Adding shadows to an inserted graphic figure

     When you have inserted a graphic figure (pdf format) into Pages text, you
can apply a nice shadow effect to it with the graphic portion of the
Inspector. However, sometimes it applies the shadow to a frame about the
figure and other times to each element within the figure.
     Both effects are very nice but I have no control over which the Inspector chooses.
Does anyone know how to make this choice?

As far as I know, if you select a single object before applying shadow, only this objet would get a shadow.
If you select several objects, each of them will be shadowed.

  • Copy and Paste InDesigne gives inserted graphic, not object!? Bug or "feature"?

    When I copy and paste any object in Indesign (Vectorgraphics, Rectangle, Textarea, everything) it isn't pasted as another object, it's paster as an inserted Graphic. I use Creative Cloud, updating automatically. Is this a new "feature" or a bug? Copying and pasting an Object -> i want an object again (editable and with the same color etc) and not an inserted graphic. Can I change any settings for that or something? never had this problem before!
    I would really appreciate your help as it's really uncomfortable in the workflow even though i could understand it would increase performance and reduce data volume.

    I have problem like this with indesign cs6 and windows 7, when i copy and paste frames it paste as there is graphic inside with a content grabner, my work around is from windows start>all program >go to indesign and run as administrator. Hope this may help.

  • Delete inserted graphic

    Dear Sirs,
    How I can delete a inserted graphic? Also I would like to know how I can modify the position of image (with a char position), actually I think that need delete and insert in new position, but I believe that exists other method for this.
    Thanks in advance.
    - Marcos

    Robin, thanks for looking this.
    The major problem is the "undo" who save the deleting action, if "undo" is called, is transparent for user the two actions (deleting and inserting) rather than only one (change position). The solution that I thought was delete the last operation, calling the popUndo, but not worked because the deleted action is the former, in this case the operation of the inserting image, rather than operation of delete.
    var pos: int = imagesLeaf[i].getAbsoluteStart();
    var start: int = getEditManager().absoluteStart;
    getEditManager().setSelection(pos, pos);
    getEditManager().deleteNext();
    getEditManager().setSelection(start, start);
    getUndoManager().popUndo();
    Some idea?
    Thanks in advance,

  • Adding Shadows to Graphics

    Hi,
    I am a newbie Photoshop Elements 5 user as of Christmas...great present. I would like to add backgound shadows to the graphics and clip art that I use in PowerPoint. I can't figure out how to add background shadowing. Can PSE5 do that? If so, how?
    Thanks,
    RickB

    Rick,
    You can add shadows in both PowerPoint & PSE. If its a simple drop shadow you require, I'd suggest doing it in PowerPoint simply because it is easier.
    However if you wish to do it in PSE, you first need to ensure that there is some 'empty' space around the image/graphic in order to be able to see the shadow. Either reduce to size of the image/graphic with the Move tool (first one in the box on the left hand side) or increase the canvas size by going to: Image > Resize > Canvas Size.
    Then you need to ensure that Artwork and Effects Palette is visible on screen. If it isn't Go to Window > Artwork and Effects. Select the 3rd icon along from the left at the top of the palette The tool tip says "Apply Effects, Filters and Layer Styles". From the drop down boxes immediately below. Select Layer Styles for the left hand box and Drop Shadows in the Right hand box. You will now see a choice of shadows. Pick one and click on Apply.
    Hope this helps.

  • Need help with adding shadows to a shape (gradient mesh?...blur tool?)

