Adding speech marks into a string

Hi!
Is there a way to have speech marks displayed/present in a string? For
example, if i wanted to write a line to a file which was enclosed in speech marks ("random gibberish") not only were the characters in the ring displayed, but the speech marks were too. I'm attempting to write a piece of code that will generate a HTML file for me, with some given parameters. Some of the values for the parameters contain more than a single word, so i need to encase them in speech marks in order to extract them later.
Thanks in advance for any help, and on any time spent answering the question
Zidane

Do you mean
String s = "\"Hello\"";

  • Split a multiline string from TextEdit into multiple strings

    Hi all,
    I have a small question. I have a string that comes from a multiline TextEdit used for comments. This string has to be split into multiple strings with max 72 chars. The wrapping is set to "hard".
    Can anybody help me on this?
    Thanks
    Francisco

    Hi Francisco,
    this is the complete code I tested, a bit ugly concerning the println etc... (****, not formatting here?):
    package com.btexx;
    import java.util.StringTokenizer;
    import com.sapportals.htmlb.Button;
    import com.sapportals.htmlb.Form;
    import com.sapportals.htmlb.TextEdit;
    import com.sapportals.htmlb.enum.TextWrapping;
    import com.sapportals.htmlb.event.Event;
    import com.sapportals.htmlb.rendering.IPageContext;
    import com.sapportals.htmlb.rendering.PageContextFactory;
    import com.sapportals.portal.prt.component.AbstractPortalComponent;
    import com.sapportals.portal.prt.component.IPortalComponentRequest;
    import com.sapportals.portal.prt.component.IPortalComponentResponse;
    public class TextEditExample extends AbstractPortalComponent
        public void doContent(IPortalComponentRequest request, IPortalComponentResponse response)
            IPageContext pageCtx = PageContextFactory.createPageContext(request, response);
            Event lastEvent = pageCtx.getCurrentEvent();
            if (lastEvent == null) {
                Form form = pageCtx.createFormDocument("myFormDocument");
                TextEdit te = new TextEdit("Edit_Text");
                te.setId("TextEditID");
                te.setText("Text to change - or just add text");
                te.setWrapping(TextWrapping.HARD);
                te.setTooltip("Edit and/or add text");
                te.setRows(10);
                te.setCols(72);
                form.addComponent(te);
                Button btn = new Button("MyButton");
                btn.setOnClick("react");
                form.addComponent(btn);
                pageCtx.render();
            } else {
                TextEdit te = (TextEdit) pageCtx.getComponentForId("TextEditID");
                String text = te.getText();
    //            for (int j = 0; j < text.length(); j++) {
    //                System.out.println(text.getBytes()[j] + " - " + text.substring(j, j+1));
                StringTokenizer st = new StringTokenizer(text, "nr");
                String[] texts = new String[st.countTokens()];
                while (st.hasMoreTokens()) {
                    System.out.println("Line : " + st.nextToken());
    I swear, I did not press Return within the TextEdit box, and after that, 13/10 appeared within the text. If just this code does not work the same on your machine, then it seems to be a bug in (your) htmlb (because my P/HF are the most actual, at least they have been yesterday).
    Hope it helps

  • How to add elements into java string array?

    I open a file and want to put the contents in a string array. I tried as below.
    String[] names;
    s = new Scanner(new BufferedReader(new FileReader("outfile.txt")));
    while (s.hasNext()) {
                    String item = s.next();
                    item.trim();
                    email = item;
                    names = email;
                }But I know that this is a wrong way of adding elements into my string array names []. How do I do it? Thanks.

    Actually you cannot increase the size of a String array. But you can create a temp array with the lengt = lengthofarray+1 and use arraycopy method to copy all elements to new array, then you can assign the value of string at the end of the temp array
    I would use this one:
    String [] sArray = null;
    s = new Scanner(new BufferedReader(new FileReader("outfile.txt")));
    while (s.hasNext()) {
        String item = s.next();
        item.trim();
        email = item;
        sArray = addToStringArray(sArray, email);
    * Method for increasing the size of a String Array with the given string.
    * Given string will be added at the end of the String array.
    * @param sArray String array to be increased. If null, an array will be returned with one element: String s
    * @param s String to be added to the end of the array. If null, sArray will be returned.(No change)
    * @return sArray increased with String s
    public String[] addToStringArray (String[] sArray, String s){
         if (sArray == null){
              if (s!= null){
                   String[] temp = {s};
                   return temp;
              }else{
                   return null;
         }else{
              if (s!= null){
                   String[] temp = new String[sArray.length+1];
                   System.arraycopy(sArray,0,temp,0,sArray.length);
                   temp[temp.length-1] = s;
                   return temp;
              }else{
                   return sArray;

