Adding sql loader into 11g Client already installed
I have already installed Oracle 11g client and need to add in sql loader. How is that best accomplished?
Easier than I thought. Just go back into the previous oracle client home install and the preinstalled items will be greyed out. Just add additional components you want to install.

No SQL*Loader in Instant Client; any alternatives?
My Windows application uses SQL*Loader to bulk-load very large data files. Instant Client appears not to include SQL*Loader.
Is there an alternative to SQL*Loader that my application should be using instead? And (getting greedy here) does the same alternative work in both Oracle 10 and Oracle 9?
Thank you for any assistance,
BrettOracle XE has sqlldr. You can set it as the client environment unless you want to install the full Oracle client (of course can do custom installation) and then use for loader. You can configure your tnsnames.ora for the target database and that should work.

Dumb question re Sql Loader in XP Client
Hi all,
I have a rather silly question. Previously I've worked exclusively in a Unix environment, but now find myself in XP.
I've done the full install of the Windows client for XP, but SQL*Loader is missing. I've RTFM'd, but can't find the necessary section. How do I get sql*loader installed in the XP environment?
Thanks (and apologies) in advanceIF you are talking of the 9i version, there should be the three database install disks (that contain both the database and the client tools). When you run the installer from the first disk from this set, you will have the option of installing the client tools (including SQL*Loader).

URGENT: Problems Loading files with SQL Loader into a BLOB column
Hi friends,
I read a lot about how to load files into blob columns, but I found errors that I can't solve.
I've read several notes in these forums, ine of them:
sql loader: loading external file into blob
and tried the solutions but without good results.
Here are some of my tests:
With this .ctl:
LOAD DATA
INFILE *
INTO TABLE mytable
REPLACE
FIELDS TERMINATED BY ','
number1 INTEGER EXTERNAL,
cad1 CHAR(250),
image1 LOBFILE(cad1) TERMINATED BY EOF
BEGINDATA
1153,/opt/oracle/appl/myapp/1.0.0/img/1153.JPG,
the error when I execute sqlldr is:
SQL*Loader-350: Syntax error at line 9.
Expecting "," or ")", found "LOBFILE".
image1 LOBFILE(cad1) TERMINATED BY EOF
^
What problem exists with LOBFILE ??
(mytable of course has number1 as a NUMBER, cad1 as VARCHAR2(250) and image1 as BLOB
I tried too with :
LOAD DATA
INFILE sample.dat
INTO TABLE mytable
FIELDS TERMINATED BY ','
(cad1 CHAR(3),
cad2 FILLER CHAR(30),
image1 BFILE(CONSTANT "/opt/oracle/appl/myapp/1.0.0/img/", cad2))
sample.dat is:
1153,1153.JPEG,
and error is:
SQL*Loader-350: Syntax error at line 6.
Expecting "," or ")", found "FILLER".
cad2 FILLER CHAR(30),
^
I tried too with a procedure, but without results...
Any idea about this error messages?
Thanks a lot.
Jose L.> So you think that if one person put an "urgent" in the subject is screwing the problems of
other people?
Absolutely. As you are telling them "My posting is more important than yours and deserve faster attention and resolution than yours!".
So what could a typical response be? Someone telling you that his posting is more important by using the phrase "VERY URGENT!". And the next poster may decide that, no, his problem is evern more import - and use "EXTREMELY URGENT!!" as the subject. And the next one then raises the stakes by claiming his problem is "CODE RED! CRITICAL. DEFCON 4. URGENT!!!!".
Stupid, isn't it? As stupid as your instance that there is nothing wrong with your pitiful clamoring for attention to your problem by saying it is urgent.
What does the RFC's say about a meaningful title/subject in a public forum? I trust that you know what a RFC is? After all, you claim to have used public forums on the Internet for some years now..
The RFC on "public forums" is called The Usenet Article Format. This is what it has to say about the SUBJECT of a public posting:
=
The "Subject" line (formerly "Title") tells what the message is about. It should be suggestive enough of the contents of the message to enable a reader to make a decision whether to read the message based on the subject alone. If the message is submitted in response to another message (e.g., is a follow-up) the default subject should begin with the four characters "Re: ", and the "References" line is required. For follow-ups, the use of the "Summary" line is encouraged.
=
([url http://www.cs.tut.fi/~jkorpela/rfc/1036.html]RFC 1036, the Usenet article format)
Or how about [url http://www.cs.tut.fi/~jkorpela/usenet/dont.html]The seven don'ts of Usenet?
Point 7 of the Don'ts:
Don't try to catch attention by typing something foolish like "PLEASE HELP ME!!!! URGENT!!! I NEED YOUR HELP!!!" into the Subject line. Instead, type something informative (using normal mixed case!) that describes the subject matter.
Please tell me that you are not too thick to understand the basic principles of netiquette, or to argue with the RFCs that governs the very fabric of the Internet.
As for when I have an "urgent" problem? In my "real" work? I take it up with Oracle Support on Metalink by filing an iTAR/SR. As any non-idiot should do with a real-life Oracle crisis problem.
I do not barge into a public forum like you do, jump up and down, and demand quick attention by claiming that my problem is more important and more urgent and more deserving of attention that other people's problem in the very same forum. -
Use of SQL*Loader and Thin Client
I have a java application that is currently using the thin client. For portability issues, I am unable to use an OCI driver. My application also uses SQL*Loader.
My big issue is that The Thin client requires the HOST and SID for a connection.
But, for SQL*Loader to work in a client/server environment it needs to use the SERVICE_NAME and net8. Is there any way to have SQL*Loader use similar information that the thin client is using?
I know the right solution is to use the OCI drivers, but right now that is not feasible.
Thanks for any help in advance
Jeff McNurlan
Navigation Technologies.I assume you are using an ObjectInputStream. Without seeing your code or a snippet I can't be certain...
The JDBC spec says the following about ObjectInputStream :
"An ObjectInputStream deserializes primitive data and objects previously written using an ObjectOutputStream"
Since there was nothing written by ObjectOutputStream, ObjectInputStream has nothing to deserialize and this exception would be raised. -
Installing 10g client on windows7 64 bit. ( 11g r2 already installed)
I am a fiscal auditor auditing data on databases with hundreds of millions rows. So not a professional database expert.
I have Oracle 11.2.0.1.0 installed on Windows 7 64 bit ultimate
I want to import data from warehouse which has Oracle 10.2.0.4.0 installed.
When I try to import
impdp usr/pass@WAREHOUSE TABLES=TABLE DIRECTORY=DATA_PUMP_DIR NETWORK_LINK=D_W VERSION=10.2
It gives :
UDI-00018: Data Pump client is incompatible with database version 10.2.0.4.0
To overcome version incompatibility, I think I need to install 10g client on my computer.
But I already have 11gr2 database installed, so I wanted to learn about potential problems.
Especially about having two Oracle Homes, tnsnames.ora files, which 10g client version, etc..
Step by step explanation is highly appreciated.
Thanks.orafad wrote:
Are you connected to the target or source database with impdp? Db link for source db to be used in NETWORK_LINK argument, in which database does it exist?
Again, show impdp command session (copy-paste)
orafad thanks, I understand my mistake but I encountered a new one.
I was using source username/pass for impdp, it was wrong I should use target username.

