Adding sound effect

Hi ... I have done a search but not found quite what I'm looking for ... very new to imovie and don't want to screw up in the same way I did with iphoto and imusic by getting the file structure messy ... ie I don't really want to touch anything ! but i want to use a sound effect (waves on a beach) I have a .wav where do i put it ? is it OK to use a .wav ? should it go in the same library folder as the default imovie fx (ie somewhere deep in the bowels of garage band's support files) ? Thanks for your time ? Roger

a) iM uses internally 48KHz aiff...- no .wav
b) if you just want to use it single shot, simply drag'n drop your audio file into the timeline/audio track (iM will convert into aiff... donb't care)
c) if you want your waves permanently in your "sound effects" pane, you have to wait until someone else answers, or I'll be home at my Mac (posting from an alien machine...)

    Trash your preferences. Trash your project render files. Switch off background rendering. Do not render. Export.

  • Adding a System Sound (Effect)?

    I have recorded a couple of alert sounds that I would like to have my Mac play. Where do they go, and what format are they supposed to be?
    I have tried searching for "Basso" (etc.) to no avail. The default (built in) sound effects apparently do not exist on my Mac, despite the fact that they appear in the list and work just fine.
    I know this is something simple, but I cannot find them! I have several pieces of software that can manage different sound formats. "Installing" the sounds is the problem.
    Thanks.

    Convert them to .aiff files and put them in your home folder's /Library/Sounds/. OPTION-click and hold the Dock's Finder icon and select Relaunch. Now, System Preferences->Sound->Sound Effects and select the one you want for the Alert action.

  • Adding a sound effect

    Now that I have several clips in the timeline, I want to add some sound effects. I want the sound effects to be timed to actions in the clip, and I want the background audio to mute when the sound effect plays. Guys, I am not laze--I have been searching and searching the electronic documentation and I cannot find what I need.
    Whichever is easier for you--can you tell me where to find this in the "manual," or can you explain how to do it?
    Thanks,
    Ben

    it sounds as if I have to manually make the adjustment for the background audio level to decrease when the sound effect is played.
    FCE provides a lot of control over all details of editing, but you have to give the correct "instructions" to do what you want.
    The basic point is that you must stack the "boing" sound below the audio clip that is linked to the video you captured (e.g. on track a3), move it right or left till the sound is synchronized with the bouncing ball and then listen to the result. You might not even need to lower the volume of the captured clip; what I suggested in my previous answer was for effects that had to substitute the original soundtrack. A "boing" might simply be on top of it. In any case it's up to you to make this decision. And if you decide you still want to lower the original volume you may follow my previous instructions.
    Just a note: if you use iMovie you have to do basically the same; not much difference in this case (in iMovie though you do not see the sound track linked to the captured clip, unless you explicitely Extract it).
    how make the sound effect happen at a specific time--picture putting a "boing" sound as a ball bounces. How do I do that?
    See above: just drag the "boing" clip right or left till you get syncronization. You may also set Show Audio Waveforms in the Timeline Options of the Sequence Settings (select the sequence and cmd-0) and the waveform of the boing may be of help in this operation.
    I hope this is clear

  • How do I remove the "whoosh" sound effect?

    I recently downloaded OS X Mountain Lion and I like the added features but I'm getting annoyed by what seems to be random "whoosh" noises. How can I disable this sound effect? Thanks a bunch! kmart69

    Try this System Preferences>Sounds>Sound Effects tab and deselect 'Play user interface sound effects'.
    If it's in Mail go to Mail>Preferences>General tab and you can control sounds there (independently of the above suggestion).
    I expect other applications may also have there own Sound Preferences that can be modified on an app to app basis.

  • Flex Mobile - Sound Effect not Playing on List snapping (code sample provided)

    Hello All,
    I'm trying to figure out how to play a Sound Effect on the trigger of the "changing" event on a List.
    So basically I have:
    <s:List id="theList" width="100%"
                itemRenderer="MyIconItemRenderer" verticalScrollPolicy="off"
                pageScrollingEnabled="true" scrollSnappingMode="center"
                caretChange="playSound(event)"> ... </List>
    So the list above snaps to the item to be centered, though I would like on every snap, for it to make a click sound. I've added the method for playing the sound as:
    private var tickChange:Sound;
    private var soundEffectURLRequest:URLRequest = new URLRequest('/assets/sound/click.mp3');
    protected function playSound(event:IndexChangeEvent):void  {
         tickChange = new Sound(soundEffectURLRequest);
         tickChange.play();
    The Sound effect plays, though it's not playing at every Snap interval, so if I scroll fast among them, it's not playing, only on the last selection.

    I can´t believe it.. While writing the previous post, I thought on a really simple solution and compiled it to give it a try. It works perfectly!
    As simple as setting the "cacheAsBitmap" property to "true" on the Spark lists of the views!!

    I have no sound effects or option to pick from my itunes while in imovie.  I am not sure what is going on.  The whole box is just gray.  Any help would be great!

    So, update, I have searched my computer, and apparently the original sounds from ilife sound effects is no longer on my mac... I'm not sure how they were removed, as I never deleted things, only added and moved. Now I have to find out where I can find just the ilife sound effects... maybe a download out there?

  • Adding sounds to alerts

    I was wondering if there was a way of adding more sounds to the system alert sounds like frog, basso, glass etc? Thanks

    Put an aiff audio file into ~/Library/Sounds and it should show up in the Sound Effects preference pane to be chosen as an alert sound.

    I have an audio problem that when ever I use my Firefox web browser it makes a sharp audible sound similar to a video game gun shot sound effect when ever I go into a new web page? I change to a new site or page a page on a site, I get an audible gunshot ping trpe sound? It happens almost every time. Its very annoying and is driving me nuts???
    Any body out there had this happen also or know how to diagnose and fix this type of problem? I would hate to have to delete my whole Firefox program and have to start over again. If that is the case I will probably just scrap it and go on to try Google Chrome instead. I already have GC partially set up. I really have liked Firefox up to this point. How do I add a sound effect to a slide in Keynote on a IPAD1?

    I'm looking at GB 11 right now, so I don't know if this translate exactly to '09, but I think it's similar if it doesn't:
    Looking at the shown Master Track, on the automation menu of options on the track (that lists volume, pitch tempo - whatever you want to send a curve through) there's another choice on the bottom: "add automation." You select this which gives you a dialog box and the option to add an automation curve for any of the Master Effects you've added in that Edit box on the right hand side.
    Clicking a parameter in that dialog box will add the category to that menu, and then you can create a curve for it (using a two-dot quick ramp up from 0 to whatever value you want, then a two-dot ramp down at the end) for just the measures you want.
    Ive done Add Automation, and Automatic Filter is now available on the "Add Automation". (Although Frequency, Resonance, Mode, Intensity & Speed are down as 5 seperate tick boxes under Automatic Filter and I'd like to just be able to select Automatic filter and not have to change each of these 5 independently and it just work from what I have set it to manually on left hand side).
    I've added points/dots to the curve during the section I need it, but this moves the filter up and down over that point AND from the very start of the song to the very end of the song.
    Where does the point/dot need to be/set to at the Start of the song upto the point I want the filter to kick?
    So there would be NO filter on the track from Bar 1 to end of Bar 9
    Then, where does the point need to be/set to at the end of song from the end of the filtered section?
    So there would be NO filter on the track from Bar 13 to end of the song?
    So just to confirm I want
    Bar 1 to end of Bar 9 - NO FILTER
    Bar 10 to end of Bar 12 - Filter
    Bar 13 to end of song - NO FILTER
    Thanking you in advance for a speedy response.

  • Adding sound to buttons causes then not to work.

    I have a flash project with 3 buttons in each frame 1 button is the correct answer and two are not
    here is the code
    import flash.events.Event;
    btnA.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, checkCorrectness);
    btnB.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, checkCorrectness);
    btnC.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, checkCorrectness);
    function checkCorrectness(e: Event): void {
      if (e.target == btnA) {
      if (correctA) {
      totalscore++;
      } else if (e.target == btnB) {
      if (correctB) {
      totalscore++;
      } else if (e.target == btnC) {
      if (correctC) {
      totalscore++;
      score.text = totalscore;
      if (totalscore == 18) {
      gotoAndStop(21);
      return;
      nextFrame();
    stop();
    var totalscore = 0;
    var correctA:Boolean = false;
    var correctB:Boolean = false;
    var correctC:Boolean = false;
    score.text=totalscore;
    each frame has this code below with the correct answer changing from frame to frame
    correctA = true;
    correctB = false;
    correctC = false;
    all works fine but now I have to use sound in the buttons so I duplicated a button and changed the name of one button to "true" and the original I changed to "false".
    I added  in each of the two new button names a sound effect ( sound 1 for button true and sound 2 for button false)
    So the frame list looks like this
    frame 1
    correctA = true;
    correctB = false;
    correctC = false;
    button name 1 true instance name btnA
    button name  2 false instance name btnB
    button name 3 false instance name btnC
    frame 2
    correctA = false;
    correctB = true;
    correctC = false;
    button name 1 false instance name btnA
    button name 2 true instance name btnB
    button name 3 false instance name btnC
    according to this each correct button would trigger sound1 telly the score and move to the next frame
    and each incorrect button would also tally the score and move to the next frame.
    Not all selections are making the frame move nor the score tally.
    any help.
    ALL OF THIS WORK FINE WITHOUT THE SOUND AND THE BUTON NAMES CHANGED. SO THE RESULT IS I ONLY HAVE A WORKING FILE BUT WITHOUT THE SOUNDS FOR EACH BUTTON.
    R

    Great works like a charm, one thing though. Every time I click the Incorrect button button I hear that audio twice . I checked the actual mp3 and it just one sound.
    Heres the code you gave me
    var correctSound:CorrectSound=new CorrectSound();  // assign this class
    var incorrectSound:IncorrectSound=new IncorrectSound();  "  "
    function checkCorrectness(e: Event): void {
      if (e.target == btnA) {
      if (correctA) {
      totalscore++;
    soundF(true);
      }else{
    soundF(false);
      } else if (e.target == btnB) {
      if (correctB) {
      totalscore++;
    soundF(true);
      }else{
    soundF(false);
      } else if (e.target == btnC) {
      if (correctC) {
      totalscore++;
    soundF(true);
      }else{
    soundF(false);
      score.text = totalscore;
      if (totalscore == 18) {
      gotoAndStop(21);
      return;
      nextFrame();
    function soundF(b:Boolean):void{
    if(b){
    correctSound.play();
    } else {
    incorrectSound.play();

  • Firefox and sound effects

    How can I disable sound effects in Firefox?
    For example, when right-clicking a link and clicking "open in a new tab" I hear a click. When closing a window with multiple tabs open I get a something like a "blip".
    I'm using KDE and I have all other sound notifications disabled. No KDE application plays sound notifications, only Firefox does. I guess it could be related to Gnome, but I don't know how to turn the sounds of as I'm not using Gnome.

    Thanks for your answer. I actually searched before starting this thread and didn't find anything, but it seems there was a thread about it anyhow.
    I tried Google too, but found nothing really helpful. However this was here on Arch BBS:

    Seems that has to do for now, unless somebody can give a different solution.

  • Why am I getting a delay on one of my tracks when I have added no effects?

    Why am I getting a delay on one of my tracks when I have added no effects? It sounds like a latency problem.

    AVI should never be used for iDVD.  Even Microsoft abandoned AVI and moved to WMV.  The reason for this is that AVI is limited to 2 GB is file size and has limited video codec support.  If you have problems with AVI in iDVD, convert it to Quicktime right away.

    Is there a way to add sounds NOT LOOPS but sound effects like for me, I have some WHOOSH sounds I would like to incorporate into a song. I am not sure how to go about importing that file into ST then using it in a song.

    A way to do this is by using a JMF player. Check out the JFM forum.
