Adding songs from folder in album order

I'm a total noob to this iPod thingamajig, can anyone help?
When I try to add an album from a folder into the library it sorts all the songs into alphabetical order, when I want them to be sorted in the album order.
How do I add the albums with the songs in the right order?

you control the sorting with in tunes just click on the column header that you want to sort by (eg track #)

I don't see your screenshot but I assume you're starting with something like this, i.e., the compilation split into multiple albums:
If you select all the items that you want to be in a single album, right-click > Get Info you'll see this:
As you say, in iTunes 12 you don't see a field to enter a distinct Album Artist value. You can, however, address this by clicking the Add Field button and selecting Album Artist:
That makes the field available in the metadata dialog so that you can enter the required value:
You can also show the pre-iTunes 12 version of the dialog by holding the SHIFT key when selecting Get Info - this allows you to enter the Album Artist directly:

I am working on a friend of mine's 15g ipod(W/dock connector)and I am having the same trouble except it does it to all the songs. I have tried reseting it multiple times, but to no avail.
I am not sure that this runs on windows XP, it is absolutly archaic (compared to my 5th gen. 30g video).

How to keep songs from the same album together in the Walkman app?

How do I keep songs from the same album together in one album instead of it being spilt up into three different albums? Is there any way to keep this from happening? I have all of the correct album information, but it still happens. I thought I would use Media Go and see if it helps but it never works properly.
Any suggestions would be much appreicated.

Make sure your Album information in mp3 tags is all the same in all tracks belonging to the same album.

If, despite having the same album information in mp3 tags and clearing cache memory, you still get multiple entries or songs belonging to the same album are split into 2-3 albums, then I suggest an easy way.
Use Winamp and create an *.m3u playlist in the same directory you have the mp3 files stored in your phone. This playlist will then appear in Playlists - My Playlists and you will be able to enjoy your music in correct order of tracks and all the tracks will be there.
That is my method (using m3u Winamp playlists) simply because Walkman app does not respect the Track Number tag in mp3 files belonging to the same album and rather sorts the tracks within the same album based on Date Created.

When I copied my cd collection to my iTunes account, I use the view by CD option in the viewer. How can I get songs from the same album to show nder the same view, instead of making it a separate thing?

Thank you... just read up on iTunes Match. That stinks, paying a yearly thing... but I understand everyone has to make a dollar. I think I'm better off just picking the best songs out of my collection storing them on my computer or iPhone then selling my CD's to some used CD place. If I ever really want to hear a song there are multiple options and if I want it... the .99 to 1.29 option is always there.

Yes.
The album which the song has been listed under (on the song's page) is listed in your library under that album. The song is then removed automatically from the first album
No it's not.
Purchasing a new song or album will not affect any other song or album in your library.
In the case of the two albums you mention, if you purchase them both, you will have the same song (different copies) in both albums.

Why are songs from the same album being separated in my library?

My library is currently sorted by "Album by Artist." I have 5 songs from a particular album and the library is grouping only 4 of them together, while singling out and listing 1 song separately, just beneath the other 4 songs. The text in the Artist, Album Artist, and Album fields are exactly identical for all 5 songs, so why is 1 being singled out? I've tried quitting and restarting iTunes (version 9.1.1) and this doesn't solve the problem.

If you read the Grouping tracks into albums article you will see that this technique is just one among many and only works in particular circumstances. There will, no doubt, be other steps that you need to take to merge the tracks into a single cover in this case.

Songs from the same album not grouped together

Sometimes when I import songs from the same album, they do not show up grouped together. I will end up with several entries, with one or two songs each. Sometimes the correct album art is on each one, and sometimes not. How can I stop this from happening, and how can I correct it if it does?

Songs from the same album appearing as coming from different albums

I am having trouble grouping multiple songs into one album. In my iTunes, there are songs from the same album that are appearing as from separate albums. For some reason, it is only happening in rare cases. It has randomly split The Roots' album How I Got Over into 3 separate albums, and it has split every Outkast song into individual albums.
And yes, I have already tried the basic steps of selecting all the songs I want to group, and editing their info together. I have done this, and ticked every box in the info fields so they will be identical. Yet they are still appearing as songs coming from separate albums.
Does anyone know what I can do? (I am using the current version of iTunes -- v9.2.0.61)

Actually there is something else, more for the purists though.
Some albums will have "featured" artists and they will be stuck into another part of the tag, but by doing that iTunes thinks it's another artist and treats it as a different album. A good fix that I use is to remove the featured artist and ammend it to the track name. So: "When You're Gone (feat. Mel C)" Is the actual track name instead of "When you're Gone" and the artist being "Mel C" and the album artist being "Bryan Adams". Make sense?
By turning it into a compilation it will change where it appears on your iPod or whatever, basically it will be grouped with all other compilations, not where the artist should be.

N.B. Giving different things the same sort value (or indeed vice versa) tends to lead to trouble.

I'm trying to reset my ipod and put new music on there only I want to save some of the albums I already have imported. But I'm using my dad's laptop so none of my music is in the library and I can not figure out how to get the songs from my ipod to the library. Does anyone know how to do this? I've already tried copying and pasting and dragging but it won't allow me to do it.

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using a lot of the utilities your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers has been introduced with iTunes 7. The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. This is just a selection, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. i have 2 itunes libraries on one computer, is there a way to add songs from one library to another without burning a cd?i know you can add folders to libraries, is there a way to make a folder? thanks in advance

Create a shared folder that both accounts can access and copy the file there so the other account can get to it.
And before you ask how to create a shared folder, this is covered in your computers help files. Try it.

Bought song from 80's album play on computer but not itouch, another song from album play on both

The exact same thing has happened to me . . . 2 of the 4 songs I purchased recently play fine on the PC and are listed in the ipod's contents, but are skipped over when I try playing them directly on the ipod. I'm a newbie at this, so go easy . . .
