encoding Best quality multi-pass
    custom size 512x512
    deinterlace checked

am i correct that this 'my photo stream' process is not removing any image data?
Yes,  as long as you have iPhoto's iCloud preference pane configures as follows:
You're be getting the full image file, pixel dimensions, etc. which is essentially a bit by bit copy of the photo on the Phone.
When you add tags and other metadata and export the file out of iPhoto as a jpeg with the checkboxes selected to include that metadata there will be some image compression.  However, if one chooses High or even Medium JPEG Quality one will be hard pressed to detect any image degradation unless printing very, large prints or otherwise displaying the image at a very, large size.
I ran a test on a 1.4 MB photo from my iPhone  and compared the original to two exports, one at High and the other at Medium JPEG Quality and got these results:

  • Export settings for quicktime movie to use in DVD Studio Pro

    The workflow:
I created a movie and did extensive sound adjustments in iMovie and a few video edits, and exported it to a quicktime format:
    compression H.264
    Quality: High
    Frame reordering: yes
    Encoding mode: multi-pass
    Dimensions: 1280x720
Since then I upgraded to FCS, and tried to create a DVD with DVD SP and import the movie, and I get this error:
    Import error:
One or more files failed to import. Common reasons for this are that they do not match the current project's video standard or their file format is not supported.
I'm fairly sure I have matching video standard...and the file format has always been supported before.
I imported the quicktime (.mov) file to FCP and added some edits, recreated the chapter markers, and early on there was a pop-up that said my movie format did not match the project settings, so I checked the "okay" to adjust the video file to match.
When I finished, I exported the file from FCP to a quicktime movie with the "current settings" that have always worked with DVD Studio Pro before, and I'm getting the same error.
I don't know where the problem is.  Both the original movie I created in iMovie and the movie I recreated in FCS will import to iDVD.  I wanted the better quality production from DVDSP....
I no longer have the iMovie project file.  (I thot I was done.)  I do  have the original footage, but I'm already three days in and hoping to  avoid starting over.
I would sure appreciate any help!
    Thanks!

The specifications you listed are the problem.
I can't comment on iMovie -don't use it personally.
From FCP, you would export a self contained movie using the current Timeline settings (not H.264 ever)
Bring that file into Compressor and apply one of the time based DVD presets that the running time of your movie fits into. This will produce a MPEG 2 video file and an AC3 audio file. Bring both into DVDSP and author.
A DVD video is always standard def 720x480 (NTSC) or 720x576 (PAL).
Converting the output from FCP to H.264 is adding an unneeded compression stage that will compromize quality -because DVD assets are always MPEG 2 / AC3. Even if DVDSP accepts that H.264 file, it gets transcoded again using DVDSP's own compression system.
All of this is covered in the DVDSP user manual. Take the time to read it. DVD authoring is complicated if you just jump in and start poking around, simple if you take the time to understand the basics.

  • No more alpha in exported QuickTime movie from Keynote '09

    Hello
In Keynote '08, I create a slide with no background (None).
I add some text with some fancy text IN and OUT features.
I export using the Animation codec and the transparency option.
When I reimport the movie in another Keynote '08 file, it inherits the transparency of the imported file and thus everything is perfectly blended.
In Keynote '09 it is not possible anymore.
Even if I import an exported QuickTime movie from Motion with a transparent background, it is not possible to have a perfect blend, all layers are opaque.
Last but not the least, adding transparent files on top of each other in QuickTime player does not preserve transparency despite the fact that the Animation + transparency features are added in the files.
    Thank you in advance.

Hey Gary - first off, thanks for your reply! I am currently forcing spotlight to re-index to see if that might help me out. After that I will try your suggestion and run a system software check.
I need a ProRes export as this is going to be combined with IMAG footage from a live presentation as well as additional video from an Arri Alexa. I want to preserve as much quality as possible so that there isn't a discrepancy in the final edit. Originally, I was rendering a small test to the desktop to gauge output quality of animations etc. I did go ahead and re-export a second time to an external drive, but it doesn't seem to matter as Keynote appears to initially render everything to the startup drive no matter what. The second export still ate about 15 gigs from my startup disk and I am unable to find any sort of temp files anywhere!
I am showing all files in Finder and searching around the ~/private/tmp folders to no avail. In the image below there appears to be a discrepancy in the size being reported by finder and the size I'm seeing listed in terminal...