    Hello. I'm an Illustrator novice, as you will be able to tell from my question. I'm somewhat familiar with the gradient mesh tool as well as the raster effects that Illustrator CS3 offers, but I can't figure out how to use them to do what I have to do.
    Here's my situation. I'm creating a logo design. It is a musical note with a flame coming off of it. I want to add the appearance of the shape having shadows (yellow for the light areas, and red for the shadowed areas).
    I can't get the gradient mesh tool to work because I'm assuming the shape is too complex. I understand that I could probably just create a bunch of different gradient mesh areas and just try to mesh them together, but is this necessary? ...and is chopping my shape into mulitple sections really the best method ? (it sure doesn't seem like the logical solution).
    Then I tried using Illustrators blur effects. I'm concerned to even use them for a logo design, because the "blur" effect is raster, and with a logo; it's probably not wise to use anything raster, correct? Anyway...i can't get it to work. I created a shape using the pen tool to replicate the shape of the shadow. When i blur it, the blur is visable outside the original logo shape. I don't know how to make it stop at the path edge. Does anyone know how?
    If anyone can please help me here, I would be more than grateful. I realize these questions probably stupid ones, but I just can't seem to figure out how to do this, despite reading tutorials and watching numerous youtube videos on the gradient mesh tool; I can't seem to figure out how to adapt it to my situation.
    Here is the image I created in Photoshop. I am trying to duplicate it in Illustrator CS3.

    Thanks Steve and Jet. I've spent the lasts 2 hours calling around to different print shops in hope that I can maybe trade labor for insight into their printing process. Problem is there seems to be a lack of 4 color offset printing companies who also offer spot colors. I really wish I had the money to take a class, but when I do, I will. I just contacted a few freelance designers who seem to have a lot of print work in their portfolios. Maybe they can teach me a thing or two, and in return I can drop them a few bucks or help them with something.
    Jet, you've got me very concerned here. What do you mean by "It's not just a matter of selecting colors; it's also a matter of selecting the number of inks necessary to render them in the various reproduction methods in which the mark will be used"? Are you just stating the importance in using swatch books (Pantone)?
    You mention the importance of a design being rendered in different forms (apparel, signs, promotional items..). So how should I go about doing this? Lets say a client wants a "mark" printed on all of the things you stated. Is it my duty to find out what printer they will be using before I submit design files to them? Is it the job of the designer to contact the print shop and get their profiles for different prints (glossy paper prints, matte paper prints, t-shirt printing, vehicle graphic printing)? This is all very time consuming, so should there not be extra charges when dealing with setting up different print settings for particular print jobs?
    I've read the blogs of some successful logo designers. David Airey for example just submits his logo design to his client in eps form I believe (plus any requests). Should he be submitting a separate file for each intended use, or is this the job of the client and printer to work out?
    You've got me extremely worried that I am going to really deal someone a bad hand here. As far as I know, this hasn't happened yet; but I'm glad you have me concerned. The sad part is that I do have a 2 year degree in graphic design and I didn't learn one thing about printing and it's association with color. The little I have learned is from the internet. I've checked out Amazon(dot)com for a good book on learning about color and print, but there seems to be a lack of recently written books (with reviews) regarding the subject. Can you recommend any?
    I started doing freelance work because people would ask me to design a t-shirt for them, or a flyer for their small business. So I did. Now I have more people requesting my services. It's hard to turn down the money, especially in these times. But at the same time, I don't want to cause major headaches for anyone either. Until recently, I had no idea the complexity of the design to print process. Just 3 days ago, I purchased a monitor calibration device and my first set of Pantone guides. They should arrive shortly. I know, don't laugh.
    My lack of knowledge regarding this whole thing has really got me questioning what I am doing. I figured all i really needed to know in Illustrator was to use the pen tool, since my use of Illustrator has been strictly for shaping logos.
    There are just so many questions I have, and all can't be answered through a google search. I really don't like wasting your time with my ignorance, but I do appreciate your assistance. It takes some time for my little brain to absorb all of this, but I have been reading all I can from the endless tutorials and forum discussions available on the web. The problem I've found is that alongside the large amount of great info on the web, there is seemingly an equal amount of contradictory or partially inaccurate info as well. which only confuses me more. For example, most people say to design in cmyk for print (300dpi higher or vector). A rep from Pantone told me to create my designs using Pantones color swatch groups. Why would I want to start in Pantone? Don't all of their colors cost extra money (spot colors require a new printer plate and ink to be set up). Starting in cmyk seems like a more logical approach. Is he just trying to sell me Pantone?
    Sorry for my redundant question regarding the concern for non-single colored paths not being able to join. You obviously answered my question with your example.
    For your time, I would like to show my appreciation. If you wouldn't' mind leaving your paypal address, I can send ya a couple/few bucks. Books are great, but they can't answer all questions. Forums like this one are really very helpful and a great learning tool. I do realize I have to continue educating myself as much as possible. I'm not going to give up, that's for sure.
    So, do you work for Adobe, or are you a graphic designer? Do you have a website with tutorials or a book I can buy lol?
    It would be great to be able to see a walkthrough in the design process of a successful designer and the proper methods of designing for different forms of print.