SQL Loader into two related tables
I am trying to import data into two tables from a single data file.
The data looks something like this:
Name Dept
Joe Sales
Bob Support
Steve Engineering
Mary Support
I can easily import the data into a single table that has name and department with both as strings but I would like to import the data into two tables like:
Name DeptId | DeptId DeptName
---- ------ | ------ --------
Joe 10 | 10 Sales
Bob 20 | 20 Support
Steve 30 | 30 Engineering
Mary 20 |
Can anyone point me to a reference to help with such an import1. User is on the OFFER_CONTENT canvasOk
2. User presses ‘+’ buttonOk
3. On the screen is displayer PRODUCT list
4. User set focus on desired product
5. Using popup menu user choose ‘Add’ option
6. PRODUCT list is being closedSo, the functionlatity is like a LoV?
7. OFFER_CONTENT is being shown with set of information from the productOk, you would either take the values directly from the fields of the PRODUCT-list and copy them into the OFFER_CONTENT-fields, or you just get something like the PRODUCT-ID from your PRODUCT-list and use a SELECT to read the product-details into the OFFER_CONTENT-block
8. User can then manually change desired elements of the recordOk.
So, where do you have the need to do an INSERT in your scenario? -

SQL*Loader-704 & ORA-12535 error , Oracle 9i AIX, Windows Client
Hi All,
I try to run SQL*Loader from Windows Client to Oracle 9i server on AIX. The control file is in the windows machine.
C:\SqlLdr user/password@myoradb control=mycontrol.ctl
(the data is 300,000 rows, on the same control file)
I get this error :
SQL*Loader-704 : Internal error : ulconnect: OCIServerAttach [0]
ORA-12535: TNS:Operation timed out.
FYI, from the same machine, TNSPing is OK, SQL*Plus run perfectly.
What is wrong here ?
Should I copy the CTL file into the AIX Server and run the SQL*Plus from AIX client console ?
Thank you for your help,
KristHave you checked the sqlnet.log file for an indication of the underlying error? You can also enable network tracing in the sqlnet.ora file, by setting trace_level_client=16.