  • "Include" options when doing an export to QuickTime Movie in FCE 4?

I've been doing a ton of testing on using keyframe motion with stills (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1646571&tstart=0) so I'm not sure if I've made up what I think happened, or if it's a different option that I'm not seeing.
When I added some text to one of my tests, I did an File > Export > QuickTime Movie. Then under the Save As... dialog box, the Include menu had a whole bunch of options that I had never seen before, with the first few of them starting with the "#" sign, if I'm not mistaken.
Normally I only see "Audio and Video", "Audio Only" and "Video Only". Did I dream this scenario where I thought I saw a whole long list of things in there that, if I remember right, some of them appeared to be like font names? Maybe it was a different app. Like I said, I've been doing a ton of testing. Reason I ask is because whatever it was, in whatever app it was, that was the only test where I was able to produce an output file that does what I want.
    Thanks.

    don't need this one answered.

  • QuickTime movies cannot display properly, refresh doesn't work propely for html files on hard disk, opening a new tab doesn't work

    Hi!
I have tried Firefox V4 (but have since reused V3.6.16). The following problems were found:
    a. Cannot display the controls used for QuickTime movies.
    b. The refresh button doesn't function at all if the html files reside on the hard disk. I do this because I need to test the appearance of the web page before uploading to the server.
This problem also exists for v3.6.14 to v3.6.16
    c. When opening a new tab, it doesn't work. Instead, it will open another instance of the browser. By right, it has to open the web page on the same instance of the browser.
    This is my feedback.
    Thanks!!!!! :)

I had some advice to try recording QT audio and adding to the slide.  Now, when recording to Quicktime, it does embed it, but in recording the presentation, it either doubles up the audio giving a strange echo or does the same thing if you ever edit the presentation.
The problem Keynote has is that the sound and image content are not locked together which causes out of sync errors. This is why many users choose video editing applications when using sound in the presentations, as they have both image and audio tracks to sync sound properly together.
Start a new presentation to remove the previous sound recording, Keynote is holding onto the other sound files.
Add the graphic items to each slide and one sound file to each slide for the voice over
1 - In Inspector > Transitions;  use start transitions automatically and set each transitions delay to the duration of the individual sound file.
2 - In QT export, set Fixed Timing and delete the value in the duration box, QT will then use the custom timings for each individual slide.
This procedure does work exactly as needed, Iv used this for nearly 6 years using 4 different versions of Keynote.

  • Embedded QuickTime movie malfuncioning

I'm using Keynote '08 (vers 4.04) under Tiger.
One of the slides in my Keynote presentation is a short QuickTime clip with audio. Everything works perfectly when I play the Keynote presentation.
However, after adding a narration to the presentation and exporting the presentation as a QuickTime file, the short clip malfunctions. The clip's audio starts, but the movie itself only starts rolling towards the end of the short clip.
Any clues what could be causing this please?
    Thanks

Mine is not a true test as I am using Keynote '09 with Mac OS X 10.5.8, but just did a test and the slide that had both a Quicktime movie and a narration did export but the movie did not start until everything that I said in the narration had finished. So when I was trying to talk over the movie, it did not export that way.
One workaround for you would be to record the narration in Keynote and save, then right click the file in the Finder and Show Package Contents (if you don't see this option see below how to find the file) and look for the file called narrationTrack1.m4a and drag it to the desktop.
Then go back to your Keynote file and Export, but uncheck the box that says to include the Recorded Audio. Then add the Quicktime movie to iMovie and then add the audio file to get the narration with it. Then export the whole thing from iMovie.
Definitely not the ideal workaround, but hopefully it will work for you.
If you don't have the option to Show Package Content, follow these steps
Go to the Finder and find your Keynote file and make sure that it has the .key extension on it. If it doesn't, click it and command i to view info and uncheck the box that says Hide Extension.
Delete the .key and change to .zip and then click the use .zip in the dialog box that comes up
Double click the new .zip file and it will change it to a folder
Open the folder and drag out the audio file
Close the folder and add .key to the end of the name and click Add in the dialog box (this will change it back to a Keynote file)

