Adding SSD to Acer Nitro VN7-591G

Hello! I have a subjected laptop in configuration without SSD (only hybrid HDD).How do I know about mSATA or M.2 ports presence inside?Or should I replace HDD with 2.5'' SATA-III SSD ? Thanks for attension.

For All, I ended up trying and successfully installing and migrating Windows 8.1 to this one based on IronFly's details about the Lite-on SSD that comes in some models of the V17 preinstalled. (Acer won't le tme post a URL, but I got this model:  Crucial MX200 CT250MX200SSD4 M.2 Type 2280SS (Single Sided) 250GB SATA 6Gbps (SATA III) Micron 16nm MLC NAND Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)) Newegg is no tax for me, but I'm sure Tiger Direct or Amazon have their sales as well. The 500GB version was on sale last week for $179, but I didn't need that much space.  I just keep My Documents off of Shortcuts on the 1TB HDD.  Win 8.1 plus all of my Programs and Apps only take up 67 GB for me.  Add about 32 GB to that for Swap and Hibernate (based on 16GB RAM after upgrade) and I live within 256GB minus formatting just fine with that big 1TB HDD also installed. If you do use a Crucial MX100 or MX200 drive, be aware that Acronis 2015 will not work.  It will hoze up / freeze up your Windows install.  You must use some other cloning program like Paragon Hard Drive Manager.  I did the USB stick bootable image to do my migration. Any M.2 (not MSATA) SATA (not PCIe) size 2280 will work.  You could probably use an M.2 to MSATA adapter as well for the older standard 50mm MSATA, but why bother unless you're using an MSATA you already have. The teardown is here:  It's not English, but you can clearly see what he's doing. (Acer won't let me post URL, but just search Bing Video for "Acer V17 disassemble" and it should be the first video - spoken in Deutch or German) I used a credit card to separate the palm rest over the optical drive area, (which the guy in the video does not do - I couldn't do it with my fingers) and worked my around.Make sure you remove the silver bar by the hings also - there's 2 screws under there.Be careful and go slow - you don't want to break off any of the tiny little black tabs.Don't mix up the screws either - there are 2 bigger ones that go underneath near the hinges.  The rest of the black screws are all the same size. There are a a few Silver screws inside that are smaller for the WLAN card, USB board, etc.  You'll need an extra one of those screws to mount the M.2 on the underside of the board.  I canibalized an old 2.5 inch HDD and took a screw from the case with a Torx head - luckily it's the same thread size.  That small silver screw is very hard to find otherwise, but I did find another one off an old PCIe desktop video card I had.  Home Depot or Lowes will not carry screws that small. The M.2 slot is tough to get to, you have to do a complete palm rest lift and board lift - but just go very slowly so you don't break anything.  You have to lift up the entire main board.  Go slow, have a flashlight, tiny phillips head, credit card, extra screw, and a small pick (I used a dentist scraper hook) to push open the keyboard plug latches (but a tiny flat blade screwdriver will work also). And be careful to ease out the Audio jack from the right side as it is wedged under a tiny lip of the bottom shell.Go slow, and have a small bowl to hold all those tiny screws. It's all about having a good open space to work, tools, container, time, screw, etc.I have taken apart many computers before, but this one was the most involved I've done.  They did a good job with the thinness and lightness, but there is Zero user access.  So if you're expecting something easy to upgrade and disassemble like a Lenovo T series - change your expectations, it is more involved.  That's what you get for thin, light, and good air flow - tradeoffs.  Also if you're going to do a 16GB RAM upgrade also, I recommend doing that at the same time.  You don't want to open up the computer twice - those tiny little black clips tend to break often.

  • Wifi unstable and extremely slow on my Aspire V Nitro VN7-591G-7.

Hi again ! My previous problem is now solved. But now I have issues with my wifi. The wifi works perfectly on other devices but on my Aspire V Nitro VN7-591G-7, it's just impossible to do anything on the internet... I've read it's a common problem and there are solutions. What steps should I follow in order to solve this ? I'm running Windows 8.1 by the way. I really like the performances of this computer so I wish to get rid of this stupid problem ! Thank you very much.

