Adding second monitor to iMac and screen resolution

I want to get the converter to plug my 17 inch IBM SVGA monitor into my iMac. The IBM monitor is quite old (one of the first 17 inch IBM color monitors I think). I understand what converted to buy so I can plug it into to iMac. I have no idea what resolution is possible on the IBM. Is this a concern???
I probably will upgrade to a current flat screen for the second monitor later but would really like to try this and see if 2 monitors at home is useful or not.
Thanks!

I assume (based on the computer information attached) that your imac is less than one year old? Silver color? If so, you need to find out what connection this other monitor has. Could be one of two - VGA or DVI. If you have a cable for this other monitor already bring it with you to the store if possible (not ordering of the internet). Your imac can produce a variety of resolutions so I would not be concerned about that especially with a 17" monitor.
Could be two possible connectors - mini dvi to vga (probably based on the info you provided) http://store.apple.com/us/product/M9320G/A
Or mini dvi to dvi http://store.apple.com/us/product/M9321G/B

I heard back from Nike+ support and they said that there will be newer pics soon and it also appears that this corrected itself for my runs, but not the user pic, I only get girly options, I wouldn't mind a picture of a guy on 'ROIDS!!! Just kidding, but something less feminine or cartoon like, I'm trying to be serious about this and the site should reflect that.

  • Second Monitor with nVidia and Openbox

I am going to be picking up a second monitor this afternoon, and I am wondering how easy it will be to set up. Can I just run the nVidia xorg configure command and will that do most of it for me? I also noticed there are different methods of using 2 monitors. Is twinview the best or should I look at something else?

GUI works fine and i always run nvidia-settings as root.
    su -c 'nvidia-settings'
    or just apply a alias
    alias nvidia-settings='su -c 'nvidia-settings''
    Good Luck!

  • Upgraded to Windows 10 and now I can't see my two HP w1907 monitors or change the screen resolution

I just upgraded my computer from Windows 7 Professional to Windows 10 Professional. Before the upgrade, I had two monitors. Since the upgrade completed, I no longer have two monitors. I need to figure out how to get two monitors back, as well as how to get the correct drivers for my two HP w1907 monitors installed, so that my system recognizes that I have two monitors. I also need to be able to reset the screen resolution to what I had before (in Windows 7).

  • Second monitor on iMac not working with Lion

I have a mid-2011 Thunderbolt 21.5" iMac. A secondary monitor is connected to the iMac with a Mini DisplayPort-to-HDMI cable (a single cable, not an adaptor and cable).
When I was running Snow Leopard, the monitor worked just fine. After upgrading to Lion, the second monitor just has a black screen, and quickly goes into power save mode.
I have already tried resetting the NVRAM (as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379) and resetting the SMC (as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964).
Has anyone seen this problem? Any other suggestions for solutions?

same here, just performed the upgrade to Lion and my secondary Samsung screen (direct HDMI cable) do not work anymore (I have a mid 2011 iMac 21.5'').
I have tried the tricks mentioned on the following discussion:
No Signal on HDMI TV After Lion Upgrade
    ie open terminal
    cd /System/Library/Displays/Overrides/DisplayVendorID-410c/
    sudo mv DisplayProductID-0  DisplayProductID-0.old
    Reboot after entering the commands
But it is not working, the developper clearly messed up the video output in Lion OS!!!
Let me know if you have a solution, I am reduced  to single screen use in the meantime... and regret the upgrade...
    Thanks

  • Second monitor on extended mode, independant resolutions possible?

i wanted to add a 19 inch monitor to my 20inch imac and use it as extended desktop mode, to have extra screen space. The resolution of this monitor is 1400x900.
I was wondering if anyone knew if the imacs display will be reduced to match the 900 of vertical lines of the 19 inch monitor, or can i run the extra monitor on 1400x900 and keep the 1680x1050 on the imac, while still in extended desktop mode?
thanks a lot for any help!
    dan

You're well within the limits. The external display will run at resolutions up to 1920x1200 if you're using DVI (digital), or up to 2048x1536 if you're using VGA (analog).