Calling SQL Loader from ColdFusion Web Server
We are trying to Load Data files into Oracle through a Cold Fusion Web Application. Users will browse to a local file on their computers, click a button, and our application will use SQL Loader to load the data into oracle. The ColdFusion web server is Unix and the 11g database server is Linux. When we run the ColdFusion code below we get a file not found error, the sqlldr executable cannot be found. Do we need to install an Oracle client or something on the ColdFusion Web server to get this to work?
<cfexecute name="sqlldr" arguments="ADVDEMO@ADVDEMO/Transact2011 control=/space/users/www/advfiles/ControlFiles/BS/Bio_ControlFile.ctl" timeout="500"></cfexecute>'sqlldr' is part of Oracle server or (full) Oracle client software - NOT the OS - so indeed you need to install at least the client. Unfortunately 'sqlldr' is not part of the Instant Client, which is much smaller than the full client.
Some guys tried to add 'sqlldr' manually:

I have problem and your help to solve it would be very much appreciated.
I am uploading a text file with SQL Loader into a table. Since I used APPEND option in the Loader, I don't want records to be duplicated. So, I wrote a "BEFORE INSERT .. FOR EACH ROW" trigger to check whether that row already exists or not.
For example, let us consider a table TEST as follows.
Fld1 NUMBER(2);
Fld2 VARCHAR2(10);
Fld3 VARCHAR2(10);
I have a trigger on this table.
CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER Trg_Bef_Insert_Test
BEFORE INSERT ON Test FOR EACH ROW
DECLARE
vCount NUMBER(2);
DuplicateRow EXCEPTION;
BEGIN
SELECT Count(*) INTO vCount FROM Test
WHERE fld1 || fld2 || fld3 = :new.fld1 || :new.fld2 || :new.fld3;
IF vCount > 0 THEN
RAISE DuplicateRow;
END IF;
EXCEPTION
WHEN DuplicateRow THEN
Raise_Application_Error (-20001,'Record already exists');
WHEN OTHERS THEN
DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE('ERROR : ' || SQLCODE || '; ' || SUBSTR(SQLERRM, 1, 150));
END;
Please refer to the following SQL statements which I executed in the SQL Plus.
SQL> insert into test values (1,'one','first');
1 row created.
SQL> insert into test values (1,'one','first');
insert into test values (1,'one','first')
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-20001: Record already exists
ORA-06512: at "CAMELLIA.TRG_TEST", line 13
ORA-04088: error during execution of trigger 'CAMELLIA.TRG_TEST'
Would anyone tell me why do errors -6512 and -4088 occur ?
Also, if you have any other suggestion to handle this situation, please let me know.
By the way, I am using Oracle 8.1.7.
Thank you.There are a few things wrong here, but you should really use a unique constraint for this.
SQL> create table t (a number, b number, c number,
2 constraint uk unique (a, b, c));
Table created.Here's an example data file with 12 records three of which are duplicates.
1,2,3
3,4,5
6,7,8
3,2,1
5,5,5
3,4,5
3,2,1
1,1,1
2,2,2
6,7,8
8,8,8
9,9,9And a control file
load data
infile 'in.dat'
append
into table t
fields terminated by ',' optionally enclosed by '"'
(a, b, c)Running it with sql loader, inserts the nine records, outputs the three duplicates to a .bad file and logs all the errors in the .log file. No need for triggers or any code.

Need faster data loading (using sql-loader)
i am trying to load approx. 230 million records (around 60-bytes per record) from a flat file into a single table. i have tried sql-loader (conventional load) and i'm seeing performance degrade as the file is being processed. i am avoiding direct path sql-loading because i need to maintain uniqueness using my primary key index during the load. so the degradation of the load performance doesn't shock me. the source data file contains duplicate records and may contain records that are duplicates of those that are already in the table (i am appending during sql-loader).
my other option is to unload the entire table to a flat file, concatenate the new file onto it, run it through a unique sort, and then direct-path load it.
has anyone had a similar experience? any cool solutions available that are quick?
thanks,
jeffIt would be faster to suck into a Oracle table, call it a temporary table and then make a final move into the final table.
This way you could direct load into an oracle table then you could
INSERT /*+ APPEND */ INTO Final_Table
SELECT DISTINCT *
FROM Temp_Table
ORDER BY ID;This would do a 'direct load' type move from your temp teable to the final table, which automatically merging the duplicate records;
So
1) Direct Load from SQL*Loader into temp table.
2) Place index (non-unique) on temp table column ID.
3) Direct load INSERT into the final table.
Step 2 may make this process faster or slower, only testing will tell.
Good Luck,
Eric Kamradt