Can you describe "unstable and extremely slow" in more detail. Are you connected to the 5 GHz band of your wireless router or are you connected to the 2.4 GHz band? Are you having problems with all websites or just a few? Which web browser are you using?  IE or chrome or firefox? What is the model # of your wireless router? Is your wireless router supplied by your ISP? Or did you buy it retail? What BIOS version is currently installed on you laptop? What BIOS version is designated as the latest version on Acer's website? Does the problem occur when you use other people's wifi such as a friend, relative or neighbor?  Have you tested it somewhere besides your home? Does Acer's website list an updated wireless driver for your computer? http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers

  • Aspire V15 Nitro (VN7-591G-51CY) WiFi Problems?

If you are having wireless issues I would suggest calling Acer Technical Support and see about having the unit brought in for service for testing to make sure there isn't a hardware issue. Here is the contact number for France, since someone posted they were having issues in France.

Hello,I would like to buy the Aspire V15 Nitro Black Edition (VN7-591G-51CY) with Intel I5, nVidia GTX860M and 8GB RAM. But as I read, some people have problems with WiFi connection. I mean they are being disconnected or the speed is extremely low. Does anyone here have the same problems? Does exist an option, how  to fix this issue? What are your other experiences with this notebook? I am now not sure, if buying this notebook is a right decision, because of this issue (I use WiFi at home, we have many devices using WiFi...).
Thank you,Fraosius (I am sorry, if I made some English mistakes, I am from Czech Republic )

  • Nitro VN7-591G Trouble with Fn Esc BIOS recovery option

Hi all, I'm struggling to get my VN7-591G to complete the crisis recovery mode using Fn + Esc keys. Here is what I have tried: 1) Create blank USB flash drive formatted with FAT322) Copy the latest VN7-591G BIOS file to the drive.3) Rename it HadesSX64.fd4) While holding Fn + Esc, power on the laptop with the USB flash drive plugged in.5) BIOS screen does not appear; fans spin up; USB drive flashes a couple of times.6) After perhaps 30 seconds, the laptop powers down. It seems like the laptop has entered crisis / recovery mode because of step #5. If the file is not named HadesSX64.fd, then the laptop boots normally. However, it doesn't seem to have flashed the BIOS because it doesn't read the USB drive enough (only a couple of times - I'm expecting lots of activity and perhaps a minute or two before the laptop powers down or restarts). Any ideas? I feel like I'm missing something...

Thanks for the help, but I'm afraid that is exactly what I'm doing. Here are the exact steps and laptop behaviour: Fn + Esc + Power button (keep holding Fn + Esc makes no difference)Laptop powers on, but screen does notUSB flash drive LED flashes a couple of times If USB flash disk contains a file named HadesSX64.fd, then the laptop proceeds as follows:Fans spin upPower LED flashes 6 - 8 times.Laptop powers off. If USB flash disk is not inserted OR file is named ANYTHING else, then the laptop proceeds to boot normally. My problem is that I feel that the BIOS should be flashed as a result of the correctly named "HadesSX64.fd" file. However, it does not seem to actually flash the BIOS for some reason. It's almost like I'm missing another step when the laptop's power light is flashing, but I've tried mashing all sorts of key combinations, including Fn + Esc + Power and also Power button alone! Very strange!