  • Insert graphic logo to java smtp mail

    Hi All,
    I am creating email using the apache commons email package. The doubt I have it to insert a graphic image in this HTMLMail. Any kind of image added comes as an attachement to the mail, but I would like to see this image at the signature part of the mail.
    Anyone with any ideas as to how it can be done or any suggestions of any packages available to do this, please respond with your views.
    Thanks in advance
    -Kashi

    javax.mail.MessagingException: Could not connect to SMTP host: localhost, port: 25; nested exception is: java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused: connectConnection refused only has one meaning and it has nothing to do with mail per se. Either there is no server listening at that IP:port or there is a firewall in the way that is refusing you access. More likely the former, as firewalls tend to just drop connection requests rather than fail them.

  • Trouble Inserting Graphics in SharePoint Wiki Library page

    I've set up a Wiki library page on a Sharepoint site and built half-inch square jpeg graphic icons to use as hyperlink "buttons" to open linked resources.   Inserted first
    12 or so no problem.  After that, when I insert a new jpeg, sometimes the graphic appears and sometimes just the file name of the graphic in a little box.  Can't figure out why the graphic image itself does not always appear.
    Any insights?

    Hi,
    From your description, when you replaced the icon of a hyperlink with a picture, it showed only file name instead of picture itself. If I misunderstood, please point it out.
    We need more investigations for further troubleshooting:
    Could you see the problematic picture in the Site Assets (assuming you choose to upload it to Site Assets when inserting the picture)?
    Did you insert from computer or address?
    Did you see the red x when it only showed the file name?
    Please also capture the screen shot for the correct and incorrect display of the hyperlink picture.

  • Using XML to insert graphics, FM 7

    I work with a very complex process to take MS Word rtf files, structure them and convert them into xml, then run PERL scripts to export them for web and print output. The print files are edited in FrameMaker 7.0 for Mac. I want to be able to change the placement of some of the graphics that are automatically placed, but I'm not sure about how to do it.
    A PERL script is run on XML files, a note in the script says:
    #"The following section inserts standard graphics into the xml
    # These are inserted here because attaching them using FM "Frame Above Pgf" does not place them correctly as of FM 7.0 (Mac)"
    A graphic that we use is inserted as follows:
    # insert the handbook graphic on directives that reference it.
    $graphic = "<AnchoredFrame file=\"graphics\/directive_anskey.tif\" impby=\"ref\" position=\"runin\" dpi=\"300\" align=\"aright\" width=\"1.5in\" height=\"1.0in\" xoffset=\"0in\" yoffset=\"0in\"/>";
    $text =~ s/<directive_anskey>(.*?)<\/directive_anskey>/<directive_anskey>${1}<\/directive_anskey>\ r$graphic/gsi;
    But if I don't want the graphic to Run Into the paragraph, but be Placed at Insertion Point and at -72. pt above baseline, what do I need to change in the above text to make it so?
    Another place I can change this instruction is in the resulting XML files that are created after running the series of PERL scripts:
    directive_anskey>Check your answers with the key.</directive_anskey>
    <AnchoredFrame file="graphics/directive_anskey.tif" impby="ref" position="runin" dpi="300" align="aright" width="1.5in" height="1.0in" xoffset="0in" yoffset="0in"/></selfcheck></lesson>
    Again, where can I alter the file so that the position will be as I want it, and so I don't have to go in and do it manually?
    I would change the position="runin" to something like "insertpoint"? I've tried different versions of this, with no luck.
    Any help will be greatly appreciated... I didn't create our process, but I have to work with it.