  • 24"iMAC optimal screen resolution for photo processing

I have a 24" iMAC (matte) and do mostly photo editing. What is the optimal screen resolution for photo processing work?
    thanks
    a/d/

All Screens are 72 dpi (dots per inch- in reference to pixels) no matter what screen resolution you use. The only difference the screen resolution will make is the size of the photo when you are viewing. Higher resolution means the picture will take up less space in you work area, but you will most likely have to zoom in to edit finer areas. Lower resolution will cause the picture you are editing to take up more of your work space and to see multiple photos side by side you will have to zoom out of fron the photos. So, really the choice is up to you.
When creating the original document, this is where you need to monitor the dpi. The higher the dpi, the clearer your photo will look in print. A high dpi also means more disk space is being taken up by the photo. Generally a good dpi for print is 300 dpi. Anything that is only purposed for a screen based project (i.e. internet logos) should be saved at 72 dpi. Why use disk space and cause your pages to take longer load if no one will be able to tell the difference on screen between 72 and 300 dpi?
    Hope this helps!

  • Adding 2nd Monitor - HP3065....resolution issue

    Hi,
I just received my new 27" iMac with the upgraded video card.  I hooked up my 30" HP 3065 monitor using the Apple Displayport to DVI adaptor.  I am only getting roughly 1280x900 resolution on the HP monitor.  I am very suprised if this new video card would not drive a second 30" monitor at a much better resolution.  I think I have seen posts regarding a dual dvi adaptor, but I can't seem to find it again.  Thanks for the assitance.
    Bill

ok so after a little more digging I found that it boils down to KMS, and since i have a nvidia card the nouveau driver. I just switched it to early start mode by putting it in MODULES="" in the mkinitcpio.conf.
The early start works and I have a nice resolution right from the start, but it obviously doesnt solve the initial problem of it moving to the wrong monitor.
might the "Force Modes" option be a possibility here?

  • Added second monitor computer won't wake up

I have reviewed several support threads on the subject of a 2008 Mac Pro not waking up after it goes to sleep.  I have a 2008 mac pro that was working flawlessly with a 26 inch asus monitor.  My bluetooth mouse and keyboard would wake it up instantly.  I decided to add a second monitor, a 27 inch planar.
I had the mac set up to save power and after just five minutes of non-use it would go to sleep.  My wife asked me if I would keep it on longer so she could watch the pictures that show up through the screen saver so I set it to 15 minutes and then it goes to sleep.  Now though, if it goes to sleep it won't wake up and remote connections from an imac fail to awaken it as well.  I am forced to hold down the power button to shut it down.  I have tried the startup where I hold down command option p r but I can't get it to sound a second chime whether I start after the first chime or before the gray screen appears.  After trying this every other restart does not work, the fans turn on but nothing else happens.  It is quite odd.  I am at my witts end.  I suppose the proper course of action is to disconnect the second monitor and see if it wakes up, but I am hoping before I do that that someone might weigh in on the issue and solve it.  I guess I should also try a usb keyboard as well.  Thanks in advance for reading this and I hope you can help me out with this.  John

Ok, here is where I am at.  I reseated the two dimms.  They are now showing up.  I still can't get a PRAM reset to work and I have not obtained a USB keyboard yet.  I reset the PRAM on my imac with a bluetooth keyboard and it worked so I believe I am doing it properly.   I reset smc via following directions on an Apple page.  I am hooking up the second monitor now and will see how it goes. I will keep you posted.  Thank you.

  • How to use Macbook Pro 17" as a second monitor for iMac?

I have a new iMac with Lightning connector and USB. And I have a Macbook Pro 17" with Firewire and USB. Is there a way to connect the Macbook Pro to the iMac and make it into a second monitor for my iMac?