  • Install Windows 8.1 Pro on Acer Aspire V Nitro VN7-591

Hi forum, I recently bought the Acer Aspire V Nitro VN7-591 and I noticed that it only comes with the Core Edition of Windows 8.1. As I need some of the features of the Windows 8.1 Pro Edition (joining domains, remote display etc.) I would like to upgrade the System to Windows 8.1 Pro. I still have an unused Pro retail key (no OEM, no Upgrade Pack) here so at the moment I'm downloading the ISO for Windows 8.1 Pro. But prior to installation I would like to make sure that everything works out fine and I don't run intro problems. First of all: is there anything I need to save from the old OS (except from the recovery partition- I already saved that to a USB drive using the recovery program provided by Acer)? Do I have to know my Product Key (using for example a key viewer software) just in case? Do I have to disable secure boot in BIOS? Second: can I just install Windows 8.1 Pro using my ISO and installing the drivers from the Acer support website? Drivers should still work, right? Third: if I ever want to switch back to Windows 8.1 Core (the OEM edition) do I just use the USB pen drive created with the acer recovery tool? Will my retail Windows 8.1 Pro Key be usable again if I switch back to the original OS? Sorry for asking that many questions but I just have to make sure that it runs trough right in the first place because I need the Laptop to function. What would be your standard procedure to this kind of "problem"? Thanks in advance and with regards,The_DJ  Edit:I might have forgotten to mention that I want to do a clean reinstall without all the bloatware from Acer. That's why I'm using the Windows 8.1 Pro "Vanilla" ISO and if I ever want to switch back to core use the Windows 8.1 Core "Vanilla" ISO. Is that possible or would I have to use the recovery partition saved to my USB drive?

Changing the Operating System may cause driver conflicts. The compatible drivers for Windows 8.1 will not be available in the website for this laptop. Hence, some of the features on the laptop might not work after changing the OS.  1: Since you have already created the USB recovery media from the laptop, you do not have to copy anything else other than this.  Make sure you you backup all files before installing the OS, as it will remove all data from the laptop. I see that, you have the unused Pro retail key for the OS, hence, you do not have to have the OEM product key. You need to use the product key for Windows 8.1 Pro to activate it, not the Acer OEM product key.  In the BIOS, select BOOT tab.  Select BOOT MODE as Legacy Mode instead of UEFI.Disable Secure Boot. Under Boot Priority Order, you need to select 1 as CD/DVD (if you are using disc), or USB FDD or USB HDD (if you are using USB drive) to install Windows 8.1 Pro.  Then press the F10 key and select "Yes" to save the changes in BIOS.  ->You an install Windows 8.1 Pro using my ISO and installing the drivers from the Acer support website. As said before, there may driver conflicts.  -> If you want to switch back to Windows 8.1, you may use the USB reovery drive (which created you have created from the recovery partition). When you do this, the Windows 8.1 Pro and it's product key will be removed from the laptop and the factory shipped OS, drivers, apps (and the OEM product key) will be installed automatically. You do not have to use the Windows 8.1 Pro key with Acer OEM USB reovery media.  -> You need to do a clean install using the USB recovery drive to install factory shipped Windows on the laptop.

  • M.2 slot on which VN7-591G and VN7-791G models?

Hi can anybody tell me if the Acer Aspire Nitro notebooks below have a M.2 slot for a M.2 SSDAnd do they support hardware virtualisation (VT-x by Intel and AMD-V by AMD) to be able run Vmware, KVM or Hyper-V on them? VN7-791G-75WA: http://www.acer.nl/ac/nl/NL/content/model/NX.MQREH.014
VN7-591G-72QC: NX.MUUEH.002 Could anyone perhaps provide a list with all VN7-591G and VN7-791G models that have a M.2 slot available?

    Morgain,
My understanding is that virtualization is turned on by default and the option to adjust it is hidden in the BIOS. We created an article that talks about it here, if you would like to look it over.
As far as the M.2 SSD, both the VN7-591G and VN7-791G series have been tested with M.2 SATA 6 Gb/s SSDs so the ability to use one is there on the machine.

  • V Nitro VN7-791 screen is flashing when playing Minecraft

Hello,I just got brand new Acer Aspire V Nitro VN7-791. I bought it for playing differnet games. I.m very disappointed when I tried to play Minecraft. The screen is constantly flashing in an irritating way. I tired to update display drivers and fix the video options, but the problems doesn't end. The strange thing is that other games run smoothly, f ex GTA V. Do you have same problems? Can you play Minecraft with your Acers? Any ideas to solve the problem? If I won't find a solution, I want my money back.