    Hi Fogharty,
    Use following attribute values for graphic element to place them inline with para text and align the graphics vertically:
    position="inline" (corresponds to anchoring position "At Insertion Point"
    bloffset = "-72pt" (corresponds to "Distance Above Baseline")
    Additionally you can control the horizontal positioning, ie. distance to adjacent text, by adjusting the anchored frame size (width/height) vs imported graphics facet size (impsize) and x-offset (xoffset) attribute values.
    Hope this helps,
    Martti

  • InDesign Adding Shadow/Lines to Transparent PSD & JPG Files?

    I'm relatively new to InDesign, but as I've run this issue through an expert friend of mine who could not puzzle it out- I'm coming here.
    I have a number of different images, both JPG's & PSD's that have some transparent areas in them. I'm incorporating them into InDesign files using the "place" command, but when I export the InDesign file to PDF a strange sort of drop-shadow looking effect is coming up between the areas that have images and those that were transparent on the JPG & PSD.
    The transparent areas on the JPG & PSD's were created by simply deleting areas of a graphic, or by placing a small image onto a larger transparent background. No masks or clipping paths involved.
    Thank you for your help!

    I recently attended a seminar with Terry White (http://terrywhite.com/techblog/) and asked him about my issue here. He said, and I am paraphrasing here, that the problem is that my image with a transparent background is being processed through a filter (or something) that readies it for the final image- but the image behind it is not going through this transparency process, and that the inconsistency adds weird black shadows and/or halos under some printing situations.
    His solution was fairly simple- take the image BEHIND the one with the transparency, and set the transparency of that image to 99%. Its not visible to your eye, but it means that both images will be process through the "filter" and you won't get those weird halos and shadows.
    I haven't had the opportunity to play with his solution much- but on first run-through, it seems to be working for me.

  • Inserting graphics in MS Office Mac 2004

    Hi MacFriends! When in Word and I select "Insert" then "Picture" and navigate to a folder of pictures, all I see ans are icons. I find it difficult to know what to select. How can I set Word to display thumbnails of the pictures/graphics so I can see what to select? Thanks!

    Since Word is not an Apple product, you'll probably want to use a forum dedicated to Microsoft's Mac products such as <http://www.microsoft.com/mac/community/community.aspx?pid=newsgroups> rather than an Apple forum that focuses on compatibility issues between Macs and Windows.
    Be sure to search the forum first in case someone has already had a similar question answered

  • Space added to path when using graphics extension

    Hi,
    I'm having a strange problem.  I use the 'chart' element of BSP extension 'graphics', but this doesn't show me the generated graph in the portal.
    I've done some debugging and I've found out that this extension uses the method cl_graph_util=>publish_blob for putting the generated image in the server cache and generates a url inside the application.
    For retrieving the current application.  This method uses
    path = request->get_header_field( '~PATH_TRANSLATED' ).
    Now after this call, the content of the variable 'path' is '/sap/bc/bsp/arinso/EAQ_BP /output/result.do'.  So a space is added after the name of my BSP application and before the subfolder that contains my controller.
    Can anyone tell me where I might have misconfigured something that causes this?
    Thanks,
    Tim

    I couldn't find what causes it, but I've solved it by putting this code, just before the chart tag.
      data l_path type string.
      l_path = request->get_header_field( '~PATH_TRANSLATED' ).
      condense l_path no-gaps.
      request->set_header_field( name = '~PATH_TRANSLATED'
      value = l_path ).

    Your public class extends JFrame so it is a JFrame. In your main method you create a new JFrame and try to add the enclosing class (a JFrame by extension) to it. So you can either:
    1 &#8212; remove the JFrame extension from the class declaration and leave the code in the main method as&#8212;is:
    public class PM2C implements ActionListener {or,
    2 &#8212; leave the JFrame extension and remove the new JFrame instance in the main method.
    public class PM2C extends JFrame implements ActionListener {
        public PM2C(String title) {
            super(title);