  • Problem with split screen quicktime movie to iDVD

hey folks, i've just spent two 6-hour renderings for naught and have the following problem:
    QT Pro 6.5.2
    iDVD 5
    OS 10.3.9
I pulled together a Quicktime movie consisting of talking head interview, then split screen (two clips simultaneously), back to talking head, then split screen again, etc etc.
the first time i rendered the composite Quicktime movie to iDVD, my split screen background was a sickly lime green color. blech
so, i added a black slide in TIFF format ONLY to the split screen video portions. played around with the Layers property until my split screen video clips were in front of the black background. recut and pasted my full Quicktime movie again.
However, upon my second iDVD rendering, a funny thing ocurred. Now, when the DVD gets to a split screen portion, the VERY LAST FRAME OF THE PREVIOUS TALKING HEAD CLIP freezes, and appears in the background of my split screen clips.
    What gives?
I plan to do some testing, but sure would like to shortcut this problem, it's eating away at my weekend and i need to get this project done.
thanks for any insight you can give

  • Quicktime moves from FCP

Ok - I'm officially out of my depth.
After 6 months editing a lorryload of 4x3 miniDV interviews I finally got sign-off this morning.
Client wants a quick DVD to watch over Chritmas, so I Export Quicktime movies (normal, no conversion) of all 10 timelines, simply adding .mov on the end.
I make a 4x3 DVD project in iDVD, and drop in the QT moves.
All fine and dandy, but one, just ONE of these movies insists in playing all squeezed out in 16x9.
The odd thing is that this is the second time I've done this. Last week I went through the same process, and the same clip was playing out in 16x9.
These are all new clips (I've changed the edit since then), and it's a brand new iDVD project.
    But same result.
I've checked the rogue clip in QT and iTunes, and it plays just the same as all the others.
So I tried MPEGStreamclip - and noticed some full screen red rogue frames, which suggested a problem.
I checked the other clips - they all have the red rogue frames - even though they behave normally in iDVD.
    What might be causing this?
I'm tried re-Exporting all the clips as 100% Quicktime movies from Streamclip.
The files were all much bigger then the originals. How can that be happening?
But when I reload them in Streamclip they still have the red flashes.
I've tried doing a SaveAs from Quicktime - still red flashes.
Even MPE4 versions - red flashes - and these show up in iDVD too.
Any advice gratefully received. I'm running out of time here
    Thanks
    Tom

I forget to mention that I made the original movies on a MacBook Pro running Tiger and QT 7.6.4, but was trying to make the iDVD on a new machine running Snow Leopard and QT10 - because it has a much faster burner and I'm in a hurry!
I'm now trying to make the iDVD on the older machine and there is no sign of the red flashes - plus that rogue movies plays normally.
    Phew... BUT
Someone else is making the real, proper DVD - what will happen when he tried to pick up these quicktime movies on and AVID (pre version 5)?
    Thanks
    Tom

  • Adding a movie in iWeb using a movie template.

I wanted to add a small QuickTime movie to my web site.
I added a movie template page to the site and then dropped the movie to the box. In iWeb, I am able to click on the play button and the movie plays just fine. But when I publish the site and upload it, where the movie should be is just a Q for QuickTime.
So then I made a plain box with the enable as a hyperlink and a link to the movie. Just like I would to do a pdf file.
My question is how do I get the movie page to work? It looks better with the movie page.

you cant make changes to released template, if you do also, new changes wont be shown