    YamoZ,
Make sure that the discreet graphics are set to run the game instead of the onboard Intel graphics chipset (CPU) to see if that makes a difference. It sounds like it is driver related, if you have not performed all your Windows updates. Be sure to check optional updates, there might be some there that could address this.

Leider keinen Erfolg. Trotzdem vielen Dank! Gruß, Lucas

  • Are Acer Aspire VN7-591/791 notebooks vunerable to the Rowhammer DDR3 javascript exploit?

Today in the news that two researchers have found a way to exploit the Rowhammer DDR3 memory hardware bug through javascript in a webbrowser. http://news.softpedia.com/news/row-hammer-dram-bug-now-exploitable-via-javascript-488050.shtml http://arxiv.org/pdf/1507.06955v1.pdf Hackers can gain root level access to your computer this way and there is no way to prevent that by software or sandboxes. Only way is to block all javascript or use ECC memory for DDR3. DDR4 memory is not affected. For now the researchers used javascript but hackers might find other ways to exploit this. Are Acer Aspire VN7-591/791 notebooks vunerable to the Rowhammer DDR3 javascript exploit or do they support ECC Memory?

  • Pain-free way of adding SSD?

    Good day,
I run SJS DS 5.2 patch 4 on a Solaris x86 system. When this directory was first set up using idsconfig, no service search descriptors were added for the passwd service and rightfully enough, searches logged in the access log only refer to ou=people,o=mydomain.com,dc=mydomain,dc=com.
I've read of re-running idsconfig to add SSD's but that looks woefully mis-scoped; I'd like something more specific to be able to force searches for the passwd service to search another ou in the same o container.
I read about the serviceSearchDescriptor of the "default" profile and decided to set up the following on my test system:
    Attribute: serviceSearchDescriptor
    Value: passwd:ou=people,o=mydomain.com,dc=mydomain,dc=com;ou=otherPeople,o=mydomain.com,dc=mydomain,dc=com
Not only was I unable to log in using accounts from the otherPeople container, I also then lost the ability to log in using accounts from the people container.
I've scrapped this test system and am now rebuilding it but I'd like to know whether a pain-free way of adding SSDs exists. That excludes re-configuring using idsconfig.
    Cheers

    Ah well, no luck yet.
I'm running telnet 127.0.0.1 on the test machine using a test account edepa2 created under the additional container morepeople.
The DS access log on the test machine (pasted at the end of this post) shows that the morepeople container is beng searched and the entry edepa2 is being found but the telnet returns "login incorrect".
The serviceSearchDescriptor attribute is now set to:
    passwd:ou=people,o=mydomain.com,dc=mydomain,dc=com;ou=morepeople,o=mydomain.com,dc=mydomain,dc=com
    Any ideas?
    Cheers,
    Etienne

  • Acer Aspire V 15 Nitro VN7-571G-58T0 issues

I bought the laptop in May 2015, and I'm facing the following problems: 1. Wifi doesn't work properly:I have tried updating the driver of the Qualcomm Atheros AR5BWB222 WiFi card, but it has made no difference. Acer issued a patch to supposedly rectify the problem, but it definitely didn't work. Connections keep dropping, and it refuses to reconnect automatically. The range is poor, while other devices such as phones work perfectly from the same spot. It defeats the point of having a sticker advertising "Up To 2X Faster Wireless" on the laptop.  2. Wifi doesn't work after switching on and off 'Airplane mode'I'm not sure if it's a Windows error or the WiFi card's problem, but the only solution I found was to restart the laptop each time. Any alternate suggestions are welcome. 3. Trackpad response is terribleThe first half second of any swipe is not registered. Thus, I unnecessarily have to move my finger for a bit before the touch pad starts responding. Two finger scrolling is frustratingly difficult to achieve. I find myself dragging my fingers almost halfway across the trackpad before the touch is registered. Is there a driver update that will solve this issue? 4. Speakers jarIf I'm playing a punchy, bass heavy track at above 65% volume, the speakers jar. This is with the Dolby settings on. I play the same file on another device with Harman Kardon speakers, and it's way more pleasing to  listen to. 5. Num-Lock is 'Off' after every sleep sessionNum-Lock is switched off by default, and the laptop refuses to retain the last applied setting after every sleep session. Is there a way to rectify this? 6. Keyboard-backlight setting is 'On' after every sleep sessionJust like the Num-Lock, the keyboard light kicks in after every sleep session and does not retain the last applied setting. There is also substantial gap under the keys, so at most angles, the light bleeds, making it harder to see the alphabets on the keys. More than anything, it's the wifi performance that has really let me down. Laptops half as expensive perform flawlessly, and it really pisses me off that all the painfull research and keeping an eye out for discounts finally resulted in this - an unreliable laptop. Half the issues mentioned here shouldn't be existing in this day and age. If any solutions are available to the problems listed above, please keep me posted.

    vn7571g_user,
Sorry to hear that you are not having the best possible experience with your new notebook. I'd like to try and address a few of your concerns that you have listed and see if there are some things we can resolve for you.
    1. Wifi doesn't work properly:
I see that you have posted in a couple other threads (1st, 2nd) regarding wireless issues with this notebook. We can gladly check this unit at the repair depot for you if you are not keen on changing the card out, PM me the following information and I will see what I can do for you:
    SNID or serial number
    Contact name
    Contact number
    Email address
    Shipping address
    Purchase date
    2. Wifi doesn't work after switching on and off 'Airplane mode'
If you have already tried to install/update the drivers, it could be a Windows issue. You can attempt a refresh to see if that helps resolve it.
    3. Trackpad response is terrible
This notebook uses a precision touchpad possibly, but since it uses Synaptics drivers you have a couple options:
You can change the way that the touchpad works.
It says Windows 7, but you can see if you have this option in the touchpad settings and see if it helps you out.
    4. Speakers jar
Do you have the same issue without the Dolby turned on?
    5. Num-Lock is 'Off' after every sleep session
Here is a Microsoft article that discusses this feature. You can follow the steps that they list if you would like.
    6. Keyboard-backlight setting is 'On' after every sleep session
The backlit keyboard is working as designed. Here is an article with some FAQ about the backlit keyboard to help customers understand its functionality a bit more.
    A couple final thoughts:
Did the issue(s) you are having occur before or after Windows updates, sometime a bad installation of an update can cause all sorts of things to happen.
Worst case, you can always try to restore to factory defaults and test all these things before applying updates or installing any applications or programs.

  • Acer V 15 Nitro VN7 Webcam not Working

My webcam isn’t working. I have installed the Crystal Eye software and am told no webcam device is installed. I get the same message in Skype.I have been in device manager and do not see a webcam there either. There is no unknown device that could be the webcam either.I checked the BIOS and there is no way to disable or enable the webcam there. There is no FN button that seems to disable or enable the webcam.

As the webcam is not displayed in the Device Manager as well, it seems that this is a hardware issue. To check this further, you are advised to contact your nearest Acer service center through the following link:

  • Can I upgrade my battery life using the Acer Aspire V Nitro VN7-951 in built battery?

I am using the aspire V Nito-black edition 15.6 inch laptop for school and gaming. It currently lasts up to 2 and a half hours though I need it at atleast 5 hours. The battery is in built though but I really need the upgrade, cost does not matter.

  • Adding ssd to an iMac early 2008

I have an iMac early 2008 with a hd by sata. I have also SuperDrive by pata/IDE. If I change the hd by a ssd by sata and a 1 tb hd by pata, I will increase the speed of my iMac? Another option is to install osx on a ext. FireWire 800 ssd with a box, which is the best option?

Adding the SSD for a boot/application volume will dramatically increase the speed of booting and application launching. Retrieving data from the pata hard drive will be slower than the existing SATA interface that your hard drive is on now. I don't know if that's enough of a speed hot to actually notice. The SSD will make the computer feel MUCH faster, I put one in my MacBook and it feels like a completely different machine, it's the single best upgrade I've ever done.
I don't know how much an SSD in an external FireWire enclosure will speed thins up but I'm considering the same thing as I don't want to open my iMac and risk messing something up.