  • Adding Chapter Marks makes DVD audio not work

    I sent a 65-minute video to Compressor from Final Cut Pro X. In Compressor I used the 'Dolby Digital Professional' and 'MPEG-2 for DVD' settings from the Disc Burning folder as targets, and added a job action to create the DVD. I left all default settings. DVD worked fine with good audio and great picture. Then I manually added Chapter marks in Compressor and created another DVD. This DVD had no sound for about half the video. Any ideas on how I can add Chapter marks in Compressor without losing audio? This is for a school Talent Show with about 25 different acts, so I really want to have a Chapter selection on the DVD. If I try other apps to make the DVD (FCP X, iMovie, iDVD) the video quality suffers terribly, so I'm hoping I can get Compressor to work. Thanks for any help.

    I've come up with a fairly straightforward workaround for this. In Final Cut Pro X, before sending to Compressor, do an audio-only export to an AC3 file (Share...Export media, select "Audio Only" for Export and "AC file" for Audio file format). Then use the "Send to Compressor" function from the Share menu in FCP X. In Compressor, create a DVD using the standard "Dolby Digital Professional" and "MPEG-2 for DVD" settings and adding a "Create DVD" job action. Make sure the target AC3 file name in Compressor has a different name (or location) than the AC3 file you created in FCP X. The resulting DVD does have intermittent audio as before, so it can be discarded.
    Here's the trick:
    Open the folder containing the Compressor-created AC3 file, copy the file name, then move that file to the Trash. Find the FCPX-created AC3 file, rename it with the name of the Compressor-created AC3 file, and move it into the folder where the Compressor-created AC3 file was before you moved it to the Trash. Now you can resubmit your job from Compressor and it will burn a new DVD using the AC3 file you created from FCP X, which should have good audio. For me this created a great looking DVD with the high quality MPEG-2 video from Compressor, and the good audio AC3 from FCP X.
    I think there is a bug when sending FCP X projects with multi-cam portions to Compressor. I've seen two other cases of this on the discussion boards and multi-cam appears to be the common thread. I can't think of any logical reason that an AC3 file created in FCP X would sound fine, but the same FCP X project sent to Compressor results in an AC3 file with intermittent audio.
    At one time I thought the issue was exceeding the capacity of the DVD. But after experimenting I learned that an AC3 file created in Compressor from my multi-cam FCP X project has intermittent audio, even without a "Create DVD" job action. (I used VLC to play back the AC3 file and had the same intermittent audio I had with the DVD).

  • Adding Index marks to the words of finished chapters...

    Hi Everyone,
    We are working in InDesignCS2 for books, the chapters & everything is completed. only the Index is pending to complete the book. We have index entries separately as word document. Now the concern is how to create the index marks for corresponding words to the completed chapters in InDesign??? Finding each words and putting index mark to those words is so difficult. Because we have more than 2000 words. Please suggest & help me for this concern. Thanks in advance.
    Regards
    S.Thiyagarajan

    Word has a Concordance function, InDesign does not. You should have inserted all markers into your original Word document before placing these into ID. Next time, think ahead.
    That said: if you still have your original Word documents, you can apply the same
    b page breaks
    there as are in your latest InDesign version. If the contents match page by page, you can use Word to create the index.
    Doesn't that sound like a real emergency solution? Well, you could have done it by hand by now, as this is the same post as Apr 29 (

  • How do you insert a carriage return into a string ?

    Hi,
    I don't know how to insert a carriage return, \n ,into a string
    without the carriage return being interpeted. I am trying to build
    a string called queryVariable from the file below so that it equates
    to the necessary format for JDBC to execute the query.
    SQL script file:
    declare @x datetime
    select @x = null
    exec OSVBAK01...demand_dump PRODUCT,FULL,@x
    go
    required string format for query:
    "declare @x datetime\n"+"select @x = null\n"+
    "exec OSVBAK01...demand_dump PRODUCT,FULL,@x";
    void Readfile(String path, String infilename) {
    try {
    File file = new File(path + infilename);
         if (!file.exists()) {
         System.err.println("File not found");
         BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader
    (new FileReader(file));
         String str;
         String queryVariable = "";
         StringBuffer sb = new StringBuffer();
         while ((str = in.readLine()) != null) {
         sb.append("\"").append(str).append("\n\"")
    .append("+");
         in.close();
         queryVariable = sb.toString();
         System.out.println(queryVariable);
    } catch (IOException e) {
         System.err.println(e.getCause());
    queryVariable equates to the following after running the code above:
    "declare @x datetime
    "+"select @x = null
    "+"exec OSVBAK01...demand_dump PRODUCT,FULL,@x
    "+"go
    "+
    Any assistance anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks for your time,
    YAM-SSM

    Interesting... that would mean, of course, that in the case of concatenating string literals (outside of loops, as they say), the compiler is optimizing the code to avoid the need for using StringBuffers internally. Actually, it's good to know this, as I wasn't aware of this optimization.
    However, the post wasn't meant to be serious... I hoped that was obvious. Everyone's spouting off nearly the same thing for adding strings and line separators and whatever.