  • Trouble with iMac G5 screen resolution

My wife has an iMac G5, running Snow Leopard; ATI Radeon HD 4670 video.
She was downloading pictures from her Nikon D60 and looked at one of the pictures, when suddenly the screen resolution changed.
I restored the default .icc profile from Time Machine from about a month ago (although it appeared to already be using the factory default).
Screen resolution won't work under any of the options shown under System Preferences / Displays. Any option leaves the screen too large (requiring scrolling to see the menus and the dock at the bottom) or else has strange characters / colors / boxes on part of the screen.
After restoring the .icc profile, I rebooted in Safe Mode (held down shift key while booting) and the display looks fine in 2560 x 1440.
When I reboot and don't go into Safe Mode, the display isn't right even though it's still in 2560 x 1440.
Since it works in safe mode, seems like it can't be hardware.
Any ideas what to do or try?
    Thanks.
    Keith

Sounds like maybe the Display is Zoomed in?
Try holding the ⌃ (control) key and scrolling down or alternately use the ⌥ ⌘ - (alt command minus) key command and see if that doesn't return to normal view?
The mouse scrolling feature can be disabled in the Mouse Preference and the key command feature can be disabled in the Universal Access Preference.

  • Tiger update 2008-004 screwed up iMac G5 screen resolution/desktop

I have an iMac G5. Installed the Tiger 2008-004 update (and Safari update). When the iMac boots up the screen resolution/desktop gets enlarged just as the spotlight icon appears. As I move the mouse around the screen the desktop moves with it. The desktop is about 5%-10% larger than the standard size. Tried display preferences with no effect. Zapped PRAM. Re-installed updates individually, nothing works.Help!

    Hi,
You probably have 'Zoom' enabled in the Universal Access preferences. Have a play around in there to find the setting to turn it off (sorry for the vague directions but I'm on a Linux machine at the moment )

  • Adding second monitor to HP Beats Special Edition 23-n010xt All-in-One with HDMI Cable

Trying to add a second monitor to all-in-one using HDMI cable.  All-in-one is HP Beats Special 23-n010xt, second monitor is Samsung SyncMaster S24B300, Op Sys is Windows 8.1.  Both are connected with HDMI cable, but Windows is not detecting second monitor.  Have also tried a new cable, no success.  Any suggestions?  Thanks in advance.

Here are the specs for your HP Beats Special Edition 23-n010xt All-in-One CTO Desktop Computer. Based on the specs, this model doesn't have a video output of any kind. The HDMI port on the side is strictly an INPUT.
The HDMI input allows you to use your computer screen with a game console or video player. To connect your computer to an external display, you will need to purchase a USB-to-video adapter such as the EVGA UV Plus+ UV39 or many other adapters on the market.

  • Xorg 1.6, nvidia and screen resolutions

I just upgraded to xorg 1.6 from testing, including the nvidia drivers and kernel from testing.  Everything is working great (and it fixed the libxi keyboard layout problems I was having), except that I can no longer select the screen resolution I want from the nvidia-settings application.  The set of resolutions is very limited and I'm getting a horizontal stretch due to an incorrect aspect ratio.
I've tried manually adjusting the xorg.conf file after saving it in nvidia-settings, but it makes a mess of the file and I couldn't get it working.  Does anybody know how to add screen resolutions into the nvidia-settings application?
    Thank you!
    Darin

Happened to me with most recent 1.5 update, I downgraded back to previous one to get working again. And now same happened with 1.6, this time I downgrade again without any further testing until someone else gets it solved

  • Adding 2 monitors to IMac

Hey Gang. Is it possible to attach two extra monitors to the IMac 17 in 2G?

Hey Gang. Is it possible to attach two extra monitors
to the IMac 17 in 2G?
Your iMac has the ability to send video to one external monitor. If you prefer 2 external monitors (for three total- 1 iMac and two external), you need another video card.
You'll need another video card an an external breakout box:
