Adding songs without itunes

is it possible?
itunes doesn't work on my computer.

There are a few iTunes alternatives you could have a look at, Anapod, XPlay or EphPod are just some of them. However as suggested above, if you post your issues in the iTunes forum you may get a resolution to whatever is going wrong:
Anapod Explorer
XPlay 2
EphPod
These programs will all let you manage an iPod however there are a couple of things that they won't do:
a) You won't be able to update the firmware on your iPod if a new version comes along. The iPod software updater is integrated into iTunes 7
b) If purchasing iTunes Music is something you wanted to do you won't be able to buy from the iTunes Music store.

  • When adding songs to Itunes library, itunes stops working

When adding songs to itunes library it stops wokring and itunes closes.

I'm having the exact same problem and I came to this forum seeking the answer.
To go into more detail, the problem occurs when you click on 'Add File to Library', then select multiple songs from a folder using the CTL key. You can add tracks individually with no problem. Use CTL to choose two or three tracks, that works fine, too. But if you choose more than that, nothing gets added to the Library.
If I had to guess, I'm thinking it might have something to do with the total number of characters allowed (on the selected tracks) before the 'Add to Library' pop-up form basically fails to work properly. I've also noticed the magic number of selected tracks to be somewhere in the 3-4 range before it doesn't work.
It definitely feels like a software bug and I've experienced it in more than one version of iTunes, including the current release. I'm hoping Apple will recognize and fix it sometime soon. Having to go into the same folder three or four times to import 10 or more tracks from the same album is pretty irritating.

  • Adding song to Itunes

I have just updated the newest version of itunes, and when i add folders to the library the songs go into my recently added but not in the library.
I can play the songs through Itunes and edit the song name but they will not appear in the library. Any ideas??

It could be that you have inadvertently imported these CDs into iTunes as part of a compilation. If so, the artists won't show in the artists menu on the iPod.
To check, highlight the tracks on one of the offending artists CDs in iTunes, right click and select "get info". This brings up a multiple song info window, and from there you can check if you have 'yes' in the box marked "part of a compilation".
If you have, select 'no' instead and click 'ok'. Do this with any CD that has this issue. This will alter the info in iTunes, and you should then connect your iPod and synchronize the changes.
The problem arises because the information contained on the Gracenote CD Data Base (where iTunes gets all it's album/artist/track info from), is sometimes incorrect. It can show CDs as compilations when in fact they are not.
You should also check that the songs have album name info in their ID tags.
See: Some songs don't don't show under artist on my iPod.

  • Not Possible to Purchase Songs without iTunes Application, right?

    Hi, Everyone,
I was just wondering if it were at all possible to purchase songs via an Internet browser, and then download them at a later time using the iTunes application.
I currently do not have my own Internet connection as I am out of town for a couple weeks, but would like to get new music. The only places I can find in this town that has Internet connection are some small cafes with free wireless Internet. However, the connections are problematic; in this case, it takes a long time (between 15 and 20 minutes) to search for one song, add it to the Shopping Cart, then buy it successfully. However, I can download songs very quickly. I am currently on a wired connection (not my laptop), and this connection is fine, so I was hoping I could purchase songs and then just download them using my laptop on a wireless connection.
    Thank you,
    Victor Ly

why would you want to risk your account info on a connection at a cafe somewhere on the street? and why would you wanna buy the songs now and download them later? ....... the songs are always there, they are not going anywhere. you can still buy and download them when you think the conenction is safe and fast.... also, you can not buy songs from IE and download them from itunes, you have to buy them from itunes in order to download them in itunes ............ you can still buy songs many places on the internet from IE, but you can not download them in itunes .... they are seperate.
you can import songs into itunes tho ... if you already have them on your computer, yes you can use the add files to library in itunes.

  • ITunes Security - Keeping the babysitter from adding songs to iTunes Lib.

This is a nube question, but is there a way to limit access to the iTunes program so that anyone can play from the library but not add to it? Password protection for additions perhaps?
This question is the result of a babysitter who brought over her MP3 CD collection. I now see all of the songs she played in the iTunes Library.
My main concern is to make sure that her songs are not anywhere on my computer (for the obvious legal reasons... and also because I don't enjoy that type of music).
I currently have 6GB of legit music that I don't want to remove, so if there is an automatic way to remove all of her music (at once) by date entered it would also be helpful. I also do not see a folder for her music within the iTunes folder.
    Thank you,
    Decussation
    AMD Athlon 64   Windows XP

Well to remove her songs that were added to iTUnes. open iTunes in the main library, hit the "Date added" Header to organize the list by date. Then seect the first song of hers, hold down the ctrl key and selct each one of hers. after that let go of the key and rightclick then select "Clear". this will claer them off iTunes and if the songs are actually on your PC you will get a message asking if you want to move them to the recycle bin, click yes and then empty the recycle bin.
I don't know how to stop iTunes from adding things, But if you allow the babysitter on your PC, you may want to consider setting up user accounts on your PC in windows. You can do this by going to the control panel and selecting "User Accounts". you can turn on the "Guest" account or set up a user account for him/her. This would allow you to lock or password protect folders, and lock the CD drive from being used.
iTunes comes with a "Share" feature that will allow her to listen to your music on her account. you will have to move or copy your songs to the "Shared Documents" folder tho I think.

  • Is there a way to recommend iTunes adding songs to iTunes match?

I've been using iTunes match since it came out - and I wondered if there was a way to recommend to the powers that be songs or albums that would be nice to add to their matching service?
Yes - I am aware that they can upload my songs if they don't match - but the reason this is important to me is because the versions downloaded from their match service (whether I bought the original from iTunes or whether I ripped songs from my CDs) are pretty well equalized with regard to volume.   I find if I upload a newer song it comes out louder on playback and an older song is much lower.    (And I don't have the ears or time to go into a program like Audacity to equalize the volume on each and every song I want added - and it's annoying to have to adjust the volume during playback whenever I reach an uploaded song.)
I find it perplexing when I rip one of my CD's (case in point - very best of Jackson Browne) and most but not all the songs are matched.  (I'm not even referring to an obscure album cut - 'The pretender' - one of his biggest hits - doesn't match.)    I found this also on a top 40 song from the Four Tops' anthology and 'Carry on' - a CSN trademark song from CSN's greatest hits.    I mean - if they're going to match an artist's greatest hits album - why just some of the songs?
Also - Broadway cast albums are pretty hit and miss.   Two recent Tony Award-winning shows - the Pippin revival and the Carole King songbook musical - Beautiful - don't match.   (Actually - on Beautiful - the reprise of one of the songs matches and nothing else does.)
So bottom line - is there a way to recommend songs or albums for iTunes to add to their matching service?  I know recommending a song won't guarantee its placement - but at least they'll know there is some interest.
    Thanks!

Thanks, Jimz - I only rip my CDs as 320 mp3 - quality is good - but the volume is awry.    I have already discovered that if I'm using an unusual setting to begin with that I can get it to match if I convert the file to 320 mp3.  I know what you mean by 'the original track' as I have had success with some groups' initial CD and yet the song wouldn't match on a same-label greatest hits package or compilation.    And I'm not referring to those off-label compilations.  And I'm talking about hit songs - not various mixes of songs.
I would like (if anyone knows) where I can recommend  (or query the appropriate person at iTunes) albums and/or individual songs to be added by Apple to iTunes.    (Again - they might not be responsive - but at least they know someone wants them.)   I'm not going to die if I can't hear a song on my iPhone, but I don't put any non-matched songs there - I had at least a few incidents where I was walking or bicycling and an unmatched song came on and the volume was blasting much louder than the matched songs.
I do appreciate the time you took....

  • Adding ringtones without iTunes syncing?

Is it possible to add .m4r ringtones to my iPhone 5 without using iTunes to sync?

No.  Apple really has us locked into iTunes to prevent pirating and sharing.  This is really does mar the user experience as far as most people are concerned.  Because some people share songs, ringtones, movies, etc.  We all have to play in the iTunes Sandbox.

  • Can't Sync Songs Without Itunes Erasing My Existing Library ( PLEASE HELP!)

Okay, My laptop had a problem and I had to restore my system to it's default setting. In which it deleted everything, Including iTunes. I downloaded iTunes again, and I didn't have any of my songs. So I tried to sync them back, But when I tried to sync it, a box popped up stating 'Are you sure you want to sync music? All existing content on the iPod "Alexis's iPod" will be removed and replaced with songs and playlist from your iTunes library.' . I don't want to delete all my songs and have to start over. I Googled how to and many sites told me to go to the summary section and select " manually manage music and videos" under the options tab, then just drag and drop the songs into the iPod. So I went to the summary and did it. But when I tried to drag and drop the selected song, it wouldn't move, I think it may have to do with the fact that I had to resort to using "file sharing sites" (which I was very reluctant in doing, because of the viruses). I couldn't find the songs I wanted on iTunes so I had to find them on a file sharing site. So my question is, How do I sync my songs from the file sharing site and iTunes with out my songs being deleted?

Apple's software doesn't allow transferring music from the iPod to a computer. There are unsupported programs out there that will do this for you, but most aren't freeware.
    Good luck!

  • Can i upload song without iTunes? if so, how?

iTunes isn't working on my computer, but do i need it to upload songs, or is it just for buying music? i already have mp3s to upload already. is this possible w/o iTunes, if so how?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
If you're comfortable going 'under the hood', this thread originally started in November 2010 contains a minor tweak to OS X that might work for you:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2658720?threadID=2658720&tstart=0
It allows devices on iOS 4.2 or newer to print to shared wired and wireless printers as long as the Mac is on and awake.

  • Finding "Recently Added" song in iTunes library

My question really is, "How do I find a recently recorded song in my iTunes Library with MAIL?" To be more specific, I'll make a recording that I want to E-mail NOW. The problem is, I can't find it with the MAIL "Paperclip". I have been dragging the sound file to the desktop, where MAIL can easily find it, but it seems to me that there must be another way. Is there?

I use a Smart Playlist in iTunes for this:

  • Problems adding songs to iTunes/syncing

    Hi there,
So I recently got a new 160g iPod, and went through the trouble of cleaning up my library. When i attempted to Sync all 9k songs i had, only about 2-3k actually made it to my ipod. So i reset my ipod to factory settings, uninstalled itunes and tried to reinstal itunes, and throw all my music back onto itunes. Now whenever I open itunes it says "analyzing music" at the top, as if i just dragged a bunch of new music into my itunes, and claims it will analyze roughly 5k songs. Well whenever this happens my itunes decides to crash and stop working. Im not sure if it is an iTunes problem, or my computers problem. here is the most recent (of many) crash reports. Any help is appreciated, just trying to get some tunes on my ipod.

Im sure someone will know better than me how to fix this but you could try opening windows exploror and going to the folder the songs are located in, rightclick the song, select "Open With" and pick iTunes. That might force iTunes to open and add the song then
I Know iTUnes has issues with MP#s and corrupt ID3 tags attacted to them. you can search the net for a program called "TidyMP3" to fix corrupt tags if you have them

  • Problems adding songs to itunes...

Hello community. I recently had my 5 1/2 year old Macbook pro crap out on me. I was basically using it as a vehicle for my music in its twilight days.  I was worried I had lost my whole 7500 song library, but luckily for me I am signed up for itunes match, so it was not a problem getting my music library back on my PC desktop computer. I have run into the problem of not being able to add new songs to my library on this new computer, however. I don't purchase most of my music, though purchased songs do work. It's the songs acquired in the not-so traditional way that I'm having a problem with. I've tried downloading them in mp3 and mp4 format, and have tried every way I used to do on my mac laptop, like dragging it over or trying to upload it though my internet downloads page.  It's very frustrating that I can't figure this out. Curious to see if anyone else has run into a similar situation or if I'm just screwed. Either way, thanks in advance for any help or advice.

  • Adding songs freezes iTunes during copy

Whenever I drop a group of mp3's on Itunes, the application will hang with 'not responding' about 1/2 way thru during the copying process. I have tried a 'force quit' but have to restart in order to be able to launch iTunes again.
I have tried a repair permissions but it didnt help.
    Please help!!

I have had the situation where a single mp3 causes iTunes to choke on copying it. I'd get the beachball cursor for a while, and then I'd try to Force Quit iTunes. Even then it took a while to quit. If I simply let it continue for a few minutes, it would eventually seem to start playing but it would just be a one-second burst of noise, then a pause (with beachball cursor), another burst of noise, etc.
It was always specific files that would do this, and always free sample tunes that I had downloaded from places like insound.com, epitonic.com, etc. so I'd simply trash the file and move on. If I tried to download it again, the same thing would happen. If I previewed it in the Finder, it would sound corrupted, but at least it didn't cause a freeze. Typically it would be fewer than 1 in 100 files that are messed up this way.
I never had it happen while simply opening a group of files though, and never for a file that previously opened successfully.

  • How do I sync the lyrics of my songs with iTunes match?

I added on itunes lyrics but can not find them on my iphone how can I proceed?  I've updated itunes match on your computer and iphone is turned on in the music lyrics and podcast info. Google translate.

According to my knowledge, iDevices with iTunes Match does not import the lyrics for some reason. You can only see them if you import your songs without iTunes Match. I recommend Apple to fix it.