    How ?

    A trick is to issue e.printStackTrace() against a memory-based output object.

  • Need to convert a long into a string, please

    hi there
    i need to convert a long into a string. can i just cast it like this:
    (String)longNumber = some function that returns a long;

    Why not just use Long.toString()? If you start with a long value, you can create a Long object and get it's value as a String.

  • How can I convert IDoc in XML format w/DTD into a string?

    I want to send by e-mail outbound IDoc in XML format with its document type definition (DTD).
    I want to be able to get the same output result into a string than the XML file IDoc port type with DTD activated.  I have created a FM (based on SAP "OWN_FUNCTION") assigned to an IDoc port of type ABAP-PI that executes the following processing steps:
    1-Extract outbound IDoc information to get the sender & recipient mail addresses (EDP13 / EDIPHONE tables).
    2-Convert & Transform IDoc data into XML string using FM IDX_IDOC_TO_XML.
    3-Prepare and send e-mail with XML attachement using FM SO_NEW_DOCUMENT_ATT_SEND_API1.
    I cand generate the e-mail with the XML file attachement but FM IDX_IDOC_TO_XML does not convert the IDoc with proper formating and DTD.
    What should I use to accomplish the IDoc conversion to XML w/DTD into a string?
    Should I use XSLT tools ?
    How does that work?
    Thank you

    Use decimal string to number
    Specifically, you can define a constant with a different datatype on the input on the lower left if you need a different datatype (e.g. U8, I64, DBL, etc) Are all your values integers or do you also need to scan fractional numbers? In this case, you should use "fract/exp string to number" instead.

  • I want to read the content of a text file dropped in a watched folder into a string variable

    I have a workbench process with 2 variable.

    The document being passed to the workflow is a text file with 4 lines of text in it.  when the text file is dropped into the watched folder, it will be assigned to the inDoc parameter in the workflow.
    My workflow needs to extract the 4 lines of text and write it into a string (outStr).

    which is what i expected...
    I've also tried with the Script.executeScript to call some java code but im not too strong in java and in all the examples i find, the file pointer requires a file path.
    import java.io.*;
    FileInputStream f = new FileInputStream(patExecContext.getProcessDataValue("/process_data/inDoc"));
    OR
    File f = new File(patExecContext.getProcessDataValue("/process_data/inDoc"));
    OR
    File f = patExecContext.getProcessDataValue("/process_data/inDoc");
    Any clue how to resolve my problem?

    Try the following code snippet to read the String content from the file recieved through watched folder endpoint.
    com.adobe.idp.Document inputDoc = patExecContext.getProcessDataDocumentValue("/process_data/inDoc");
    java.io.InputStream inStream = inputDoc.getInputStream();
    byte[] dataBuffer = new byte[inStream.available()];
    inStream.read(dataBuffer);
    String strData = new String(dataBuffer);
    patExecContext.setProcessDataStringValue("/process_data/outStr",strData);
    The code is not tested, hence if you find any mistakes, correct and test the functionality.

  • Need to concatonate multiple values for same key columns into one string

    Hi...I'm attempting to use PL/SQL to read through a table containing more than one column value for a set of keys, and concatonate those values together into one string. For example, in the STUDENT table, for a STUDENT_ID there are multiple MAJORS_ACCOMPLISHED such as History, Biology and Mathematics. Each of the majors is stored in a different row with the same STUDENT_ID due to different faculty DEPARTMENT values.
    I want to read through the table and write out a single row for the STUDENT_ID and
    concatonate the values for MAJORS_ACCOMPLISHED. The next row should be another STUDENT_ID and the MAJORS ACCOMPLISHED for that student..etc.
    I've hit a wall trying to use cursors and WHILE loops to get the results I want. I'm hoping someone may have run across this before and have a suggestion. Tks!!

    I think you are looking for string aggregation.
    The following are the replies posted by me in the forum recently on the same case.
    they might help you.

  • How do I pass single quotes into a string variable?

    Thanks for any help?
    Example
    Select xdat, yday
    from foo
    where
    xdat = to_char(sysdate, 'mm/dd/yyyy')
    How do I pass the single quoted stuff above into a string variable?

    Thank you but that is not the same thing. I am building a dynamic sql statement and need to pass the quoted material into a statement that is quoted Is that not what my example above shows?
    My example above has a quoted string inside a string. I think this is exactly what you were asking for.
